I put this photo on Instagram and have had many many likes and comments on it. I like it, too.
And now we’ll move on to 42 Yard Dash:

Same routine – $5 and a SASE to Mary ETHERINGTON, 2345 Palm Ave, Garner, IA 50438. Check or cash only.
I missed posting last night and now I have too much to say – says, Windy! I have a good good friend in the hospital in SC after compound fracturing her ankle and I’m thinking maybe we could send her a few cards. I started my log cabin blocks last night and I will post those instructions in an upcoming post. Not much scheduled for this week but I also have to mow the lawn again. I’ve been running the irrigation so it has enough moisture to survive the winter and it’s growing. It’s a double edged sword.

Remember that old favorite quilt Turning Twenty? I’m putting that on my list again, too, in hopes of using up more fabric.

And a couple jokes—-

P.S. and I forget to say it often enough – thanks for clicking on the ads – that’s all you have to do to help pay the expenses of this blog.
Hope you’ve all got big plans for the week! Tell me what you’re up to.

Somehow I missed this post until today (Monday). I love listening to you play, and your song choice was great!
Morti may need her own machine. 🤣
Thanks So Much, Mary 🥰
Got my pattern that I ordered today. Thank you.
And you just told me, “I don’t have a spot for this little leaf quilt.” HA!!! You do now! Mortie is just the cutest.
Haha!!! And she centered herself perfectly, didn’t she?
Beautiful piano solo. I’m patiently waiting for autumn. I’m trying to get outside stuff ready for winter.
Hi Mary, lovely to hear you play the piano, could hear you turn the page even! Went to see downton abbey movie last night ,beautiful clothes , such a fabulous movie! Would like to see Eleanor the great soon, june squabbling is amazing for 95! Squibb! Autocorrect is such a pain! Morty is so sweet, your new quilting assistant! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Fall is creeping here in Brighton, Very few leaves are turning, most are so dry just falling.
Loving the new kittie Mortie, she looks like a keeper. Always love your animal post, Hazel is the best snake dog I have ever seen, she is relentless. But glad getting rid of those snakes, they can leave a nasty bite.
Also thanks for the card showers, the results are wonderful and I love hearing bout them.
Plz take care of yourself, praying for you and your total body healing.. God is so good
Maggey
Those are lovely pictures of a Midwest autumn.
That kitten invented cute! Morty is just so adorable.
42 yard dash looks like a very versatile pattern, looks good in many kinds of fabrics and color ways.
I will be spending a lot of today crawling around on the floor in my sewing room basting a large quilt. Ugh.
Oh, I love that song. I think Willie Nelson recorded it, too. Your piano has a lovely , mellow tone. It was delightful to hear you playing it. I’m going to pop two envelopes (SASE, of course!) in the mail today with a check for both quilts. When I saw 42 yard dash, it was one of those moments when you know EXACTLY which of your fabrics you will use to create your own version.
And lastly, Turning Twenty was a fun pattern. It seems like it was a quilting “trend” everybody loved. I had a class through my quilt guild when I lived in Phoenix that showed how to do a variation or two on it with some simple cutting, moving around and resewing of the blocks. Magical results, but still easy and quick.
Have fun mowing today.
I have always been more of a dog person but your little Mortie is the cutest baby ever. She just wants to be near you all the time it seems. She knows a good thing when she sees it and quickly made herself at home and irresistible.
Loved your playing. Isn’t that song “You Don’t Own Me”?
No plans for today but to recuperate. I spent the weekend in the hospital after a very nasty virus left me dehydrated, weak, and put me into A-Fib which I had never had before. Everyone from the ambulance drivers to the hospital staff was so very kind but I was glad to get back home late afternoon yesterday. Fortunately my husband seems to have escaped getting the virus and I am so happy about that.
I always click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the ad. It doesn’t open the ad but it makes it disappear. Let me know if that counts. If it is ok, people can be reminded that they don’t have sit through ads and it is a really easy process to just click on the three dots or x, whichever shows up. I love being able to help you pay for the blog since I enjoy it so much every day.
Sue – all from a virus? Oh my gosh! You’re very close on the song title – You don’t know me –
Rick has had AFib and I have several friends who did, too. I sure hope you rest and recuperate. You are absolutely right about the three dots – that’s all you have to do. Click and move on. And a huge thank you!
Oh, of course haha! “Know” not “own”. I was singing it in my head as you were playing but couldn’t remember all the words.
Now I have a bit of a persistent but intermittent cough that is driving me crazy. I have never had a virus like this before. I am supposed to go back to my general practitioner as a follow-up from being in the hospital but I am afraid that’s where I may have picked this up since I was there last week before I got sick without a mask on. This time I will definitely wear a mask, for myself and others’ protection. There is so much sickness going around. I did get Covid and flu shots and was tested for both in the hospital (negative).
Can I still send money to get the pattern?
Yes
Good morning! It’s still warmer than normal (what ever that is!) in central OH, and dry – we may get a little rain over the weekend. Morti is certainly ‘at home’ and has turned what looks like a mug rug into a cat rug – she looks very comfy.
Harvest is well underway here, but of course there’s a lot of fretting about yields and prices – I really enjoy the photo you included. I also love the American Harvest quilt – very cute!
This is a busy week for me. I’m fixing a skirt for a chorus member today; have a chorus board meeting and rehearsal tonight; my stitching group meets tomorrow and I’m taking apple crisp; then tomorrow night is rehearsal for our local Lions Club show; Thursday night is the local Soil and Water banquet; Saturday is dress rehearsal for my Sweet Adeline chorus show; and Sunday is THE SHOW. I plan to nap a lot on Monday afterward! LOL! Then maybe I can get back to my quilting – I have big plans but “stuff” seems to get in the way. Then there is the outside work to do – leaves, weeds, etc…. and my quilts sit, waiting to be finished along with others I want to start.
I guess it’s good to be busy, right? It does keep me out of trouble – for the most part…
Have a great week!
Gail – your busy week sounds like my last week and I’m glad I have nothing scheduled this week – I slept in this morning. Yes, Mortie is my constant shadow.
Gail – forgot to say I wish I could hear your performance!!
I will send a card to your friend. I broke my ankle – or up from the ankle but because it was so many mm from the ankle they still call the leg bone ankle! It was no fun and quite painful. I had to use a knee bike because I couldn’t put weight on it for 8 weeks then the ortho said it just won’t heal because of the osteoporosis so I have what they call a non-union break. That was three years ago and ever so often it hurts a bit.
Mortie is so adorable. Wouldn’t it be fun for Mortie and Minnie to get together for a play date! Minnie was all wound up this morning. She and Livvy play together which is great because Betty who I got Livvy to be buddies with, only growls at everybody. Betty is a buger but I love her. Minnie ran like crazy until suddenly I hear this barely-audible mew and she is crying for her breakfast. When I’m doing hand work I have to give Minnie my little scissors case to wrestle with so she will leave my stitching alone.
Blessings to all for a nice fall day!! I’m cleaning this week and need to replace the exhaust fan in the upstairs bathroom. Sisters are coming from Louisville Saturday for our biannual quilt retreat! So much fun!
Linda – yes, I’ve thought about Minnie often since Mortie arrived although Mortie is much bigger and older than her. Your sisters’ retreats are always enviable – what are you going to work on?
What a fun filled blog today!
Busy week at my house. My niece is getting married Saturday, so I have to finish alterations on the mother’s dress and put the binding on her quilt. Rehearsal dinner Friday evening. Then I need to finish a few things for my church craft sale on November 8th. My sewing machine has been getting a workout!
I love that little Morty has made herself at home. She’s just so sweet!
And my last comment – the hostages are free! Praise Jesus!
Diana – I’m watching the news, too, and so happy for the hostages and their families. Oh, the stories we are likely to hear. I honestly thought they might be emaciated but they looked as well as can be after all that time. How does Elliott like school? Does he like Hot Wheels or does he collect anything in particular?
Elliott was afraid of school the first few weeks, but is settling now. We figured out that he was bored. Teacher is teaching things he learned last year, so she is trying to give him more advanced work.
He doesn’t like Hot Wheels as much as dinosaurs and Mario! Lol
Thanks for asking!
Good morning,
I would like to know if the pattern American Harvest is still available for purchase. In this post earlier it states that for $5.00 and SASE you can receive one. Please let me know and I will get it in the mail ASAP.
Thank you for your time and have a wonderful blessed day.
Sincerely,
Linda Ray
Linda – yes, that’s why I posted all the purchase details.
I love Morti playing in your sewing room, so adorable!!! Keep that kitty inside so nothing happens to her. She’s so darn cute.
It sure looks like Mortie has caught the sewing bug! I am hoping to get a bushel of Northern Spy apples this week so that I can get my applesauce canned. I’m working on blocks for a flannel bullseye quilt that will keep us warm this winter. My daughter & her husband are visiting us this week from Missouri. Their rescue dog is also visiting & she is full of energy. The fabrics you choose for your blocks really make them shine.
Des, I made a flannel Bulleyes quilt with Mary’s instructions and it’s our favorite quilt in this house for keeping warm on the couch. It gave me a greater appreciation for using flannels for quilts.
I am aiming for queen bed size. I had a big tub of leftover flannel from when I made many rag quilts. Remember those?
My flannel Bullseye Quilt is our favorite too. It’s the only one we’ve ever used on our bed, even though there are stacks of quilts around the house, lol!
Des – a flannel bullseye will be great – it will ruffle so nicely.
I will send a picture when it’s done. No sewing today. My daughter is helping to set up my new computerl
Love the music! Sounds like a song that would have been played at the Tea Room in Shrivers in Sioux Falls when we had lunch there while shopping. Anyone remember the Shrivers Tea Room?
Harvest is less than 10 loads!!! Yipee!!
Post the address of the lady who broke her ankle. I will send hr a card. Today is card sending day!!
Mortie is quite the cat! Love it! So cute. Love your plan of Turning Twenty! Sounds like a great plan! I could use up a bunch of fabric kits I’ll bet! You know….those kits you bought x of amount of years ago and not sure where the pattern is that went with it or I was just too pretty to leave in the quilt store? but you still love the fabric??? Am I the only one?
I’ll be watching for the address 😉
Joy – I will post the address in tonight’s post – I’m looking for a favorite picture to include. Thanks for sending the cards – they’re important to me.
Love the pictures with fall harvest and the flag! I find it so much fun to take lots of pictures and then just keep whatever I like. Those log cabin blocks are great!! My local guild was doing twin size quilts for charity donations. I made several Turning Twenty quilts as they were quick and fun! I even made some backings all from fat quarters. Furry helpers are the best!!
Diane O – that’s why I want to make Turning Twenty – so much fabric to use up and it’s a very fun quilt to make.
Mary we need the info on your friend with the ankle. Love passing some cheer on. The problem with the ads I end up buying stuff I didn’t know I needed until I saw it. LOL My husband and I loved going into thrift shops and when asked if we were looking for something particular we would say”for something we didn’t know we needed until we see it”. Good memories. Mortie is adorable
Angie – yea, I will, post her address tonight. Thanks!!!
Your song made me think of my grandma. The family frequented a bar when I was a kid, this was the music on the jukebox. Grandma would pick some old guy to dance with her, it made them both smile. All of Me was another of her favorites. I was just sewing and she taught me.
Dee – such a sweet memory of your grandma – I love that song, too – All of Me
I will be ordering the American Harvest pattern. Mary…can you please remind me the size for the envelope and the amount of postage needed for the SASE? Thank you! I can mail out on Tuesday.
Love your low volume log cabin blocks!
Kim – a business size envelope not letter size (the pattern is 3 large sheets) and 2 stamps
I wish we had big plans this week. We’re waiting on the doctor to return our call — hubby bent over about 2+ weeks ago & heard 3 pops & he’s been in pain ever since. Dr is on vacation & returns tomorrow. We’re hoping he returns our call tomorrow. Never seen my husband in so much pain. But we don’t take chances with any other doctor. Our doctor is wonderful & thorough. Hoping he will approve an epidural shot placed in the sciatic nerve area. This happened years ago & the shot is what helped until it was fully healed. Fingers crossed! Loved the pics of Morty ‘helping’! I’m sending $ and a SASE (pre addressed to me) for the American Harvest pattern — just love it. Thanks in advance, Mary!
Deb – your poor hubby! I hope his vacationing Dr calls him – if not you should call again. I’ve had a couple of those shots and they’re painful but do help.
