Cards For Pam, 7-24-26

Yup, we’re going to shower Pam with cards!

Pam Kerns

490 W. Lyons St.

Garner, IA 50438

When we were having quilt camps Pam took in boarders at her farm – one of them just wrote to me to say how much she had enjoyed it. Pam was a fabulous cook but of course never had a recipe to share with us – it was all in her head. I do have a recipe card in her handwriting for John Elway Burritos.

And now here are the Pam cards I have for sale.

6 cards with envelopes for $5.00 including postage

Let me keep this simple and put the price at $5.00 for 6 assorted cards with envelopes mailed to you. One mailing per reader at this time. Now what am I going to do if you all order cards and I run out in the first week? Then what????

Back On the Farm Quilt by McKenna Ryan. I remember it took me the entire summer to make it but I’ve never regretted it. I love this quilt!

Thank you for sending a card to Pam at the care center – she loves animals especially dogs and horses, flowers and the country life.

    Mary,
That is a beautiful farm quilt! I love it.
Mortie is a smile every day for us. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
I know I’m reading this a few days late but hope you see the response. Went to a graduation party yesterday. Real fun time and terrific food. Getting tomatoes every day now and they are so good!
Prepared a card for Pam and have it ready to mail tomorrow. Take care! 🌻

Oh how fun….a card shower for Pam. I have the perfect card I’m going to send to her. I was outside early to get some yard work done before the heat sets in. I will be sewing in the A/C. Love Mortie , I think she’s going to get in trouble just like Hazel. All your critters are great. Did you get the pond all filled in? Enjoy your day and keep cool.

Becky – I’m waiting on Casey to drain the pond first and then we will wait to see how much water collects in the bottom – its the natural water flow but it also goes north in a waterway.

  3. Jeanine from SE Iowa

My card to Pam is in the mail today as is my $5 for the Pam cards. Thank you.
It was hazy and no wind here this morning so we were able to burn trash from the new house project.
The farm quilt is precious and I know it was a lot of work. I have done applique before and it takes a lot of time.
Not looking forward to 90 degree plus days coming our way this weekend into Monday.

This heat and humidity! Not liking it.

Sending out two cards today. Been putting it off. My youngest daughter’s birthday today. I sent a box to her to Arkansas on Monday July 13. She still does not have it. I should have driven it myself.

Take care of the animals and yourself with this next heat wave, Mary. I dread our drive down Monday to Kansas City Retreat (Smithville, MO). Glad I am not driving.

Fran – what has happened to the mail service – it takes forever! At least you’ll sew in AC so enjoy!!

Mortie looks like she had a blast! I hope she let you clean her up ok. The last picture of Pammie is beautiful 😻! I will send my money for the cards and a card to Pam on Monday 🥰
I have the pattern for the Back on the farm quilt and want to make it. Did you do the fusible appliqué and stitch around it or just let the quilting hold it down? Yours turned out awesome! Hugs ❤️

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Pamela – I actually quilted it in sections – there’s no way I’m good enough to stitch around each piece. Quilted with a crosshatch design and I never fold it. I roll it on a large plastic pipe that’s covered with batting. The patterns are now very expensive – I regret selling mine real cheap.

        1. Mary Etherington Post author

Pamela – oh, I guess not / I would never make it again. Have you made it?

          1. Pamela Dempsey in Northeast Texas 😻

No, I love it and collected all the patterns separately. Still on my list! McKenna has such awesome patterns.
Did the Mortie solar light work?

          2. Mary Etherington Post author

Pamela – YES! And I keep forgetting to take a picture after dark – with this reminder maybe I can remember – it’s so cute!

  6. Kathy in western NY

OMG I burst out laughing over Mortie’s paws! I can only imagine the shenanigans between Keeper so happy with his toy and Mortie hunting and Hazel thinking WTH?
I’ve never done a McKenna Ryan quilt so give you lots of credit for accomplishing that quilt. It’s beautiful.
I’m happy to send a card to Pam and with all the farm markets around us who also sell goodies I will now look for a special farm related one to make it special.

  7. Cynthia in Minnesota

Good day, Mary! It is 70* this morning, so pleasant outside! I hope it is this nice all day. It is supposed to get into the 90’s at some point. I will send you $ for the Pammie cards as well. I am not sure just what I will do today, my gardens are all weeded and watered, so maybe I will bake something. I am reading a book called The Girls in Building C by Mary Krugerud about a girl who had to go to a tuberculosis hospital in the 1940’s. She was healed and got to go home, but not everyone did. It is kind of a journal about her life there. The last book I read was the correspondent. Still on the waiting list for Theo of Golden..#2 so soon zi can check it out. Not much happening here. It is a very quiet morning here, no vehicle noise even from the highway a block away. Have a good day and keep cool.

Cynthia – nice in the porch this morning but I can feel it heating up. My outside work is pretty much caught up, too, so I can sew this afternoon in the AC. Michele is picking up quilts for the fair next week and Hank will be spending time with us while she handles the quilt show.

Boy did Mortie have a cleanup job after frog hunting!!!!!! Was the sleeping photo taken after she had cleaned up? I guess you should love that quilt of McKenna Ryan’s…..it is wonderful! You did a beautiful job of it. Her quilt patterns were so great. I never tried one but I always admired them.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Carol – yup! Mortie cleaned herself up and fell asleep in that awkward position.

  10. Sandy McPherson

Hi Mary, very cold in nz today, some places getting snow, skiers will be happy! Went to quilt meeting, my friend had a fall as she arrived, so she has been taken to hospital. Keeper and Molly have a good life and I think morty is going to get into mischief like Hazel! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sandy – I hope your friend is ok!!! I love hearing that it’s cold and snowy there and we are enjoying summer!! When you say very cold, what is the temp in F?
