If I don’t answer the questions right away I lose track, so here goes.

The table topper will not be a pattern. Here are the sizes and a picture:

2-1/2” squares

4-1/2” squares

Any 6” block of any kind in the corners

I’ve had this egg for years and years and I have no history on it. It’s quite heavy.

Clifford’s ear is back on and he’s heading to the laundry
Tanya – thank you for this booklet!
Old can on right, new can on left!!!!
Diane – I love your card!

Thanks to all for cards and gifts. Patti P. – I want you to know that Rick got your box from our mailbox last week while he was driving my van and that’s where it stayed until today when Becky came by and she drove us to McDonalds. There was your box! In my van! Thank you for all those wonderful goodies and your nice letter. It was so interesting I gave it to Rick to read.

I’m going to remember Terri’s card because she enclosed a book of stamps! What a great and easy gift to include in a card so I’m going to buy some books of stamps just for that reason.

Too good not to post again! Hahaha!!!!

P.S. I think someone else sent me this picture – it resembles FluffyBun but I don’t think it is. She looks a little different and I think I just kept this photo because it looked so much like her. Haha! Cut me some slack – I get a lot of pictures!!!!

Greta in the box

Am I caught up????? Time for a glass of wine.

I went on an internet scavenger hunt for your egg. Google lens had several hits on eggs just like yours on Ebay and Etsy. They were described as “Rare Vintage Egg” or “Vintage Steampunk Egg,” but no definite origin or source was given. It looks like others are just as puzzled as you are about the egg’s history. They sold for $28 to $34.I sure was hoping to solve the mystery! Thanks for the details about your table topper. I see one in my near future.

Donna T – and the sad thing is I don’t remember where I got it. I’ve had it for so many years! Thanks for your effort.

  2. Teresa from Port Coquitlam, BC

Thanks for all the pictures to enjoy. I have a question about the egg – does it open? It is so interesting.

Thank so much for the table topper directions. I love this kind of project.
That picture of Becky and Hazel is just so cute.
We had probably two inches of snow today. It was beautiful with great big flakes.
    Stay Safe & Warm, 🥰

We had some fluffy snow today. Enough to make the driveway white. It’s a cold winter day. Never got above 10*
It was a good day to stay tucked inside.

Joy – I am so thankful for my heated barn! When I go in my chickens are happy and warm – I hate doing chores on bitter days like this.

  5. Tanya T. In Houston

You are so welcome! Happy Holidays!

Tell Becky we’ve think she is beautiful. That’s what sisters are for: to post not the most flattering photos, right? And, Hazel’s eye is totally worth it!!

Whoever did those CUTE little mats or runners or whatever, are they a pattern?? Look sort of like Mini Brick Road which I love.

  6. Jacque

The egg might be a darning egg, stuck in the toe of a sock, to darn the hole. Or it might be a fancy egg!!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jacque – it’s not completely smooth so I don’t think it’s a darning egg – the thread would get caught on the edges.

  7. Beryl BC

The red and white piece on the chair by the piano is beautiful.
Our striped cat could be the one in the box. He and Greta have some things in common.
I do remember you mentioning your path results in a comment, not as much detail as in the recent post. Either way, it’s good news.
We got a tiny bit of snow yesterday and in the night in SW Ohio. They must have gotten more just northeast of us as several schools are closed in the next county. We’re expecting a high in mid 20’s, it is sunny now.

Thanks for showing a picture of the metal egg. It is so pretty and unique. I was so sure it was going to be a needle case. I really enjoy your videos. Beautiful music and pretty things to look at. It is seven degrees out right now. I just got in from feeding my horses. Luckily no wind. I’m north of Cedar Rapids Ia.

Marie C, this is Rita in Iowa and I live just a mile for Stone City. Used to work as a paraeducator at Linn Mar.

I agree that picture of Becky and Hazel is priceless not to repeat and share again. It could go on a groomers wall for all to see and chuckle over doing just that with their dogs at some time.
Schools are closed that are about 20 minutes from us so we sure are in the good zone of not getting any of the snow bands that came across the lake. It’s a brilliant white snow bed on our lawns of two inches maybe. Sun is shining so helps roads but wind and cold are here. We have stockings for Christmas morning and quilts to deliver today to our local homeless vets shelter. If one chooses to go back out on the streets to live for any number of reasons which is their choice, I keep thinking in the back of my mind that I hope the quilt given will be packed to go with them. I’m so proud of a local small senior center that I volunteer at weekly has finished up for the year and completed 199 quilts that were distributed to needy people and deserving groups.

    1. patti

kathy, good job on finishing 199 quilts for the needy. that is tremendous. i agree with you about if the folks decide to go back out on the street, let them take their quilt with them. there are some in my group who feel strongly against that. i feel like people still need to be warm and you don’t give something and take it back. once given, it is the owner’s choice. big pat on the back to your group. patti in florida

      1. Kathy in NY

Thank you Patti for your kind words of praise for our small senior quilters group accomplishing so much. The quilts are all donated fabrics and scraps sewn from 6” blocks. The backings can sometimes be sheets donated. I love chatting with the ladies who tie them as it’s their social outing and believe in a worthy cause. No questions asked, no judgement, and empathy for those less fortunate than ourselves has binded this group together for 20+ years.

Wonderful pictures. Love your posts. Happy to hear that the cancer was contained and you can get back to your healthy, happy self soon! I am definitely with you on the glass of wine, or two……..!
Thank you so much for this blog!!

Great answers today, thank you Mary & all for the pictures!
P.S. My granddaughter Charli is back on the basketball court doing better than ever for her senior year!!!

Joyce – I think you should report regularly about CHARLI – I’d love to hear about her games, points, stats, etc.

Mary, Thank you for the directions for the table topper. It is simple and people can make it their design choice. I certainly am enjoying everyone’s Christmas quilts and decor. The pet pictures make me smile. Have a good day, everyone. To be a high of 16 degrees today with a wind chill much colder. Of course, today is when I have to be outside for appointments/errands. Oh, well. It is winter in Iowa.

Mary, I love the ” fake news” on Fluffybun! I’d never keep everything straight on my computer either.

I’ve decided I don’t like English Paper Piecing – too tiny stitches. Instead I’m back to hand-piecing quilt blocks, just a few once in a while, it’s a nice TV project. The patterns for hand-piecing are hard to find. I’m doing a “spool” i found in an old magazine. I’m struggling with too many “things” in my life, just trying so hard to steam line our life and make everything simple. I’m thankful for all I have especially my wonderful husband. We are both “makers”. He’s an artist and printer, me a quilter and crochet. I find it really hard to have only one project going. Colder here in Colorado and we had 5 new Anderson windows installed yesterday – so cold in the house and I had to hide out in the basement with my kitty. She did not want to be locked in a room all day so she climbed on everything! I love hearing from all of you who are seniors, it’s very comforting.

    1. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Love hearing you got new windows! Hope it helps with the warmth. I too like to do hand crafts. Been knitting some 7″ squares for an afghan. It helps relax me while I watch football. Enjoy what you can do while you can. That’s my motto! I think of Grandma Moses. She didn’t start painting until she was in her seventies!

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Linda c – new windows, especially Andersen windows, will be one of the best investments in your home that you’ll ever make. Every window in my house is Andersen and when we added the front room and piano room, we added 20 new double hung windows. It’s my favorite part of my house.

Hi Mary, Hazel looks as though she is ready for a duet with you! I enjoy the dogs on Facebook that sing along with their owners. A busy day, made a double batch of lemon biscuits, some for neighbour’s who gave me the 🍋 lemons and for the family, takes a while with just the little oven, but good results. I have wrapped the bits and pieces for the girls Christmas gifts, just little things as they are getting a trip back to Taiwan, so quiet January, tidying out my granny flat. Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

Hazel stink eye is worth seeing again, glad she isn’t looking at me, haha. I use that Faultless spray, but I haven’t seen the new smaller cans, what a shame. I have a few cans in my quilting stash, hope they last a long time. Need to whip up 2 batches of roll out cookies tomorrow, hope to bake them this weekend.
