It has taken me all morning in the porch to read all the comments and messages – I loved it!! I’m feeling so much better today and since the bleeding has stopped (I had that scan on Sunday) I can now take ibuprofen again which is obviously my lifesaver!!

I just had to tell you the next funny Rick story. At the ER Sunday he let me off at the door and would just sit in the parking lot with the dogs to wait for me. After awhile in the exam room I called him to tell him they’d be doing a CT scan. I waited for quite awhile and then they were coming to get me for the scan so I called Rick again to tell him. Here’s his answer:

“Oh, I already left. I’m almost home.”

The nurse in my room just laughed. You can’t make this stuff up!

And yes, then after awhile he did have to turn around and come back to get me.

I can relate. Recently had a lung op and was dropped off and picked up in parking lot at hospital. Hubby was with doodle in car.
Same with communication snafu. You really have to laugh!
Glad that you are feeling better, hope all goes well.

Mary, I wanted you to know – I came back and read all these replies just because I knew there would be some “husband stories”!! These are great!
P.S. I noticed that all the comments now load from the top down, so the most recent comment is always at the top. Each one is time and date stamped, so you can tell.

RuthW – you know, I have no idea anymore about anything – – I swear the comments have a life of their own! Hang in there! If you will, I will!

Funny husband story. When I went back to the utility room to get my folded clothes, the blue t-shirt on top of the pile was gone. I asked my husband if he had seen it anywhere. Yes, he says, I’m going to the gym and needed some clothes to change in to later. Mary, I sure wish I hadn’t said anything. I sure would have loved to see him try to get into a women’s medium t-shirt, instead of his men’s x-large! He’s 5’11”. I’m 5’ 1”.

Your Rick story made me smile. My husband hated hospitals. I have to give him credit. He never left me there alone. Was it my terrified look in my eyes!! Poor Rick, he was looking after the dogs. Only you could understand that!! You have so much patience. Smiles to you and Rick.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Carolyn – you’re right! The dogs will always come first with me and he knows it.

Glad you’re feeling better. Sure hope they can figure out what is causing all of this!I had to laugh at your Rick Comment. This would be my husband, probably not hearing me or “not listening “ to what I said when I left the car to go into an appointment! They are all alike! 🤪🤪

It is good to hear you are feeling a little better, Mary. Dealing with medical issues can be so frustrating.
I have a funny husband story. Last Monday evening, we lost power for 24 hours. On Tuesday afternoon, I took a shower, but I couldn’t dry my hair, so I looked pretty bad. Herb said, “The pizza place is open; do you want to go out to eat?” 🤪🤣😂 Bless his heart. We settled on cheeseburgers from an ice cream place, which we ate in the truck.
    Take Care, 🥰

everybody, the photos are fantastic. i love seeing everyone’s set-up, big, small, whatever, we work with what we have. we are determined quilters. the collections are glorious, the stashes enthuse me and all the quilts and other made items. just wonderful. can’t itemize anything so as not to leave out anything.
mary, i was surprised that rick left you. i had to turn around and tell mr. ed (dh) that i was thankful he goes to my appointments with me (but we don’t cart animals). he doesn’t ever say much but he listens. sometimes he hears things or remembers things i don’t. that’s important to me. it means alot to me. i can’t take myself any more so he doesn’t really have a choice. but i do appreciate it.
today i was cutting 4.5″ and 2.5″ squares of neutrals for a project, but i think i’ve changed my mind. laid out the first 20 blocks and it doesn’t look like i envisioned. so i made another 10 blocks and it will make a baby or toddler quilt. now is time to square them up. maybe then i’ll feel good enough to lay out the pineapple blossom blocks. we’ll see. though i saw a you tube video today about a disappearing potato chip block. that intrigues me. i’ve been making some in greens and purples (first purple on inside then green and others are green on inside and then purple). the original was two colors all with the same format so will have to think about it some. i can see another tangent. it’s easy to follow the tangents because i know i can’t get upstairs to use the longarm or baste the quilts. so i give them away – top, back, binding.
mary, i’m glad you are feeling better and you sound so much more chipper. but you still need to hound the medical people to figure out what’s going on. yes, the hospital system could have been part of that massive software issue that seemed to effect planes, banks, and hospitals. i hope that is the only issue and they really aren’t that callous. prayer are still being offered up. my dad used to always say ‘smile, it makes the day better.’ i’m not sure i always agreed but it’s a good concept. gentle hugs, patti in florida

I am glad to hear you are starting to feel better. I’m praying you finally get those biopsy results. Nothing worse than the wait. Thanks for the chuckle. Glad Rick came back to get you…… LOL

  9. Gloria from CC

I can’t stop laughing! That’s the best Rick story yet. Well at least you have someone to entertain you. Ha!
    Glad ibuprofen works for you.

  10. Connie R.

Thanks for all the laughs today. I bet you could do a month of readers contributing “husband stories”. Sounds like a lot of us have been there.
Glad you are feeling better and are getting relief from the pain. Continued prayers for your complete and speedy recovery. Take care.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Connie R – you took the words right out of my mouth! Unbelievable husband anecdotes! Let me work on that.

  11. Sandy

Hi Mary, glad some of these husband stories are helping you feel better. My husband had no concept of time, we walked down the aisle together, and l always told him flights were 2 hours earlier to get him there on time ,even though we lived minutes from the airport.
I’m enjoying the sewing rooms, such neatness and space! Take care everyone ,best wishes from Sandy

  12. Jan Smith

So pleased that you are feeling better – your husband sounds like a hoot!
Really enjoying the sewing room photos

Too funny! I have a husband story as well! I was in labor with my first child and my husband was with me, things were going along pretty smooth, but I hadn’t dilated enough to give birth yet. Pete decided he’d go home to eat his dinner. Of course, a few minutes later the doctor arrives, takes a look and says “where’s your husband? You’re ready to deliver!” Luckily, we only live about 10 minutes from the hospital and he did make it in time to be with me. What an experience, those were the days when drs encouraged you to only gain so much weight and have a natural childbirth, no drugs. Thank the Lord, everything went well and she only weighed 7 lbs, 6 oz so it went well. I hope they find your results soon, if not will they be ordering more? You must be so frustrated! Jan in MA

HI Mary and all the bloggers. I had to jot down what I wanted to say b/c there were so many neat things to look at in Monday Night #1,#2,#3!!
Mary, one thing I tried was taking HALF a Vicodin. It kept the pain at bay, but didn’t make me feel like an idiot.
Tina, in OR. My husband reads the blog and he said, “Did you see Tina’s sewing room?” Well, since I read the blog, yes I did!! Love it. And, as Kathy in NY said, “They try!” Loved that, too:) I think many of us can identify with Rick–lol.
Cheryl in Arakansas, I had an 8 x 8 room that worked. Just have to be creative, don’t you!? I love Samantha, Lily, and Lucas on the labrynth quilt. I can’t wait for the butterflies to hatch and Tim’s grands are adorable. A lot to see today:)
Do keep after the Mayo, Mary. They need to step up.
    Take care.

  15. Sherri Huff

Mary, so happy to hear you are feeling better! Now, it’s time for Mayo to get you in and figure out what’s going on!
Have a blessed and joy filled day!

  16. Deb in Idaho

I laughed so hard, husbands! Mary you are so brave to go to the ER by yourself. I need someone with me. I love all the sewing rooms. All the amazing spaces. Hope they find your results so you Andrew be on the mend

  17. Kris in WI

I’m debating whether or not to tell my husband the newest Rick story. He did like the SOB chickens, but this one might hit a little close to home!
So glad you are getting some pain relief and hope the answers come soon. Prayers continue for you, Rick, and your care team. Kris

  18. Lisa B

Healing prayers for you and wisdom for the doctors. Did Mayo find your missing sample? Report?

  19. Sue in Marion, IN

Teehee! Probably dawned on him that the ER usually takes a lot more than 15 or 20 minutes!😆 So glad you’re getting some pain relief and I hope your records surface. It may indeed have been due to the internet outage—I read just this morning that people are still trying to sort out all the issues it caused. I pray your problem ends up being not serious and you can get back to your active life soon!

  20. Frances E

Men can’t help it. It’s just in their jeans (not misspelled)! 😂 So glad you are some better. Keep the faith. We can’t do without you.

France’s – I have said the very same thing!!! Remember that book from years ago – Men Are From Mars, Women are from Venus? I never read it but I’ll bet I can figure out what the message is!

  21. Jill Klop

Oh my gosh! I laughed out loud! You are the sick one but you are still making us laugh! It’s laugh or cry I guess!

  22. Another Shirley in Oregon

Oh, Mary! At times like this if we don’t laugh, we’re going to cry. I’m wondering if your medical records delay has anything to do with the recent global software outage. Even though I live in a small community, our local hospital experienced problems.

  23. Charlotte

Mary, I am glad you were getting some relief from the ibuprofen and while you don’t need another person giving you advice I am urging you and lifting you in prayer to break through to Mayo to get that scan done. Pain is a signal about something that needs to be attended to. God bless you and keep you in his care.

  24. Janet

I love the Rick stories. Those SOB chickens! I’m still laughing over that too.
    Glad you’re feeling better.

  25. Angie from Baltimore

Typical man. I was at the hospital to deliver my first baby and contractions were 2 minutes apart. My husband dropped me off at the door and went to park the car. They didn’t have automatic doors and they were so heavy I was afraid the baby would fall out. So I stood there crying and a man came up and opened the door and asked if I was alone and I told him my husband was parking the car. So in I went and they got me a wheelchair and I look out and here he comes strolling in and asked “why are you crying? Pain? “. Nope God forbid if it is them in the hot seat.
    Glad your doing better

  26. Fiona at Ice Bear Quilts

I’m glad you are feeling better Mary. Hopefully things will get sorted out for you soon. I enjoyed the Rick story: I bet the nurses have heard something like that many many times!
When my mother was in labour with me, my father asked her if she could please have the baby before lunchtime, so that he could go back to work in the afternoon! I was born at 12:00 noon exactly, so he got his afternoon at work!! He did come back and visit her (and me) in the evening, after work. Other times, I guess!

  27. Sandra Goddard

All I can say is husbands you have to just love them. Glad you are feeling better.

  28. Joy in NW Iowa

You must not be far from the ER for him to go home. Glad your bleeding has stopped and that you have pain relief!
Now, for the next step…get some answers!
It’s warming up here this week. Our lawn is looking like it would like rain.

  29. Dee

So glad you can get relief from all that pain now! It is just like a man to do that hospital leave you story! I hope you continue to feel better!

  30. Jan in AZ

    Mary,
So glad to hear you are getting some physical relief. The dogs must have been confused, but, then got to take another ride to pick you up, full of tail wags! Humor is so good.
I’m enjoying all the sewing room pictures.
