Today is Becky’s birthday, 8-10-21

Becky is playing golf this morning on her birthday and then she and Jenny are coming here later – Jenny’s home from Louisville for a visit. So of course that means Heath Bar cake! Not only one cake, I baked two because tomorrow I’m having company.

I’ve had a busy morning – while baking and frosting cakes, I’ve been prepping for a colonoscopy today at 1:00. Haha!! Now I’m just waiting to leave.

A vent here about my grocery store – I needed 8 Heath bar candy bars and they only had 4. BUT when I looked for chicken broth, I counted 31 rows! That’s right, 31 separate rows of every kind of chicken broth imaginable. And several rows of each. And of course there wasn’t any chocolate chip ice cream – there rarely is and I don’t look for it too often. Disappointing for sure.

Here’s a little Sunday afternoon improv work just for fun.

And here’s the latest pattern to be added to the online store – Hayseed! This is going to be next on my list – in blue!

I love this cartoon, don’t you?

You will feel so noble after that colonoscopy is over! And, they have gotten so much better about the whole prep and procedure! Great sleep afterward, too. 🙂 And, Heath bar cake leftovers to eat afterward? Life IS good.

    The cartoon is great.
You can vent all you want to us, we have big shoulders. It feels good just pointing out observations that are an issue. I know exactly what your saying.
I’m told your in lala land during a colonoscopy. That helps, I’m sure….I agree with Tanya, a treat afterwards is rewarding.

I see you cut the Tilda quilt up. Much better design. I think your hollyhock pattern would look good using that as the background. Jewel tone appliqué.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BECKY! your a great sister.
I started at the phone company 51 years ago today. That’s more than a half century! There are people in the workforce who have never heard of a “collect call”. Geez

Ah yes, Betty. Our little town didn’t get dial phones until 1963 so we had operators. One day my Dad looked out his office window to see smoke coming from near our house–we lived just a block from “downtown” so he asked the operator if his kids had caught our house on fire. Nope, it was the neighbor kids who caught their garage on fire. Funny story.

Those little towns. If something happened, you mother knew about it before you got home.

Jo in Wyoming – I had even forgotten about collect calls! The little improv piece was made from the tiny Tilda scraps – the big quilt is still here and I’m still “thinking” what to do with it. Connie is using her Tilda fabric in one of the quilts in the new book – it will be lovely!

Happy Birthday to Becky! I’m sure you guys will have a great visit especially with Jenny being home too. The cakes look delicious! I believe it about the grocery store. Always a couple of things on my list we cannot find, like pickle slices. I just want them pre-sliced! Always out, and we shop at 3 stores. Peppermint Creamer is usually bare off the shelves. Right now they are missing a dry salsa mix to I can use my own tomatoes to make it. I can imagine one store being out, but 3? Anyway, hope it’s not too hot there, I’m hunkering down in this heat.

Moe Baly – I can tell you’re enjoying retirement! I still appreciate it every day myself

Mary, I forgot to say, good luck with the colonoscopy, and bravo to you for having that very important test done. Thinking of you.

Mary, Next time look in the baking aisle for Heath English Toffee bits. You can get just the bits of brickle or chocolate covered brickle bits all crushed and ready to add. I have several good recipes that use these.

Could you please print out the Heath bar cake recipe. Looks delicious. Thanks. So enjoy reading your blog everyday.

Hi Mary. I hope your colonoscopy went well. It’s the prep not the procedure that’s no fun. But, your cakes will be yummy after it’s over:)
I love the picture of Squeak or Millie in the man’s walker:) Very cute.
I have trouble finding Duncan Hines cake mixes in our groceries. We haven’t had marble cake mixes for years. My sister in Western NY is having trouble finding Heinz ketchup. Weird isn’t it?
    Enjoy Becky’s birthday party:)

Diane and Squeak – and I only want Duncan Hines! What’s with the grocery stores? Don’t they want to carry what their customers are wanting?

      1. Diane and Squeak

Good question. I found lots of Duncan Hines in Giant Eagle today, but much more expensive. 95* predicted for tomorrow here in Central Ohio. Our grandson has a soccer game and out grand daughter has a golf match. Hot for both!!

Good post today! The cakes look good. I really like the Hayseed quilt; it’s a simple design, but so nice. The cartoon is cute and not so far off. We knew someone that used one of the animal strollers and gave the dog many rides. It was really for the purpose of the person substituting the stroller for a walker.

That cartoon is really wonderful! Love it! I hear you about finding what you want in the store – so often just what I am wanting or needing is not available. Makes trying to make something challenging! Love your project, really neat!

Praying your colonoscopy went well. I hated the prep before. Hope you were able to visit and enjoy that delicious looking cake.
