What IS that thing to behold? It’s a clean house! My cleaning lady was here today after an extended time and it’s a pleasure to walk through and see clean floors and appliances, sinks, vacuumed rugs and just all around order. Love it!
Here’s what Hazel and Keeper did for fun today – they dug out a family of 5 mice from this pile of dirt. Hazel has a nose like a bloodhound and she knew those mice were in there.

Yesterday Finn and Ivy spent the afternoon –

I forgot to turn the lights off in the haymow Saturday and when it got dark I saw this – quite eerie, don’t you think?

And so now we know everyone’s devices show the comments, the reply box and the post differently. We can close the book on this dilemma. Thank goodness!
I’m still working on my pink wonky log cabin blocks. I think I’ve mastered wonky.
Here’s a question for everyone – is there a website you enjoy? Tell us all what it is in the comments. I don’t know if it’s possible to leave an active link in a comment but if you know how to do that it would be great. Otherwise just tell the name.
Good night from the blog about nothing.

i think it is wonderful that your dogs have play dates!!
love the fall photos. will have to come back to make list of sites to visit.
sleep well, patti in florida
I like Barbara Brackman’s quilt history blogs, http://civilwarquilts.blogspot.com/ is one of them.
And Audrey, who makes fun and funky quilts: https://quiltyfolk.blogspot.com/
And Krista Moser, a young quilt designer who makes wonderful things with diamond rulers, and who shares lots of tips and techniques: https://www.kristamoser.com/
And Saija in Finland, whose quilts are modern and beautiful: https://saijaelina.blogspot.com/
And, finally, Linda in New Zealand, who uses lots of prints: https://kokaquilts.blogspot.com/
Dot – thank you! Such a list – I will keep a copy of this and check them out one by one.
Your barn is beautiful, Mary; restoring it was admiral. It is so sad when they just fall apart board by board.
I think Keeper loves Sam as much as she loves him. I bet the nest of young mice was quite entertaining for Hazel and Keeper.
We are starting to see some color in the trees here. However, our temps do not feel like autumn.
Thanks, Mary 🥰
Thankyou for these awesome pictures! All the dogs are so wonderful, I love seeing them enjoying themselves.
Thankyou!
I love the barn pictures. I never get tired of seeing it. It’s fabulous. Your pups are just too cute. I laughed out loud at the “butt planted in your garden”. 😄 I didn’t get to go back and comment on yesterday’s blog. That rug is outstanding! And the decor around it are beauties. All the fall decorations are so pretty. My mums are just budding. I’m watching the tree guys trim out a tulip tree that broke in a tornado storm a few months back. They make it look easy.
Have a great day everybody.
Great picture of the barn. As I take meals to the field during harvest, I’m always looking for new recipes. One of my favorite sites for pressure cooking is 365daysofcrockpot.com. there are recipes for both the crockpot and the pressure cooker. She uses chicken and beef broth in a lot of her recipes and sometimes I just use water instead to cut back on the sodium.
Mary,
I think you have the wrong date on your entry today. When I saw it I was wondering if it was an old one. Just typed the wrong numbers I guess. I love your blog, and really don’t need anymore to read. I am going to check out Scrap Quyilt Enthusiasts, and scrappy is what I like to make. I do follow Jo’s Country Junction, as many of your followers do. I have too many projects I need to work on. I’m working on some Christmas lap quilts this morning as our quilting group meets today at church, and we need tops done so our “tiers” have something to do.
Have a wonderful day. I love your barn picture. Your barn makes the most beautiful pictures. I also enjoyed all the fall decorations. I am getting lazy and don’t want to do much in seasonal decorarating. I just put a table runner on the dining room table with some pumpkins and scarecrows, and that’s about it!
Jeanine – TYPO! But I wonder why WordPress didn’t catch it
I have always loved your barn!
Vicki- so glad your Moh’s went well. I’ve had so many of those, I’ve lost count!
I went to see my sister in Denver last week, and while I was gone, the cleaning lady came. SO nice to come home to a clean house!
Had a really nice time visiting family, and I love Colorado, but there’s no place like home. I missed my hubby and my grands.
I follow a Facebook page called Scrap Quilt Enthusiasts. Such variety and inspiration.
Looking forward to cooler, fall weather next week!
Diana – I follow that group, too! I feel like you this morning – so nice to get up to a clean house!
Good morning! I always love the pictures of your barn and porch – two things I would like to have😊. I also enjoy seeing your dogs in the wooded area. They sure have fun out there!
Hazel is quite the digger! Love all the pictures!
There are several YouTube channels that I enjoy watching along with Kate at The Last Homely House.
Cathy Martin at The Catbird Quilts-she is so funny and informative!
Olesya & House and Village Forest House. These two are husband and wife in Belarus. You have to use closed caption but they are very relaxing and interesting-maybe it is the background music, but I turn the sound way down.
Food Around the World. I watch the stories of Maria-alone on a mountain and Katya-lives with the 90 year old grandmother-both in the Ukraine. No closed caption but interesting. They seem to love fatback-even eating it uncooked apparently!
Debbie – oh, wow – I can’t wait to check these out. I do know The Last Homely House.
Jeanie S, your displays are just adorable. Cute cute cute!
Sam and Keeper have their mutual admiration society going strong. Hard to tell who is happier. The grin on Keeper’s face is contagious.
Oh, that Hazel is a card and what a cute little butt you have planted in your garden. Mary!
The barn picture is stunning not spooky at all. Pure Americana.
I’ve finally finished my quilt top, have the binding made and the backing ironed. Just need to get it loaded on the frame and quilted. That’s my project for today.
Have fun today everyone
Pat in AZ
You can see the love and devotion on Sam’s face while she hugs Keeper. Facial expressions say so much about a person. Her kind spirit is what carries her through a not so easy job of being a teacher. Yesterday I hugged a teacher as she put her arms out wide when she saw me walking towards her and I knew that’s what she needed so much.
Love the barn picture. What could be more Americana🇺🇸
SW Ohio is in a big drought. So dry w/ no rain in sight. Field crops are drying up.
Need to make 6 blocks for a block exchange but not inspired to do so. Time is running out⏰.
Marcia – I’ll be your push today – gather your fabrics and start cutting – the hardest part is starting!
Absolutely love her picture of the barn! And Hazel is definitely a terrier! 🤣
There are many blogs i enjoy – one especially is:
Sister’s Choice Quilts
Wyseguide.com
The Last Homely House is my favorite. Kate is in the UK. After watching her I feel I can relax about how I do things and wear what I want! I love that she wears dresses with pants underneath. Her videos are very calming and I need that now.
The barn pictures are beautiful! The colors are so vibrant and the lighting makes all the colors shine.
I had Mohs surgery yesterday to remove some skin cancer on my face. The surgery was originally scheduled for 9/27. I got a call about 9 a.m. saying they had a cancellation yesterday and they wondered if I could come in yesterday in an hour. So, I rearranged my day and had it done. Not a bad procedure at all. Just lots of sit and wait time as the tissue they removed got looked at to see if they got all the cancer cells. After 5 hours at the hospital, I was so glad I had taken table runners for binding as I sat and waited. I went home after surgery and mowed our lawn with the riding mower. Today, I am taking it easy. Saying that, I know I will think of something to do. But the porch swing is in my future today. I sit and drink a cola as I enjoy the day.
Seeing Hazel reminds me that I don’t want a terrier. We have a small barn and there is usually a woodchuck or a skunk that goes under it. I’m sure there are burrows and I would be afraid the dog would fall down a hole. It would scare me. I love your barn, even with the lights!
Shirley – a reader warned me years ago when I said I wanted a terrier and she was right! Haha! But I wouldn’t trade her for anything – she’s very lazy all morning and sleeps in her dog bed and about 5:00 she comes alive! Like a baby who wants to sleep all day and be awake and fussy all night! Hard to parent that personality
Vicki – even tho it was a long sit arent you glad that’s over? I wish they’d call me from Mayo to come in earlier!!
I am so glad! It would be nice if you could have surgery earlier. Do they know you would be willing to come in earlier if there were a cancellation? It is worth a try, though I know you appreciate the chance to get your fall work done before surgery.
what a nice variety of lovely Autumn items.

Actually there are quite a few interesting and great info.

Brenda – I’m going to check these out, too – as if I need to spend more time on my IPad – ha!!
I think the barn picture is really good. At first I thought it was backlit by lights and then realize it was the moon back lighting it. What a great picture. It was only when I read that you left the lights on that I noticed that.
Teresa – and if you look at the barn picture with the lights on you can see the rafters – so few of these barns left – I’m so glad I restored mine when I did.
I had to go back to find the bear on the tree. Yes, that limb does look like a baby bear.
One of my favorite web sites is This Old House….they get a lot done in 30 minutes!!!
Such lovely eye candy today. Plus a laugh at Hazel’s antics and a shiver at the “eerie” barn. I love all the autumn decor. Gives me hope that cooler weather really IS on its way here. 🙂 Because of the drought and the unusually high temps this summer, we have been raking leaves beginning in late June. All summer, you might say. The tomatoes were lacking in flavor. yada-yada. Looking forward to rainy, cool days. Crisp apples. Pumpkin Pie. The garden put to bed. Love the change of seasons. Blessings all!
Hi Mary, yes,it does look like a little bear behind the tree, but if it was, l think Hazel would have caught the scent!
A website l enjoy is the last homely house ,Kate is an older woman with 3 cats and a goose on a property in rural England. She is a quilter, spinner etc,and has an amazing collection of fabric, it’s very relaxing to watch her.
I love the photo of your feet on hank! Dogs are the best company! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sue in OR, if you zoom in the pic you will be able to see it is a limb from a tree. I agree, it looks like a small bear.
The Barn is outstanding. Thanks for sharing country living with all of us.
Besides quilting, I love to cook and one of my favorite websites is Betty Crocker: https://www.bettycrocker.com/
There are so many good recipes and such variety you just can’t fail to find something to make when you’re out of ideas.
Love the barn picture! What is that tree or bush that seems to be overtaking your stairs?
Sue – that out of control vine is bittersweet BUT I’ve since learned that you need both a male and a female plant to have those gorgeous berries that are so expensive at flea markets. I evidently don’t have but one of the two. When we were using the haymow regularly we kept it trimmed completely off the railing – now we just got lazy and let it grow.
They actually have a newer variety of bittersweet that is both male and female, so you don’t need the two different vines.
Great barn photo!
Lori – I wish I had that vine instead of the out of control one I do have! This one has been here many years.
Yes…very eerie but beautiful. The barn looks gorgeous at night with or without the moon. It is the moon, right? Another strange thing in one of your photos is what looks like a little bear behind the tree directly behind the dogs in the woods. It is spying on the dogs as though it would like to play OR it is my wild imagination playing tricks with me. Did you know it was there?
Jeannie, I love your little fall quilts.
Going to bed now so that I can read The Wife. Oh, my. Getting into the good part now.
Sue – yes, it’s a very full moon! What you think looks like a little bear is actually a downed limb in shadows.
