A daily post might be too much for me to continue through the summer. Seems like I just came inside after a day of errands and yard work.
I drove Red to Clear Lake today – I actually picked up a few quarter yards of fabric to use with a favorite background. Now what shall I make?
When I got home both dogs jumped in as I unloaded my groceries. They know they don’t ride in Red with the top down!

I gotta remember to measure Tim’s corn tomorrow – it’s way over my head!

And around the farm today

………
It’s my first week working at the bicycle factory and they already made me a spokesperson.

I need to get out and take a recent picture of the corn around here too. I think the picture I took, with intentions to send to you, is about 2 weeks old now. The corn has really grown now but still not as tall as it should be this time of year. Rough Spring! Love all the kitty photos. Wish I was that photogenic! Lol!
Mary, if some of us can be MIA for months (me, I’m having an icky, pooey, caa caa year!), you can surely take a few days off each week. Be assured we’ll still be here. I personally appreciate all of your posts and the comments from everyone. I’ve been catching up on posts and finally got to today! Yay me! Happy birthday to you, Mary! So sad about Patty, what a treasure lost. Hope someone can track down Jamie, I’ve tried a few times but understand given what you discovered. Beautiful quilts and other crafts shared lately. Thanks all for sharing and Mary for posting. Animals and flowers: can’t get enough! All to say, Mary you do what you need for you; we’ll be here.
Mary, I love all the pics you and the others have shared. The needlepoint flag is spectacular. Those baby deer are too sweet. We used to have alot of deer in WV. The wheat and grasses were so high in the field next door, we could see it rustling and then the doe and fawns would pop out into our yard.
I love the white featherweight and the kitties taking over your project. So sweet! Have a relaxing evening watching the Fever. They are ahead right now!
So much to do, so little time, like others have said, write when you have time, we all know you have plenty to do in a day. Love all the kitties today and really like the flag cross-stitch, anybody know the pattern? Pat in Iowa City
Take your time away, Mary. 🙂
Dogs in the car: Keeper’s ears down flat elicited a laugh as well as his smiling face. (I know I’m not supposed to be here, but it’s just for a few minutes.) Those two keep you, and us, entertained. Lovely photos as usual. I’ve got a bee in my bonnet to use up my patriotic scraps the last few days, so have been making many little projects. At least my home will be very festive for the 250th celebration in 2026.
The fire on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon – such a loss.

Dear Mary, you deserve a break today. My brother-in-law used to say that all the time!
I love your farm.
I agree with others that I would miss your daily blog but, a break in the summer is well deserved.
Thanks for all you do.
As much as I look forward to your blog, I fully support spacing it out!
How did you manage a photo of the swallows!? The nest in the peak of my house has VERY alert, protective birds! Seriously! I’ve been missed by mere inches! I’m happy they seem to be raising 2 youngsters.
Pets, flowers, porch…all enjoyable but by all means, take a planned time off!
I would miss your blog every day too but thoroughly understand. It’s ok to miss a day or two as long as we know that’s what’s up.
Had my first fresh ear of sweet corn last evening! yummy!
Cats and quilting go together! Love it!
I totally understand that you need a break from technology. That’s why we sew, to slow down. So sorry for fires at the Grand Canyon. Had my honeymoon there. Love your red car. I have an old car (Ford Taurus 2007) I don’t drive as much anymore so I can’t justify a new car. Now don’t laugh, I’m making adult bibs. My hubby and I are getting to be messy eaters ha. Too hot here to do anything so enjoy your day.
Deb – laugh? Not me! I could use one! Oh, that beautiful old lodge – gone. So sad!
Thoroughly enjoy your blog but can understand that you need some “down” time also. Take it and don’t look back. We will all survive. Love seeing all the pictures and reading the comments. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Hi Mary, I like Candy’s idea that you could let us know you will only post 2 or 3 days a week and then none of us will worry about you. In your post “rain and more rain” I answered the question regarding an offer with “subjects”.
My mom is able to start hydrangeas by taking a few cuttings then removing most the leaves and putting the stem in water. Sometimes takes more than a month but roots develop and then she puts them in dirt. I’m trying it right now and am hopeful it will work. I will take a picture of some of my hydrangeas and send them to you. I just love them and I have intentionally planted some in pots so we can take them with us when we move.
Ha! I had to go back and look for Keeper in Red. Didn’t notice him in the driver’s seat. Just saw Hazel sneaking a squat in the front seat. Those two rascals! I agree with Bonnie! I love your view of the world that you share with us. You do you. We can miss a day or two. And miss it we will. But we will be ok.
I enjoyed all the pics of the cats ,THANKS, MARY!
Like so many others, I really enjoy your blog, the pictures, the critters. Your homestead is so pretty. Now I’m getting a great chuckle/groan to start my day. Did you know it is good – emotionally, mentally and physically – to be “electronic-free” at least one day of the week? No TV, no computer, no using the phone unless someone calls you. (Just like it was when I was a kid). I did it for 4 months last year and it really was a great day. Then for some reason I stopped and I just haven’t gotten back to it; I am planning on doing it again starting August 1st. Ah, a day of no news, no trauma, no drama. A sewing machine doesn’t count. Pick a day that the Fever don’t play!! Doesn’t have to be the same day each week. You could just tell us when “tomorrow I’m off the grid”. Hey, we could all join you!
Love Linda’s idea !! You could do 1 posting a week … “My off the grid day “ and you could tell us what you did that day. We could all also have a “off the grid day “ and write about what we did as well .
Loved all the cat pictures! The cross stitched flag is so neat! Hydrangeas are not my strong point. I am trying to keep a small one that is a house plant alive as it belongs to my almost 102 mother in law. It was beautiful when she received it, blue. I’m not doing so good. With it being summer and all the things, work especially, I don’t know how you find time to write the blog. We enjoy it tremendously, but if you cut back, we will understand. It has to be a lot of work keeping up with all you do!
What are those lovely birds and how did they make that nest????
I look forward to your blog every morning. It comes to me during the night!! Please keep going.
I am 81 and I used to work on my farm like you are doing. It is gradually getting to be too much.
I enjoy what you do and reading your blog!!
Look up “Barn Swallows” they are great birds to zip around in the sky. They bring the mud to the walls and stick it up to make their nests.
If you don’t want to post every day, we will survive. We’ll miss you, but we will make it. We don’t know how you do it anyway. We would all have given out much earlier. We love the sweet animals, quilts, flowers, and the many old things you’ve saved or pointed out to us. Your blog is the first thing I read every day, but we understand that you need a break too.
Love your pictures today! Especially kitties…..I have a corn pic to send you.
Mary,
Love all the Kitty pictures today & the 2 baby deer….so sweet
Love the blog, I don’t know how you do all you do everyday! I agree that u should cut back on the blog especially in the summer when you are so busy!!
Enoy your day!
Sandy
What are the pink flowers along the fence? I bought some petunias from the greenhouse and apparently there were seeds that were dropped into a pot. I have big leaves like the ones on your fence growing in the pot.
Like you, I am lucky to live on a farm in the countryside – so peaceful and quiet. I truly enjoy all your photos of the animals and plants. This is the best time of the year for the flower and vegetable gardens – everything is so lush and green. I marvel at your energy level – you accomplish so much each day. Thank you for sharing your world with us!
Mary, your blog today was super of your yard, the domestic animals, and then to top it all, a doe and her little fawns. You outdid yourself with photos. Don’t ever feel bad when you miss a day or two, or three in sending the blog. You certainly deserve time off to do something fun for yourself. It must be such fun to sew on the porch and enjoy looking at the nicely mowed yard and gorgeous flowers, knowing that it was through your hard work that it was accomplished.
Did you hang geraniums along your railing again this year? They looked so pretty there last year. We planted them in the ground in front of the front porch this year, but the mums have grown so big that they are getting crowded out. The mums are already blooming. I thought they shouldn’t bloom til late Aug. or Sept. Should we have pinched the buds off of them earlier? We were afraid they might not set buds again if we did.

Mary, do you think if you let everyone know that you’ll only be posting on certain days during the summer (maybe once or twice a week), everyone won’t panic because you’ve ’disappeared’. You deserve to relax when you come in from working. IMHO, of course! Enjoy your summer!
I agree … a summer break is well deserved & probably very much needed. 🩷
You have such a rich, full life! What delight you must find in all the critters, both domestic and wild. Life sure is good!
Hi Mary, everything looks so peaceful down on the farm!
You have been amazing sending your daily thoughts out to the world. I know there was a time when I was caring for my Mother for many years, your emails used to lift my day.
However, no apologies needed if your letters are less frequent. It’s good to know you are having a busy time, enjoying your days, doing what you want while health prevails. Make the most of it. No guilty thoughts please.
The dogs sitting in Red are so cute! Great pictures today. Our trash company is having a solidarity strike with workers in Stockton. It’s so crazy. Finally picked up my trash can today…..6 days late. Haven’t picked up recycling or green cans. Hope it’s over soon.
Forgot to say I love your jokes at the end.
Did I miss something? You have a job at a bicycle shop? Do tell.
All those eyes looking at us. How sweet.
Everyone deserves a break, posting everyday I’m sure can be overwhelming on occasion. If you need a break…take a break.
Beautiful little featherweight and I love your Bernina – I have the same one!
Weather here in Flagstaff has been high 80s – did you see the Grand Canyon north rim lodge burned down? I’m so sad. My husband and I enjoyed our stays in the cabins, which are gone too. We can smell the smoke from here.
Hope everyone’s doing ok!
