Love all the patriotic quilts, table runners, & table toppers! Just beautiful! The 5th quilt on 7/4 (I think!) was featured in McCalls Quilting magazine many years ago. I made that same quilt for my son when he returned from being deployed to Germany. The bunting across the top was difficult to find, but did find it in Holmes Co, Ohio. That’s a beautiful quilt! My son (now retired from the Army National Guard) loves his! My next quilt is a Quilt of Valor for a dear friend of Ron’s

The quilts are beautiful and inspiring. Thank you to all who shared. I am especially smitten with the 13 stars flag quilt. If someone, or the sender, knows the name of the quilt would you please share.

    1. Lorraine Troescher

Darlynn I gave you the wrong info that was for another quilt. If you would message me I’ll send the info on the 13 Stars ~ it’s a very old pattern. Lorraine

Thanks for sharing all the beautiful patriotic quilts. I especially loved the one with the Ohio Stars in the blocks and the sashing. They’re inspiring me to make a red, white and blue quilt for our country’s birthday next year. But which of the other quilts on my want to do list will I have to postpone?

    1. Lorraine

That quilt is a Bonnie Hunter pattern that should still be on her site in the free pattern file.

      1. Darlynn Venne

Thanks for the information Lorraine. Checked her site and not there. She may have taken it down.

Here is the direct link to the free Plus & X pattern at Stash Bandit, as I posted in a comment yesterday.

    https://stashbandit.net/plus-and-x-block-instructions/

Hope that saves you a search. It makes a 10-inch block; you could scale it up or down, but since it’s on a 5-patch grid, make it a multiple of 5 to avoid having odd measurements for the patches.

    Great quilts. So much creativity.
Thinking of everyone, each with their health challenges. We’re like a prayer chain of sympathetic hearts. May God bless each and everyone.

I also love the red, white, and blue quilts. They are all so pretty. But, first I have a e/w/b bullseye quilt to make.

Love all the red, white, blue quilts! Really like the button one with a tree branch hanger. How unique.

Is the hanging with the heart one of your patterns ? I am looking for something manageable for my children for our country’s 250 birthday. I have a history of vast ideas and half,-vast ability.

Ohhh! Thanks so much for sharing your x and plus quilt photos and for researching the pattern! I love it! The red, white and blue one is gorgeous and I have to move it up on my list with Rose’s 3” leader and ender block. I am so excited and looking forward to getting started! Hurry up knee and be healed, I want to sew! Hugs, everyone for your help!❤️

Pamela – Maybe you can cut some while sitting down? I could if I had to and we gotta get you ready to sew asap! I just made an X and + block in about 10 minutes – it goes together like a snap!

      1. Joy in NW Iowa

Hi! I sit by my ironing board to cut. I have a cutting mat the size of my ironing board and use my rotary. Works great! I can stand for short periods of time depending on the day, so then I cut up the bigger pieces. Works for me.

Yes, thanks for the tips! The therapist worked me harder today and I have been more sore. I want to stop taking the oxycodone and just have Tylenol for the pain. I’m going to try.
I think I will try getting the fabric chosen tomorrow and ironed. Maybe get some cutting done in intervals 😻. Would love to make a red, white and blue one ❤️. Thanks everyone for your help ❤️!

    2. Teresa from Port Coquitlam, BC

I can’t remember when you had your knee surgery but I could have cut some fabric like Mary said but 1 month after my surgery I started trying to sew-started at five minutes. It’s amazing what you can sew in 5 minutes. Did that for a bit, then went to sewing for 10 minutes.

      1. Mary Etherington Post author

Teresa – yup, that’s pretty much what I did starting with cutting for short periods at a time.

  13. Sue

I love all the red, white & blue quilts. I try to incorporate a flag into every season at my house. My daughters call me a ‘flag freak’. Thanks for sharing your photos. You inspire me.
