A day even a bit better than yesterday – thanks to ibuprofen and my chiropractor! Now that the bleeding has stopped I can take ibuprofen again and Becky took me to Clear Lake to the chiropractor which fixed my back up. I don’t think I ever mentioned that in mid June or so I complained about this pain in my left side and he actually could feel a nodule there. It was a week or so after that when it got too bad to endure.

I felt so much better today that I went for a bit of therapy! Mowing!

Mowing lawn is therapy for me and it’s way overdue – big piles of grass shot out on the buildings and into the fence lines which I don’t like. I quit before I did too much and then Connie stopped by. Why oh why didn’t we take a selfie? She was picking up quilts to do a program at her guild in August. We did a “From the Beginning” program for the Ankeny guild many years ago of our first quilts, our successes and our failures and I kept that program together in a couple of tubs. It was pretty funny really.

Becky and Jenny did my chores so now I’m back to sitting in my chair. I actually feel like going to the sewing room tonight! Is that possible?????

London Blues by Wing and A Prayer

It’s a wedding gift for her son and daughter-in-law’s wedding which took place last weekend. It took her 2-3 hours a day for 10 days. It was meant to be a BOM but since Susan wanted to get all the cutting done prior to starting to piece she went through all the pattern and figured out the cutting. Now only experienced quilters like us would realize what a monumental task that would be. To sort out 12 monthly patterns to figure out the overall cutting recipe for her number of fabrics is a huge job! I just hope her daughter-in-law loves her quilt and if I ever hear she doesn’t I’ll be looking for her!

And has taught us so much about raising bluebirds – here’s her yard

Her latest fledglings have flown the coop but I have been so curious about the nests. Here’s one on the ground.

We’ve learned about raising both monarch butterflies and bluebirds. And I don’t know what’s happening but these photos keep rolling and changing so I hope you can figure them out.

What is wrong with my IPad????

Hi Mary! You look so happy on your mower with Keeper keeping an eye on you. So happy you felt up to some fresh air and mowing.
The wedding quilt is amazing! Such beautiful blues 💙! I just found out that my BFF’s daughter is expecting! I’ll need to get started on their quilt soon.
Monday I burnt my fingers really bad. I had just turned on the iron & poured in some water. The resoviour lid popped off. So you know I had to put it back on and grabbed the back of the iron. OUCH! Only a few blisters so far.
All the pics are terrific today. Quilts, sewing spaces, & Mary! It was a good day for sure! Stay safe everybody! 💗

Mary, the smiling picture of you on your new lawn mower is worth a thousand words.
Feeling better and happy to get out and mow.
The blue wedding quilt is beautiful.
All the sewing rooms are well loved. As the saying goes…”my heart beats happy when I’m in my sewing room”

It’s hot and very smoky here. The Thunderbirds just finished preforming. Normally I can watch most of the show from my house, but with all the smoke, I didn’t see as much.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jo – I am wearing 2 tshirts and a zip up sweatshirt – I’m almost ready to go out on socks!

  3. Susan K in Texas

Thanks for the nice comments on the London Blues quilt everyone! It was certainly made with love.
Mary it’s good to see you on your mower. My sister used to say mowing their 3 acres was therapy for her too.
The sewing room inspiration continues. It’s fun to see everyone’s rooms. I’ll send mine in today – it’s a mess but if it’s clean it means I’m not working in it.

  4. Teresa from Port Coquitlam, BC

What a beautiful wedding quilt. Mary, glad to hear you are feeling better but you still need real answers from your biopsy. Hoping that happens soon. Have a great day today.

  5. Ginger S

I am just so so happy that you are feeling better. So nice to see you on your lawn mower! And then a possible visit to the sewing room. Things are looking up Mary! Great pictures today. Loved the blue wedding quilt. I can only imagine the big job of cutting it out all at once and then making it in 10 days!!! Just WOW!

  6. NancyTD

Susan K. The wedding quilt is stunning. I too have cut out all the blocks of the month patterns at once. Makes sewing so easy.
I agree with Linda that you need to get aggressive with Mayo and get to the bottom of your pain.
Great that you are feeling better and are out mowing.
    I’m busy freezing green beans.
Thanks to all for sending your quilt room pictures.

  7. Joy in NW Iowa

So good to see you smile! Glad your pain is in control!
I love all the sewing room pictures. Some are a disaster in process like mine right now. Like a computer with too many windows open! 🥴
I hope everyone has a good day today! And Mary I hope you get aggressive with the medical field and find some answers! I wouldn’t say that if I didn’t care!
    Sure is smoky here!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Joy – I really feel comfortable calling the dept every day – I have gotten somewhat acquainted with the gal there and I have the pain under control finally so I can wait a bit. If the pains returns I will definitely be driving directly to Mayo however

  8. Linda in Central Iowa

Another solar flare is hitting Earth starting late yesterday the problem?
Part of that Windows update that is such a big issue?
    It is not us!
Love, love, love the blue wedding quilt! Always interesting to see others sewing rooms.
Hooray for lawn therapy – you look so happy on your new mower.

    1. Cindy Sabinske

Linda. No, nothing involving solar flares, a computer program problem that had a glitch. It affected many systems that are connected. Lesson to the programmers.

  9. carol l

Great photos, such clean sewing rooms. Glad to see you mowing. I agree that mowing is therapy, I solve lots of problems on them!!!! Rained here Saturday eve, 1 3/10ths, it got rid of a few grasshoppers. Wishing you a better day yet today. Take care. Carol in NE

  10. Donna Jo

Great news Mary! So glad you are feeling better. The picture of you on the lawnmower smiling is priceless. Hope you are in the sewing room today. Susan’s wedding quilt is just beautiful! The couple looks like they love it.

  11. Kim in N IL

Mary, so glad you’re feeling better. The blue wedding quilt is gorgeous! I’d love to hear Connie’s presentation and hope you had a nice visit.

  12. Linda C Schluchter

Mary, it is so great to see you smiling and sitting on your mower, able to be out and doing something you enjoy. But, that mass is still there and you need to address the problem immediately! I would be doing the crazy chicken dance driving all the doctors nuts because if something is there that shouldn’t be I want it gone now!! Please, go to the emergency at Mayo and tell them you are in pain and about the past biopsy and have them get started, it may have to be from the start again but at least that is getting things in motion. Please don’t delay any longer. You need answers and treatment and I know from experience you need to either have a very strong -pushy – advocate like I was with my husband or you have to be one for yourself. Don’t take no or I don’t know for an answer. They are supposed to be one of the best medical centers so make them prove it!! Love and prayers, Linda and Nelson and all the other critters

  13. Vicki Ibarra

Am glad to see you feeling better and able to do a “normal” relaxing thing for you. Now to see if you can focus on sewing. Sometimes focus is an issue after having a health bout like yours. Of course, if you can focus on mowing, you may do just great with sewing.

Friends from Clear Lake, Iowa are visiting us. We visited them in early July. It is nice to have that connection as well as the break from all the routine yard work. We will send onions home with them, as our garden has plenty. We have green tomatoes and are just biding our time until we can eat them fresh from the garden. They are late this year. Funny, with all the rain we have had. Or maybe that is the reason. Who knows?!

The only sewing I have done recently is some mending. My husband has a hard time giving up a few favorite t-shirts, among other things. He did break down and buy some new t-shirts. Yay! I did buy a new acrylic ruler – 15 inch x 15 inch – that I had wished I had about two months ago. They were on sale, so I swooped in and bought it. I have several smaller ones, but wanted one this size. Now wait – I won’t choose a quilt pattern that needs it for a while. Laugh.

Off to think about making breakfast for our group. Take care.

Traveling to Colorado tomorrow for our family reunion. Continue to feel better.

  17. Sue

Mary, I loved seeing your smiling face as you sit on your new mower. Susan your wedding quilt is amazing. I can appreciate all the work that went into that. Would love to hear Connie’s presentation. Just today I was going through copies of the “Goat Gazette “. That was a trip down memory lane. Mary you are such a creative writer. How did you ever have enough time to run a quilt shop? Hope you are feeling better every day.

  18. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

I love all the sewing rooms. What an amazing group of readers. The wedding quilt was outstanding. Love the colors. Great to see you on your mower. And yes, you should have taken a picture of Connie! Glad to see you are feeling better! And amazed you could locate just what Connie needed in your sewing room. Good luck and prayers for you.

  19. Fiona at Ice Bear Quilts

That is good news, Mary! Mowing is so satisfying isn’t it?
Susan K: that is an absolutely stunning quilt! What a superb wedding gift, an heirloom quilt stitched with love.

  20. Patricia

So good to see you smiling. And if you actually feel like doing something, that’s even better. Glad you have a sister nearby to help with house chores and chauffeur you to the chiropractor.
The blue quilt is gorgeous. I hope the couple knows it’s a treasure
I see you in a sweater and I’m wondering what your weather is like. Still hot and humid here in Md.
The sewing rooms are very interesting. Some so organized and some in the quilting creative process I’ll say.
Glad to see you and the quilting program Connie is presenting sounds like one I’d really enjoy.
    Continued prayers from Md.

Loved your new picture! You on the mower and Keeper watching over you. Let’s hope today is the beginning of a return to feeling well. I hope you and Connie had time for a visit and you got a few minutes of stitching in. Prayers continue for you, Rick, the chickens, and your care team. Kris

P.S. I forgot to say that I’m enjoying still enjoying the quilts, gardens, and sewing room pictures. Thanks to all who send in the pix. Kris

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Kris – I wouldn’t even bother leaving this comment but I honestly thought you’d all enjoy it.
Connie and I have never spent 15 minutes together “stitching” – haha!! Business partners for 40 years, and pretty successfully, but stitching together? Nope, never.

  22. Martha W in WY

Susan, your London Blues quilt is AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!!! Nothing like a little work, a friendly visit, a short relaxing rest, and therapy sewing to make a good day GRRR…ATE!!!! (as Tony the Tiger would say) LOL

    1. Martha W in WY

Oh, I need to add that it’s nice to see comments from people whose names I haven’t seen before. The blog is so much more fun to read when lots of people post comments either to Mary or other commenter’s posts. Keep the comments coming!!!

  24. Sharon F

Mary, I’m so glad you feeling like getting out and mowing. As others have said, though, please rest and don’t overdo it.
Susan K, the wedding quilt is stunning! Such beautiful work, what a blessing for the couple.
All the sewing room pictures are great; it’s so much fun to see the different ways we all set up and use and decorate our spaces.
Our guilt guild met tonight for our annual basketful raffle fundraiser and a potluck. After 3 years of buying bunches of raffle tickets, I finally won a basket. Yay!

      1. Kathy in western NY

Sharon, I hope it was fun stuff in your basket you won? The camp association on Lake Ontario where we now enjoying for the summer with our motor home is having a basket fundraiser this weekend. I made up a basket of coffee products.. pods, mug, gift card to Dunkin’ Donuts, coffee dish towel and a mug rug I made. The organizers said with the 50+ baskets donated of various themes make over $1500 for the association to buy playground equipment, sponsor dinners, etc. No surprise the baskets that bring the most dollars are those Buffalo Bills themed so maybe next year I should make a bills quilt for them.
I love basket raffle ideas and especially now being with people who can’t store a lot of things in their campers and travel to FL for winter.

Susan, your quilt is gorgeous and thanks for sharing it with us.

Hope today is a good day for you Mary and you could concentrate on sewing last night. Probably feels good to feel somewhat normal again.
Praying someone has located your results to determine how to proceed.

  25. Marsha from Kansas

So very glad you are feeling better, Mary—I think I was holding my breath until you reported some good news, and now I can breathe again—haha. Will pray for you and your health care team to get to the source of your issues, and hope there is a quick fix. Love the pic of you on your mower. Take care!

  36. Sherry Whalen

Oh Mary – I am so glad you are feeling a bit better! I’ve been so worried, you apparently haven’t heard anything from the medical centers – either one?? I’m glad you felt well enough to mow, so fun to ride around while getting a job done! On the farm, field work was my favorite, especially mowing and raking hay, it smelled SO good.

I think either tomorrow or Thursday I will have another set of photos – today and tonight our caterpillar is ‘resting’ on the lid of the jar, soon he will hang in a ‘J’ formation and a few hours after that he/she will go into chrysalis!

I had to take my Bernina 440 into the spa today – I have a very real feeling that they are going to call me and tell me that one of the computer boards are going bad…I’ve replaced one already, but I might have to give up and buy a new machine (well, I wouldn’t HAVE to – there are several in the stable lol) but there are some pretty nice features out there. She’s lived a good life and has sewn millions and millions of stitches. I told hubs though the one I am looking at isn’t nearly as expensive as the really fancy ones. But the fancy ones – I don’t want to spend all of my time learning how to use it and I don’t want to learn to embroider either. Just too lazy and uninterested I guess.

Fresh air, a little work, a friend visiting, a little relaxing sewing – you should sleep good tonight – Sherry from Kasson MN

  37. Shirley Andersen Smith

    Mary

I’m so glad you are feeling better and feel like getting some fresh air and doing some mowing. Don’t over do it and rest in between those spurts of energy. I have enjoyed all the sewing room pictures..mine could use a cleaning and organizing, but then, mid loose some sewing time!!,

  39. Debra L Reber

Mary, so glad you are starting to feel better! Mowing is therapy for my husband also!

  40. Carolyn in Illinois

Hi Mary, Enjoy all your posts and so glad you’re feeling better.
This is something strange that’s happening in my email blog posts from you. I subscribe to a blog called Home is Where the Boat is. Now….3 of your blog posts….have come in with that heading: Home is Where the Boat is but then it’s YOUR new blog post. I can’t understand how its happening. Weird.

    1. Cindy Sabinske

There is something strange going on with WordPress.I signed up for daily notifications, and get a message every time someone messages the blog. And I cannot get to the site like I used to, to make an update. And the blog the way it posts the messages with the time is backwards to me.

      1. Martha W in WY

Cindy, I bet that at some point after you wrote a comment, entered your name and email you must have check the “Notify me of new posts by email” box. Then you will receive notifications when anyone comments.

  42. Gail in Ohio

SO glad you are feeling better and had a good day!!! Hope it keeps up!!!!
Those photos – WOW, just wow! Inspiring!
