Cookbook! 8-14-21

I found a limited number of the cookbooks – maybe 40-50 or so? Price is $15.00 which includes postage as media mail.

The goat on the cover is Charlene, one of the prettiest goats I’ve ever had and I just happened to catch this picture of her on the bench with the barn in the background.

When I used to write the Goat Gazette I asked readers to send me recipes and after a time I just had to collect them in a cookbook because they are such good basic recipes from women who cooked just good plain food.

I cannot accept credit cards – we gave up that capability when we closed the business so you will need to send cash or check. I will let you know when I run out of cookbooks.

Send your money to Country Threads, 2345 Palm Ave. Garner, IA 50438

What a view!

Love your cookbook! When you make a recipe from the book and post it on your blog I go right to the book and try it, if I haven’t already! Got it years ago.

  4. Lois Ann Johnson

I need one of your cookbooks, Mary! Check is in the mail! I still love to cook and collect recipes as well. Growing up in Iowa and living here my entire life, I find that cooking simple is sometimes the best. It looks like we are going to be blessed with wonderful weather for the next week. I love Iowa!

    Mary,
Love Hazel looking for something to get into outside!
Sat outside a few minutes cool minutes. Yesterday there was a 3 foot long harmless, ugly, skinny water snake sunning itself on a huge rock in the pond! Was soaking up the sun!
The Trail Creek Fire is still moving slowly! The helicopters were dumping water on it yesterday! No word on any evacuation yet. We are 10 miles north of Gibbonsville, a small community.
Yesterday the TN football game was blocked from Direct TV! Watched another! More today n tomorrow!

    1. Kathy in western NY

Well Luana, comments are loved by Mary so here goes my comment…..I would have a heart attack and be a goner if that snake was sunning itself in my presence. My blood curdling scream would be heard across the ocean to England! You are one brave girl and I admit I have that phobia of snakes.
And I laughed over Susan’s adjectives describing her today. Thank you everyone for being a very good part of my day!

My check is in the mail for the cookbook! So glad you found them!
The air quality in NW Oregon for the past several days has been and will continue to be terrible because of smoke from the many fires in the region. Sure hope they can get them under control soon.
Our quilting group is sending quilts to southern Oregon for the victims of recent fires down there and now there’s another lightning caused fire in the same area. It’s just sad.

I would love to add your cookbook to my collection! Putting my check in the mail!

I was just wondering about the 2 quilts you posted. The second one, is there a name or pattern please?

I would like a cookbook and will be putting my check in the mail today. I also have a stack of old goat gazettes that I have collected over the years and I’d love for them to have a good home somewhere. Let me know if anyone is interested and will try to figure out a way to get them to them.

I hae an older well used Kitchen Klatter cookbook which I dearly love and would like to replace –if anyone knows a source available I’d love to hear about it.

I’m a faithful reader but seldom post but do love Grace and all the stories as well as quilts.

    1. Janice Brown

Ruth, Try a search on Amazon and ebay. I did a quick look on these two sites and found several entries for the cookbook.

  14. Judy

Oops on my reply to Jill. When I looked again, some of the blocks have 6 pieces and some only 5. If cutting into 6 start with 6 squares. If cutting into 5 start with 5 squares.

  15. Bonnie McKee

My check is in the mail 😊
Can’t wait to try those recipes! ❤️
Love all the quilts you have shown in recent weeks!
    Stay cool everyone!

I sent you an email that my check is in the mail. I have made the recipes you have posted in the blog. My favorite by far is the oven roasted fresh sweet corn. I need to make some this week as the sweet corn is being harvested locally. Anxious to try other recipes in your book.

My check is in the mail just like everyone else’s!! I hope I am lucky!! Would love to have a copy. Thanks, Mart.

  24. RITA in Iowa

Mary, love the quilts and the pictures, if you still have a cookbook available I will take one also. I will wait to hear back from you before I send a check so you don’t have to send it back. Thanks for all you do and the great news from all the ladies.

My husband and I just picked up our 7 year old grandson to have for a few days before his school started.

    Hi Mary,
I have tried to download the free pattern for Good Fortune but when I click the download link, it takes me to comment section. Is anyone else having this problem?

    1. Kathy in western NY

Charlotte, I had the same problem. Then one time I clicked the link again and I finally saw The words “Good Fortune “ in lighter ink under one of the ads but before the comment section. Once I clicked on that it took me to 2 pages of instructions for making the quilt.

      1. Charlotte Shira

I just tried it again and it’s not working. I could download the other 2…no problem. I’ll just keep checking.

      2. Charlotte Shira

I finally found the Good Fortune right before the comment area! Thank you Kathy.

        1. Mary Etherington Post author

Charlotte Shira – so please tell me, isn’t there a tab for “free patterns” at the top of your page?????

          1. Kathy in western NY

Yes Mary there was the tab to click on free patterns and then the Good Fortune quilt came up to click on that link. After that it was hard to see what to click on next due to the ads and comment box as it was smaller print saying the name again. Eventually we figured it out just like anything else computer related but we got it.

          2. Mary Etherington Post author

Kathy in w ny – and when I click on that free tab it comes right up to the pdf of the pattern – no links, no nothing

  26. Janet S

Surely you have run out of books by now, but just in case, my check is coming your way.

This was a delight. Seeing people hanging out together, enjoying each other’s company on a summer’s day is a good reminder of what we’re all working so hard to get back to. And reminds me of so many gatherings of cousins and neighbors and friends. Thanks for sharing.

Mary, I think I may have had the same prep for colonosopy that you had. Was it in a box with a 16oz jar and two doses….the first was one envelope mango flavored and the other two were fruit punch.
I told my Dr. that was the most horrible tasting stuff I have ever tried to take. ….and this was my fourth rodeo.
He acted like I should have loved it. Offered to watch him guzzle the stuff….. Never again.
Sorry for your loss….especially since you can’t do anything to protect them. Blessings<Lee

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Lee Bowers – no, mine was two small bottles and a plastic cup – it was called Suprep. I’m with you – never again!

      1. Judy

My last colonoscopy was 3 years ago. The surgeon told me at that time the recommendation was that a colonoscopy was no longer necessary after age 75. I may have had my last! He also said that recommendations were subject to change. I haven’t heard anything on the subject since then.
