Stopped at a favorite thrift store today and had a great time shopping for these treasures—-all for only $8.00! This summer I am planning to sort my treasures and sell some of them that are either duplicates or not my all time favorites. How can I part with any of them?
I know what you mean about parting with treasures! When we moved from IL to AL last June, we also downsized, so we had to part with a lot of treasures. But I really am not complaining. For the 1st time we are living close to one of our daughters, and we are enjoying it thoroughly. I was interested in the black pottery in your picture. Back in 1965 we bought a small black pot that I believe was made by someone in the Zuni tribe for $5 (it is a signed piece, and a technique was used that is no longer used). A few years ago one of our daughters did some research on it and found that it is now worth almost $1,000. Needless to say, we didn’t part with it when moving:)
Nancy- I just loved your story of the Zuni pot! Have you considered going to Antique Road Show? That would be fun, wouldn’t it?
My new way of thinking is bring something new in, something must go out. Whether it be clothes or nic-nacs, it seems to be helping with the clutter.
Of course this does NOT apply to quilt fabric LOL!
You always find the best things at the best prices! There was an antique store here in Merced (California) that sold a lot of the finds from their yearly trip to Iowa. Must be something about your state!
great buys. lucky you .
I need to sort my treasures as well. It’s so hard to part with them!!! Perhaps I’ll just have to purchase some of yours!!!!
Yesterday, at a thrift shop up here in Cadillac, Michigan I found a nice dress for a wedding I’m going to in August for $8,00. Wasn’t really looking for that in particular, so when that happens – I call it “accidental shopping”! Another thrift shop near our cottage in Lake City, Michigan has a bag room — $2.00 for a bag (paper grocery bag) – but we usually go on Wed., which is half price day, so then we get a whole bag of stuff for just $1.00. We carefully fold any clothing we find, so we can fit as much as we can in it. Fun!!!
Treasures abound in my place as well, it all adds to that eclectic feel of my home. From Red Wing Crocks (the big ones), to Amish quilts and now Enamel ware.
Many years ago, our family stopped at a bar in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. It was packed full of antiques. The bartender told us that if we could each name something “old” from the store, we could get a free drink (soda pop). Even at age 7 (1959), I knew the buggy whip holder, the rug beater and ringer washing machine.
