Tom’s funeral today, as sad as it was, was a chance to meet lots of little grandchildren. There was also a quilt aspect of the service but I need a photo to show you first as it took my breath away. It all became very real for me when I saw the quilt.
I have many things worrying me tonight!
The storm that has been forecasted over and over and over has not materialized. This has worried me for days because of the funeral tomorrow morning.
I filled orders today and I’m worried about that, too. If you get the wrong pattern just let me know and I’ll send you the one you ordered. There were so many combinations of patterns ordered I think I got mixed up…..but I would have had to cut open every single envelope to figure it out so I’m apologizing for screwing up and I will fix it. Just let me know.
I’m also worried about Civil War Modern. Recently Bonnie Hunter professed a mistake in her mystery – it’s a nightmare when you think that a wrong measurement has gone out to so many people. Within hours she posted again that indeed it was correct.
Civil War Modern has been checked and rechecked but that said please let me know if something doesn’t mesh. No matter how many times I go over it, I get somewhat of a mental block and oftentimes make the same mistake without realizing it. I even remade one block as I wrote the pattern. Sigh.

Christmas Decorating

Carol in Colorado, this is for you – the Duncan Hall today after Tom’s funeral.

I’m trying to remember which reader is my go-to tech advisor. Please email me as I have a wanna-be subscriber who simply cannot get subscribed and I’m no help. We want every subscriber we can find!

The picture of Mortie looking up is a keeper, just adorable.
I tried to count the doves in the tree. Extraordinary ! Like 12 Partridges in a pear tree!
I hope today went as best as can be expected for you Mary.
Sit down, put your feet up and look at all your wonderful blog pictures and remember most of us aren’t critical and will be patient with everything you have going on. It’s like critics of the roads and snowy conditions…….like most of the keyboard warriors have ever driven a plow! You have more animals to care for than many of us and be kind to yourself as they come first. Patterns can wait.
Pattern making is so very difficult. No matter how much you try to catch errors they happen. You would not believe how many published books and patterns are printed with errors. This is even more frustrating because they are getting paid for their work. I taught a class with a couple books that I had to rewrite.
While I am talking about frustration, I went for my early medicare physical. I lost count of the number of tests and shots that were suggested to me. I said no, no, no…. Anyone else have this issue?
Polly, I’m going thru the same thing here in Columbia, SC . Had to get all new Dr’s when we moved here this summer and my new primary and the 2 specialist I’m getting set up with have ordered stuff to cover themselves. 2 of the Co-Pays last week were $300 each! I finally said no to an esophageal swallow test when I happened to mention I had a slight cough. Think I’m going to go back to treating myself. I was an ER Nurse for 40 years so I have the background to take care of the minor stuff like a common cold and cough.
Polly – listen to this – our very first book, On Behalf of Chickens is the only book we ever did that had NO MISTAKES! How’s that for beginners luck? Haha!!
Wow. Whoever gave up Mortie surely does not know what they are missing. She truly loves you and your home.
Polly – I just love her and yes, I’m the lucky one to have her.
It seems like Mortie thinks all decorations are toys for her just waiting to be enjoyed.
Mary, what a collection! So enjoyable!
Girls Basketball is great. Iowa and Iowa State! Tonight on 12-10-25. Love it!
The Christmas decorations are just wonderful! I’m still working on mine which I normally have done by now. While the weather was nicer I put my wreaths up outside & glad I did! Weather hasn’t been very nice. I’m behind due to moving things out in my sewing room for new blinds. Still putting things back. I do have all my Christmas quilts out but that’s about it! I’m so sorry for the deaths of the young men in your community. My condolences to the families & friends. I remember when my husband passed away at the end of Oct 5 yrs ago it was a very sad Christmas. Thank you to all that sent in pictures of their decorations! I’ve so enjoyed them.
I’m finally getting caught up on the blog.
I’m so sorry for the losses in your community, how devastating. Thinking about you a lot, take care of yourself and allow yourself to grieve. Everyone will understand if you don’t get patterns out in a timely manner.
Thank you for sharing everyone’s decorating. I love seeing the pictures. What a festive time.
Here’s the info about my yo-yo tree:.
My friend hosted a workshop for our neighborhood craft group. We were to make glitzy trees from pearl beads and broken jewelry. She got 14″ tall cardboard cones from the craft store, and painted them white. She also got strings of tiny LED lights, battery powered, and poked holes in the cardboard to push them through from the inside, taping down the wire on the inside. A lot of prep work!
I am not a glitz person, so I made dozens of 1″ and 3/4″ yo-yos. I think I made a shoebox-full! I got my cone from her a couple of days early and painted mine green. At the workshop, all my friends glued beads and jewelry and I glued yo-yos. Most of them are 1″, but I used 3/4″ to fill in the gaps. It takes way more yo-yos than you think it will. I used Clover yo-yo makers.
In the photo, you can see the tiny lights spiraling around.
Dot – I love your yoyo tree! That would be my go to as well. I am not a glitzy person either. I can imagine it does take a lot of yoyo’s to fill a tree. I think it would be fun to make. I haven’t made any yoyo’s in a long time. I didn’t have a yoyo maker when I made mine. I just cut a circle and gathered around it. It’s my kind of tree. Thanks for sharing.
Dot, love your yo-yo tree. That’s my style too!
Great photos! Enjoyed! I especially liked that yo-yo tree. I love making yo-yos and I just might have to make a bunch of green ones to cover a tree. Take along project would be. Not for this yr. I still haven’t finished my 10 pincushions for this yr.
I’m so sorry for the sadness that has come to your community. To lose so many young men in a short time is a tough blow. Don’t be too hard on yourself about the patterns. I feel like this is a forgiving and understanding group and will understand. It’s been fun to see all of the readers’ Christmas decorations. Take care Mary. Thank you for the blog!
The doves were just sitting in one of our trees after the snow had fallen., I feed the birds in three different spots. They were just waiting their turn.
The wind(!) woke me up. Not time for coffee yet but I can still enjoy reading your post. I’m thinking of you and Tim in this time of grieving. Sending a big hug and prayers.
Mary you have to take some time for you. You have been under a lot of stress lately and we don’t want you to get sick. I live in a retirement community and there is a flu/cold thing going around and lucky me I got it. I have been in my apartment for a week trying to clear my lungs. Then we have people walking around sounding like a TB ward and I asked what are you doing out they say “it’s just a cold “. Well thank you for sharing so I have decided I am not sharing.
The pictures are great and thank everyone for sharing them. Loved several and inspired by some to try. After my recovery
Blessed holidays
Angie – you sound like Mortie who still has sniffles and sneezes – knock on wood, I haven’t caught anything yet but I agree people should stay home and not pass whatever they have around to others.
Hi Mary, great photos! What are the birds in the tree? I enjoy feeding sparrows and fantails in the mornings and watching the tuis chase each other from tree to tree.Lovely warm weather at present, take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sandy – doves in the tree. What’s a fantail?
