Good thing I finished mowing early because then it rained off and on all afternoon so I enjoyed the porch with the rain gently falling – heavenly.

Jo has been blessed by your cards! Look at all of them! A big thank you to those who sent cards and shame on the rest of you who didn’t.
I’m working on cleaning up the houseplants before they bring bugs with them into the house.

Anybody else watching The Fever game and wanting to cry over a lost season?

Just think about that

Mary I mailed the card off to Beryl today. And it made my heart happy too. It was well worth the postage to the USA. As someone else said we think nothing of spending two dollars here, two dollars there. I hope she gets lots of cards. Mine will probably take two weeks to get there it seems like it alway takes that long.
Teresa – seems like a long time from Canada to US, doesn’t it? Thanks for sending it.
Isn’t it amazing what good old soap and water can do?? There are a lot of us who have problems throwing plant clippings into the garbage. And then there are the new ones from Walmart……….. I used to have more indoor plants, but the windows in this house aren’t really built for plants. My living room picture window is on the north and that is where the Christmas cactus lives. It’s as big as the round table now.
The trees are turning already. I’m sure if I went to the south side of town, their trees would be way ahead of ours. Amazing how a bit of altitude can make a difference. Fall is here.
Take care. Betty in Rapid City
I am glad you had a chance to enjoy your porch; it is a lovely area. Our rain today consisted of about 20 drops.
It is amazing the many uses for Dawn. You do have a big job ahead of you.
The blue checkered quilt is wonderful.
Thanks, Mary 🥰
My babysitting Mac has ended. He went home and it’s really quiet! And uneventful here. He is such a good dog and I will volunteer to have him anytime! But, do I want a dog full time of my own…no. I’ll visit my friend and visit Mac.
So, it was catch-up time today. Not quite finished, guess I’ll finish tomorrow. 🤣
I saw the game-sad and disappointing. I’m assuming Caitlyn won’t play until next season and on top of that, they have 3 other players that are unable to play.
There are a few players who stand out and work hard but you can’t win without all of them doing their part.
My husband had cataract surgery a few years ago -both eyes, 6 weeks apart. He sailed through the first and had blurred vision for several weeks after the second but it did clear up. Scary about the facial numbness.
Cindy – I could hardly watch – it’s no fun at all when C isn’t playing. I hope this injury isn’t career ending. And there’s only 2 games left – why would she bother?
Greetings to Hank!
Jo,
The cataract surgery sounds scary. This is something I haven’t heard about before. Keep us posted on recovery. Good vibes are being sent your way.
Cynthia, your gladiolus are beautiful! I plant bulbs every year because they remind me of my grandmother. She had a lot of gladioli at the end of her garden and loved adding new colors. I think she ordered from the Earl May seed catalog. It is August’s birthday flower so I used to take mom a bouquet on my birthday. She said the same thing every year…they reminded her of my grandmother and “it’s not my birthday.” and I said “happy birthday to me!” I just realized I haven’t brought any in the house the past 2 summers, I guess because it is bittersweet.
Sheryl – you bring up a point that I’ve always thought about – giving the mom a card on the child’s birthday! After all she did all the hard work. Just another reason to send a card!
The card industry should make cards that say “to mom on my birthday.”
Sheryl – yes, they really should. I’ve sent some “thinking of you” cards to moms
Thank you, Sheryl! I thought I’d give them a try this year, got them at Menards! I never realized they are the flower for August, so that must be why my wonderful Aunt Florence McHugh loved them so…her birthday was August 24th. Many wonderful birthday celebrations for her. She lived to be 103 years young. It was a very brisk day here today. Long sleeves and long pants! What a change in temperature from yesterday to today!
Sad for the Fever. Poor Caitlin.
Sorry to hear about problems with cataract surgery. That’s on my list for some day. My eye has to be stabilized from the wet macular first. I’ve shown some improvement.
The gladiolus is beautiful.
I didn’t know about Dawn and house plants. Thanks for the tip! You’ll be happy when that job is done.
I’m glad Jo enjoyed her cards. I have less variety since I’ve not been driving, but I still send one.
Carolyn – it doesn’t matter if the card is spectacular – it’s the thought behind the card that counts. KINDNESS MATTERS!
Recently I had a friend give me a huge stack of cards. She doesn’t send cards anymore. I was delighted to get these as I do send cards & I see my card I sent to Jo. I think some people don’t have cards on hand. I’ve always gone to Dollar Tree & bought 5-6 just to have on hand when I need them. My friend didn’t realize what a gift she gave me. We just returned from Parris Island, SC for the Marine celebration. Ron was honored by the Brigadier General & given a Marine coin. I was able to present the red, white, & blue quilt to our friend. He & his wife were thrilled to get the quilt & everyone in the hotel knew he got a QOV quilt! I’ll send pictures. Boots enjoyed staying with my friend & playing with her dog while we were gone. He’s been especially cuddly since, doesn’t leave my side. Such a sweet boy
Alice – what a wonderful gift of a patriotic quilt! The Marine coin must be a big deal – I’ve never heard of it and don’t know what it represents. And Boots got a play/vacation! But doesn’t it feel great to get back home?
Our friends have been so good to us & loved Ron’s QOV quilt. So I decided to make one for James. From what I understand to get a coin from the Brigadier General is a huge honor! I’m not familiar with how things work with the Marines. My son was in the National Guards. Yes, Boots had a wonderful time while we were gone & my friend & I have decided these two dogs need to have regular playdates! Yes, so glad to be back home! I bought Boots a squishy new ball that he absolutely loves, found it at Menard’s.
We spent the Labor Day pressure washing our daughter home, cleaning her gutters and washing the windows. Then on Tuesday we did the same to our house, but without the help of our daughter who is back to work. It took us longer, but it’s finished for another year, and I love the crisp look of it when done. We still need to do our sons home, and we hope he can give us some help but if not, we will tackle it alone. Our kids both travel for work, him more than her (at least 50% gone). Both of them have brand new yards and all that dirt made for lots of dust on the houses. I recall my mom washing her plants with dawn and water and it really did the trick for getting rid of bugs. I like the idea of doing it in a big pot. I only have 2 house plants, and they barely stay alive, I envy you your green thumb with all those lovelies. I have the big quilt show in Madison this week and I love seeing all those vendors and the amazing quilts.
Looking forward to the show also. We go on Friday. Hopefully we will get to check out the new shop in Madison….Sew Much More.!
Karen – a new quilt shop? You’re so lucky!
Kim – you really do help your kids a lot and that’s admirable and I’ll bet they really appreciate it. I don’t think I’ll be able to get the house washed before Friday when my window washers are coming. Dang. I think I’ll nominate you and your husband for being the hardest workers this week!
Lol, we are so blessed that they chose to live by us. I must admit that our hands are somewhat sore after a day of using the pressure washer but out homes look so nice and all that dirt washed away. It going to rain on Friday so I get a break from doing the window, I think I will get a wide backing done and ready to leave at the long armers. I hope the window washers do a good job for you.
Yes we watched the Fever lose another game tonight. They just do not have the mojo that Caitlin brought to the game. She always seemed to fire them up when they needed it. When, oh when, is she coming back? I see they dropped way down in the ratings again.
Mary, you have a BIG job ahead of you in cleaning and disinfecting all those plants. I don’t know how you do it all. I think it’s a big chore just keeping our outdoor hanging plants and 8 indoor plants happy. Outdoor ones are a daily chore since the Co. air is so dry. Our geraniums this year did very well though and added a bright touch along the area along the front porch. Much like yours along your railing, only ours are in the ground.
Excitement this week was having a bear visiting the back deck on the house across the steeet from us. And then later last evening he was just around the corner from us walking slowly across the street. The Neighbors had a video of him/her moseying across the deck. There was no damage done and nobody’s garbage cans were invaded. Last year at this time it was a mountain lion in the neighborhood. What next?
Jeanne in Co.
Jeanne – I would hope at this point she won’t come back till next season – or she would have been back by now. This could be a career ending injury, I’m afraid. It’s just no fun without her. I’m going to share with you what my mom always told me – “if you’re going to make so much work for yourself, don’t expect anyone to help you with it” because I wanted to “do things” even as a kid. The question was always “what can I do” and if I said it too many times she’d find some work for me to do – stuff that wasn’t fun!
Simple post today, but welcome just the same. Thanks as always.
You have a lot of plants to treat for their winter home.
A little update from my neck of the woods. Loretta is still wearing a t-shirt. Just when I think it’s healed, she licks until it’s all upset again.
I had cataract surgery last month. The first one went fine and I see distance sharp and clear. The second one…not so easy. The doctor prescribed additional drops and follow up appointments. It’s better, but still blurry, foggy, and shaky. She said it’s swollen but should get better. I hope so.
My friend had hers done too. Her first was fine…the second gave her trouble as well . The side of her face is numb!!! She gets to go see a plastic surgeon. Wow, we certainly didn’t expect this.
