78!, 7-3-26

It’s been a great 78th birthday – I have gotten so many cards and greetings – thank you so much!

Kathy came for coffee early this morning bearing so many gifts! First she brought cinnamon rolls – eaten before a picture. Also these brownies cut out as goats and chickens.

With napkins

And then this shirt!

The perfect tshirt for me! I love it!

Here we were at supper tonight:

Me, Becky, our cousins Jill, Mary and Sherri

Why didn’t I take a picture of our beautiful food? Lynette always said “presentation is everything!” And The Boulevard really understands that.

I watched David Muir go up in the torch of the Statue of Liberty on tv when I got home and remembered when Connie and I were there in the early 90s. We took the ferry over to Ellis Island in early May and I don’t think I’ve been that cold since. Haha!

We got more rain this morning so I didn’t get everything mowed like I wanted. Sticks had to be picked up first.

And then this happened.

Sigh

So tomorrow I’ll use a different mower and hope I can get it all finished and then get my favorite mower equipped with a new belt. Just one more thing.

Only one reader quilt to show you.

Happy 250th Fourth of July!

Love the new tee shirt! Looks like a great day!!

  2. Alice in SW Ohio

That T-shirt is perfect & love the brownies. So happy you had a wonderful Birthday & were able to spend it with family. Ron & I had a quiet 4th right here. I grilled cheddar Mets, had corn on the cob & macaroni salad. Ron had never had cheddar Mets before, so another first for him. Dessert was vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries. Hope everyone had a great 4th. We’re still recovering from this upper respiratory stuff.

That T-shirt is so you, Mary. I love it! I bought those same napkins plus some farm animal paper plates to use tonight, but daughter brought some 4th of July plates so we will use hers for this simple hot dog, beans, and potato salad dinner. Oh yeah…and an all American apple pie. The readers quilt is really, really cute.
Happy 4th everyone. I will be listening to the fireworks from my bed tonight. lol

So much fun to celebrate birthdays! The t-shirt is so fun.
The mower reminds me I will have to mow after vacation and we’ve had 5 1/2” of rain since we’ve been gone less than a week!

  7. Marty from Scottsdale

Happy birthday Mary! I just turned 78 on June 27. You have a lot more pep than I do! I’m so glad you are feeling well and that you can do all the things you want to do on the farm. Love the chicken shirt!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Marty – are you having health problems that have taken your pep away? It happens, I know. I feel soooo good right now that there isn’t much of anything I wouldn’t attempt here on the farm – which isn’t always good because I do get injured. Haha!!!

  8. Pat Smith

So glad you had a great birthday. Your group knows you so well that they got the gifts just right!

Will be 85 in Sept. and so very, very glad to be here for the 250th birthday of our country. God Bless America! You all look great and know you had a good time with your family. Carry on!!!

Happy Birthday, Mary! The brownies are adorable and, I’ll bet, they were delicious. Then dinner at a great restaurant with family – what could be better.
Fifty years ago my youngest daughter, Debbie, was born. When we left the hospital to go home, they gave us a special birth certificate. It was red, white, blue. It said that Debbie was a special bi-centennial baby born at Saginaw General Hospital on May 12th, 1976. I’ve kept it all these years.
Have a great day on our country’s special July 4th – 250 year birthday.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Dianne – how adorable! A BiCentennial baby!!! We are getting a downpour right now which is not ideal for the carnival and the campers!

  12. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Wow, what a wonderful birthday celebration with your sister and cousins!! The brownies are the cutest. Thank you for sharing your birthday with us.
Sorry the mower gave up. It’s always something.
My daughter and her husband surprised me by coming early Friday morning and clearing all the HUGE weeds and trees out of my gravel covered flowers bed around the edge of the house. In front I had a mulberry self seeding tree going almost to the gutter. I hate to tackle things outside when I’m overwhelmed inside, too. Anyways the two of them had it all cleared in 2 hours.
I want to start a slow stitching piece to take to the Fiber Art group at our library. Usually I’m knitting cotton dish cloths. It’s gotta be simple.
All quiet here on the Fourth of July.

  13. Becky

Happy to see and hear that you had a great birthday! I too watched David go up the Statue of Liberty – just wow! The last time I was in NYC I froze also — a friend and I went to celebrate Christmas. It was FREEZING!!! Although I will say it doesn’t take much for me being a Floridian! HA.

Happy 250th to all! Today will be the balance on when to medicate the dog…… last night at midnight I already had neighbors and their fireworks…. 🙁😩

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Lynette – some of my farm neighbors were shooting fireworks and Hazel was terrified of course X tonight will be the same. Poor Hazel!
