It’s almost time! 8-24-22

Our new book will be released September 1 and I’m ready to accept orders. The book retails for $26.99. My guess is it will cost around $10 to mail it to you. Sad but true. Connie will return to Garner to autograph your book and then it will be off to your mailbox.

Both Connie and I love the cover quilt – in fact Connie is making it right now – king size! We’ve tossed around the idea of a sew along for anyone wanting to make the cover quilt.

Tomorrow I will take my book to the post office to make sure about the postage cost and if it’s different from $10 I will post that info immediately.

This was taken today. I’ve been really sick – not with Covid but with a strain of flu. So sick I could not walk – so dizzy, weak, diarrhea, body aches and it came on suddenly last evening. Up all night between the bathroom and the couch. I’ve spent all day on the couch with my buddy but I definitely feel better tonight – eating some crackers now and I’ll spend tonight on the couch, too, just in case.

I don’t get sick very often but this was bad – I crawled partway up the steps in the night to tell Rick to help me. Ugh.

Here’s looking at a better day tomorrow!

Iowa Roads – a classic quilt made in a fall palette – just in time for the new season.

  3. Nancy

I fully expected to see Hazel on the couch with you. Bah Hah! Hope you fell better soon and Rick does not get it.

  4. Diane, Squeak and Buddy

Ouch,Mary. I hope you get better very soon. It is awful to be sick. Any kids around who can help with chores. Maybe the FFA or 4-H might have someone. I’d help if I lived closer. Take care.

  5. Diane in Maryland

So sorry you are sick! Like Nancy, I was sure your buddy was going to be Hazel. So sweet that the puppy was comforting you. Hope you are feeling better tomorrow.
Mike and I went to Middletown, Delaware yesterday and we saw Little Red’s twin! I’ve shown him pictures of Little Red and at the same time we said, “Look – little red!” I think it’s the first time I have ever seen one. So cute!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Diane – Wow-another Little Red! Chevy didn’t make that many of them so it’s rare to see one out in public. Lots of people who bought them have them stored away – not me! I love driving Little Red!

      1. Diane in Maryland

It is adorable too! This one was bright red just like yours. I’d drive it too if I had one!

  6. Janet Snyder

Hope you get feeling better quickly. I think your buddy is going to be hard to separate from. Love, the Iowa roads quilt. Something about those fall colors always appeals to me.

  7. Debbie Miller

Hope you feel better soon! Can’t wait to get your new book! I suddenly got sick two weeks ago after just feeling “a frog in my throat”. High temps and feeling awful. Not Covid either. I bet Hazel is jealous of your couch buddy!

  8. Debbie G in SE WI

Oh dear, Mary! Sorry you are under the weather! Hoping tomorrow finds you feeling better. I love the Iowa Roads quilt! May have to add it to my “must make” list! Can’t wait to see the new book. Will have to add it to my Country Threads collection.

  9. Sandy

Hi Mary, sorry your not well, pleased that the pup is n nurse duties, they know when you need comforting. I hope Rick is able to help with the animals, take care, best wishes from Sandy

  10. Pat Smith

SO sorry you are having everyone’s worst nightmare. It usually comes and goes pretty quickly after it makes you miserable first. So glad you have a little couch buddy. I wish I was younger—I’d adopt that pup.

      1. Jan

Aw, I love that you love them so much Mary. They really are adorable. I hope Hazel has accepted them to her tribe. Will you keep them both? I hope this “bug” passes quickly! Jan in MA

  11. lorraine bujnowski

Sending you get well wishes, Mary! Hope tomorrow is a better day. Glad Hazel was there to comfort you. Can’t wait to read your new book. I love the Iowa Roads quilt too!

  14. Kathy in western NY

Oh you poor girl! Let’s hope it leaves you as fast as it came on. I do love the company snuggled up tight making sure you are being comforted. Those paws crack me up. Don’t hurry to the PO, as long as we know you will have books we will order them. Drink the ginger ale, tea and toast tomorrow that I wish I could bring you.

  15. Sheila

Oh Mary, sorry to hear this. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. Perhaps a sign you need to slow down a little. Good to see you have a couch buddy to help you rest.
Readers quilt is beautiful. Get some rest, tea and toast tomorrow.

    Sheila in MA

  16. Marsha from Kansas

Get well soon, Mary. I, too, thought Hazel would be your couch buddy. But glad to see the puppy comforting you.

  17. Beryl in Owatonna

Hope you feel better soon! It is supposed to be a little cooler tomorrow.
I like the fall quilt and subtle colors.

  18. Betty Klosterman

Looks like you have a good nurse. We forget about the nasty flu! It can be really tough. You definitely don’t want Rick to get it. Men are such wooses. Get well quick. It can be a near death experience, or at least seems so.
My neighbor broke her foot – she doesn’t know how – around June 1 and it isn’t healing. Now they are going to put a screw/rod as her weight would break it again. She is getting very tired of getting around with the cast. She is has always been on the go all the time so this has been very hard.
Yesterday I was mailing the I Spy quilts to Alexandria and a lady was getting copies for applique shapes. Guess what, she does the Country Threads blog with us. Now isn’t that nice? We have a great number of quilters all over the area.
Schools have started so things should get a bit quieter in the daytime. One mother couldn’t wipe the smile off her face!!
Monday is Project Warmth and my stuff is almost ready to go. Only 2 months before the holidays. Sure don’t know where the days go, but they have to get better.
Take care. Betty in Rapid City

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Betty – I love that you ran into another Country Threads reader! I am better tonight after feeling like it really was a near death experience. I’d have gladly chosen death if I had to live feeling like that.

  19. Rosalie

Glad you are on the mend!
So hard to be so sick anytime but when you have so many people and critters depending on you it is doubly hard.

  20. Deb in Idaho

So sorry you’re sick. I want to get a flu shot but it’s to early. So many people sick and not with Covid. It’s hard for me to get excited to quilt, to hot. I can’t wait for cooler weather.

  21. Shirley from Oregon

    Looking forward to the book.
Oh my Mary. Take care of yourself. Get some Gatorade and get your electrolytes back in order. I hate being sick and have not been either for years. Get well soon. I do love your buddy taking care of you on the couch.

  22. Billie

So sorry to hear that you have been sick. Must be some nasty stuff you got. Take it easy. Looks like you have a good buddy there to keep you company.. Feel better.

  23. Jo in Wyoming

I hope you feel better soon. Your much too busy to be sick for long.
Have you given this puppy a name yet?

  24. Joy in N W iowa

Not good to hear you r sick! Get well soon! Glad you have the buddy to watch over you!

  25. Diane in Colorado

I love both Iowa Roads and the cover quilt!! I’m working on a Quilt MN 2020 quilt for my Dad at the moment. Not crazy about the colorway—told my niece I am afraid it will keep him awake!!!! I will get it done and send it to the quilter. Dad will love it because I made it for him. Then I need to work on some fun and beautiful!!

  26. Marilyn Miller

Mary, I hope you will be up and back to your energetic self before the end of the week. Could it have been food poisoning maybe? Your Buddy in the couch with you looks like a smuggler!

  27. Cheryl Regan

It’s common that you would test negative for Covid, but be positive after a few days. I think that segregating from your partner is wise. Count on 48 hours of misery…then better each day. Hope it stays negative and tomorrow you are up and at ‘em. Be well!

  28. Jeanne in Co.

Mary, sending prayers for a much better day tomorrow. Hopefully this will be short lived. Could it be that God is telling you to slow down a bit? Your couch buddy senses that you need a comforter. Hopefully this is just a one day flu. Hugs, Jeanne

  29. Jeanie S, Central Illinois

Oh Mary, I hate it that you are so sick. Even at a young age, Puppy knows you need a warm body for comfort.
Love the fall quilt and excited to order your new book.
    Take Care, 🥰

  30. Sherri

    Take care of YOURSELF

  31. Gloria b.

Hope you get better quickly and completely. Your pup is solidifying her place in your life. How could you let her go when she’s sticking with you in sickness and in health?

    1. Kathy in western NY

Yeh Gloria I am too sensing a bit of loyalty and devotion shown on the part of this beautiful dog staying with our Mary through sickness and in health.

  32. Agatha B

Sorry to hear that you are so sick can’t even imagine not being able to walk. This sounds much worse than when you had Covid. Not looking forward to that strain of flu going around.
Sending prayers for you to get well quickly!

  33. Kris in WI

  35. Charlotte

Mary, I am sooooo sorry to hear you are so ill. But glad to know you are already feeling better.
Nothing like a puppy to help with the healing process. I’m sure all the dogs are worried about you—they know when you are not well, sad and so forth. God bless you and heal you quickly and soon.

  36. Carmen Montmarquet

Sorry to hear you are sick, but good you had such a cute buddy to cuddle with! Hope you feel better soon!

  37. Meredith in Cincinnati

That sounds like a really nasty flu! Fluids and rest, and special care from Rick and your snuggle buddy sounds like the best cure.

  38. Cathy D

Sorry you have been sick, but glad it seems to be short lived. Take time to recover, things will wait.

  39. Susan Sundermeyer

    1. Nilene Thompson-Finn

Oh Mary, I am so sorry to hear you’re feeling ill. Sure hope you feel better soon! ❤️❤️❤️

  40. Gloria from CC

So sorry you were so sick! I hope this morning finds you feeling much better. Isn’t it amazing how animals sense when we are sick and know we need to be loved and comforted? My little Pooh Bear wouldn’t leave my side when I had a migraine. He wouldn’t move to eat, drink or go to the bathroom until my migraine was gone which sometimes took 24 hours.
Absolutely love the Iowa Roads quilt and would be interested in a cover quilt sew along. Hugs, Gloria

  41. Amy Kollasch

Oh no! Sorry to hear you are sick. Hope it was just a 24 hour bug and you are feeling better. Congratulations on the book release.

  42. Linda

I’m glad you have the comfort of a loving puppy. Mine sense when I am sick and stay close but are quiet and will only walk close to check on me. Hopefully you will be up to your busy self real soon. God bless

  43. Michele

Feel better quick. A dog (or two) by your bed side does help to heal faster.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Nancy – no ads! Thank you – I forget how I did this for the last book.

  45. Susan Boyd in VA

I’m happy to hear you’re feeling better. My son had COVID about a month ago and it started with similar symptoms. He thought he had food poisoning from something he’d eaten at lunch. He was very sick for awhile. He also tested negative at first, but tested positive later. Love the new book!

  46. Kris in Naperville

Oh Mary – so sorry to hear you are under the weather… praying that you recover quickly and are back to feeling better real soon. The book looks amazing, congratulation!
