Card Shower, 9-7-25

I loved this joke so much I’m posting it first!

A motorcycle mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a BMW M3 when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop.

The cardiologist was there waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his car when the mechanic shouted across the garage, “Hey Doc, want to take a look at this?”

The cardiologist, a bit surprised walked over to where the mechanic was working on the motorcycle.

The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, “So Doc, look at this engine. I opened its heart, took the valves out, repaired or replaced anything damaged, and then put everything back in, and when I finished, it worked just like new. So how is that I make $44,000 a year and you make $1.7M when you and I are doing basically the same work?”

The cardiologist paused, leaned over, and then whispered to the mechanic…..

“Try doing it with the engine running.”

Betty Lam received 130 cards for her 99th birthday!!! Way to go, Readers!!! Look how happy she is!

Can you find the card you sent?
Pamela’s garden produce
Cynthia’s insecticides – mine, too

From Teresa, quilt show in Andersen, Indiana

A reader asked if I had ever found a chair I liked and I showed her my solution – a memory foam seat pillow.

To any of you readers who have had recent surgeries, sicknesses or events that we’ve talked about here on the blog, please update us when you can.

Sounds like summer weather is returning to the Midwest this week – enjoy it while we can!

Mary, thinking of you and hoping you’re doing well.
It is a nice quilt show you shared on your blog.

  3. Pamela Papazidis

What a lot of cards for Betty. Hope it helped to make her day a special one. The quilts are wonderful, inspiring. Beryl received 51 cards today and she can’t believe that we do this. And it isn’t even her birth day yet. I just finished reading “Where The Sky Begins” by Rhys Bowen. A book sent by my cousin to my mother because it starts out in London during the Blitz and the main character was evacuated too, although she was an adult and mom was only a child. But is leading to more questions for Mom and she is such a wealth of memories and stories. By the way, she is feeling better than she was on Friday.

Pamela. -I’m so glad she’s feeling better. If other readers are like me, I need to send the card when I think of it or else I’ll forget!! A card just makes you feel good, doesn’t it?

      1. Teresa, soon to be from Maple Ridge, BC

Yes it does, I couldn’t believe when I mailed it how it made me feel. It is really worth sending them I now know.

I am so glad Betty enjoyed her card shower, nice photos.
Thank you Teresa for taking pictures at the Anderson IN quilt show; the quilts are amazing!
I hope you are doing okay, Mary 🥰

Enjoyed all the quilts, especially the pumpkin/ladybug runner or wall hanging. Fall colors are my favorite. So happy for all the cards Betty received. I don’t even remember what card I sent as I have sent several.
Update on my eye from infection after eye lid lift surgery back on February 27. My eye is almost back to normal. It is a bit swollen and red in the morning, but gradually goes down during the day. I think I had four steroid shots around my eye to help with the scar tissue that developed after the surgery. That did help the swelling to go down. I went back to my eye doctor, and my eye sight is good in that eye for which I am very grateful.
The 80’s are coming back to southern Iowa this week. I really don’t mind the warmer weather.

Jeanine – I had that eyelid lift quite a number of years ago and the whole side of my face turned black. How about you. I hope it’s ll resolved now and thank God you have your eyesight.

Yes, I see the card I sent.

Lovely quilts, but my favorite is My Garden with the pumpkins, flowers, and ladybug.

My husband and I had our flu shots yesterday. I get achy. Going to sit and read for a bit.

Reading The Last Life Boat by Hazel Gaynor. WW2 story.

Spectacular quilts from the quilt show! The joke punchline was perfect. Linda, I couldn’t spot my card in Betty’s picture either. So many different card designs, though. Wow!
Mary, prayers for surgery and your recovery at the hospital. Your blog audience will look forward to hearing from you , when yo feel up to it.

I am not sure what cracked me up more, the joke, or the insecticide image. Great post today. I see a quick jaunt for me in the future. Baby goats will arrive early November. Cannot wait.

Wow, Betty received so many cards, that’s wonderful. Very nice quilt show Teresa went to. I’ve been catching up on the blog, didn’t read it for a few days. I’ve started packing up stuff we’ve unpacked at my mom’s. Friday is moving day. Mary I finally got a current picture of my MIL will send it to you with her address today. Fall is definitely in the air, the nights are cooling off nicely. . Thankful the smoke is gone, it was really hard to breathe for a few days last week, we couldn’t see the mountains and the sunrise was very red through the smoke.
    Have a wonderful day everyone.

Great joke! Great quilts – I’m inspired! Now to find some time – I need all the glitches to give me a break for a while!!! (Technology is great when it works, time-consuming when it doesn’t…)

Hello Mary and readers! Our move to Colorado is complete. My husband and grandson flew here August 27th, our cat, Noah, and I arrived August 30th. After dropping them off at the airport at 5:30am, Noah, and I started the drive here. I didn’t even make it out of the state of Florida the first day! I was so tired and sore from all the packing, we made it to Pensacola, FL and called it good enough. Each day we left at sunrise and I drove until I had enough. Noah was an AMAZING travel partner. He didn’t make a sound the entire drive. I would make pit stops and let him out to use the litter box or get food/water and he’d go right back in his carrier. I’m now trying to fiigure out where everything is going to live. this house is bigger square footage wise, but smaller rooms. It’s amazing to be here and u know I’ll really love it when im all unpacked.

          1. Jessica in Colorado

It’s definitely exciting…and frustrating! I unpacked all the kitchen items and then opened EVERY cabinet trying to find the pots and pans! It’s going to take a bit for me to figure out where everything is.

  12. Fran Dixon

Love all ten quilts from the show. I would make every one of them

And the cards for Betty–what an awesome show! Love it.

  13. Linda in Saginaw Michigan

*Oh baby it’s chilly outside! 36 on my outdoor thermometer. but they are saying should get near 70 this afternoon. I had to run the truck for a bit before taking the trash to the road because the windshield was covered with foggy dew- I guess that is what it was, couldn’t see out untile the defroster cleared the inside and outside. We should warm up by the weekend, they are predicting 80 and rain Saturday.

I am excited, I am going to a three day class on long arm quilting with one day devoted to the computerized system like I have on my machine. It is in Lansing, a bit over an hour from me so I have to trust my husband will take care of the animals, especially Minnie. He’s not to reliable, he normally sleeps all day and stays up all night and I am feeding her breakfast, lunch, mid-day, supper and before bed. I will call him at least 3 times a day to remind him – if he hears his phone and answers. I’m already worried because with travel I will be gone from 9 am to 6 pm or later so he must feed all the animals supper.

Minnie has finally wound down after breakfast. She stuffs herself and then is wound up for close to an hour before she passes out again. After she ate this morning she weighed 18 ounces! Finally over a pound. Her little tummy swells up like a balloon about to pop after she eats because she normally finishes a meal if I let it sit a while. She is growing, her legs look longer but she doesn’t seem bigger by length. I will send some up to date pictures.

Blessings to all. Love seeing all the cards Betty received. I couldn’t spot mine in all of those cards!

      Linda,
You take me back to learning again. Best way to spend three days. Met the most talented women two of whom traveled from Canada. Do you have a few quilt tops lined up once training is complete? My friend advised me to do eleven quickly to cement all I had learned.
