Did anyone see the women’s kayaking? The three kayaks dropped from above into the churning water, going around different markers, not taking either hand off the paddle, running into the other kayaks – I was almost afraid to watch!
Here is Lynette’s address. I can tell she is strong and confident but our cards could give her a boost.

Chemotherapy is hard enough but she recently lost her adult son. I am so sorry for your loss, Linette!
Does anyone remember this pattern? Was it 4 separate patterns or were they all included in one pattern? I can’t find it and I knew you’d be interested if I posted this photo from a reader. I’ll make it available IF I can find the pattern.

I went to visit Hank this afternoon – here he is with his mom. He’s still so sweet – just a larger size sweet!

Linda in NC is also dealing with loss – her husband of 53 years passed away last week after a bowel blockage, a heart attack and a ruptured appendix. Her three daughters are helping her cope and get used to life without him. Your address, Linda?
I just watched Noah Lyles win gold in the 100 meter race – an unbelievable finish. Aren’t the Olympics just amazing? One more week to watch and then I’ll have Olympics withdrawal …. Only until The Fever starts playing again.

Mary, I do hope you get news today. It’s been too long. What a cute haircut you have.
That scrap quilt with orphan blocks, strips, blocks, etc is spectacular! What a collection of fabric.
Hank is an adorable puppy. He no longer looks like a puppy, but I’m sure he acts like one..
To Linda and Linette, take each minute as it comes. If you need to cry…cry.
This is some of the toughest times you will ever go through. They say it gets better, well, I hope so.
If you get a chance to laugh, embrace it and enjoy it. Remember, there are a ton of friends on this blog that care for you. You are not alone.
Hello Everyone. The quilt top on my design wall was begun in 2007. Patti, who created the blog, Quilting is Still My Passion, had a tutorial on “crumb piecing”, also known as potato chip piecing. I kept units of sewn pieces in a container and worked on it from time to time. This year, as I consolidated, pieces, blocks, sections, and triangle units, many things were shifted over to the crumb piecing bin.
Some things I learned from doing this quilt were to only work on a unit that can be trimmed with your largest ruler. Do not throw on a long strip along the edge just to make it the right size. Add a unit with small pieces sewn together.
Always, add more lights and brights to balance out all of the darks.
Have fun. I loved every minute of putting this top together. It measures roughly 80 x 90.
Thank you for your comments. It’s taken me many months to get my sewing room and it’s contents consolidated and cleaned.

Mary – So sorry for the recent losses for Linda and Linette. It is so hard and grief never goes away. We just learn to live with it. If I could give everyone a hug who is having medical issues and who has lost someone they love, I would. I’ve seen my share of it from last year when I lost my husband to the last few months when I lost my brother and 2 weeks later my brother-in-law. Last week my best friend lost her husband to cancer. 😢
The heat and smoke in eastern Washington where I now live has been awful. My great nephew and his wife and dogs had to evacuate their home due to the Rimrock Retreat Fire. Not sure when they get to return.
Love all the sewing room photos.
Hank has sure grown. He’s a very handsome dog!
Good luck at your doctor appointment, Mary. Will keep you in my thoughts. 🙏
Take care everyone.

Dog therapy. Nothing like it. So glad you were able to spend some time with Hank and his mom.
I love the pictures of Hank. He’s so big now. Sounds like a real sweetheart.
Sorry for loss, Linda. When it’s unexpected like that it’s a real shock! Sorry to hear this. You are in my prayers.
Mary, good luck with the MAYO. Hope you have answers soon.
Lynette and Linda so sorry for your loss. Love seeing Hank, he has become a handsome big puppy. He has grown into those big feet, lol. We are to get some rain today and its cooler weather for the rest of the week, its welcomed by me.
Another day of horrible high temps and then relief is coming. I hate not being able to be outside and to get a walk. But there is plenty to do inside. I finished up baby stuff for the great grand coming in Sept. Taking a reprieve from greatgrand baby sewing. Retreat Wed. through Sat. I am prepping for that.
Anxiously awaiting news on your health problem, Mary.
The Photos have been wonderful. Sometimes I can’t make a reply as there is no box. Just know I almost read every day and appreciate the photos and news.
Fran – always go online to read and go to the very bottom of the post to find the precious comments.
Hank has grown into quite a charming guy. It’s been fun seeing him grow.
Everyone’s sewing rooms have been so special to see and we love our stashes spread out, sorted by colors or folded or inside storage containers. We gotta do what works for the space we have and the way we sew. I do a little of everything and have 1 1/2” strips in so many containers out now that it’s driving me crazy that I need to finish up some log cabin blocks and clean up my scraps. Again. But I did a little online fabric shopping today so I’m not resisting what makes me happy.
My heart goes out to everyone who’s having some sad moments ahead as it’s a horrible feeling. Cards will help knowing they aren’t alone. Hopefully the blog gives a few moments of getting away from the sadness to bring some joy to the day. The pictures do bring us all good feelings.
My sympathy to Linda and Lynette. Losing our loved ones is so hard.
Hank is a beautiful beautiful dog! I’m so glad you were able to visit and get your Hank fix! He looks like a real lover!
Redoing the garage into a combined wood working and sewing area sounds interesting. Pictures please.
I love seeing all the sewing rooms. Each one has its own personality 💕
I just finished reading the Orphan Train series by Jody Hedlund. They were in the 1850s in New York and all the orphans. I loved them.
Well Mary, one more sleep and you will get some answers. Thinking of you! Safe travels!
I’m sending a second email. I wanted to mark notify me of new posts and forgot.
Sewing rooms are all interesting. My daughters want to help me organize my stuff. They bought some totes for me to start. But when fabric is lying where I can see, I see possibilities of how I can put colors together. If the fabric was sorted into colors I would not see that possibility.
Swimming was exciting last night, both men’s and women’s. I saw Nyles’ win. I found info after the race interesting. He is a slow starter and was in last place at the 40 meter mark. The heat sense picture as he crosses the finish line definitely showed that Nyles had won. What controversy there were have been without todays’s technology.
I missed the kayakers. Sounds like I would have been on the edge of my chair for that also.
Judy – you and I think alike – I don’t want my fabric all sorted and folded – I like laying different combos out so I can study them, adding in others as a trial before I start cutting. I have several combos laid out now waiting for me to decide. I heard those same stats about Nyles’ win – it was very exciting!!
Wow what a scrappy quilt. Love it. Will get a card in the mail to Linette. Prayers for her and Linda. Can’t imagine what they are going through right now. Read where you were back playing in church Mary! You look great in the picture with Hank. Love seeing the sewing rooms. My mom never had a sewing room, always sewed at our kitchen table.
Donna Jo – thanks – to look at me you’d never guess I was “sick”! Felt great to see my church family again.
Linda in NC and Linette, you have my deepest sympathy {{ hugs }} I cannot imagine such grief and all that comes with that. I pray that you find some comfort.
Yesterday, I was so impressed with the “design bed” instead of a “design wall” in the sewing room with blue walls. That’s a great idea! Now I am wanting to make an incredible scrappy quilt like this one; as I look at the details, my favorite is the green house with the jack-o-lantern roof and next to it the cottage with the beach view through the door! Just wonderful!
And Hank! What a fine boy you have grown into! So gorgeous — and with a brave Mom who has a WHITE sofa. I would worry and worry until the first stain happened LOL
Susan – oh, Hank has been trained to avoid that white couch at all costs! Haha!!! Michele did say that when she picked it out she had no idea she’d have a young pup in the house but Hank is a smart cookie. I hadn’t seen him for so long I was afraid he might have forgotten me.
Susan,
The off white sofa is a problem……we purchased it after we lost Beamer and before we got Hank. I don’t know what I was thinking, but we were between dogs and I wasn’t thinking. By the time the sofa was delivered we had Hank. He stays off of it, unless we have company sitting on it. And, really he shouldn’t be jumping up on visitors anyway, so it’s working out. In the end, it’s a piece of furniture, not a keepsake. It’s not a matter of ‘if’ it gets dirty. It’s a matter of ‘when’. And we will deal with it at that point. With that said, as soon as Hanks sees me sit down, he wants to jump up in the chair with me. So at least once (or twice) a day he’s sitting on top of my lap in the chair getting some loving that is until he gets hot. Then he has to jump down. Hank is a very sweet boy and he loves his Mary. 🙂
Oh I’m laughing thinking of Hank jumping up into the chair with you!
He still thinks he is the little puppy. So sweet. We too have a white couch we inherited from our in-laws. NO ONE in the family wanted it in their home so we stuck it in our sunroom and I put a quilt on it every season. Our 2 dogs jump up on it as they can look out the back yard from it to see where we are and then go to sleep on it. I don’t care either as it’s not my style but with a quilt, it is cozy. One family member said just order a blue nautical slip cover for it to use in the sunroom but I never did as I love seeing my quilts on it that are being used and loved now in my lifetime.
Kathy – before we got married I hate gorgeous white furniture and I made seasonal quilts for all the pieces. Then I married a farmer with dirty clothes and shoes and I had to see the furniture. I still look at pictures of it and just love it.
Kathy – I’m so tired of auto correct!!! It thinks it can spell what I’m thinking!
Ha ha ! I figured it out Mary…it’s like shorthand some days figuring out what auto correct does to us. I have no desire to buy new furniture so I will keep using my old stuff. I don’t help the economy by hanging onto it.
* raising hand *
I know that one!!! It’s “How to Quilt” pattern # 585 from 2007
I’m terrible at trivia games, but I know a lot of quilt patterns LOL
Susan – really??? I’m going to go find it right now – the title does make sense, doesn’t it, but I searched and didn’t come up with that – oh, thank you! Now if I can find it I’ll make it available to all the readers.
Lynette and Linda so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are with you both. Losses are never easy.
The sewing rooms are a delight to see. Amazing how we all make do with what we have room for. I really like the improv style quilt.
Hank is getting so big and is lucky to have a great home.
Worked yesterday on pulling a leftover project to see what I can make out of it. So far fabric cut for 50 nine patches at 3.5 inches. It’s Fons & Porter fabric, Savannah. Can anyone relate to the age of the fabrics. Will keep you posted on the progress.
Today Hubby has a wellness check appt. and errands in town day.
Thank you for the picture of Hank and his Mom. He has grown a lot since we last saw him. He is such a beautiful dog; I’m sure he gets a lot of lovin’ from his Mom and Dad. The forest fires near us in Colorado are now 54 percent contained. 9668 acres burned, 26 homes destroyed, and 4 others damaged badly. We are thankful that winds this week have been blowing westward toward the areas in the mtns. that had already burned in fires a couple of years ago instead of toward Loveland. Praise God. But, we are leaving our suitcases packed and the rest of our valuables in piles in the living room just in case the winds shift and fires again head in our direction. This has been too close for comfort. Rain is predicted for later in the week and should help clear the smoke and ashes from the air. Thank you all for your prayers. Mary, we are praying your appt. at Mayo goes well and you will finally get some answers.
Hank is quite a tank. Lol! He looks like a good natured dog. The quilt and sewing room is fantastic-I would love a space like that!
linda, i am so sorry for your loss (i must have missed that in the note). i hope your daughters help you cope through this. these losses just shake us to our core. patti in florida
olympics – i think alot of us will be in withdrawals. i don’t usually watch the summer ones but have loved every bit of this one. missed the lady kayakers. saw lyles win the gold. was exhilarating. lots of surprises, along with some disappointments. overall a fantastic experience for american athletes.
i didn’t recognize the four individual patterns. interesting. that truly large scrappy quilt layout at the beginning of the note is fabulous! just amazing. i love it. has a feel of a jen kingwell quilt. i haven’t made one like that yet. it is wonderful and right down my alley. congrats. someone must be rearranging. i see empty shelves. wouldn’t last long at my house.
oh hank, you are growing up so fast! he’s losing his baby puppy face and looks so grown up now. so much bigger also. still a sweetheart.
linette, i’m so sorry for your loss. i pray that your memories will help sustain you thru this loss.
mary, you must be eager to go to your appointment. try not to be too disappointed if you don’t get immediate answers. that usually happens to me. just told mr. ed i have to be up by 6:30 in order to leave early enough for my back doc appointment. i’m almost ready to stay up all night. i’m not usually up before 9 or 10. i did tell mr. ed that the back spasms have come back this afternoon. i wish they could find out what is causing this. i am taking a copy of my last ct scan with me. maybe it will save time or $$. don’t want the spasms all night but do want them there when i’m at the doc. maybe it will help.
truly hoping to stitch tomorrow. have a heart doc appt at 4 pm so maybe i’ll just nap off and on. hugs to all, patti in florida
Patti in Fl – have you ever tried a chiropractor for those back spasms? Just a thought, couldn’t hurt and my chiropractor has helped me more than any doctor.
Yes to a chiropractor! My chiropractor keeps the back issues at bay and helped me so much when my back was at its worst. I go now every 4 weeks and am as normal as I’ll be. The chiropractor treats the issue and not just the symptoms. I did need surgery to remove the bone spur but being in alignment keeps the muscle spasms away. Just be sure it’s a gentle alignment and not a twist and jerk.
Susan – thanks for the agreement – sometimes I almost crawl into his office and skip out! Mine is a walk in operation so I don’t have to wait 10 days like my old chiro. How stupid to make an appointment even 3 days down the road! I love my chiropractor!
I’m sad to hear the news of loved ones passing. My prayers for comfort for Linette and Linda.
Hank is a beautiful boy. What a great companion he must be. I’m glad you got to visit.
The Olympics are a great excuse to do nothing. I’ve seen so many events I can’t remember sometimes who played who. Watching men’s gymnastics on the rings. When they do those iron crosses you can see all the distinct muscle fibers displayed in their shoulders. That strength is amazing. So many amazing performances in all the sports. On Noah Whyles win,, it’s a good thing they have cameras to catch those photo finishes.
The garage that’s under construction , I will be very interested to see complete. I bet it will be great.
Prayers Mary.

I love seeing everyone’s sewing rooms. I find myself studying all the details of each one – how they are set up, types of sewing machines, fabric storage, size of your rooms, where they are located, etc. Some of you even have longarms! Every room is so different, yet they all produce quilts. Thanks for sharing your photos.
Condolences to Lynette and Lynda. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
The pictures of sewing rooms could not be more timely for me. Yesterday you saw the picture of my “raw” craft room. We are converting our garage into a studio for me and a workshop for my husband. He is painting it now. I will send more pictures when it’s done. Maybe I’ll share some before and afters!
Colleen – yes, please do send befores and afters! You don’t even have to paint? I would never get that lucky.
Yes, yes, yes!! But it will be more fun to see photos of the progression.
Those were 4 separate patterns. I have the Pin one on the wall in my sewing room.
Lori – was it an Itty Bitty pattern? Do you have the pattern yet – if so, will you send me a copy?
