We are blowing away again today – yesterday was the most perfect day with no wind at all but I was inside watching The Masters and I missed it.
News about “the cat” – she is a he! I took him to the vet today because he was sniffling and I didn’t want a sick cat around here but my very agreeable vet deemed him healthy except for ear mites and lice – yup, lice! So he got treated for that and I made an appointment to have him neutered.

Every single time I do all this vet work on a barn cat, the cat leaves forever. It’s a double edged sword – I don’t want another cat and I spend all the money for vaccines, etc and then they leave. I guess it’s just about the money then, isn’t it?
So – boy names next – you’ll come up with some good ones, I know.
From a reader

And the pattern is available – $5.00 and SASE. Send to address on home page.

I’m rethinking the garage sale – after your comments last night I knew the average quilter wouldn’t want my stuff to add to their burgeoning stash – you don’t even know what to do with your own fabric! And no younger people want “stuff” – they also aren’t quilters so why would I put myself through this? I dread hauling it to town, sitting there for almost two days worrying about the dogs at home. Sam’s got the right idea – she takes her things to the thrift stores in North Iowa which is smarter than me.
Now this looks like a fun project to me – saw it online – just a random 9 patch of some of the most unappealing fabrics – I love it!

Rick’s friend Mike came down yesterday when it was so nice and they took the porch covers off but today has been too cold to even step out there. This quilt is something I could easily do on the porch – not much concentration needed! Ha!
For those of you who don’t know how to leave a comment on the blog, look at the top of your page – click on “read on blog”. It should take you online so you can leave a comment. It’s also where to click on the ads.
I took this picture today when I was at the vet office.

So – the big news is that she is a he and I might scratch the garage sale. I’ve had an exhausting day.

He sure is a cute cat! 🐈⬛ Lots of suggestions for names. How about a simple one…Spot…for the spot on his nose.
I had my last garage asks when I moved/downsized 10 years ago. Just too much work for what you get, I did fo a booth at a local quilt shop for a stash sale. Same result…very little $ for the work to prepare. I think mystery boxes would be a good idea with recipient paying the shipping, and maybe a set amount donated above the shipping cost that would go to an organization of your choice.
How about Barney for a name…..where you found him.
Nan – yes, I think that’s it – I tried it out and put it on his vet records. Barney it is! You win!
After reading all the name suggestions, Rory seems to be the popular choice, doesn’t it? Or, how about Mac as an alternative?
Every time I was part of a family or neighborhood garage sale it was my last, haha. My niece is clearing out my collector sisters house. She sells quite a bit on Facebook marketplace. Bundles of like things together. Just a thought.
The name ‘Buster’ came to me as I looked at your new kitty. I like names that are easy to say when you call or talk to them.
I gave up on garage sales years ago – just too much work. If you itemize your taxes and donate stuff to charity, you can take a write off on it. WAY easier than garage sales!
The nine patch quilt is very busy but would be fun to make. I noticed that each block center is different than the other fabrics in the block.
Mary
Here is an idea for anyone wishing to downsize their quilting material and pass some blessings to shelter kittens. I recently donated bath and hand towels to the ARL. While at ARL the universe spoke to me and said I should make small quilts for the cats/kittens awaiting forever homes. I have learned tht ARL uses small quilts to comfort small kittens in their care. The kitties scent get on the quilts that later go with them as they are adopted . There are various websites out there with particulars about making “kennel quilts”. I am getting great satisifaction making what I call “kitty adoption quilts”. I am making 13 ln. X 13in. sized kitty quilts. Just contact your local shelter for their particular needs.
Hi Mary: You are getting smarter regarding extra work. My husband always used to say to me, “You certainly know how to “make work” and he was right!!!!!!
The kitty is so cute. I will stick with my choice: sparkle.
Hope it warms up and feel like spring.
I follow your blog daily and would love a mysery box of your fabrics and would gladly pay the postage plus for shipping. Making a table top or runner of your fabric would be thrilling to me.
I thought the comments were at the end of your site, thus I wrote twice. Sorry
I also suggested as you did, I thought that it would make it easier to request a random choice of fabrics for $30 and $20 for postage. Guess not.
Lucky you, “she” is a he and not pregnant. Our cat was dropped off in the country and the folks that took her in had so many already they advertised her in the paper. That’s how we got her. She was pretty traumatised. She never wanted to go outside. We named her Holly because she joined our family in December. Best car ever!
Ha! I was showing my husband the picture of your kitty and then told him the story about how it turns out it’s a “he”. Pete’s comment was, with all of the cats Mary’s owned, you’d think she could tell a boy from a girl! We had a handsome male cat years ago that we named Clint. Loved that cat. I would love it if you did offer fabrics in the mail but I know it’s a lot of work. I get most of my fabrics now at my needlework guild’s table. We donate fabrics, books, anything crafty and the guild sells it for very little money but it all adds up. Many people make quilts from the fabrics or knit items from the yarn that they donate to local charitable organizations. I do hope your new little fella sticks around! Jan in MA
Jan – in my defense, the room is quite dark and he’s on a bale above my head. When he jumped down I looked quick – I guess it was too quick – haha!!
That’s so funny! I’m just glad he found your farm to call home. It’s going to be fun seeing him in future posts. Jan
You have many good options here on names.
I think he’s a RUDY, with that nose….or ROSCOE.
Also, like someone said, I’d pay postage to get some of your great fabric scraps or yardage!!
Love your blog! Bonnie C in GA
I love the idea of getting a mystery package of your fabric and would gladly pay the postage. I foloow you daily and to be able to make a small table top or runner of your fabric would be special.
I take my gleaned out stash to my sisters, churches and people I know who will make donation quilts. She has MS so cannot shop at stores. That is my way of donating also . One of my sisters makes fancy feeding tube bags for the pediatric department at UAW Madison. She also makes lap quilts for nursing homes. Helps me get rid of stuff I do not want anymore or have lost interest in making..
I don’t remember the dog, but Mom and Dad named him Nuisance! And Mom said he was a real nuisance. I suppose I could have been called that, too, but maybe I was cuter?
About spreading the wealth of our sewing stash. My will says my sewing stash, needlework, etc. should go to Project Warmth group in our Quilt Guild. They are to come to the house and take EVERYTHING that involved sewing, knitting, machines, etc. They are the people who would be interested in the fabrics, patterns and whatever I’ve accumulated over a life of sewing. In turn they will distribute fabric, etc to other groups that will use it. That will leave some old furniture and a lot of dust.
I’ve told the family if they are interested in anything, speak up. I don’t think they are. I’m just not that interesting to them. They like cars, which went with Frank when he died. Frank was a car salesman. He always kept me in cars that ran well and all I needed to do was remember what they were and where I parked them. Also, he ALWAYS kept my gas tank filled. I’m still driving the last car he got for me: a 2004 Chevy Impala which now has over 200,000 miles on the odometer and runs great. I’m told the motor is great and will last longer than me. And I love it because it doesn’t have all that new stuff on it. Just the basics.
When I need a new car, I hope I can get one with ‘just the basics’– all that new stuff gets in the way of doing what I want to do, and then I don’t know how to ‘fix’ it.
Mary, I read a story about a shop that had a beginner’s corner where donated fabric and patterns were packaged and new, young quilters could “ shop” for supplies. There were rulers, cutters, scissors. After the young newbys caught the bug, they shopped in the regular section of the store. This store has been doing this for years and had huge clientele young quilters that started in the newby corner.
My neighbor had an estate auction, after the auction got their cut, he got about 10cents on the dollar. Very disappointing. After he passed away, there no longer was an emotional attachment to the stuff. He had great stuff. A teepee, horse saddles, pottery, art, sculptures, etc.
What a great idea, having a beginner’s corner.
Jo – what an excellent idea! Grab the young prospects when they’re interested!
Mary, all that vet work is not wasted! Very thoughtful of you to prepare this cat for whatever is ahead whether he’s at home or he goes roaming. He won’t impregnate any other cats, and he has a better chance of keeping his health. God bless you for your care.
The cat is so pretty! How about naming him Newt (for neutering). We have had 2 days of high winds. It’s windy almost all the time now. And lots of rain, too. Garage sales are a lot of work, for sure. I like the really scrappy quilt, too.
Wow, a lot of replies to this posting. I like the suggestion of Rory, but for some reason as I stare at his
photo all I can think of is Boxer for a name. I’m sure you will choose the best name for your new lucky cat. I hope he is smart enough to stick around. Keep us posted, we all enjoy reading about your life.
Name the cat Dog
I knew someone who had a cat named Puppy.
I miss seeing your sale items at the Junkin Gal in Garner. Don’t get there often, but always seeing your items was a definite draw to get me there.
How about Frankie for your newest cat. I love it when animals have people names. And I love the picture of that “crazy no matching involved” quilt. Funny how that type of quilt will be the most used.
Here in North Dakota the sun is shining, yea! So I will be washing windows this afternoon. I have been working on several grad quilts. I decided I would make quilts if I could use fabric from my stash and not go out and buy fabric. Five quilts so far!
That’s great you have made 5 quilts so far. I am doing the same for quilts to donate through our guild to the local hospital. Our guild provides the batting and backing.
Lori – love that you’ve made so many quilts with what you have. I love pulling fabric from my collection! I should be washing windows, too!
Lori – forgot to say – all my animals except Keeper have people names – I don’t care for “cat” names much.
What about Fluffy Bun?!
Sara – she came with that name – you can’t really think I named her Fluffy Bun!!!!
Her name makes me smile, though. Could shorten it to just Fluffy. Hope she is still getting along with the other cats.
Sara – she is much better with the other cats now and I think they realize she’s not really the threat she tries to portray – ha! Yes, many times I just call her Fluff. I do hate the name FluffyBun – ha!
I also think he looks like a Frankie to me! 🐾
If he’s going to be fixed, why not call him Nugget?
I agree that garage sales are too much work. I swore them off after the last one I had. Like someone else said, there is always someone who wants the items for less than the already rock bottom price you have it at . Than, you still have to pack up and decide what to do with the leftovers.
However, I’d love to be able to go to one of your sales. The idea of a surprise box of your fabric would be wonderful.
Your new cutie is adorable. Rory is a cute name and seems to fit him.
Do what pleases you Mary. I doubt it is worth the hassle getting stuff ready for a garage sale. I have done it too and it’s not worth it. I just give my stuff away a little at a time. Then I fill up those spaces with more fabric if I so desire. I just turned 80 and I do what I please any more. It’s not worth worrying about.
I am home for a week but I have not seen much of my sewing room lately. Hopefully today. I am in withdrawals.
I think Scooter would be a fun name for that cute little kitty. It was the first name that came to mind.
Our quilt group did a fun scrappy 9-patch project. Each person brought 10 squares of light fabrics and 10 squares of dark fabrics. The lights were lined up on one side of the table, the darks on the other side. At the head of the table you got a paper lunch bag (separate bag for each side) and you walked down one side putting one light square from each pile in your bag. Repeat this on the other side of the table using the other bag for the darks. Sitting in front of your sewing machine put your bags on the floor (darks on left, lights on right). WITHOUT LOOKING – grab one square from each bag and sew them together using the speedy nine patch technique (two at a time). Some of the combinations were unusual (batik fabrics with calicos, etc). Then you sew your blocks together into a top. It was fun seeing the different block combinations. Here’s a link to the two at a time technique:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7rBRrBJ_EqM&pp=0gcJCdgAo7VqN5tD
Give it a try, it’s fun!
What a fun project to do with your guild.
Scrappy quilts are my favorite. A few years ago I did the tru scrappy – NO LOOKING! It was a log cabin and sometimes it hurt to see what piece came next, but it actually turned out. Even the light side was true, but it all was very light and I think it is what calmed down the dark side. I still have that quilt. I made a second for my niece and she actually USES it on her bed.
Get brave. Try a true scrappy. It can be amazing.
Take care. Betty in Rapid City
I too, don’t even want to think about a garage sale. I donate my things to a thrift store called Making Space in Springville Utah. This thrift store is solely for sewing items, fabric, and some other craft supplies. I love it and I know other sewists enjoy it too. If anyone wants to start a business, this is a good one. Prices are fair and you never know what you’ll find.
Another vote for Rory!
HI Mary, since you were watching the Masters, how about Rory or Mac for McIlroy? Plus, he looks like our grand daughter’s kitty, Bogey Callahan that she got from the golf course. She was abandoned and they were not nice to her. Off for a haircut.
Barney is the first name that came to mind…but there are so many great names this morning for that very handsome little boy. God bless you for each one that you save Mary…
I as well, have tooooo much fabric and need to donate it as I don’t want my daughters to have to worry about it later on. I’m simply running out of time and energy to do all the things I thought I’d get done in one lifetime. Have a blessed Easter with family and friends.
I agree about garage sales—not worth it. The last time I had one years ago, I swore I’d never do it again. It’s SO much work to gather, mark, and organize stuff. If it’s more than one day you have to do something with it overnight. I’m like Mary Ellen—came to the conclusion that I’ve enjoyed it for x number of years, somebody else can enjoy it now. I’m fortunate that the Quilters’ Hall of Fame has live and silent auctions and the guild has a sale table at our Celebration every July, so I have a place to donate quilt/craft items. We have a no-kill animal shelter that runs the best thrift store in town. It’s all-volunteer and all the profits go to the shelter. They get all my household stuff.
Cute kitty! Dusty is a cute name!
Barney is sooo handsome! Looks like a sweetie 😻. Penny and Lucy give 2 paws 🐾 up!
You’re lucky to live close to Jo, she’s so kind and friendly.
Your boy looks like he is a very sweet kitty perhaps he won’t stay a barn cat! How about Keebler, the name of the sweetest boy I had, sometimes I called him Keebie. Sixteen pounds he was he thought he was a kitten and wanted to be held all the time! Still miss him!
How about Max for his name? Rory sounds fine though. I mailed most of my Mom’s and my Grandma’s quilts to younger cousins (my cousins’ kids). They don’t have anyone making quilts anymore, so it was a novelty to them. It didn’t cost them anything. I’ve had the quilts for 30 to 50 years and many had never been used. The cousins were tickled to get them. I wanted someone who would use them, but know that they came from family. I agree with the other readers who suggest giving the fabric away. I agree with some of your readers, it is very expensive to mail fabric as it is heavy.
Looks to me like “Smudge” if that is a permanent spot on the nose.
I love Smudge!! I was thinking it has to be something that mentions the spots on his nose.
My suggestion for your garage sale dilema – fill boxes, seal them up and sell with a set price as mystery boxes. People love the idea of buying a box of unknown treasures. And if you used the flat fee post office boxes, you could offer them to your readers with the buyer paying the shipping fee.
Myrna, that’s a great idea.
Second that idea. There must be a lot of your readers that can’t afford to buy new fabric but would love to keep making projects, and would be willing to pay the postage. At least you would know that your beloved fabric would be going to another person who will also love it!
It’s that old saying Life’s too short that I keep thinking about everytime I do cleaning out in my sewing room. Sew what I want to so I can see how it looks. Other stuff that’s alright but not special, goes now to a guild my friends remained with, others are donated to a craft thrift store and it goes before I think twice. There are young girls wishing to build up their stash like we all did at one time. But I’m with Sam on dishes and clothes – donate. I’ve enjoyed them and it’s too much work pricing and sitting around for customers to ask for an even better bargain.
I do like the nine patch as a scrap buster.
Thanks for taking care of the new kitty and truly Mary I do mean that. So many are neglected and I know your heart is in the right place spending money of your own to give them a life. I like Dusty for his name. Like I tell my kids, someday you’ll live long enough to say as we do “ what goes around, comes around”. You’ve been blessed with good health and a roof over your head.
The many pets you’ve shown compassion to and your desire to share sewing with us to is the reason we have your blog to look forward to each day.
Kathy – I would never try to sell clothes – and I never shop for clothes at thrift stores. Your comment about people asking for a better price reminds me of the quilt shop sales – it was never enough discount. Ultimately we couldn’t stay open. Just like the customer who bought a yard of silk matka at our sale for 25% off and then asked for a better deal on the remainder of the bolt – I’ll never forget it.
Mary, good grief. People never surprise me wanting something for nothing. Even bartering for less in a shop. Hard to believe the guts.
I did buy two beautiful quilted jackets from a quilters garage sale. Her husband and DIL did it once she passed. She must have made 15 jackets and now they are so popular.
I wished I had bought her vests but I left them and regret that. It was fill a bag for $5 of fabric – I know!!! What a bargain! I didn’t need most of it but I took 8 bags of batiks to the senior group of quilters I volunteer with and they made 45 quilts for charity with them.
Hi Mary! The cat Thanks you! Have you thought about listing your quilting items here? You can get free envelopes and or boxes from the Post Office that have a set mailing price. Just a thought…
Had to laugh that she’s a he — have a friend who just rescued a kitten, probably about 2-3 weeks old. They thought the cat was a he and went to the vet and the cat is a she. My name choice: Walter. but I think Rory is a great choice also. I hear you about not staying, but at least if you get the cat fixed you’ll limit the population, so I think you are doing a commendable thing.
Love that quilt!!!
Lynette – yes, I thought about that – keeping the kitten population in check as well as tomcat fighting.
We have lots of homeless cats in my town. All our cats are “show-ups” – they showed up, ate our food, kept coming back, and earned an Ultimate Extreme Makeover at the local vet – spay/neuter, vaccinations, parasite treatment, wound care, etc.
Some become our indoor cats, one claimed our garage, others just stop by for food and maybe some pets.
Taking care of these kitties is my idea of community service! We prevent more un-homed kittens from being born, more fighting, more wounds and infections, and more disease transmission. And I don’t have to go to any committee meetings or take a vote on anything!
Mary – yes!!! I feel the same way! I have only searched for one cat and that was Greta because Gracie had just come to us and I was quite sure she needed a pal so I did adopt her from the shelter. As it turns out Gracie is a loner by nature and Greta does her own thing – but now I wouldn’t give her up for anything. I hope I don’t acquire any more because I don’t know what will happen to them when I die. Will anybody care what happens to my very spoiled cats? Or will they give them to a farmer who will barely feed them in the barn?
I agree with the others who said Rory! You are a wonderful cat Mom! I very much agree with Bonnie and Tina, if people would like your fabric stash, they can pay you for the flat rate shipping. Why should you pay to send it to people?
The cost they will pay for shipping will be far less expensive than the wonderful fabric that will be inside the box. People pay for monthly subscriptions for fabric mystery boxes. Moda sells their scraps in bags and a flat rate box will hold so much more. It would be a such a surprise to open the box and see the beautiful fabric you have selected inside.
I would love this as well! I would definitely pay postage for some vintage fabrics! Jan in MA
I have both bought and sold fabric at garage sales. I’ve also taken and put fabric on the free table at guild. Guess it depends on how much time I have to get ready for a sale and whether or not it’s the time of year to have a garage sale. My guild just had our annual sale today. Members donated books, kits, fabrics, rulers, etc and then could shop by buying tickets and putting a ticket in a bag for the item they wanted. One name was drawn for each item. Our guild made nearly $500.
Mary, I agree with JC, that Rory is the perfect name for your sweet little guy. Bonus … he’s not pregnant! We sure enjoyed the Masters … what a nail-biter! I was so happy to see Rory McIlroy win. Have a great week!
Candy – I really like the idea of Rory!
Personally, I think yard/garage sales are just too much work for what little money you make! Seven yrs ago we downsized from a 2300 sq ft home with a full basement to a 1240 sq ft landomenium & no basement. I had tubs & tubs of fabric. I was the fabric & Craft mgr at the local Walmart when we had pretty good fabric. I found a group from the Lutheran church that made charity quilts for 3rd world countries. I donated all that fabric, but kept the quilt shop fabric. They were able to make 92 quilts to be donated! It made me happy that they put all that fabric to good use! Once a year I go through my fabric & if there’s something I know I’m not going to use, I donate to them. They’re such a wonderful group of ladies & I’m happy to help with their mission. I’m sure there’s other groups who might come & get anything you want to donate to make charity quilts!
The new kitten is a cutie pie; I love him. He is lucky to have found you, Mary.
According to my phone weather, we had 20 mph wind/30 gusts. This was not a good day to be out with all the pollen blowing around—makes me sneeze just thinking about it.
Thanks, Mary
Jeanie – and it looks like today is windy as well – I guess I’ll run errands today instead of trying to rake. I’m thankful I’m not allergic to pollen.
Or Billy
Hi Mary our boy was called Earl Grey (Earl for short).
Came to us with cuts and bruises after being beaten in a street brawl, rescued by our son and then lived the best life on our small farm.
He passed a few years ago now and we still miss him.
Cat name Henry! Alot of people just leave items and even furniture outside their homes and leave a Free sign on them! Just another way of downsizing.
I am de-stashing almost half of my fabric and hope to sell some at my yard sale on May 3rd but am not optimistic. I am advertising in my guild’s newsletter. On two occasions in the past I sent big boxes of fabric to people who asked for fabric for charity projects. It was very costly both times because fabric is heavy and I never even heard from either one with a thank you.I won’t do that again unless I can deliver it in person locally. I sew with a church group and have given them a lot of baby-oriented fabric. I know I will never use up all my fabric so I want it to go to people who will use it, not to the dump. And I don’t want to burden my family with disposing of all of it, so I am lightening the load now.
Best wishes as you decide on what to do with your things. Yard sales are a lot of work, especially if you have to bring everything to someone else’s house.
Sue – and there you have the reason I want to downsize NOW! I don’t want to burden my family with disposal. In fact I’m researching Estate Sale companies as another option.
I like Dude or Flash but don’t ask me why because I have no idea. LOL We had a male cat for a long time named Trouble.
Darlene in Arizona
Hi Mary, how about Bruce? (My late husband’s name). Once as l was walking back to the car after shopping, l heard a chap saying,,don’t Bruce ,, at the open car door. It was a large British bulldog in the car wanting to meet our 2 little dogs! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sandy – what a great name for a bulldog!!!
I agree with Heidi S. Contact Jo. One of her many blog readers could maybe be the go-between for you two and deliver your “goodies.” I think kitty looks like a Sam. He is so cute.
Mary, I checked the map. Did you know the you and Jo are only 1.5 hours away from each other? Ha! I’m sure you already knew that. May Arnie and John could take a Sunday drive…….
Martha – did you mean Arnie and Jo? Who’s John? Yes, I do know Jo and I live quite close – she used to shop here when her kids were little. One time I heard frantic screaming outside by the playhouse and I ran out of the shop terrified that somebody had broken bones or was covered in blood! Nope, it was just Jo’s kids playing! Ha! They wrote me the sweetest apology note saying they were sorry they scared me. What a memory!
I was also thinking that Jo might be a good person to give some of your fabric too, if there’s a way to get it to her that doesn’t involve mailing. She seems to do so much with fabric and projects that quilters send her when they’re not interested in them anymore. Especially orphan blocks and partially done projects.
Mary,
You are a good cat mama. And that nine patch quilt…ooh…that’s busy.
About the fabric, I make blocks for two different organizations, Many Hands and Many Hearts and Covered in Love. Both will take unfinished projects, orphan blocks, fabric, etc. I would be happy to provide you with more information. Both of these are recognized charities. The work they turn out is terrific.
P.S. I am putting something in the mail for you on Tuesday…you may find it helpful.
Does the post office still have those one price to mail boxes? Fill them up with left overs and we’ll buy them. I for one am always looking for unusual colors for my one-patch quilts. I truly love seeing what other fabrics people collect and don’t care how old they are.
Yes, flat rate priority mail. A top close, medium box is currently $19.15…I know this because I just mailed two of them.
Mary, how about TOM
How about Winston or Whiskers for a boy kitty name. He’s a cutie.
I like your big star pattern also!
I hear you about the garage sale! My neighbor and I have done one for years and last year I was exhausted! The set up and tear down alone is a lot and I spent time putting out quilting stuff – trying to pare down and didn’t sell one bit of it! Lots of work for nothing. In my mind, I think I want to keep doing garage sales but I realized after it was over last year – why bother?? I want to spend my time and energy doing other things.
The only “he” name I could think of was Jasper – not very original 🤣
Love the parking pic – good grief 🙄
The scrappy quilt of mismatched fabric reminds me of a “utility quilt” we have from a family member made in the 1930’s. It has the ugliest scraps sewn together in a jumble but it was for warmth not style. For some reason I absolutely love it! Guess it reminds me of how people used every little bit of fabric to create and care for their family’s……
Thanks for another great post!
Kelli – Jasper is out – a friend just got a new puppy and named him Jasper which I like very much. Nope, I refuse to work that hard during my favorite month of the year – MAY! It’s futile and Garner is a small town. Nobody but me really sews that much. In fact when we were in business and people were driving hours to come to the quilt shop, people in town didn’t even know we were here!
Smudge
How about Dusty for the kitty? Congrats to all for getting the ‘ take down ‘ of Long Tall Chicken from Etsy…. You all helped! I say forget the garage sale too….. you sleep better! My comments / advice to quilt friends who try to sell ‘their stuff’ ….furniture, etc at garage/thrift sales…… you won’t make any money! Some comment back…… I paid this much for it…… yes you did……and you enjoyed it while you owned it and used lots of that fabric…….time to let it go to groups using it for charity quilts, pet beds, veterans quilts, etc. you know the words to the song …… Let it go!
Happy Spring, 🥰
Mary Ellen
Mary Ellen – I’m not trying to make any money- just trying to clean out. I would never do the comparison of “I paid this much for that…..”. It’s just not a valid point.
Does your church have a quilt group?
If, not find a church that has a group then donate to them. You excess stash would make some beautiful scrappy quilts.
How about “Barney”, the barnyard cat!
Mary J – yes, my church quilt does make quilts but they are buried in fabric now and the number of ladies who show up to sew has dwindled to a handful.
If you decide you want to donate the fabric, Jo at Jos Country Junction has people who will take free fabric to make charity quilts. I troll garage and estate sales for fabrics. I love vintage fabrics.
How about Henry for a name? It was a beautiful spring day today 18C (only 65F) but it felt like 75 in the sun. It was so nice. I got out in the garden to rake up moss for a bit.
I was watching one of the late shows the other night and I can’t remember who the actress was but she shared, when someone does something that isn’t nice or says something rude she says, I forgive you. She said it typically makes them mad or looking stunned and inside she laughs. Only once someone said what did I do and her answer always is, I forgive you. I thought that was pretty funny. Maybe it makes people think about what they’ve done.
