A Sunday Finish

I finished the Sugar Maple quilt last night and quickly took this picture.

It’s hanging outside my sewing room door and a breeze lifted it momentarily. I’m off to Target right now but will write all the details when I get home.

And I’m excited to think about a Bullseye quilt along – pictures of those quilts coming, too! So much to talk about! Later, my friends……

Love this little quilt! Do I remember you saying you were going to have a pattern for it? It’s perfect for fall.🍁🍂

Looking so good, Mary. Great project gently moving in the breeze there. A cooler morning up here in Idaho 64 degrees @ 11am. Fire danger is still high. Thanks for the pattern offer. A bargain @ $3.

Hope to see Connie’s new project soon??

I love the maple leaf quilt but I’m really excited to join in on the quilt along! I have always wanted to do the Bullseye quilt! I’ll be going through my stash of cottons today…

The Maple Leaf was one of the first wallhangings I made. Quilted it with invisible thread. A long time ago

Yes, I like the quilted fall leaves. I think I will go stash diving this afternoon. I always enjoy the surprise of your blogs. I have enjoyed them all. So nice to meet Kathy and her llamas last week. Enjoyed all Reed’s fair experience. I was in 4H many years ago (probably 60 years -Yikes). I made the 4H skirt with the elastic band for waist with matching scarf with winge edge. Good times and the beginning of my sewing. I will be waiting for your return. Hi all, cause I read all comments too.

Mary, I love this – it is so pretty. When you have the pattern ready I will have to send for it. Perfect for fall.
This week Brownie will go to Charter House (the mayo Clinic’s Senior Living facility) to visit the residents there. He likes people so it works out well for him to go. He badly needs a bath first so think of us on Wednesday morning when we are doing that job! lol

Can’t imagine bathing a llama. 🤗 Tough enough time to trim & bathe my Springer!! 🐶

Lovely fall quilted wall hanging! I pulled my Quilts from Aunt Amy book and have cut my background squares… I’m going to use the bullseye fabric from my plaid shirt stash. This is going to be FUN!! Love all you do Mary ♥️

I believe you sold this maple leaf pattern at your quilt shop. I bought it(maybe a kit) at Columbus, OH. when you did the show at the Historical Society. Also bought and made the Cobblestone kit and pattern. I always looked forward to the show so I could find your little kits. They helped me get better at piecing and made delightful pieces. I think it’s a great idea to offer these patterns now to your readers.

Norma – yes! This kit was called Sugar Maple. Do you still attend the Country Living Fair? I sure do miss it. Some of our old patterns are just too good not to re-make and Sugar Maple is one of them!

      1. Norma Gebhardt

Yes, I have attended the last few years, but not near as much fun since you girls are not there. There is really not too much there that appeals to me anymore. I did buy a Bennington pitcher last year. The driving and traffic are too much for me so I depend on my daughter, Sue. She’s the one who liked the Cobblestone kit that I made up, so she now displays it in her home.

That is a wonderful quilt. So great to have for fall, too. Love the colors and the vintage feel of it.

I’m looking forward to making the leaf quilt. This is a maple leaf state for sure. This time I’ll try to do straight line quilting done on my sewing machine instead of taking it to my long arm quilter. I like the way your leaf quilt looks. Target—I’m so envious, especially that Super Target in Mason City! We don’t have a single Target store in all of VT, I think because the state of VT is very strict about the size store it will allow and Terget won’t compromise on size. VT is trying to keep its downtowns intact and it’s worked pretty well so far.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Pat Smith – VT has the right idea for small town merchants BUT I couldn’t live without Target. And because Target is so close, I just can’t find the selection of anything I’m wanting to buy. It’s a vicious circle.

Love your little quilt I love the leaves and color and looking forward to fall. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

That’s a perfect little Autumn quilt. How on earth do you get your bindings on so quickly? I reach that point and my quilt can sit for weeks.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Mary Roen – I’ve started putting them on completely by machine – I have much arthritis in my hands and it’s painful to do the hand stitching.

  13. Ellie

Love your Maple Leaf quilt. I made a bulls eye many years ago and would like to make another. A quilts long would be fun!

  14. Kathy

What a nice fall quilt. I will wait to see the bulls eye quilt and might send one check for both patterns depending on what you think or if I want both. This will be a great project. And yes, it’s so fun to read all the comments from people or else we won’t know one of the llama is getting a bath before going out. I love it!! This blog is all I need for entertainment in my simple life.

  15. Sharon Ernst

Just beautiful, Mary! Isn’t Fall a wonderful season with all of it’s warm colors?!

  16. Peggy

Love the maple leaf quilt, Mary!! Especially how the blocks are randomly placed & not in “row by row, by row!!” Anxious to send for the pattern. (Business size envelope again?)

  17. Maria Honkala

Perfect! Just what I need to make for my farmhouse In Vermont! I sympathize with Pat Smith from Vermont with no Target, but I am 30 minutes from the New Hampshire border where I live, and yes they do have box stores and no sales tax! We do have a lot of beautiful main streets and town greens, so it is worth the inconvenience. Can’t wait to order that beautiful maple leaf pattern to celebrate autumn and my beautiful state of Vermont!

  18. Linda Baker

How in the world did you get this done so fast?? I haven’t accomplished a darn thing all summer.
I love every thing about your quilt, the colors are just yummy.

  19. Donna Sproston

I love that maple leafcquilt! I will check my stash of Country Threads patterns and see if I already have it. When you apply your binding by machine do you use the typical 2 1/2 wide strip folded in half? I am puzzled how to join it–just fold one end under the other rather than do that angle cut?

Mary it might be a good idea to show all of us how you do your sewn on binding……Paula in KY

  22. Felicia Hamlin

Mary, what a pretty little quilt! You are so fast, I am all thumbs with my sewing and it is so expensive to have my quilts quilted. I was hoping that you would have come to the EXPO in Blue Earth again. We had a very nice exhibit.

I am wondering how you give a bath to a llama, I enjoy giving Zena a bath because she is so small. Hugs.
