Reed is on spring break so he came this morning at 9 am and I took him home at 5:30. He got his quilt all put together!
Log Cabin 101
Hazel had to get into the picture with her BFF.
He did a stupendous job, didn’t he? Here’s a few more photos:
Connie came out to fill orders while we were working. This is what I had up on the wall first – my backing for Rectangle Wrangle – took me hours! Ugh!
I have received only two Harvey pictures but here’s a sweet Harvey with plaid pants by Susan.
And the rabbits are multiplying at Diane’s house!
Little Harvey can be purchased for $5 and both big and small Harvey for $10.00. Check to Country Threads – there’s still time to make him before Easter.
Beyond The Battlefield is available for $31 to Country Threads.
March Night Star available for $3 to Country Threads.
I think I’ve covered all the current patterns but I’m going to give you some time to get your spring quilt up when you take Harvey down. This is actually “Looks Like A Gameboard” done in bright spring fabrics! It’s easy and looks great with simple quilting – mine is going to hang outside until mid May when I put up a patriotic quilt to last through Memorial Day, Flag Day and 4th of July!
Had to take that one picture with the huge icicles close by. Two seasons in one picture – ha!
Look at the dirt in these window sills!
We’ve had the most fun day – Hazel is resting now.
Peggy has been busy since the first of the year. She sent me this picture of the Itty. Itty quilts we’ve offered.
When Reed got here this morning he started by watering the plants in the basement – Ernie looks on.
Here’s what new: Looks Like A Gameboard pattern, $5.00.
Whew! I think that’s all for now – time for a beer and some supper!
Reed’s quilt is beautiful!! He does great work!!
Tell Reed his quilt is a winner in my book! Good job.
Great job Reed ! You both can be very proud 🙂
Great job Reed!
Great work Reed! It’s always great to have multiple talents. Each talent feeds others, you may not think so, but it’s a circle to create great things. You and Mary have such a great partnership going.
Hug Hazel and the farm animals for me.
Reed is sure to win a ribbon at the fair. He did a wonderful job. I love the colors and the layout. Give him a ‘high five’ for me.
Mary Waller – his quilt backing fabric is of course chickens! We have to piece about 10” in the center to come up to size and he’s going to make chicken blocks and cut chicken fabrics to fill in!
Reed is the luckiest kid on earth to have such a great mentor! I love what you and Reed are up to!
Reed’s quilt is amazing!
Wow Reed!! Your first quilt is spectacular!!! How lucky for you to have the best teacher ever.
Reed’s quilt is amazing! Good job! I love the way Hazel lays on the chair!
Reed’s quilt is really really nice. Good job to you! I love your “beer” comment. I don’t drink beer but many of my friends do and sure likes it. I quilt also and Love your style. Look forward to ready your blogs. DEE
Reed’s quilt is AWESOME!! He did a fabulous job, and i especially love his color choices, wonderful scrappiness! What talent he has and such a big helper too!!
A great job on the quilt Reed! What memories the two of you are making.
Reed did a fantastic job on his log cabin! Yeah for him!!!
Mary what a great teacher you are. Reed has done a wonderful job on the quilt. I really like the backing for your rectangle wrangle. Thank you for the pictures of Harvey. Like the plaid pants.
The beer sounds refreshing.
Awesome job! When I taught home ec I found the boys were better at sewing than the girls. Very concerned that their stitches be perfect! Plus, it was a MACHINE! One of my favorite recollections was of the boy who wanted the embroider the Playboy bunny. The bunny itself was not a problem, so I agreed to his request. I overheard him telling his friend, “She says it’s okay. Besides, when we’re outside of class we can sew anything we want and she can’t do anything about it!”
Kathy Warren – the Playboy bunny- I’ve heard everything now! Yes, Reed is meticulous – probably more so than me and he’s good with the machine. He’s already throwing ideas out for his next quilt – a true quilter, isn’t he? Always wants to start another project!
I love that Reed is finishing his project while planning the next. It’s a good life lesson to finish – I could learn from his example. Ha! I’m like a kid on the soccer field! Oh look it’s a butterfly and off I go, distracted by the next great pattern
What a great job Reed!! Your quilt is just wonderful and you should be very proud of yourself. Mary I’m sure that your heart is singing and are very please for Reed! 👏👏👏 to the both of you!
Reed is a very talented young man. Quilts, chickens, plants and an award winning smile!
WOE PLEASE tell Reed that the placement of his blocks make a great quilt and he has our vote for a blue ribbon!!! Mary, you have shared your talent with not only us but to Reed and that is something he will always remember. Your kindness will double many times through him.
Great quilt Reed! What a great friendship the two of you have. Thanks for all the updates. I love your blog.
Wow Reed! That is so awesome! Know you must be very happy your top is done. Lots of wonderful fabrics and great piecing! Congrats!
Reed’s quilt is wonderful! I’m very impressed!
Fantastic quilt Reed. Love your design and colors.
Carolyn B
Reed’s Log Cabin quilt is the bees’ knees! 🙂
-Jean ❤
Congrats to both student and teacher. Reed’s quilt is wonderful. I love the way he laid it out. Great job!! I just found the fabric I want to use for Harvey so it may be a while before I send a pic. It’s going to be 58 or so tomorrow and 67 on Thursday. I hope you get some of this, Mary🌞🌞. I am planning to spray layer some projects😃
Reed is a pro! And he had a good teacher. Love it. What a gift you are giving each other.
Reed’s quilt is beautiful! He did a great job. I am so glad you are making
a difference in a child’s life. We all need those “extra” Mom’s or Grandma’s
in our lives.
Love how Hazel is sleeping on the chair. One leg hanging over the edge.
GREAT job Reed! You have a bright future!
Beautiful job Reed!!!! You should be so proud of yourself! I didn’t learn to quilt until I was 30 😄 Big day for me tomorrow, I am cutting my long hair short to donate to Locks for Love. The funny thing is my husband wants me to clip his hair close to donate also but there is not much there 😂. It’s a great thing to do for those fighting cancer. We have 2 close family members fighting cancer right now.
My son has done that for years. He always said, “ now a little girl can look like Shirley Temple and I can look like a cancer patient”.
What a beautiful gift you are giving.
Lunettes Stewart – hats off to you for donating your long hair!
Linette, that is wonderful. I did it several years ago to honor my friend with Ovarian Cancer. Pantene will take 9″ so that was my goal. I made it to 9 1/2″. They sent me a very nice letter telling me they would be donating a wig to someone and thanking me for my hair. My hair stylist was so patient and a great help.
Great quilt Reed!
Reed did a great job! And how wonderful to have this life skill. It’s wonderful the two of you can spend time together. We live away from our families and it is wonderful to have people that fill the “grandparent” role for our kids.
Reed, your quilt is beautiful! Congratulations on your work it is very well done.
Looking forward to seeing what you will be making next.
Carla – Reed is already planning his next project! A true quilter!
Hook ‘em while they’re young and they have a skill for their life. Eager to see his backing idea come to fruition.
You are one lucky lady to have such a handsome sewing buddy. Good job on your quilt Reed. Hi to Hazel.
So proud of Reid and the beautiful Log Cabin quilt he made. It is just wonderful and I am going to cross my fingers that it gets a blue ribbon. Mary it is so great how you have taken him under your wing and started him quilting and gardening. These skills will last him a lifetime. ❤️🏅💁♂️❤️
Love Reed’s quilt. Log cabin is my favorite block to make.
Reed’s quilt looks great…..well done! 😀👍
You two are quite a pair; lucky to have each other!!
Reed’s quilt is wonderful, his colors and the layout are beautiful. Thanks for posting the book list and showing your game board quilt, it looks very springy. I am so tired of cold and snow, I want warm spring temps…oh well, it’s good to want!
Reed- Your Log Cabin quilt looks really good. I like to balance of colors and the layout. Great Job!
Mary- I want to tell you I received my Barn Stars pattern as ordered but my envelope was only sealed by a very tiny spot of “sticky” along one edge of the flap. I t looks like the whole thing had been sealed at one point but that one small spot was the only part left sealed together. I don’t know how the envelope did not come unsealed completely. The pattern was still in there and o.k. Just want you to know since I saw the other comments.
Susan
Susan Lee – and those self seal envelopes are brand new! Yikes – I so appreciate your note!
Reed did an amazing job! You can tell he really enjoys his time with you!
Reed did a great job on his quilt. Your backing is perfect for your quilt…I like it just as well without the dark fabric going through your top.
SPRING BREAK…what a wonderful sound. We have blizzard warnings in the forecast.
Reed, your quilt is grand!! Looks like you two plus Hazel are having a great time.
fantastic colors on the log cabin and set in my favorite way. great job, reed. i hope you win ribbons. even if you don’t, you know we all love what you did and you’ll know you’ve done a great job. love the rabbits and their great looking pants. wow! like the board game quilt also. smart to make something that can be displayed or a couple months. love your blog, love seeing the snow but am glad it isn’t in florida. lol patti in florida
Reed is a keeper! What a great skill you have taught him. And he will cherish that quilt forever. I think I want the spring quilt, so will send the money AND a label haha. Any chance you have a Cobblestone pattern left? I thought I had sent for one, but guess not, it’s not in my pile of your patterns. Please, Please?.. I get it if no. Pouring rain and thundering in Des Moines. looks like a lot of flooding headed our way. Especially along Four Mile Creek on the east side of Des Moines right next to my office, We flooded last year to the tune of a million dollars of damage. Not excited to see what it going to happen this week and next.
Diana in Des Moines – Cobblestone can be purchased for $10 if you want it . Sure hope your office doesn’t flood again!
Reed is quite the quilter and I love his quilt. Great Job Reed and love the pic of you and Hazel. I wonder what his next quilt will be ??? Thanks for your posts Mary as I really enjoy reading them and seeing all your projects, animals, etc. what a wet rainy day and tomits supptonrain all day.
Wow! Reed’s quilt is wonderful – he is so talented!! Glad he is thinking of his next project….always good to know what you want to do next. He and Hazel are buddies for sure. He should be very proud of himself.
love all of your patterns. Such fun to see all your quilts hanging on the front door area, They look really festive. I am still putting my bullseye blocks together, cutting out another project, never an end to things and I am so glad. So happy for you and Reed to have each other!
Congratulations to Reed. He did a fabulous job – sewing and colors!
Also love that Spring quilt. The colors are wonderful and look so nice on the front of the building.
Reed,
What a terrific quilt! Love it!
Score another one for the future of quilting-he wants to plan his NEXT one!
Hazel cracks me up – on the back of the chair. I have seen only cats lay like that-not dogs!!! 🤣😂🤣
Hugs to All you snow bunnies!
Judy in Texas, warm one day, cold the next!
Bradford pear trees are in bloom. Shhh-they think it is Spring! 🌷Tulips will be next.
NO ads today!
What’s up with that-not even one in over 50 comments.
Judy in Texas
Judy Linn – I noticed no ads as well – I just don’t know who to ask about this issue – anybody have an idea?
I look forward to your posts…..especially if there is a Reed or Hazel picture. Reed did a fantastic job on his quilt. It is lovely. Hazel is such a cutie and I think it’s hilarious how she sleeps on the back of a chair. Thank you Mary for sharing.
Reed has a great eye for color! Enjoyed seeing the Harvey wall hangings–gotta get started on mine!
Great job on the Log cabin quilt!!! If they give purple ribbons, this quilt should get one.
Love all the Harvey’s, esp. purple pants. Clever.
And the game board quilt looks great among the ice. Very pretty.
LOVE Reed’s setting! First prize/blue ribbon coming up!
Reeds quilt is amazing! ❤
Reed’s quilt is absolutely wonderful.
That’s a wonderful looking log cabin quilt! Congratulations to Reed for careful sewing and creative colors. In my youth the roles for women and men were very strictly drawn. Now men and boys are free to try things that the men of my husband’s era weren’t. I’m still laughing at Kathy Warren’s description of the boy in home ec. wanting to make a Playboy bunny. I taught 7th grade and would have had some of my boys thinking this up as well. Love the game board quilt that is so bright in the white season. It’s looks so cheerful outside the door, and I’d like to make one too. I’ll be sending in my order.
Wow! Reed’s quilt is phenomenal. What an accomplishment in his early quilting years. Can’t wait to see what he decides to tackle next.
March Madness tournament right around the corner. I know you enjoy it. Hope your teams are in and are winners.
Gloria B – yes, I’m looking forward to the Big 12 Tournament first and then on to March Madness!
Hi Mary…Reed’s Quilt is really awesome! I like his idea for the backing-that will be lively! All the rabbbits are so colorful. Wow! What cute Hazel pictures. Is she tired of winter days? The snow is beautiful. Thanks for all the snow pictures. I sense you are ready to move on to Springtime. Blue being my favorite color so I like your “shirt quilt” and pieced backing. Lots of pieces on that…the subtle shading suits me…
Helen Jane – thanks for your note that came with your order! And yes, Hazel is sick of cold snowy weather as am I.
Mary n Reed…I love all 48 blocks! Great setting, too. Know it’s a winner! Congrats to Reed!
Had a great day, but the storm from Pacific North West has just brought a wee snow shower!
Thanks for the pictures, Mary.
Years ago I worked for a CPA. There were just the 2 of us. During tax season we were both very busy, but come summer I had to keep myself busy and not bother him. He really didn’t care what I did as long as I was there to keep the office running. So, I sewed all my own clothes and always cut them out on his desk so he had to play golf on Wednesday afternoon. I also knit, crocheted and sewed Barbie doll clothes. One day I was working on a dress when the copier repairman was there. He told me something I’d never thought about but what I was doing was engineering. He was right….. The pieces have to fit together or it won’t fit.
So Reed, you are learning math, engineering and so much more that will help you go on to whatever road your life will go. Don’t forget growing stuff, taking care of all the critters and everything else. So congratulations on your accomplishments. Your quilt looks great and will do good at the fair.
Betty K – I have a similar story. When I took ninth grade algebra, I got a D one quarter and my instructor gave me a stern warning that I needed to know algebra. The next year was geometry and I boldly told the same teacher that I refused to take it because I’d NEVER use it! Haha! The joke’s on me!
Congratulations to Reed! He did a magnificent job. And he has a great teacher!!
Reed’s quilt looks great!!! Gameboard quilt picture didn’t post just the price.
Wow, Reed!!! Awesome job!! I love the layout! You’ve done a superb job! And I love that you are already planning your next project! I will be anxious to hear what it will be!! Mary, kudos to you for sharing your talent with an up-and-coming new quilter!
We had 60 degrees here in Colorado today–the dogs and I enjoyed great walks out in the sunshine–and tomorrow we are to experience a “Bomb Cyclone Storm”, whatever that means!! CSU in Fort Collins and CU Denver have already cancelled classes before the snow has even begun. Poudre School District in Fort Collins has already cancelled classes. This is unprecedented. I am hoping against hope that the weathermen are totally wrong, as they so often are. I’m trying to get to New Mexico on Friday and am not crazy about the weather getting in my way. But if it does, Pin Pals just arrived in the mail today, so I will be busy being creative!!
Diane Bauer – oh, I hope that system doesn’t get to North Iowa!
Hazel has good taste in her BFF’S!! Wonderful quilt Reed. You should be very proud of yourself. You just made an heirloom and someday you can tell your kids how you sewed it and all about your wonderful teacher ♥️ Well done to both of you!
Your “game board” quilt is so bright and cheerful. It looks great hanging outside your home. A bright spot in the snow! Reeds quilt turned out wonderfully! Will he add borders? He’s sure to receive high awards for it at the fair.
Tina W. – he’s still deciding about borders.
Reeds quilt is wonderful!! He did such a good job. I love all the bunnies. Hugs,
Reed is an amazing young man; you two are quite the duo. I loved the picture of Hazel wiped out after a fun day quilting with her buddy? Your spring quilt is wonderful; I felt hopeful just looking at it. Thanks.
Reed did an amazing job on the quilt! He had a great teacher, so not surprised.
I love the Spring Game Board Quilt!
Karen Gaither – I’m so sorry about Ali – how are you?
Reeds quilt is awesome! Chicken backing be great! That might be his signature by using chickens for backings! Hazel is so cute! Love seeing the Harvies! Your backing to your quilt looks good! Blends well together. The Spring broad looks so bright in picture! Can’t wait when less rain! My yard a swamp!
Reed should be so proud of himself for making such an amazing quilt. I, for one, would definitely give him the blue ribbon. He has earned it. Yea, Reed.
Oh my goodness, Reed, your quilt is just waiting for the blue ribbon to be placed on it!! You have done a wonderful job!! I don’t remember seeing the layout, I really like that too. Can’t wait to see the back you come up with!! You are way more careful than I am. I love your color choices! GREAT JOB!
I may have to send for the Spring Game Board pattern!! That is very nice. When I find a place to move into that would be fun to put it outside too! If I get the place I want, it will hang on the south side of the house…that may not be good, NO shade there. Maybe there will be a space on the west side that is shaded. Will see what God provides!
We are in a Winter Weather Advisory again, it looks like it may blow over. Snow was supposed to start at 8:30, it is now 11:00 and nothing has happened. Radar says now about 4:00 AM. If so, I stay home and quilt tomorrow otherwise go to town and get groceries…we’ll see.
Thanks for your hard work, Mary! I love all of your pictures of quilts, plants and animals!
Beryl Hoff – I’ve been wondering if you’re moving. Reed is planning the back of his quilt now!
Wow, Reed! Love your quilt, hats off to you. You are lucky to have Mary in your life and Mary is luck to have you in hers. Mary, be sure to show us the back of the quilt too. Love to see pictures of diva Hazel. How is Ben, Connie’s grandson doing?
Felicia Hamlin – March 20 is the end of his 3 year treatment plan and he is doing great! I should get a picture to post – thanks for asking!
Reed did a wonderful job on his quilt. Love the colors and layout! Just waiting for a blue ribbon!
Reed’s quilt is beautiful! He can be very proud. Mary, you are a great teacher
Beautiful quilt Reed, You are very talented!
Love the picture of Reed & Hazel
Love Reed’s quilt. So warm and cozy looking and with the gold color center square keeping it all so calming to look at. I hope it’s a blue ribbon on his quilt as we will all want to see a picture of him standing in front of it hanging in the fair. Gee Mary maybe you will be asked to judge the fine arts division with your knowledge of sewing. I remember a young man in our county who went on in 4-H to sew his own suit in high school. I especially loved the picture of Reed’s due diligence lining up the seams under the pressure foot! Thanks for the pictures of Harvey- I needed that push to select my fabrics and begin it. Those plaid pants cracked me up so gotta check out my stash now. 50’s here today Mary so I feel blessed!!!
Kathy in western NY – I would not feel very comfortable being a judge – I just like to view and admire. Reed is a quick study – he can break down a block for construction in nothing flat – he is a natural. I loved those plaid pants, too!
Wonderful job on the log cabin quilt Reed, you should be an inspiration to all of us.
How wonderful to have a sewing buddy Mary and such an enthusiastic quick learner.
I am trying not to start any new projects until I get the binding on the large pile of quilts waiting for me. I need to do this now while it’s still cold and I enjoy have a quilt on my lap. That is until Little Harvey arrives then I may just have to slip him in.
Hazel has such a personality love seeing pictures of her. I guess your chicks are getting big now and braver and bolder. No chicks for me this year I would love to have some but just don’t have the time. I don’t want to upset my Buff Orpington she will be 10 years old on April 8 plus My dogs are aging and require a lot of care right now. Maybe next spring I have always wanted a small flock of Indian Runner ducks, just because they are so cute.
We are supposed to have more normal temperatures in the 40’s and the sun is brightly shining this morning. Hoping we will have a lot of snow melt today.
Spring can’t be far away now, when I came home from teaching my quilting class I noticed footprints across the front in the snow, they were bear tracks.
Love all the critters even the large scary ones.
Thanks for the book list I will print these pages out and share with my sister in law.
Rita in CT – no chicks, huh? I had to tell Reed yesterday that we could not order chicks this year and maybe not until he’s able to come every day to do chores. Baby chicks are lots of work and I just can’t take on any more this year. My old Buff Orpingtons are getting frail and I hate when the roosters find them! I may feel different next year – you, too. Good luck on all that binding – I’ve resorted to machine binding because my hands just can’t hold that needle.
OUTSTANDING, REED!!!
Well Done Reed! Your quilt is absolutely wonderful. I love the layout you chose too.
Hugs, Sandy
Congrats Reed on a job well done!! Your quilt should get a “best in show” at this years fair..
Hooray for Reed! His quilt looks great, and I love the picture with him and Hazel. Will this one be going into the Fair this year? The pictures will make great documentation of his time and effort.
Love the picture of Hazel splayed out on top of the chair. In addition to being a great photo, with the reds and whites carrying through to Hazel’s pretty coloring, it is so typical of how our dogs and cats view their place in our house: “I’ll just flop down here…”
Did I miss the window for purchasing a Bulls Eye pattern? We have a new puppy, so I’ve been chasing after a lot of deadlines for the last few weeks, at the same time I’m chasing after a busy little fellow. (Good thing he is a cutie!)
Beth T – you can still order Bullseye. Puppies are very time consuming, aren’t they? What kind of puppy?
Oh, Mary, he is such a darling boy! We have four other dogs and they’re all pretty busy-types: shepherds and a terrier, so I’ve been saying I miss having a more laid back dog and I was hoping that our next dog would be like that. Someone who would hang out with me when I read books or sit by me when I pull weeds. Well, we always adopt from CARE Texas, a rescue organization in San Antonio. The woman who runs it is nearly an angel; she goes to high-kill shelters and pulls dogs from death row and posts their pictures. They stay with foster families until they find permanent homes. Our little guy was so young that they had to just guess his heritage, and the guess was Lab-Bassett, which I thought sounded just right: happy, easy-going. We hopped right on it and he flew out to Oregon. It’s turning out that he is more like a dachshund mix. The little fellow just isn’t growing! But he is a sweet, loving boy, very cuddly, and a very good companion. He loves to crawl into my lap and hang out with me when I’m reading or watching tv and I think he is going to be a wonderful buddy. I am crazy about him.
I love this rescue group. Our puppy’s sister came down with a terrible case of bronchitis and they did everything necessary to care for her until she was well enough to be adopted–by some people we know whom we’d shown a video of our puppy romping with his sister at the foster family’s home. I know that a sick puppy would not have lasted at a shelter; they couldn’t have invested the time and the money it took to get her well.
If anyone wants to help them out, you can designate them as your free smile.Amazon.com recipient and every purchase you make will give them 1% of your purchase. Their official name is Cressie Animal Refuge and Enrichment Center. (Cressie was the founder’s beloved dog.)
Thanks for letting me know about the Bulls Eye pattern. I’ll send out a check tomorrow; I am slow, but I’m really enjoying making it and know I’ll want to have a written pattern as a reference later. Sorry to be so chatty…
Beth T – I LOVE CHATTY! And I love dogs and rescues to I really enjoyed your letter. That woman who runs the rescue is who I wanted to be when I grew up – honestly if I were still single I’d have a herd of dogs. Hazel is not very calm however. When she gets wound up she’s nearly uncontrollable and Rick hates the barking. It doesn’t bother me and we live in the country so nobody else hears her. She does sleep on my lap if I’m in the recliner which is very sweet the way she stretches out on my legs or between them. I’m going to read more about your rescue online – there’s a gal in Iowa very similar and that’s where my 1% is going now. It’s Heinz57 Rescue and she, too, is nearly an angel.
Wow, Reed – great quilt! Log Cabin is my favorite and I love how you set the blocks. Very striking. And I can see from the pictures that your piecing is perfect. I hope you score a ribbon! Mary, love this rendition of the Game Board Quilt!
WOW!! Great Job Reed!! LOVE the colors — so rich and warm. Fun to see the Harveys being created too!
You Go Reed!!! Great job.
Reed’s quilt is wonderful. Love the colors he picked. He did such a great job of piecing it too. What an accomplishment to be very proud of for you both. Reed is learning so many practical life skills from you Mary. I bet a lot of young kids would benefit from this sort of attention and “education”. So worthwhile!
What a great quilt Reed has made! He is so handsome and love his haircut. My grandson has the same cut..so neat! I can see he and Hazel are besties. I am so happy you and Reed have each other in your lives. Love the pictures and still wish I had a dog like Hazel. So cute on the back of the chair.
Reed’s quilt is awesome…..live the layout and the colors! Can’t wait to see the back and finished quilt. will Reed use the long arm to quilt it? He and Hazel look like they go together. Great memories you two.
Reed’s quilt is awesome…..love the layout and the colors! Can’t wait to see the back and finished quilt. will Reed use the long arm to quilt it? He and Hazel look like they go together. Great memories you two.
Both Reed and you did a marvelous job. I really like the layout of the quilt. I have log cabin blocks to use, and I may follow what Reed did. Our county fair is celebrating the 100 birthday of the log cabin that sits on the fairgrounds. The challenge in the sewing department is to create something using log cabin blocks. No time like now to be doing that project. The snow is disappearing . Our driveway is a giant quagmire; I nearly got stuck trying to leave to go the store. I’m looking forward to sunny dry weather. Hazel and Ernie are adorable.
Reed, I like your quilt very much. I’ve recently done a couple of log cabin pieces. Best of luck with it at the fair and with future quilt projects.
Mary, I want you to know we pay good money around here to get dirt like that on your windowsills. Our soil has a lot of clay in it. It’s taken a lot of years to get the garden fairly soft. I remember how easy it was to dig the dirt in N Iowa.
Thank you everyone for all the compliments-Reed
Reed – you’re a hit with these ladies, aren’t you? They think you’re an excellent quilter already and you are!
Reed’s quilt is awesome! I love watching him grow up on the blog….he has such a good teacher!
Reed, your quilt is absolutely awesome. Your selections of fabrics is outstanding and it looks to me like you have perfect 1/4 inch seams. If you were my grandson I would be showing your quilt to everyone. I’m really proud of you. Can’t wait to see what your next one will be.
What a spectacular first quilt. Congratulations to Reed.
Wow! Reed’s quilt is amazing, he did a great job.
Hi Mary!
I have a picture of Nettie’s cat and 100 Wishes quilt that I just KNOW you and Connie will love. I’ll send to your email.
Regarding ads, I usually only get 1 that’s days but I have to scroll up to find it.
I’m working on my Wear Warm Clothes. I’ll send a few pics of that as well.
Miss you and Connie,
Lisa Kogan
PS-my comments have never posted correctly to your site so hoping after the “fix”, this one will.
Lisa Kogan – hope you see this comment as well. Yours came through to me fine. Do not know why there are no ads and our payback certainly shows it. Virtually nothing in the past week or so.
Every now and then Mary Harwood shows up in FB and I know you’re missing her. Sometimes her picture shows up in my revolving photos on my screen and I can hardly believe she’s gone. I’m sure you feel the same.
I’ll look for the picture – I’m trying hard to post them on the blog – it’s hard to get them transferred.
Maybe someday there will be a pattern or book, “Log Cabin Quilts with Reed”! Until then, we’ll enjoy the pictures and progress!
Oh my gosh, Reed is awesome. His two quilts are terrific. I can’t believe how well he pieces and chooses colors and and and… I don’t think a log cabin is an easy block. It is easy to get it wonky. He is better than I am. Yikes. Our weather today got up to 60. Can’t believe it , it was so delightful. I spent the day outside, first looking for some bluebirds my husband spotted on his walk to the post office and then raking and pulling that darn english ivy that has taken over our yard. It was here when we bought the house over 34 yrs ago and I’ve been fighting all these years. Since the areA i WAS WORKING ON ALSO HAS POISON IVY i HOPE i DON’T BREAK out like I did last year. It just makes me so mad. Anyway – love your cheery game quilt and is it too late to order Harvey? Hope Spring is on the way for you soon.
Patricia – Harvey will be available till Easter so yes, you can order it.
