March Snow, 3-30-25

Almost looks like a quilt pattern

Reader photos

Such a great quilt – all from her stash

An unusual block that I don’t think I’ve ever seen before

Lots of basketball over the weekend. I remember last year when Caitlyn was playing and one time when I even skipped church to watch a Sunday game that started at 11. I also remember telling my friends the year before about her and several said – never mind, they weren’t interested in women’s basketball. I’ll just bet they’ve all heard of her by now.

I’m so looking forward to the WNBA season starting in May.

Karla T. I love your quilt. Your colors are great and I really like the pattern. I have that ruler and several patterns. I just need to grab some fabric and play.
The star improv quilt is great. All of those blocks go together wonderfully.

Karla T your snowball quilt is fabulous! Your choice of fabrics and colors are great. Mary, the improv quilt is great! I live any with stars in them. It was in 80s last week. Today it’s 40s. Feels cold for sure. But thankfully, we didn’t get the tornado damage that the northern part of the state got. Happy April fools day tomorrow.

Betty, in answer to your question about washing cotton ironing covers. I have washed mine two times and even used some bleach. It did ok. I let it air dry. At least I could use it longer that way.

Mary, the snow created some interesting textures and designs outside. Karla T, what a great looking quilt, and I love your choice of fabrics. I’ve never made a quilt with curves, but I may have to give it a try. The second quilt is very nice . . . interesting assembly, clever to prove before and after shots. To the Michigan blog readers: Hopefully you are all safe, and made it through this past weekend’s dangerous and wild weather without injury, damage or loss of power. We dodged the ice storms, and the severe thunderstorms moving across Michigan on Sunday evening. We did have two days of rain, some very heavy at times. More potentially severe weather is heading our way on Wednesday. March is ending like a lion, and I am not sure what April is going to do. Janice Traverse City area.

It’s spring. Just wait 5 minutes and the weather will change. Be patient. We got 15/100″ of moisture over a 3 day period. Not much, but we are grateful. It does put a damper on the fire danger.

Karla, Your Posh Snowball is very nice. Such an interesting pattern.

Mary, did you get that thimble? Got the magnifying glass out and mine has Prim written VERY small on it. I have several thimbles and this one is my favorite for industrial sewing!!

I have a question for everybody. I made a cover for my ironing board out of beautiful blue cotton drapery fabric and it is getting stained. My question is does anybody WASH the covers, or just throw them away and start over? Or maybe I should just use the silver stuff?

In the meantime, spring has sprung!!!!! Pretty soon the grass will need mowing. And I saw my first robin on Saturday. Betty in Rapid City

Betty, I make my own too. I haven’t bought one in many years. I like to go to JoAnns and buy their reduced upholstery fabrics for around $5 so will start looking for pieces now at thrift stores to use. I’ll go pick up some colorful pieces before they officially close so I have them. Mine get so stained from spray starch and water leaking out of my iron. So I don’t wash them cause I like seeing different fabrics on the ironing boards.

Caitlin keeps making headlines in the very best way. Saw her in my feed today. She is a STAR on and off the court.

Marlene – yes, she is! The only thing I’ve ever heard her say that I was sorry to hear was that she doesn’t like cats.☹️

Mary, snow!?! It is pretty, but I am ready for warm weather. I cheered for anyone who was not mean to Caitlyn last year! So there to those coaches and/or players who were nasty.
The quilts are so pretty. Will have to think about the improv. I like the idea. We went to our grand daughter’s golf match yesterday. Rainy, windy, cold. My Eddie Bauer jacket let me down. She did well despite the cold and rain.
How is the kitty with the infection? I forget which one. I hope it is better:)

Thank you. Ours are ready for warmer weather, too! 🐈‍⬛

Good to hear you are alive and well, Betty😀. Warm weather is coming!

Wow, those are great quilts today.
The ice covered farm is beautiful. I hope it warms up and doesn’t cause damage, but enjoy the beauty whilst it lasts.

Tomorrow, my stitches come out. Wednesday, my eye exam…possibly prep for cataract surgery. Maybe by Mother’s Day I’ll be good I’ll ever be.

Karla T’s quilt is gorgeous! Mary, I don’t envy you with the snow but we could sure use a good rain here in Kansas.

  10. Marie C

Karla T I love your quilt. I also think the star improv quilt is great. Mary you got the best kind of snow. It’s pretty but will also be gone soon. I’m ready for spring. I planted my tomatoes last week. My peppers and rosemary have been up for about 8 weeks. They are looking good.

      1. Marie C

They are all under grow lights in the basement. I start my own plants so I can get heirloom plants. I also save money doing it this way. I’m already planning for next year.
I’m going to add another set of lights.

I love Karla T’s quilt. Beautiful. Also the improv quilt turned out really nice. a great way to use orphan blocks and pieces. I save them all but haven’t done anything with them yet.

  12. Barbara (in MO)

Wow, Karla T. I love your quilt! I have the Sew Kind of Wonderful ruler and made a wedding ring quilt for my son and wife. It wasn’t the easiest thing to put together but maybe it was me.
The quilt with the stars is just what I hope to learn to do. Its amazing how the first pile of scraps and leftovers becomes that lovely quilt.

      Barbara,
I was wondering if you were way ahead of me assembling an improv quilt top. Wish I had the skill set to do what the reader did with this one, I agree this is what I want to do too. I’m starting with sewing some of my tiny HST first and think of a middle to work off,
Karla your quilt is fantastic. Love your stash colors you chose. I just don’t want to buy one more ruler to make it. I’ve been donating rulers I bought in the past and will never use.
We woke to ice on all our trees and power line’s yesterday morning but quickly melted as we went to 60 degrees.
