Did you watch the Fever game versus Chicago yesterday? There are hundreds of comments this morning on the site and Facebook about the flagrant but uncalled foul against Caitlin. Watch the video and you decide.
So many quilt photos – most from Beryl who attended the Miami Valley Quilt show. This was the People’s Choice.

Here are a few more.

Remember Bea’s pig named Canoli who had just lost her pig sister, Cinnamon? She has a new little sister named Eunice! Isn’t this just so sweet?

I’ve saved this pattern for years and decided I should make it now until I looked at the size – it’s 72” square! Nope, I’d have to redraft it to be smaller and I’m not sure I want to go to all that extra work. So it pulled out my 2-1/2” strips instead.
More rain expected today. Won’t be driving the convertible to church after all.

Was glad the opposing player who knocked Caitlin down,,,,got in more trouble! Why didn’t the refs eject her? Controversy!
Launa – Facebook is full of people talking about that incident – guess she’s been dismissed from two other teams for violence
judith, your decorating and creating are excellent. thanks for sharing. the quilts from the show are inspiring. this situation with the WNBA is outrageous. where is the commissioner, the coaches, the owners? that would be squashed in the NBA. why not the WNBA? they can’t see the opportunity looking them in the face. it’s been a quiet weekend here. finally get the shots in my lower back this coming tuesday. hoping for better mobility. truly love all the sharing that happens on this blog. got a new laptop yesterday, smaller foot print, but the keys are larger and giving me issues. more adjustments. still haven’t prepped backs yet. patti in florida
Patti – I hope the shots help you – enjoy that new laptop!
Three is a lovely boy; he looks so comfy. I love the quilts on the cat tree! How are Gracie and Greta? Is FB okay with them? If I remember, she really does not like any cats. It is definitely a problem, when you have multiple pets, not just her. I remember the situation with Izzy; so sorry.
Jeanie – you have a great memory! FB is not good with ANY CAT! I truly am considering euthanasia – she makes my life so miserable and yet she loves me so much. Gracie is better about coming in the house and gets along with Greta and Three well. FB won’t come into the kitchen are so Gracie is safe here.
This post is wonderful. I am happy Canoli has a new sister, the quilts are beautiful, and I’m sorry Caitlin is having a tough initiation into professional life.
I love the doll and little quilt in the child’s chair. I told my hubby, I need my toddler’s rocking chair from the attic; I am thinking a small quilt and teddy bears would be cute. Thank you for the inspiration Judith Jacques; I wish I had a doll.
I always enjoy pictures of Three. Is he okay since his encounter with Fluffybun?
Thanks & Hugs, Mary 🥰
Jeanie – Three is leery of FB – and I don’t blame him. I’d really like to have nerve enough to euthanize her.
I did not see the game, but watched the playback online. Just shows that Carter has jealousy and anger issues. Highly immature as was the cheering on the sidelines by Carters teammate. Their coach and the refs are no better. Proud of Caitlin for being the adult on the court.
Awesome quilts today. Loved the flags and flowers from Judith. And all of the pet photos.
Glad the pups are having fun. The quilts are beautiful! Love the fabric flowers! Once again, Caitlin Clark rose above the garbage (then to add insult to injury, pathetic garbage hugging someone who committed the “mugging”) when she gave an absolutely great interview when questioned about that flagrant foul that should have been called. I did read that someone questioned the “why”….jealousy is pretty obvious because Caitlin is THAT good. You can’t take away her achievements (so far), but for the refs to ignore something so blatant is putting a player at risk for injury. She alone is responsible for Women’s Basketball gaining popularity & filling venues like never before- they should embrace her for that. Have to end this in a positive comment…How wonderful that Canoli’s has a new sister, Eunice. How adorable! xxoo
Ann – you are absolutely correct when you say the WNBA has changed because of Caitlin. Empty stadiums for years to sellouts wherever she goes. She remains Iowa Nice.
Judith Jacques – love your 4th of July flags and patriotic flowers. Is there a pattern for them that I could purchase?
Thanks,
Brenda
Love all the quilts! Wondering if Judith Jacques has a pattern for her fabric flowers? Absolutely love those!!
Loved Charles Barkley calling them out and telling them to stop being petty and ridiculous. I really don’t follow basketball like you do Mary, but Caitlin certainly has brought WNBA to the forefront. Sad that there’s this much jealousy and pettiness……. they need to put their big girl panties on and play ball.
I briefly saw a clip on the news about Caitlin. I didn’t catch enough to comment on it.
Thanks for sharing many of the pictures I sent. It was a great show. Perhaps the one I sent as best of show didn’t make it through. It was not the orange one. The orange one was in the Challenge category from s 3 crayon challenge. I think it is a great quilt. The best of show was an applique quilt started by a woman that passed away and her friends finished it for the husband.
After two lovely days, it’s a damp day today. It’s good for doing inside things.
Beryl – could you resend that best of show picture? There were so many I obviously got them mixed up and I didn’t like that orange one either. Ha!!! So many fabulous quilts!!
Miami Quilt Show was fantastic ! Lot of beautiful quilts. My friend had one in the show. Guild challenge quilt with different size blocks in up king size. Of I seen several friends there. Couple local quilt stores there . It was fabulous day Saturday to go. Sorry I dont get into sports anymore. Like all pictures. Primative flags b making one for quilt group. Light rain yesterday evening n night.
Mary – not to worry if you’re not into sports! Tell us what YOU are interested in – I’ll bet you’re not the only one!
Mary, I have a Great granddaughter who has really gotten into basketball just because of Caitlin. She is only 8, but nearly as tall as me. We bought her two Caitlin t shirts and a regulation basketball for her birthday, because she is so gung ho. One shirt is being worn, the other is in the wash. Her favorite has a picture of Caitlin spinning the ball on her fingers. She was delighted the other day when she met an older woman was wearing the same shirt as she was. Caitlin is a role model for all ages. Let’s hope todays game is more civilized. Go Caitlin. Jeanne in Co.
Jeanne – so many kids arrive at the games with a 22 shirt on! I’m not surprised your gd is a fan as well. C kept her cool in yesterday’s game but it was hard to watch and I see there are repercussions today. This bullying is disgusting! A nice reader just sent me a red Caitlin shirt and they wore red uniforms yesterday which I’ve never seen!! I have it on today, too!
I. too, love all the patriotic things Judith Jacques posted. We can never be too patriotic. Thank you Judith for posting them. We did not get to see the game yesterday, but watched the foul against Caitlyn this afternoon. I think many of the players on other teams are jealous of her because of all the media attention she has gotten. We were excited to see that they won that game. Thanks again, Mary, for your blog and for posting all the pictures. I look forward to your email every day. It always cheers me up! Have a good restful day.
Judith Jacques love everything you did! Love prim flags and flowers is there a pattern for them? Wonderful to see Three looking so comfy!
Great quilts and pet pics today. Don’t know if I agree with the Best of Show. Watched the game and saw the foul or hit Carter did to Clark. Totally uncalled for. Afterwards Angel Reese ran up and hugged Carter. Glad the Fever won though.
Donna – I have never seen them in red uniforms but want you to know I wore MY red shirt, too! Have it on again today – I’ll bet I’m the only person in North Iowa that has one, thanks to you!!!
Glad it fit Mary. A young black man came up to me at Sam’s Club and told me he liked my Fever T-shirt! Mine is navy.
Love all the pictures today, what a great way to start the day. The pattern you have been saving is beautiful and I’m sure you’re up for the challenge.
We watched the basketball game and the hit on Clark was totally uncalled for and the perp should have been sidelined for the rest of the game. It was a basketball game not a street fight!
Friend who has a convertible is now in a wheelchair. Yesterday she really wanted a ride, kid went over, put the battery from something else into it so they could take a ride. I’m sure she was over the moon. I’m working on the Gravity quilt, new blocks tomorrow. I’ve had the kit for probably 10 years, shop in Texas is running it as a BOM. It’s moving ahead smartly. You didn’t have to buy kit from them, it was $5 to be a member of the group. She’s doing a really nice job. There’s been a couple spots that were not clear, or just plain not mentioned that I was glad for her guidance. Of course when someone commented about how it would look with white out to black, instead of black to white, I had seen one at a quilt show that I’m using for my finish. I shared the picture I took. They are now selling a kit with white to black!
Such suspense! What was under the cement??! Did Hazel find buried treasure? She is such a funny dog. I loved Judith’s flags and flowers too! Very cute. I’m going to see if I have any suitable fabrics to try making something similar. I love flags! I’ve been collecting patterns for dolls and things that have been painted and stained to look primitive. Those are fun to make too. Hot here today but there’s a nice breeze. Got to get some plants in the ground or there won’t be any fresh veggies this year! Pete finally got to harrow the lower garden. That’s where we plant the sprawling things like squash and potatoes. I don’t know that I’ll find any potatoes to plant though. Sigh… Jan in MA
Jan – I lifted up the concrete – nothing there!!! She just gets it in her head that there might be something and starts digging
The flagrant “foul” by Chennedy Carter on Caitlin was just plain bullying. She should have been ousted from the game. Since she wasn’t called on it by the refs, then the refs are the ones who should be reprimanded and ousted. Is this the way the WNBA intends to let the games be played? And why are they criticizing and picking on Caitlin? Is it because she’s the new and best draftee and this is their way of initiating her into their league? Or is it just plain jealousy? Seems to me that all the good that Caitlin has brought to women’s basketball is being undone by what is happening in the WNBA games. Caitlin may not be making as many points as she did in college, but she is still the one who is setting up the plays for her teammates. Go Caitlin. We love you. The pictures being sent to the blog are great. Puppies, chickens, quilts, and outdoor scenes. Thank you everyone.
Jeanne in Colo.
Jeanne – I agree with you 100%!!! People are now flocking to the games and stadiums are packed which is a far cry from the past – all because of the interest in Caitlin. Kids of all ages wearing her jersey number. I don’t see anybody wearing Chennedy’s jersey, so you? The Chicago players acted like thugs.
Beautiful pictures today. Love the Kindred Souls pattern. I’m hoping to get through my last flower bed today
While it is to be expected Caitlin would be roughed up for a while to “prove” she could take it, the amount and caliber of the violence is uncalled for. I saw the “mugging” yesterday as part of an opinion piece. The writer had sunk $$$ into women’s basketball after Caitlin went over and opined that after decades of WNBA not making money, it finally had a chance to become mainstream with the interest Caitlin was providing but the WNBA would rather shoot itself in the foot and turn people away with the violence they were dealing out because Caitlin was white, cute, and straight. If money talks; evidently some people still aren’t willing to listen. Feel free to delete this if it is more controversial than you want on your blog.
Judith Jaques flags and flowers were just outstanding.
I reread the opinion piece I mentioned above; the writer did not invest money in the WNBA but included a tweet from someone who had in his opinion piece. Sorry for my mistake.
I agree with Fiona, the center medallion of that quilt is awesome and doesn’t look hard, mostly strips and HSTs. Also love those little fabric flags! Your readers are so clever!
I was so mad that Caitlin got pushed over like that……I didn’t see the game–I hope the person got thrown out of the rest of the game…….
I loved seeing all the beautiful quilts……love the doll too…
What a fun quilt show today! Mary you could just make the center diamond medallion part of the Kindred souls quilt: as far as the pink and white row of cats, that would result in a quilt about 51 inches by 51 inches.
I did see the (incredibly) flagrant foul, and her teammate encouraging her afterwards. Really unbelievable, and dangerous going forward.
Love the quilt show you posted!
I saw the replay this morning on the hit on Caitlin. Flagrant foul that should have been called. That’s not basketball.
The pattern you were saving is beautiful but, I too would shy away from a quilt that large. Very complicated but, I’m sure it would be awesome.
Judith Jaques – I love, love, love your flags and flowers! So many beautiful things in your pictures! Thanks for sharing!
Such a sweet Mother’s Day gift to Grandma Jane from Ford, perfect!
Thunderstorms since 5 a.m. SW Iowa. Presently raining straight down hard.
Loved the quilts today. I am leaving in the a.m. for a retreat for 4 days so ‘it’s last minute prep for me. It’s an awesome place to retreat to. It’s a Benedictine in Schuyler. NE. It’s a little spendy but the food is awesome. I managed to finish up cutting a new project yesterday between everything else I had to do.
What wonderful quilts today, thanks Berly for sharing with us. I did see the replay on the hit on Caitlyn, unnecessary and should be called as a foul. Another day of rain here in Wisconsin.
Judith. I love the doll with the primitive doll quilt. i Love the flowers and the flags you are making, too. Love the peacock quilt from the show. All the quilts are amazing!
Mary, the Kindred Souls looks so complicated. Beautiful though. A real challenge.
