Mayo emailed me!!!! I have a phone appointment set up for tomorrow at 2:30 and an in-person appt on August 6. Dr. Mobley did it!
Here’s a quote from C. Lutz, a reader from KS. It’s a classic and I just had to share it with all of you.
“Being in the hospital is no fun. Sounds like a good idea – laying in bed, meals delivered, binging all day with mindless TV. People send cards and flowers. If you could bring the dogs it would be pure heaven except they take away all your clothes and leave you in a backless nightgown that refuses to stay tied. Someone has to take you to the bathroom and measure what goes into the huge baggie that is somehow attached to your bladder.
They bathe you – one of my nurses was enjoying it way too much. Another sweet young nurse wanted to wash my hair with dry shampoo. She wheeled me down to a larger sink, doused me with water and begin to vigorously work the shampoo into my hair. Within an hour it had dried into a concrete helmet – hard as a rock. I don’t think she understood the concept of DRY shampoo. It took weeks to get it all out.
They promise rest and recuperation so they tuck you into bed with warm blankets so you get nice and cozy – until they start stopping by every 2 hours to check your IV and vitals, give you a couple of shots (relatively simple thanks to your nightgown) and have you swallow 25 pills with a 1/4 cup water.
It’s a miracle that anyone ever makes it out alive! Take care of yourself – the alternative is back to the hospital!“
Sending love and healing prayers,
Connie, Kent, Mabel and Addie
Thank you, Connie! Beautifully written – I loved it!!

Remember all those little triangle squares I put together? Now it’s on the quilting machine. Since I decided on this layout, I saw another one I liked so much better but sadly, it was too late. Binding next.
Cynthia has sent us a synopsis of the baby bluebirds – they have fledged and I can’t thank her enough, as well as Sherry and the monarchs, for this education.

Closing with this fabulous poster sent to me by Lucy – she knows me well! Hahaha! I am a bad influence on my pretend grandchildren.

Glad you finally got some appointments – I will keep you in my prayers that you get answers.
I went to the UPS store recently to drop off a package and every car there had been parked by an a$$hole. Three were sucking up two spots each, one was diagonally parked and took up three spots. I parked far away because I figure if they can’t park, they can’t drive either.
Christine – were you tempted to go into the store and ask them to raise their hand if they knew how to park? Honestly!!!
I’m so glad your new doctor got the ball rolling. Now forward progress can be made. Sending prayers.
Having been a patient in the hospital countless times, I concur with the quote from C. Lutz. Hilarious and true!! A good place to avoid if at all possible.
I’m thinking that ice cream poster is from Nisswa, MN, since it says Nisswa at the bottom of the poster. That is just 15 miles from where I grew up in MN, and Nisswa is a very large tourist area in the summer, and a very small town the rest of the year. (How many Nisswa’s can there be??) 🙂
I, too, and happy to hear you getting some results from your new doctor. We will be so anxious to see what lies ahead for you. Still praying for you.
And, I too, am missing hearing from Betty in Rapid City. Hope she is okay. Always enjoyed reading her entries.
We had more rain again last night, so over 8″ since Sunday night.
Jeanine – yes! Nisswa, MN!
Oh Mary, Great news on the appointments!!! I am praying you get some answers this week.
Love that A$$hole parking sign😜🥴😂 Someone wrote what we were thinking…
Sending much love and prayers your way!
Mary,
You’re HST quilt will be very pretty. Mainly, it will be done – never too late to finish a quilt and start another. :)! Just curious, as others, as to the pattern that piqued your interest.
Dr. Mobley is a wonderful answer to prayers. If we knew the location of her office I’m thinking there would be many notes of thanks to her from your blog readers!
Does anyone use Irish Spring from it’s initial intended use – to bathe?! I’ve learned to use it for tomato plants and now to remove the smell of smoke.
The things you learn from the “blog about nothing” is really a platform for humor, inspiration, beautiful pictures of various subjects, “pen pals”, words of wisdom, shared experiences and more. Thank you, Mary!
Jan
Jan – I’ll
See if I still have that picture saved / I’ll post it
To Jo in Wyoming: My daughter and I are both shoppers at Fig Leaf, so we know Laura and also Melody. Just bought a new sewing machine from her last year for my daughter. Great shop and great help. Small world, isn’t it?
There is also a great shop here in Loveland called Quilters Dream . Have you been there? Jeanne in Co.
Mary, your situation with your health issue is finally getting attention. I hope your call from them today will be what is next for your appointment scheduling, etc. you have a long haul ahead of you, I say for you to be kept sitting in limbo is not the way I expect health systems to work. I am glad you went to see another doctor. All we have in this life is our health, and I am so hoping the medical teams at Mayo will be able to help you and give you answers. I appreciate that you have been so sharing. A lot of us, maybe most of us, ever talk openly. A year ago I was in the hospital with pulmonary emboli, I am so grateful to the medical team at the hospital in Marshall.
Cindy – this is too serious to not be honest. I store this blog about what I’m doing and what’s happening / how could I not share this with you, too!
THANKK YOU for sharing your ‘cretive spaces! When covid hit I lost my little sewing room to my husband’s needs. The diningroom table is my space. Some days you can see the table other days, not. I miss ot sewing so today I am putting blocks together for a quilt for my neice for her wedding.
I enjoy each and every picture right down to the Mt. Dew bottle. MY favorite is the ‘ass hole parking’. Genius! I never have a piece of chalk with me, but that has given me so inspiration!
Mary, I am thrilled that your new primary got on the stick and you are getting things figured out. Continued prayers!
Have an awesome day !!!
It’s good to know the new doctor got things moving. The pictures are great today. I liked seeing the progression of the baby birds. The triangle quilt is so pretty. Thinking of those in the path of the fires.
The hospital analogy is right on. I spent Dec 2023 & Jan 2024 in either U of M hospital or a rehab facility. Then 2 months of in home nurse and PT. Felt like longest 4 months of my life.
OMG I love the red car photo. Humerous way to send a message.
Mary somehow I think I missed some of your blog posts. Have you gotten your biopsy results yet?
Missed posts are my fault. After the spinal surgery in December that they messed up and then rrpair surgery in January I managed to burst fracture thoracic #9. It will require surgery because there is a shard of bone in the spinal canal.putting pressure on the cord. I have an appt next week with neurosurgery.
gayle, prayers for you as you go forward in your ‘restoration’ surgery. spinal pain is some of the worst in my opinion. take care of yourself. patti in florida
Gayle – can you believe I still do t know the results? Nobody will tell me but on Tuesday I think they’ll have to, won’t they?
Finally, good news. Thank god for Dr. Mobley and your perseverance to keep after everyone. Connie’ s piece is a classic and unfortunately too true. But it’s good to keep your sense of humor. Keep hanging in there.
Karen C.
This morning reading your post has made me smile. Great stories and wonderful photos! Keep your optimism and positive thoughts going. I am praying for you.
We had a terrible windstorm with a thunderstorm early evening, Tree damage I heard throughout this town. Not heard much about surrounding areas yet. I spent @bout 30 min in the basement. Flowers were stripped from plants on my. Front porch. No tornadoes that I know of.
Great news Mary, you’ll finally get some answers! I love the story about the hospital stay, so true!!
Mary, so glad you are getting help. Where does Dr Mobley practice ??
So happy you are moving ahead in this putout medical issue. Thoughts and prayers!
The sign at the ice cream shop is awesome! Yum!
The description of the hospital is too true! They didn’t weigh me in the middle of the night tho. I did get some sleep under those nice warm blankets! They need to do something about those annoying IV machines!
We had a little shower overnight. It will make the green beans bloom again! Yesterday I went to check the zucchini and cucumbers. I found the biggest zucchini I have ever seen! So heavy I could hardly lift to pull off the vine! I rolled it under the rhubarb! Ugh! I hate it when they hide under the leaves 😂.
I’ll be thinking about you all day!
Hi Mary, so glad for you to finally get an appointment and have a Dr. that you like.
The quilt you have on the longarm is wonderful, but you said you saw a different layout that you liked better. Would you have a picture of the better one?
Thanks for the conversation 😎.
So glad you have those appointments! That new doctor is just what you needed. Your pain improving probably means your body is absorbing the blood that went into your abdomen.
Great pictures of the bluebirds and butterflies.
Glad to see that other people have messy sewing rooms. Don’t you think that is a sign of genius?
I have heard that messy rooms are a sign of genius!
Prayers for you ! Happy finally a doctor who cares! Today I saw on the news Iowa’sState fair has a life size cow made out of butter! Fascinating! Have you ever seen it. I believe they do it every year.
So happy you’re finally hearing from Mayo! Love the beautiful bluebirds. This is the fourth day of hot and humid temperatures here in Michigan. I need to get my sewing mojo going as I’ve been in a slump for a while!! Take care everyone and be safe.
Prayers for you Mary, as you get news from Mayo
You know, it might be an idea to ask to talk to the head nurse of that department and explain the situation – really – wake you up to weigh you or even give you pills. Sleep is the most important medicine you can have.
Mary, now that you have a great doctor, your life will change for the better. Yeah! We had to shop around until we found a gem. She and her entire staff are wonderful to us. Love them all.
Patti, It’s wonderful to hear you are progressing. I sure admire your fighting spirit.
Today, I’m promising myself I WILL get to the sewing machine. It’s August already. The stores are full of school supplies. Where did the summer go????
Great news Mary but it sure took Mayo long enough. You must be feeling better since you got a quilt on the long arm. I have enjoyed the blue birds and the butterflies too. Cute sign.
Donna Jo – I have no pain now but have no idea why it quit. The quilt is now ready for binding – glad it’s done but I have several more waiting.
So happy you found Dr. Mobley, finally you will get answers and game plan, good!!!
Love your pretend grandchildren’s poster and your wonderful quilt on the longarm I had forgotten you made that one, lovely! Fun seeing the bluebirds, Thank You Cynthia! I get them here in the Spring but never see the babies till they are grown, they are one of my favorite birds!
What a hoot the hospital letter was, most can relate to it unfortunately!
Thank You Mary for this blog about nothing!
Hi Mary! That’s excellent news! Hopefully you will have some answers soon. Mayo should be ashamed of themselves. It’s supposed to storm here in Wisconsin today, so I’m reading a book with my dogs. I hope the call goes well.
Think everyone can relate to the hospital stay. Great that you finally found a doctor that’s taking your case seriously. What an awesome sewing space. Has been interesting following the birds and butterflies.
mary, i am so happy for you that you have an appointment.
i laughed and laughed at connie’s story about the hospital visit. it is so true. come in every couple hours to see how you are and if you’re sleeping. yeah, i was sleeping when you woke me up! totally true story.
i have been able to walk without the cane today. took a week and i’m still taking the muscle relaxers – not completely out of the woods but progress. still hurts terribly but can walk without cane even though i still can’t stand up straight.
i stitched the blocks today. only changed two blocks. not sure about it but it looks okay. some toddler or baby will like it. now to decide if i want to put a border on it, then find a back and make a binding.
didn’t sleep well last nite but slept for a couple hours during the day. so now i’m going to try to sleep for the rest of the night.
prayers and hugs to all, patti in florida
Yeah!!! You heard from Mayo. They certainly needed a shove from Dr. Mobley. That hospital letter was a hoot! Sadly it is true though. I’m keeping positive thoughts for good news.
Oh Mary, I am so happy that you have “appointments”. Hopefully some answers will come from at least one of them–better yet, both of them
Dorothy in W WA
Our sincere thanks to Dr. Mobley!
Your triangle quilt on the quilting machine is bright and beautiful.
Connie’s description of a hospital stay was hilarious – and so true, I’m afraid.
Prayers for good health and answers continue, Mary, and many thanks for this blog.
Mayo called. Wonderful. What a relief. I’ve been woken up from a deep sleep so the nurse can give me a sleeping pill! Lab comes in at 5 am to draw blood and turns on every light in the room. Am so thrilled Mayo is following up. Everyone is rooting for you.
The Colorado fire near Loveland has now burned 7648 acres with only one percent containment. It is 10 miles from our house. Though the officials have not yet issued an evacuation of our homes, my daughter and I thought it would be a good idea to pack a suitcase and begin to get our valuables together. Of course, our quilts were the first to be folded and ready to stow in the cars, but with the garage smelling so much of smoke, we decided to wait, so right now, everything in stashed in the front room. Thankfully the winds today were blowing away from us, but that could change in an instant. Tomorrow the Hot Shot firefighters are to arrive, those extra experienced firefighters may be the ones who can begin to contain the fires. Right now there are four separate fires burning in Co. Boy, could we ever use some of that rain that Iowa is getting. Prayers would be appreciated.
Jeanne in Co.
Jeanne – I would be terrified!!! Yes, I’ll pray for containment of those fires- stay safe!!!
jeanne, prayers for you and your family for safety from the fires. remember your lives are the most important things. patti in florida
Maybe you’ve already done this, but do you think storing your quilts in plastic bags would keep the smoke smell out? Just a thought. Good luck, and stay safe!
Jeanne, Laura at The Fig Leaf, told me to put a bar of Irish Spring soap in with quilts to rid them of smoke. She has been through your situation many times and that is what she does. I tried it with some leather pieces I was given from a smoker…yep, it took a couple months, but it worked.
Laura has quilts from the early 1800’s that cannot be washed. Irish Spring is her solution.
I wrap the bars in paper towels, just in case. I stick them in my stash as well.
Communication! Hooray! Praying for good news.
Loved the letter about the hospital. 🙂
Hi Mary, glad things are finally going well! Love the last letter, getting weighed in the middle of the night, l have heard of everything now!The sewing room is my kind of mess, can’t even keep fabric folded! Got bitten by something last night. ,my left eyelid is puffy and under the eye is puffy too, not stopping me work on my string stars though,.Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sandy – you need to take some Benadryl, my dear!
That description of a hospital stay is so true. My husband was a very light sleeper, (he blamed it on Viet Nam), and once when he was there toward the end when he was so sick, this battery operated machine kept alarming because the batteries ran out about every 30 minutes. Enough is enough. One night he ask the nurse to hand him the machine. He took his pocket knife out and fixed it. No more run down batteries, no more alarms, no more 30 minute sleep interruptions. It has a different power source during the day so no alarms. The nurse was happy and he got to sleep a little longer.
Mary, I’ll be think about all day. Goodness, I hope you have good news, or at least, acceptable news.
The bluebird pictures are fascinating. Mother Nature is remarkable.
Jo – I can just see a husband getting rid of that alarm!! Yes, Onnie’s wrote the perfect hospital story, didn’t she? But weighing a patient in the middle of the night? Good grief!!
Hooray! So happy the Mayo appointment is scheduled and soon!
Great news, Mary! I’m so glad everything is moving forward with your medical care. So glad Dr. Mobley came through for you!
Loved the photos and the summary of a hospital stay!
I needed that chuckle! Thank you.
I stopped at a thrift store yesterday. I picked up some cards, a quilt pattern, and a bundle of fat quarters. It was so fun to do something different and off the beaten path.
Take care!
I’ve enjoyed the nature lessons. Eager to see the Monarchs ‘hatch’. Also like the last pic. if there is a choice it will always be ice cream!
So happy to hear you finally get to see a doctor!!!! Continued prayers that they get it all figured out and fixed quickly so you can get on with your life!
Loving all the sewing room pics! Tons of inspiration
Mary, Love the piece about being in the hospital. Last time I was in the hospital at 1:30 am the nurse comes and wakes me up to weigh me. I could not believe it. You do not get any rest in the hospital Glad you found someone to find some answers. Pray that you get some good results.
We are hot hot 93 today and tomorrow 100. Still in severe drought. No rain in site.
Carolyn b Shenandoah Valley Va
Carolyn – how can you stand those hot temps????
