A few more Mortie antics:

She gets into every cupboard or drawer that opens!!
Remember when I said I knew there was a mistake in the orders I had been filling? Well, Marie got the wrong pattern so the mystery has been solved.
Here’s a picture of the vest in 1987 –

Feel free to continue sending Christmas pictures.

The Baltimore album quilt is gorgeous! What a treasure…so talented.
Susan – are you referring to the Baltimore Album quilt by Moe? Each block was printed – she did not appliqué these. Sorry, Moe – I couldn’t let her think otherwise.
I have the exact little red Childs chair. It was my dad‘s chair and he was born in 1929. I learned to walk from getting up from it and I am 73. I have never seen another one like it. My dad is from Texas and so am I thank you. Whoever posted it.
Nancy – ok, I have to take a look at my red chairs now.
Hi, Mary,
Do keep your eyes and ears open for another reason that Mortie may be fascinated by your bathroom. When I lived in Italy, my beautiful, fluffy ginger cat was Peaches (named after his lush, fuzzy appearance from behind). His mother Floozey had given birth to him at my feet while I sat down to watch the whole process for the first time in my life, so we were seriously bonded. Of course, Peaches was the kitten I chose to keep for myself when his brothers and sisters went to other homes. From the start, he was very smart and soon quite self-sufficient while I was at work all day and he investigated the mountain outside our home. On weekends and evenings after I returned from work, he was ever so spoiled with clever tricks to pull whenever he wanted a little extra attention. When Peaches was about 6 months old, I kept noticing that I’d hear the toilet flushing in the evening when we were inside, but I figured it was a mystery of Italian plumbing in small apartment buildings. Then one evening I decided to keep a special eye on Peaches, and when I glanced in the bathroom door, there he sat with his front paws gripping the front of the toilet seat while his rear half extended over the toilet bowl. He was in no hurry, but when he finished, he stood up and pushed on the handle with his front paws to flush the toilet. From then on, it was goodbye litter box and and hello, Mischief.2!
Good wishes for your Christmas, and thanks so much for sharing all the holiday preparations and decorations with our blog world!
Wanda – this is hilarious!!!!
More great decorations to admire. It’s so much fun seeing what everyone else does. At our house, I don’t put up much as we don’t host Christmas but thankfully, this weekend we will have four of our grandkids for dinner – I can’t wait. We always have a wonderful time. Last week their mother had a stroke but the doctors expect a full recovery (thankfully) so it is only a matter of time and rehab. The sad truth is that the mom is bi-polar and suffers from a host of issues which she doesn’t want to admit to. It’s been a terrible long challenge so we’ll see how she recovers from this event.
On a happy note, two weeks ago, I served the coffee and treats after church. Several people wanted my recipe for the sugar cookies. When I told them you go to the refrigerator area of the grocery store, get the package that says “Pillsbury Sugar Cookie dough”, take it home, slice it, decorate it, and bake it. One of the men said I cheated but several women took off for the store. It really was a hit.
Mortie seems to be able to make her own fun.
Have a great day everyone.
Janet: Thanks for the Christmas cookie recipe. I’m putting the “ingredients “ on my shopping list.
Several years ago I had a similar experience at a gift shop open house. They had sugar cookies that were half-dipped in chocolate. They were delicious and, I later called the shop to see if they would share the recipe. Who knew, it’s the same recipe you have – Pillsbury Sugar Cookie dough (half- dipped in chocolate). Thanks for reminding me how good they are.
Connie R.
Another recipe I have is to let the dough warm up a bit. Put it in the mixer with1/2 c. pecans, 1/2c. white chips, 1 tsp. vanilla, and 1/2 c. dried cranberries if desired. Drop by spoonfuls and bake like always, 350 about 10 minutes. They are always a hit. Enjoy.
Janet:
Sounds delicious! I’m going to try making them.
Thanks!
The vest you revamped looks really nice on you. And I like that haircut on you also. You need to call Cali in Mason City, take the picture and she’ll be able to cut your hair like you want. Cali is the best kept secret in Iowa. I’ve been going to her for over 30 years.
Christmas decorations and quilts are beautiful.
Gloria – Cali cut my hair for years! Yes, she cut my hair in that picture – also before our wedding. Can’t believe she’s still working – I think that might be the only cut she does.
“Nine Days to Christmas” by Marie Hall Ets and Aurora Labstida is a children’s book read to my classes on Dec, 16th, which is today. 🙂 It was also a Caldecott Medal winner in 1960 for the best picture book. Sweet story.
Love all the continuing Christmas decoration/quilt posts. Thank you, Mary
The Christmas photos are wonderful, especially all those love;y Nativity scenes. I hope to get mine on the mantel today. No other decorations come out before the Nativity. You and Mortie are God’s gift to each other! It’s so cute to see where she will snuggle next…she seems to love a “den”, much like a dog. What a sweet photo of you in your vest! What a pretty outfit! I remember “finding” your Goat Gazette not long before you closed shop. I was late to the internet. I remember thinking if I ever get to travel I wanted to visit your wonderful quilt barn out in the countryside. Since so many have abandoned blogging, I’m glad that you still share your quilts, furry family, and wonderful farm with us. It was 7* in SE PA this morning. Stay warm! xxoo
Another round of great pictures, thanks for sharing.
I love seeing all the decorations, but especially the nativities. Thanks everyone for sharing.
Every photo was such a delight! Such a great way to start any day!
Lucky Stars! Love that pattern. I made one quilt of that pattern using batiks scraps. Just this past weekend at retreat I started another one using reproductions. I love making those floating stars! The one pictured here is beautiful.
Good news–my pin cushions are at assembly now. So out comes the hot glue gun.
Fran – are you making pincushions for gifts? Will you show us? You get lots done – are you going on another retreat after Christmas?
Fran I also love the Lucky Stars pattern. I have made lots of them, all sizes. They always turn out so nice.
Fran, the Lucky Stars quilt is a quilt I made with a Christmas theme fabric. It appears a lot lighter in the picture than it really is. I’ve made quite a few from that pattern. & they always turn out perfect. It’s a good pattern.
Good morning! The vest looks so nice with the new binding! Very nice!
Mortie is a funny kitty. Love her! Michigan kids had a kitty that we ini the garage fridge for a day. Too nosy, when they opened the fridge to get water, he snuck in there. From then on he was fridgy!
Looks like another beautiful day!
Thanks Mary for doing these posts. It is fun too see everyone’s quilts and decorations. I know this is a Lot of work. When we closed our shop, 15 years ago, I was done! Which, you could have done the same thing, But, you keep this alive and connect people from all over the world. Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Your friend, Laura
Laura – thank you for those kind words. Somehow I just couldn’t let all those friends go and none of them were local customers. I had written the Goat Gazette for over 20 years so it just became a transfer to a blog – like my opening letter but easier. Now my life would be empty without my blog friends – who would I talk to every morning while I drink my coffee? Merry Christmas to Holly! Oh, and you, too! Haha!!!
Thanks
Merry Christmas to you and your entire brood!
Stay warm and safe.
The vest is awesome ! Looks just as good now as then❤️
Great quilts today, and I love all the nativities.
That vest looks so good with the new binding.
The Morti pics are so cute; she is a busy little thing!
Jeanie – Mortie really is a busy little thing. I think God sent her to keep me entertained during what looks to be a very long winter.
Love the Holiday decorations people put up to celebrate the season.
I chuckled when I saw the photo of the dog in Illinois laying on a lounger out on the deck enjoying the snow and sunny weather.
Happy Holidays to Everyone!
Judy – that dog is Kaley Baly and is Moe’s best friend in the whole world. She used to have a dog named PD for Pet Dog. Kaley has been a lifesaver for Moe who lost her husband about a year ago.
Mary and Judy – I just sent a note to Moe ( and yes I “met” her through this wonderful blog) that Kailey now “owns” the front porch and watches the world go by out there. She looks so sweet and happy keeping track of what’s going on around her. When I see pictures of her on the chaise, it cracks me up. How we love seeing pictures of pets.
Kathy – aren’t we all glad that Moe has Kailey!!
I always have loved seeing other people’s decorating. I worked retail for years, sometimes it was amazing that I even got a tree up! And now, I’m old, no one comes here much, so I don’t do too much decorating, but I like things with light. Cats and water are such a pair, but giving the cat a bath is not an option that I relish. I had a big tom that had skin issues, the first bath was horrible, but then he realized it felt good, so it got easier. Merry Christmas!
Dee – Mortie is fascinated with running water but giving a cat a bath? I hope I never have to.
I have really enjoyed all of the recent Christmas, quilt and pets photos. And that vest is still in vogue today. Looks good on you.
More great pictures tonight. It is so fun to look at the pictures and find things you remember from “way back when”. Loved seeing you wearing the vest in 1981. You look so cute. By the way, I had the same haircut!!!!
Ginger – and why can’t I find a stylist who can cut it like that today? I have tried several.
I hear ya! Unfortunately my hair is thinner now so I don’t think it would look the same. I loved that hair cut though. So easy!
