Raining, 11-17-25

Several hours of light rain – so good for the grass!!

I got no news but a few pictures.

Love it!
Joy said this border was paper pieced! Yikes!
TomTom helps like all cats in the sewing room
Can you see Millie?

Here’s my paper piecing – some are better than others for sure!

Doesn’t look like much yet, does it?

And look at the mess! I can’t wait to clean it all up tomorrow!

Having charging issues with my IPad again. I’ve tried everything and if I go back again, it will be the 5th time. Why won’t they believe me or why can’t they figure it out?

So I’m going to bed upset.

Seeing your paper-pieced flying geese reminded me of something I made years ago. It ended up being a bookmarker because I only made one strip of geese! If I run onto it, I’ll send a picture, but I can’t find it where I usually put it (sigh). I hope your iPad problems are solved soon. Having to turn it on and off three times to get it to work is not right, though, I don’t care what the Apple person says (it hasn’t always been that way, has it?) Cats must be closet quilters the way they investigate every new piece of fabric and try to nap on the quilt even while you are still working on it! Have you seen the ‘I don’t care club for farmers’ wives’? It is a hoot.

Sara – no, my IPad has never been this way. As soon as I’ve got some time, I’m taking it back …again. Show me the bookmark.

I saw an early special showing of I Can Only Imagine 2 last night. The movie will be out February 20, 2026. It’s a continuation of the lead singer of Mercy Me. Great Christian movie about gratitude.

Love your colors on the flying geese and stars. Can’t wait to see the finished quilt. I was also wondering if the cats knock over the plants trying to find their napping spots.

Charlotte – not one plant that I can remember in 40 years has ever been tipped over – I hope I haven’t jinxed myself now.

Mary, I had sounds like the same charging problem with an iPad! My son said mom did you vacuum the little plug connection port area, of course I hadn’t and I had given it to him already. Well he did, and he has the iPad charging with done of the problems I did! According to him the smallest bit of dust will / can cause a charging issue. Apparently, every time you plug in to charge – a little invisible to us dust gets pushed in and will build up and cause a problem. I know it sounds weird, but my unchargeable iPad is working / charging great for him.

Joy, your quilt with the paper pieced border is just lovely! It’s raining here today & a great day to do some sewing. Mary, love what you’ve finished so far on your quilt! It’s going to be lovely! Boots has a spa day so we will be taking him soon. He absolutely loves car rides & gets so excited! I got a call from the blind place that my 2 blinds that didn’t fit will be in by next week. Then I can finally put everything back where I had it! I have a bag of fabric to donate to the ladies who make quilts to donate. Also 2 bags to donate for pet beds. After organizing part of the garage I found a new small tabletop grill + the gas bottles to go with it. Dropped that off at a local mobile home park. I’m part of a food drive at our church & drop off a box of food each Sunday night for whoever needs it. I’ve been blessed, so I’m happy to buy extra to help feed the children. A friend who doesn’t go to my church gave me money to buy food yesterday to help. Love my dear friends!!

Alice, you’re giving off food and the grill to the mobile home park just touches my heart. I too work with our food pantries and just made a presentation to our church on one of food missions. People sometimes do not see the need till they hear stories from the recipients directly. Thank you for doing what’s right. We weren’t taught to ignore those less fortunate than ourselves.

Mary I love your flying geese paper pieced blocks. I know I’m going to love the finished project. Is the pattern from a book or a kit. Probably not a kit as I don’t hear you mention kits you’ve done. Love the colors. I need to do some paper piecing. I think I might be able to make with patience. I’ve done just Niemeyer patterns & they are fun if you have a good teacher.
Love the kitty in your plants. My cats 🥲 loved to nestle in on my quilts in progress.
No rain here in cottage grove. Glad you could use my forward of cat joke

Henners. -didn’t you just love the cat joke? I’ll show the project – it’s on the front of a 2020 Martingale calendar and I’ve been wanting to make it all these years … but it’s not for the faint of heart. Today I can replace some Star blocks that will be better and then ob to the next round! Raining here – a great day for sewing!

Thunder and lightning here last night! With flakes, sleet, and rain for a brief time. Crazy mix. Joy that border is beautiful. Mary the pieced border geese will be such an addition to your project. My phone is 5 yrs old and starting to act up….I feel your frustration. I enjoy every picture of the pets. Thank you

Oh my Mary! I’m loving the little paper pieced flying geese blocks and the stars beside them! Love the colors What is it? I don’t remember you talking about this one.

How old is your iPAD? I wonder if the battery is dying? I had an experience with my iPad a couple of years ago & by the time they sent it off for repair, replaced the battery, cracked the screen in the shipping process I would’ve been better off just buying a new one.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

LesaM – I took it to Batteries Plus who tested it and it was fine. Sometimes I have to shut it down completely and then turn it back on several times to get it to start charging. They also checked the port. Sold me a new plug which I don’t even think I needed

      1. Barbara Moore

Mary, that port has two pins that stick out and go into the charging plus. When I had issues w/my iPad, it was discovered that one of the pins had broken off, or was bent and on its way to dying. You might have them check the connection at those pins. Could be the problem🤷🏼‍♀️ – Barb in Tucson

        1. Mary Etherington Post author

Barbara – I can try that again but they said the port is fine. It’s now charging but I had to shut it down 3 times – sometimes it would open again on its own! I bought it in 2021 and I asked the guy and he said it’s fine and he’s known IPads 15-20 yrs old

Mary love your fabric choices on your quilt ,it looks like Japanese fabric we love. Like seeing your geranium blooming. How does Millie get in your plants without knocking over any lol.

Your quilt is looking great Mary!! Cute border on your quilt Joy. Millie fits right in amongst the plants.

Mary, I had charging issues with my last iPhone and it helped when I cleaned the charging port. I got a case that covers the port and keeps the dust and debris out when I got a new iPhone.
I also tried different charging cables. Frustrating I know.

That paper pieced border by Joy – WOW! And i can’t wait to see your quilt progress! Hunting for Millie …..

  14. Frances E

Loved all the pictures of the kitties. You’ve probably already tried this, but I’ll mention it anyway. I found that if I bought a new Apple plug-in cord for the iPad, the connection worked better. The cheaper generics just don’t seem to fit as tightly. Good luck. I’m sure this quilt will be as lovely as all the others.

The looney quilt is very pretty. Will it be hung in a lake home? I found Millie…but I had to search a bit.
