A Busy Day, 7-24-24

Feeling stronger and better – called Mayo to see if they had reviewed my biopsy and no, they have not.

I’ve got some great photos tonight!

Meet Fig! Isn’t he something?

Oh, Sherry! This is so fun and so educational! The kids I visited today looked at your pictures and were fascinated as well. Thank you for this closeup view.

Gilbert, Emmet,Mom Ema, Izzy and Harriet

Meet my young friends from church – they also enjoyed the pictures of the chrysalis. Ema and I enjoyed an hour long conversation while the kids were in quiet time.

They gave me this lovely book – such wonderful artwork. I can’t wait to read it cover to cover.

Izzy

And I saw these two beautiful leaves and couldn’t resist taking a picture (this was before I even received the book!!!!).

And that’s a wrap from the blog about nothing!

So nice to read some better news that you are feeling better. Getting pain under control works wonders. We’ve been on the hunt for monarch eggs on our walks. So far no luck and it’s not for lack of milk weeds! Take care of yourself and don’t over do!

Thank u for sharing sewing rooms, I enjoy seeing other quilters work space, sometimes the projects too..
Sweet pics of pets, we currently r sitting a tabby cat for our granddaughter J , when she returns to school she will take him to her apartment, my husband has become very found of this cat..he happens to sleep next to my husbands pillow..
We have another cat FRED who is outside 99% of the time, comes in for a lil nap and treats, he belongs to our daughter in-law,…
It nice to see u smiling and feeling better, prayers your biopsy results come back with good news..

Thanks for sharing all of the photos Mary. Those kids are beautiful. It must be all of that good country air and fresh garden produce out in Iowa.

It’s cooler today (76 degrees right now) but exceedingly humid and rain is due in for the next few days. I sure hope that Farmer Tim is getting enough rain for his corn.

Only two things come to mind after looking at the lovely pictures. Fig looks like a playboy, and everything is bigger in Texas. (I’m jealous).

Glad to hear you are feeling better, Mary. Hope this continues.
Thank you, Sherry for posting the progress pictures of the caterpillar. It brings back wonderful memories of when I did a unit on Monarchs in my first grade classroom. The kids were always amazed especially if they were fortunate enough to witness it going into or coming out of the chrysalis. What an amazing God we have.

When you say Mayo hasn’t reviewed the biopsy, does that mean you know they did receive it? Sometimes it takes pathology a while to wade through samples. But if the biopsy is still “floating in limbo” between Mason City and Mayo, that is a different thing.

Love all the pictures. I admire the simplicity of the quilt made of squares. I have done something with smaller squares, but these larger squares look like they are a nice size. I remember when you, Mary, showed a fat quarter table topper you made and I thought then that was a nice way to add color to a room and easily get through some fabric.

    Hang in there.

My husband and I both enjoyed the “daterpillar” show. It was fascinating. So gland you are feeling better. Also, thank you for keeping up the blog about nothing while you are in the midst of this health issue. Janet

Glad you are feeling better, Mary, but I agree with another reader – can you call the hospital that did your biopsy and work from that end? Have them send it again? I thought to suggest having it done again but remembered that’s what started this whole bleeding episode. Good grief, what a pickle. I hope it’s resolved soon.
Great photos today, love the sewing room, all of the rooms have been so much fun to see, the lovely quilt with its young maker standing beside it, the Monarch series of photos! Rick on his neat lift! Keeper – so handsome and Fig, he looks like he (she?) could be trouble, haha!
We are enjoying cooler days this week. Humid, but cooler and I am so happy about that. Jan in MA

Loved seeing that sewing room, looks like that’s a fun room to be in for sure! Glad you are feeling a bit better! But horrified that the Mayo Clinic can’t do better to find your biopsy?? Shameful! I really love seeing all the caterpillar stages, can’t wait to see the butterfly it becomes! Thank You Sherry for sharing these photos and Thank You Mary for taking the time to share them with all of us! Love this blog about nothing!!!

So glad you are feeling better every day Mary but it is unbelievable that Mayo hasn’t reviewed your biopsy yet! And they are supposed to be one of the best hospitals in the country? The caterpillar pictures are amazing. Have really enjoyed seeing them grow. What an adorable family you had visiting. Fig is a cutie too!

I love following the butterfly. So much fun to see the progress.
The book reminds me of the books the character in Where the Crawdads Sings wrote. The cover is beautiful.
When I was a kid I would check the nature books out from the library and study them. I was always a reader and loved novels but those nature books were favorites too.

Susan K. – you’re right! The artwork does resemble that. I also think it reminds me of Marjolien Bastien, Hallmark artist’s work.

I’m glad to see you are progressing. It’s sad to hear you are on the treadmill in the Healthcare system. Never easy to wait. The pictures each day are wonderful to see, always exciting. The young family who visited, such a treat. You are loved and appreciated! I love the picture of the quilt with the young lady. Another quilter joining the ranks? Have a good day.

Your leaf picture is beautiful. I tried to download it and it was distorted I would love to have a print of it.

Susan, could you do a screen shot of the photo on your phone? Print it out from there? It is a great photo. Mary, you could make note cards from that! Along with so many more of your photos. Jan in MA

      1. Jan Hebert in MA

I should have said “with Mary’s permission” to print that photo! Sorry Mary. Jan in MA

Susan – I have no way to make a print for you and no time to take my phone to Walgreens. Download it if you wish.

  17. Diane O

I raised Monarchs several years and there is nothing so exciting as watching them go through the different cycles of life. It is truly something I will never forget!! Words can’t do it justice. Sherry is sharing great pictures of this process. Glad you are feeling well enough to be out and about.

  18. Sandy

Hi Mary, so much to see, love Keeper’s ears, and Fig! The caterpillar growth is educational, the quilt room spectacular (is everything big in texas? Haha!),and l love the quilt made from scraps. Patti and any other quilter on oxygen deserve a medal, for their strength of character. Have they lost your biopsy Mary, or just the results lost in the recent outage? We are all praying for a good outcome.

Loved seeing the sewing room from Texas. It proves that the more room we have, the more stuff we collect to fill it. I think we are all alike when it comes to our happy spaces. Have been watching the caterpillar develop into the chrysalis along with the others on the blog. It’s been very interesting. Since we have several kinds of butterfly weeds and bushes in our yard, I have been watching for the little white dot that might indicate an egg. No luck so far. We have a couple of yellow swallowtail butterflies that are in the flower beds every day. Do they also lay eggs on the leaves? Have been wanting to see a current picture of Handsome Hank. I bet he has grown a lot since we last saw him. He’s such an adorable puppy.
Had my third and last endoscopy procedure today that showed my bleeding ulcer has finally healed, except for a bit of inflammation that remains. So, a change in meds for the next four weeks and I should be back to normal again, whatever ‘normal’ is for my age. In the meantime, I’ve started PT in hopes to improve my walking so I can shed the walker. Too soon to tell if it’s going to help. So far all that’s happened is it has riled the bakers cyst behind my knee. Just another bump in the road.
Are you sure your biopsies ever left the hospital where they were done? I’m praying the hospital or Mayo can locate them soon. It has to be nerve wracking to have to wait this long.. Mary, you looked like you were having way too much fun on your new mower. Please don’t overdo. You red time to rest too.

Stronger and better sounds great. I can’t believe you were up for visiting. What a cute family. The book looks beautiful.
Fig is adorable. I miss my feline friends. We have a great community in town that is constantly catching ferals and getting them neutered and spayed and vaccinated. Those that they can are fostered and gradually are tried to get them comfortable with humans. The battle never ends. There are always more. How is that? We are in a small town of about 5500. It makes me crazy that people don’t take care of these animals.
Ah Rick on his favorite piece of equipment.
Well the Olympics start Friday. I’m psyched. Was shocked though at the level of security that has been implemented in France and all the venues to keep the athletes and others safe. To be so worried about terrorism is so discouraging. Such a world we live in. I’m just worried that I’ll be able to see all the events. Don’t want to miss anything.
The Monarch caterpillar series is so cool. Would love watching that metamorphosis.
So Mary, so frustrated for you and the slow slow process of moving medical tests forward. How many weeks has it been.? Unconscionable! Thanks for the pictures and updates.
Praying for you and some response from Mayo soon

mary, glad to hear you are feeling stronger. always good. was really nice that some church friends stopped by and gifted you with a great looking book.
today my schedule was really messed up. constant phone calls with son and his family problems. cat decided i should sit with him instead of sewing. so the day was pretty much upside down. then mr. ed was on his way home. i made baked potatoes and salads for supper. i did get all my prior blocks squared up, layed them out, stitched the rows together. figured out a border, pressed and cut. got one border sewn on before i had to throw in the towel. but it will wait til tomorrow. is turning into a nice toddler sized quilt.
still loving all the pictures, especially the caterpillar stages. most interesting. always learning something on the blog about nothing. hug to all, patti in florida

What an interesting post today. All the pictures are entertaining. The butterfly progression is especially interesting.

Did you hear about the big explosion in Yellowstone? Apparently it’s not unheard of. I missed the last one. I doubt it was as big as this one.
I sprayed the driveway weeds this morning. It’s so hot and dry, most of them are already cooked.

Next time you talk to Mayo, ask how long does results from this procedure take? Then let them know you have hundreds of blog readers following your medical issue. Mayo’s reputation is being shared with hundreds across the nation and a few countries.

Jo – you’re so sweet! I don’t think they care too much about the readers if the blog about nothing! I’m laughing!!

Mary, Praying you get some good news soon. Our health system is broken. Enjoyed all the pictures and especially the life of a butterfly. love the kids pictures. My sewing room consist of my dining room table. I did make a patriotic small wall hanging. We are in severe drought. It is tough taking care of my little garden when you are tethered to oxygen 24/7. Carolyn b Shenandoah Valley Va

    1. patti

carolyn, congrats to you on trying to take care of a garden while tethered to oxygen 24/7. i salute you. i’ve been tethered (i call it my leash) for 22 years. i don’t even try that type stuff any more. can’t do it. but i can sew because i can do it sitting down. i do most everything sitting down. will stand up some by not for long periods of time. i can give the tops, backs and binding to my charity group to finish. it allows me to use my creativity, do what i love, use up some of this gynormous stash and help others at the same time. hang in there and keep doing whatever you can do. gentle hugs, patti in florida
