I get something fun in the mail every day!! Most of it is from Amazon and online specials that entertained me one whole evening in the hospital but today I got a box of protein drinks. Hmmm…I suppose I ordered those, too. But then a reader asked how I liked the protein drinks she sent. I’m not crazy just yet.

One night I spent over $500 in Christmas gifts – and we don’t even exchange gifts anymore! Haha! They’re just going to have to indulge me this year and accept the gifts with a gracious smile knowing I was under the influence of drugs when I bought them. I’ll let you know how that goes.
It was a good day today – Becky came and helped me with some heavy chores like carrying in jugs of rain water for the plants, cleaning litter boxes and taking out heavy trash. What would I do without my helpful sister??? I had a nap this afternoon and my good friend Ema provided beef stew and homemade sourdough bread.

I’ve put another Christmas Carol here for you to enjoy – Ema recorded it for me – along with a bit of background noise. Ha! When I’m really well I’ll be happy to do some in depth photography of collections around my home.
Here is Ema with Gilbert, Emmitt, Isobel and Harriet.

Remember these:

My dogs are so bored and it’s so cold outside and I can’t wrestle with them – poor dogs.

I started putting up a few Christmas quilts – I’m just missing the fresh greenery here on this outdoor table.

My surgery was two weeks ago today – it’s hard to believe I felt like near death. Here’s another little story about the nurses. It was 11 pm on Tuesday night and I was watching something on tv and hadn’t been up to pee for awhile so the charge nurse said let’s scan her and catheterize her. My friendly nurse Molly even had her boots on ready to leave but she came into my room and told me. My bathroom was not even 3 feet from my bed – it was no big deal. I just got up and went to the bathroom and peed. If not for Molly I’d have been ambushed. whew!
Thanks again for all your prayers, well wishes and cards! Oh, the cards are so fun!!!

Time to walk the dogs. Good night!

Love today’s pics and video. Grinning about ordering stuff on the internet when there’s nothing else to do! I did a fair amount of that during the pandemic😁 I did some this morning—went on eBay to look for the Country Threads Christmas tree pattern and (accidentally) ordered several CT patterns. Merry Christmas to me!
Sue – oh, how funny! Yup, got something else today that I ordered while under the influence! Fun!!!
One of them was 30 Stars! Can’t wait to get it—an after-Christmas project!
Thanks so much for the beautiful video. A beautiful carol and great eye candy. What is the metallic looking gold and silver egg shaped thing in your bowl of tomato pincushions. It is beautiful. Your videos are so calming . Merry Christmas everyone!!
All the Christmas stockings and quilts with applique are gorgeous. Of course, all the pieced quilts are gorgeous, too. Mary, so glad you were able to get some needed heavy things done with help. Great friend with the stew and bread. The old fashioned Santa is precious.
Another day of “Mary’s Greatest Hits”. Thank you. Please tell me. Do you have a favorite arrangement of “Silent Night”?
Li – yes, I do! I’ll find it!
Mary I’m so happy your sister is close to you and you can do stuff together and for each other. Plus, you have wonderful friends! Ema is so sweet and her children are so cute. loved the music!
Your dogs are chillin with you. Thy are both so precious and such good company!
A friend brought over a container of her homemade peanut brittle! It is awesome to say the least. We had coffee and chatted for a bit. She was the dietary manager at the nursing home where I worked. She is and was the best cook they had! She made stuff from scratch! Now they just buy all institutional prepared crap!
I love all your Christmas quilts and arrangements! So festive!
We are going to have a couple warm days! We better enjoy them.
Patience is sure a virtue indeed. When a person like you goes and goes it’s definitely hard to rein it in and let things heal. Sounds like you are doing a great job healing.
I too love the Xmas tree quilt that you have hanging. I know borders are so amazing when we take the time to do them. These borders are wonderful and just make this quilt perfect. I always want to get the quilt done and not do the extra touches that make a quilt special.
Keep healing Mary!
Sincerely, Kathy from Ohio
The dogs now become your companions at times like these. Don’t you agree that they sense this is a calm time for you so they in turn become the same while you recuperate. They know!
Patti I’m so glad you are going to your holiday party and will have a fun report to give us. Sandy, good luck with getting all together for remembering your husband. We camped with someone from Canada who also has free health care and it wasn’t what I thought it was for outcomes and waits. He was grateful to be in the states when his mom took ill while we were camping together otherwise she never would have been seen as quickly back home he said.
It’s so nice hearing how everyone around you is chipping in to get you back on your feet. Kindness matters as in a sign that is all around yards in a neighboring town from us.
Have fun being Santa Claus! That’s a new one “ordering online under the influence.” 😃😃 I love it!
Kathy – I’ll bet you’re right about the dogs – we’re all pretty calm around here right now – thankfully. And I swear I’m Keeper’s emotional support person – I hope I never have to leave him again.
Hazel is a good nurse 🐶🤣 so sweet to see her on your lap and Keeper at your feet – they are taking care of Momma!
The stockings are beautiful and all the Christmas quilts and decorations are a treat to look at – such fun
Your dinner looks sooooo yummy! I have to roll my eyes at the “let’s catheterize her” nurse story – good old fashioned communication (like her maybe suggesting you try to pee??) would solve a lot of issues – seems like today healthcare professionals (not all by any means!) don’t want to talk to you anymore!
Continuing to pray for a full recovery – know we out here in blog land love you!!
Love the music and now I need to go get some embroidered doilies and put on chairs!
Everyone is sending such wonderful photos of Christmas decorations.
We all need more nurse Mollys in our lives.
Hi Mary, can’t believe those nurses! Is it a ruse to be able to charge you more during your hospital stay? Hospital care is free in New Zealand, bit overloaded ,so l try to keep well. Nice to hear you play the piano, if only haz5 knew the words! Tomorrow we are having a small get together to remember my husband, so have been working hard to tidy up. Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
P.S. Patti, l hope your arm heals soon.
thanks, sandy. i got the skin laid back down the right way and it appears to be healing the right way. thanks again, patti in florida
Patti – oh, your poor finger!!!
Love your outside decorating. It is so good hearing your positive daily reports; it is amazing the difference between today compared to two weeks ago. Your sister is a wonderful person. And, Ema is a great friend, stew and homemade bread-yum! Her children are adorable.
I have a sister who is 13 years younger than me. She is both my best friend and the daughter I never had. She is the most nurturing person ever.
Stay Warm/Take Care, Mary 🥰
Love the Christmas quilt that you put up outdoors. Is that a Country Threads pattern? Best wishes that you continue to feel better each day.
Yes, it’s a Country Threads pattern – it’s on the cover of the book shown in the photo
lovely photos, lovely decorations. great looking stew and bread. ema and her kids are so cute. and so nice to you. the dogs will recover. they will make up for lost time when they can run around again.
so nice of becky to help you so much. do you need to be carrying that much already? sorry.
little bit of straightening up in my mini studio. thinking about cutting more pieces that are 3.5×6.5″. some in novelty prints/animals. putting up books, etc. made a couple of 9-patches and a block for the final month of blocks by jen. at least i got to sew.
rolled over in bed last night and hit my arm on the nightstand. tore the skin right back on itself. geesh, i can’t even sleep without getting hurt. crazy.
tomorrow will be crazy, up and out of here early. we are taking the dinnerware and silverware. others will bring the food. will be fun to see all the challenges. we are a lively group so it will be fun. thanks again for all the compliments on the blue/white quilt challenge. blessings to all. patti in florida
I had to smile at your comment, What would I do without my sister? I ask myself that every day. Sisters are the best!! And I am so lucky to have such a great one.
