A friend from church visited me this morning and brought along her latest quilt which I loved! Liz did a really nice job.

Here are the two quilts I took to the care center for this season.

Saw these tomato pillows at Target today – only $5 but I resisted.

After the pumpkin vines cover the soil, the weeds will be smothered. Until then I won’t be mulching with anything. Here are the three gardens.

Rose’s quilt – love it! Your garden?! I can almost keep up with a few pots- amazing
Rose and Liz both have beautiful quilts. What do you do with all the pumpkins you grow? Where my son’s horse is, they have a wagon they stack them up on and sell them. If they have a really good crop the owner invites her granddaughters class to come and pick one each which is so sweet. Some years are better than others.
We are in for about a week if rain so if it lets up I will plant some veggies. Unless we put an offer on some acreage that we are seeing on Saturday. Then I won’t bother. We shall see.
Teresa – the pumpkins I planted this year are all decorative and not really that many – I gave them lots of room for the vines to trail. One year I grew a heaping hay rack full and took it to the church parking lot. The congregation gave a donation to the youth group for the ones they picked. The ones that were left I fed to the goats and chickens.
The congregation must have been thrilled to pick a pumpkin and give to a great cause. I’m sure the goats and chickens love the pumpkin. I know after Halloween we would give our chickens pumpkin and they were so happy to eat it.
Love the quilts! They are beautiful!
We did get some rain but then the wind…it is just so awful! And tomorrow another day of it!
Liz did a wonderful job on her quilt. It looks wonderful!
No rain down here in the Oskaloosa area. Our crops and gardens really need some. I have watered some, but can’t do all of the garden. I am watering the tomatoes. These 80+ degree days have been hard on it. Very windy here today too. Seems more like summer than spring!
Take care, everyone.
Wonderful quilts today. The grass is so green after your rain. That black dirt. Anything will grow in that.
We got a little bit of rain yesterday. Today, 40 mph wind to blow all the moisture away!!! Dry as a desert.
My kids are buying their first house. It’s very exciting. They can have a dog again and I’d love to have a Golden Retriever grand baby. They had a German Shepherd for over 17+1/2 years, so I suspect it might be another GS.
I had no idea your planting areas were that BIG, when we visited your quilt store years back, I didn’t recall seeing your planting areas, I was to excited about the barn and the QUILT store..
We’re getting very HOT in AZ. Sadly🥲 we have a terrible fire in the White mountains ,Greer area, praying it gets contained🙏🏼
Katie – the gardens are way southwest of the barn – near the hayground.
Lucky for Liz that she could pop over and show you her quilt. It’s very pretty and love her fabrics. Both quilts shown are very nice. We’d all love porch time with you Mary so Hanks mom and Liz are very fortunate. The blog keeps us connected but nothing like a real belly laugh over something that happened. And I can’t believe you resisted getting the tomato pillow at Target. They are so darn cute.
I have both the Shasta and tulip patterns and say every year they would make wonderful front door wall hangings to see from the road so some year I need to sew them up. Back to the outside work while weather is decent.
Kathy,
You are accurate. Mary’s porch is fabulous and I enjoy it each warm day that I am there.
No quilt news here but I held a 6 week old golden retriever puppy this morning. Oh my heart. She was adorable. I know Hank would love a playmate, but afraid my husband would say “NO”. Golden puppies are just the sweetest thing on this earth.
Hanks mom – what? Whose puppy???
I love the quilts you put up at the nursing home. I’m sure the residents will really enjoy them!
Missed the flower moon, we were in the middle of a week of rain! When it’s 95 degrees, this summer, we won’t get a drop.
Whenever I see what Mary has accomplished in a day, I get tired. You’re amazing. My plants have been planted but now I see I need to fill in but it’s supposed to rain today so we’ll see. Northern Minnesota is praying for rain as we have three huge forest fires (started by careless, dumb people). As of last night, 35,000 acres have burned which can’t be contained because it is remote and huge.
Have a good day everyone.
Janet – I looked at the weather map – I hope there’s a good chance of rain in Northern MN. We asked Eric about them – he lives in Greenbush – thankfully they’re not close to him. Sad.
You have been busy.
Oh my! I had no idea your gardens were that big let alone three of them. I get stiff and sore just looking at them.😬
Great quilts, Rose, your colors are so stunning and awesome. Any tips? Was this a wedge template?
The tomato pillows are so cute ☺️!
Mary, you got a lot planted 😻!
Oh, my, I would have to buy some of those tomato cushions … just because! Not that I need any more stuff, but they’re so cute.
Candy – oh, I wanted to buy several but then I realized how much stuff I have to get rid of.
Loved the tulip and daisy quilt you took to the care home. They really brighten up the walls.
It was a beautiful evening here. We met two couples for dinner at a fun bar/grill and were fortunate to find a table on the shady, breezy patio.
Thanks So Much, Mary🥰
Hi Mary, how lovely to hang those quilts every year. I’m sure the residents love them. It’s too hot where I live to have distinctive seasons, always think your fall season must be nice to see.
Seems like you are in for lots of pumpkin soup in a few months time, enjoy
Oh, the black Iowa dirt. It is so good for growing things.
Tomorrow should be interesting. The forecast is for 60 MPH wind – or maybe 70…….I’m staying inside! Maybe rain. The weatherman said if we get 5 1/2″ rain in the next 2 months, the drought will be over……..
Guess that is a definite maybe. We won’t hold our breath, but it could happen. Hearing the weather reports all over the country really make me happy to be here.
The quilters are getting ready for the June quilt show. It never disappoints. A sign is in my front yard for all to see. One of the special displays will be on paper piecing and I have 2 small quilts – the size of placemats — entered. The display is to get people interested in how to paper piece. It really makes some blocks so easy to piece, example New York Beauty.
Take care. Hope everybody had a happy Mother’s Day.

Hi Mary. It’s really nice of you to take seasonal wall hangings to the care home. I’m sure they’re really appreciated. What is the USA quilt shown in the first picture from yesterday’s post? Patriotic quilts are some of my favorite. I’m pulling fabrics to make the Flag House quilt. Our group is going on a short retreat next week and it will be fun to work on it then.
Tina – I’ll look tomorrow but I’m sure it’s VOTE –
