I wore a sweatshirt when I mowed and this morning our furnace actually came on. It was 51 degrees! I wait all year for summer and I’ve even had to close the door to the porch. Brrrr…… and Grrrrr!!

Remember all those triangle squares? I’m working on them but it’s tedious and I can’t wait to be done.

Molly visited yesterday.

My poor old beat up cart keeps chugging along.

One of my two remaining goats – the fattest one.
Reader quilts

Seen at the thrift store – what a great color palette

From Connie – the Iowa Great Lakes are expecting more rain this week!
Farmer Tim’s corn

I’m holding up a leaf and yes, it’s higher than my head! Keep in mind “knee high by the 4th of July”!!

This is how to read the blog so you can click on the ads for me.
No window open or fan for me tonight! Summer isn’t much fun if it doesn’t even reach 70 degrees.

I’m getting the comments now, so glad 😀
I’m also clicking on all the ads that will let me! I also watched Catlin Clark last night, just the first half, I’m assuming they lost but haven’t heard!!
Your half square triangles are so cheery and will be well worth the effort. Can’t wait to see it quilted. I bet your cat rescue guy would like to help you remove those barn window labels.🤭
Deb – they’re on the inside – he can’t pull his lift truck inside, can he? If they were on the outside they would have already fallen off in the last 27 years!
I always enjoy your posts! Must admit I’m envious of your cool weather & rain. We will hit 110 today and it’s going to be 110+ most every day through next Tuesday. Extremely low humidity, too, so the fire danger is extremely high. I’m so sorry about your animals – it’s so hard when it comes time to make that decision. They bring so much joy to our lives….
The comments are showing up now. Love your half squares quilt even if it’s tedious. I’m so sorry to hear about your goat Mary. It’s just sad losing our pets. Beautiful quilts today. I guess I am the only one who would have been covered in bug bites being in the corn. The corn is so tall. Parts of or basement flooded yesterday. We got 5” of rain in a couple of hours and the sump pump couldn’t keep up. It’s a huge mess but all salvageable. Two of our neighbors not so lucky. Their entire basements flooded. To top it off, our washer went out last night. When it rains it pours. We will still watch the Fever play tonight.
Great pictures of you, Mary in the corn field! Some corn here in Ohio is at least knee high, some much shorter. Depends when the farmers could get their fields planted due to the weather. I’m thinking farmer Tim’s corn is field corn not sweet corn, right? There is a difference! So sorry about Connie’s dock, & more rain is expected, wow!! Also if anyone needs the pattern info on the 3rd quilt shown here it is a Gathering Friends “Quilt Cravings” book. Fabric was Chocolate by 3 Sisters. The quilt top was made 15+ yrs ago. Let’s just say life happens & I’m trying to complete projects now!
Alice, thanks for sharing the pattern information. It’s a very striking quilt that would look great in a lot of color combinations.
Mary,
I love your triangle quilt top. And your goat looks so regal sitting there. Oh, my, the quilts today are all lovely! I love the one on the bicycle and the hourglass one too.
My visit to Indianapolis is going well. The dogs and I were outside most of the day working in my daughter’s flower gardens. I also burned up a big brush pile. Tomorrow looks to be too hot for much gardening so I’ll be sewing instead.
I’m sorry about your goat. Take care.
I am so sorry you lost one of your goats. 😢
When I showed Herb the picture of you in Farmer Tim’s corn, he thought you were on your knees.
I, too, love your hst project; it is beautiful!
Thanks, Mary 🥰
you have been busy. those triangles are tedious but they make such lovely patterns in the end. i have a love/hate relationship with them. i just drew out another design to use hst. must be nuts. thanks to all for sharing the quilts. the one looks like it was made from three sisters or maybe fresh general fabrics? love it. the bright ones make me smile. i love brights. but then, i love most colors, fabrics, etc. i’m glad you told us you were standing up in the corn field. i thought you were sitting down. that’s some tall corn. bet it will taste scrumptious. i would gladly send you some of our heat/humidity. was sad to see what has happened to connie’s dock. and the rain hasn’t stopped yet. i’m so sorry. i pulled fabric squares yesterday for a quilt. today i decided i needed to tighten the palette so ended up cutting bunches of more 3.5″ squares. i did get the heart pieced so it’s quardrant is done, those picture you showed did have a great color palette. i hope you get your summer back. thanks for hanging in there. patti in florida
I love your goat. She looks so comfy! Your HST quilt is coming along nicely. Keep at it. Farmer Tim’s cornfield is looking great. He should get a bumper crop this year! Connie’s dock – how terrible. I thought the water level would have gone down by now. The reader quilts look fabulous! So colorful. I finally get to sew today, as we are having carpets cleaned. I’ll keep out of the way. Stay cool (or warm) everyone!
Teresa – Rick thanks you for the card – he was surprised! Didn’t get to 70 today so porch is closed. Sigh
Sad about Connie’s dock and all the flooding there for everyone.
Love that Molly came to visit Keeper.
I love your quilt with the triangles.
Love all the reader’s quilts. Busy busy readers.
Our corn jumped to thigh high with Sun and rain, but not keeping Up with Farmer Tim’s.
So sorry about your goat.
I love you in the corn!! Very nice quilt pictures. Hugs,
I laughed at you in the corn field thinking you were kneeling. Then found out you were standing and really cracked up! That young man sure knows how to grow corn
Beautiful quilt show today, as always. What a talented group of people. Thanks for sharing everyone and thanks to Mary for facilitating it all.
Pat in icky, sticky Arizona
This is one of my favorites posts. I love the dogs, Hazel looking so clean and innocent, the lovely goat, readers’ quilts, your bright triangles, you and the corn. By the way, does anyone else remember the lyrics to “Oh What A Beautiful Morning” from the musical, Oklahoma, specifically “the corn is as high as an elephant’s eye”? That seems to fit your corn photos.
So sorry about Connie’s flooding troubles. Speaking of weather, I can’t imagine being cool in July. Here in Georgia I am staying in the AC as much as possible.
Thanks so much for all the work you put into your blog. I have clicked on the ads and will continue to do so in the future.
All your HSTs are lovely! So bright and cheerful. The picture of you standing in the corner field just makes me itch. I always hated to get out in the field and pull corn, because of the itchiness, but I loved to eat the corn, so…
July 1, 2024. Northwest Iowa is getting rain again! 😢
Our old golf cart plugs along too. Infact the campground is having a golf cart parade Saturday and residents enthusiastically asked how we were decorating ours for the parade. I said not, it would be the caboose as ours is so slow compared to some of these new souped up ones here. But we’ll get another one eventually cause hubby misses this one back at home too much.
We are cooler here too today but boy it feels good. Sun is shining.
Having grown up in Wisconsin, I am familiar with ‘knee high by the Fourth of July’.
We live in the desert southwest. We just set a record for the hottest June ever. A sweatshirt sounds nice to me. But I sympathize with you because of the cold winters you experience. Crazy weather all around!!
I know it is tedious, but those triangles are soooo beautiful! Keep stitching. 😀 Our corn here in Ohio is about thigh high in some places and ankle high in others. . The reader quilts are wonderful. I am binding two so will send soon. Are there Oh Susannah books left? I shared it with a friend and she wondered. Good luck to Connie and Roy with their dock. How is Rick doing? Stay cool everyone.
Forgot to mention I am loving your hst quilt, so colorful and bright ❤️
I would love to send you our heat! Highs in 90s but over 100 with the heat index 🥵. Summer is my least favorite!
My first cherry tomatoes have played out and replaced with volunteer ones. The Cherokee purples have blooms.
Was Mollie one of your dogs? Penny and Lucy say “hey”😻🥰
We could use some of the rain down here. And the cool weather. It barely goes down to the 80’s at night here. 84 RealFeel 103 at 9AM this morning. I will get out and work under the trees this morning and in the front flower beds after dinner when they are finally shaded by the house. I love seeing all of the photos, especially you in the corn field. The farmers planted cotton all around us this year. Tallest cotton I have ever seen, covered with unopened bolls. Should look like snow by sometime in August.
Paula – when it looks like snow, take a picture for me – send to my email.
Will do!
I also would love to see the cotton fields. What a sight it must be. All the quilts and pictures are so enjoyable to see. Thank you everyone for sending in pictures and thank you Mary for your hard work.
Love your goat 😍 so sorry to see Connie’s dock – and more rain to come! Our corn here in Ohio is nowhere near yours – it’s amazing.
I got your blog and all the photos, but not the comment section. I did get the Leave a Reply tab but nothing from the other readers. I think this will work itself out eventually, just like the summer weather. Sorry you are having so much rain. Our weather never seems to settle down until after the 4th of July. All the rain has probably made Tims’s corn grow faster. Sure is beautiful.
I sent you a couple of photos on my iPhone, but apparently, they didn’t make it to you. Dropped out somewhere in space or perhaps they never left my phone. LOL I will try again.
Connies boat dock looks so sad sloshing away in the waves. There must be so much damage on that lake.
Your goat made me laugh. I think you should send that photo to a magazine contest. It’s great!
Sue -I’ve submitted other photos to Our Iowa and unless I’m in the picture, too, they won’t be interested.
Sue – try sending the photos again – to maryehazel2020@gmail.com
I will. There are other magazines that have contests. Those country ones that don’t have ads might love that photo.
Hi! Clicked ads and came on to say how jealous I am of your cool temperatures! In south central Texas the heat is on! We’re looking at temperatures over 100 degrees this week! Ugh!
Jill – I’ll be wearing long pants and a sweatshirt today – it’s feast or famine, I guess.
Jill,
I’m about twenty minutes southwest of Houston, Texas. Just watched the news, and we did reach 100 today. Whoooo!
Thank you for the picture of Connies dock, goodness its not looking good. I also appreciate that you walked into the Tims corn field to show us the height of the corn. You are almost hidden by its height. I didn’t realize that you still had 2 goats on the farm, they are adorable even if they are fat. I managed to wash all the windows and we put up the blinds in our new house, just need the patio curtain to arrive. I hate getting all those stickers off the glass. I had my husband revamp a closet into a kitchen pantry with some wonderful adjustable shelves and now all our food staples are out of boxes and put away. I so appreciate him being a handy guy. Slowly but surely we will get settled and I can go set up my sewing room. The quilts today were lovely and all that lavender must smell marvelous.
Kim – last week was not a good week for me – I had three goats and now there’s just two left and I know I’m too old to get more. I had to euthanize the third goat, too. She was so lame she could no longer stand up easily or walk. Just a question – do you click on the ads for me? Soon you’ll be able to enjoy your house. Thinking about the stickers on the glass prompts me to take a new picture for the blog – you’ll understand when you see it.
i’m so sorry about having to euthanize one of your goats. as hard as it is for us humans, we have to remember it is the best for the animals. it is our gift to them even though we feel horrible. i truly am sorry. patti in florida
