Did you see the moon tonight? 7-9-25

The moon is orange tonight and very full – it is gorgeous!

I know it doesn’t look orange in this picture.

Hank came for an overnight visit – he and Barney love each other!

More quilts to view!

Millie

Each pattern is $5.00, cash or check made out to Mary ETHERINGTON. Each pattern requires its own SASE.

Remember when we sent cards to Mickey? Here’s an update.

Hi – I thought I’d give you an update on Mickey, who we recently card bombed.

I wanted to wait until the cards were tapering off, but guess what? They’re not! When I asked my friend if they were still getting any, she laughed and said her postman now uses rubber bands to keep each day’s cards together. “ You’d think it was Christmas time!” She told me.

She also said Mickey loves to talk about the cards and reread them. She asked me to pass on her and Mickey’s thanks for such a fun treat.

I’d say this card bombing was a complete success. And it certainly cheered a woman in hospice care. Thank you to everyone who took the time to write out a card.

Hugs – Christine in AZ

    Hank and Barney🥰 so sweet!
    Love all the beautiful quilts!!
“A Dog is a Heart on Four Legs” so true…Love this!!

  2. Jeanie S, Central IL

I love the sweet picture of Barney and Hank! That Millie knows how to nap!
All the quilts are beautiful. I am feeling more excited about sewing these days; I think your blog is working its’ magic, Mary. Thanks!

Hank & Barney are so cute together! Another nice quilt show today. I missed the moon last night. I had heard it was going to be orange. Glad you got to see it.
I hope Mickey continues to receive cards and we’ll wishes. ♥️

I’m so glad that Mickey is enjoying all the cards and if she reads this know that we are with you and you are thought of. I missed the moon, after all the yard work I was bushed and hit the pillow early. I continue to battle with poison ivy in our woods behind our home. I refuse to finish cleaning the downed limbs until the ivy is really truly dead. Hank is such a handsome dude.

YES! The moon was very bright last night and shone through my window. I recited my own “Good Night, Moon” (children’s book) to it…Good night moon, Good night dresser, Good night pictures that need dusting. I went all the way around the room, ending with Good night closet – I need to shut your door so I don’t walk into it, Good night clock – no, I don’t need to set a “get up” time tonight!. The moon didn’t seem to mind, and I had a Good Night’s sleep.
Hank is so sweet to check on his feline friends. Maybe Barney is staying around the barn so he doesn’t miss his “Hank Time?” Curly Hazel (yesterday’s pix?) looks SO innocent…Who me? Muddy? Oh, and cats should get a reward for knowing how to nap in the craziest places. Thanks to everyone who sent pictures. I especially liked the succulents in the boots and the RWB orphan/sampler quilt with the feet!
78*, cloudy and a little breezy here. I have one dandelion in the middle of the front yard. Sneaky little thing makes me smile. Have a good afternoon. Kris in WI

Those farm pics sure bring back memories of my growing up years on the farm. Sometimes it takes a very small gesture to brighten a persons day & I’m glad that Mickey enjoyed her card shower. Seeing Hank make his rounds reminds me of the 2 wonderful Goldens who were part of our lives. As usual enjoyed the quilt show. Stay cool everyone!

So happy we could cheer Mickey!
We had another 6 tenths overnight. It must have stormed and e slept right through it! That’s scary! Amazingly green and beautiful all across illinois and Iowa!
    Have a good day everyone!

Thanks to Christine for the sweet note about Mickey. I was going to say what other readers have already commented. The card shower is a blessing!

The quilts are all so beautiful!

Variety in the post, again. 🙂 I was taken by the log cabin green rendition – a favorite block and a favorite color. I saw the moon just rising when I was taking the trash out to the street – beautiful.! Glad t hear that Mickey is enjoying her card shower. Always love seeing all the quilts and animals.

How awesome that Mickey has gotten so many cards & is still getting them! This card ministry is such a wonderful idea, Mary! Thank you for suggesting we take part in this! The weather has been hot & dry in SW Ohio, so having to water plants twice daily to keep them alive. I leave Monday for 2 wks at the lake, so all potted plants will be out in 2 kiddie pools with water & a neighbor who will check on them & water the in ground plants. I dog sit for my friend who owns the lake house. She will be gone for 2 wks & I’m hoping these 2 pups get a long! We have an arrangement that we keep each other’s dogs whenever we’re going to be gone on vacation or overnight. This has worked well for many years for multiple dogs! It’s a wonderful vacation for me as well! Just finished a baby quilt for a shower happening on Saturday. Also taking a project or 2 to work on at the lake + a couple of books to read!

Alice – I remember this arrangement you have with your friend. Have the dogs met? – I hope so and I hope you’ll all have a fun time. What are you going to work on? And have you read any good books lately? I have not and it’s discouraging to say the least.

      1. Lynn in Scottsdale, AZ

Mary, have you read the Nightingale by Kristin Hannah? My neighbor gave me the book with high recommendation, I enjoyed it, and passed the book on to our niece. She loved it, and passed it on to a work friend.

The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion by Beth Brower will make you smile. I have only read the first 2. Waiting for volumes 3 and 4 which I ordered from Amazon.

So gratifying to hear our cards cheered Mickey. Wishing her comfort in hospice care.

I am so impressed with all the quilts. So much cutting and sewing. I prefer smaller projects, but find inspiration from the quilts and quilters.

Hank and the kitties are so cute. Glad he and Hank’s mom are in your life. I have always struggled with peeling hard boiled eggs. I bought an egg cooker.

      2. Candy

Mary, do you like Fredrick Backman’s books? He wrote “A Man Called Ove”, the “Beartown” series (3 books), “Britt-Marie Was Here”, and many more. I really like his books, and I see he has a new one this summer called “My Friends”. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s in the queue.

        1. Mary Etherington Post author

Candy – yes, I’ve read all of them and will find the newest one, too. I loved the Beartown series.

      3. Alice in SW OH

Mary, yes the dogs have met. We did 3 trial runs. 1st time she had a family emergency & had to go out of town on a moments notice. That didn’t go so well & feisty Boots spent most of 3 days in his kennel, except for many long walks daily. 2nd time went pretty well. Last Saturday we went to the lake for a party to celebrate Ron’s 92nd birthday & took Boots. The two dogs did pretty well together. At least we weren’t afraid one of them would get hurt. We both felt much better! I will take his kennel as I have to put Boots in”time out” sometimes😊! Books– I just finish a book by John Grisham, The Boys From Biloxi. An easy read about the Dixie Mafia. I do like John Grisham books. Not sure if I mentioned that Ron has macular & is having shots in both eyes every 4-6 wks. One eye has improved to the point it’s now dry macular, the other is wet Macular, still, but has improved a bit. Oh, the health challenges as we age!

        1. Mary Etherington Post author

Alice – I can’t wait to hear about the dogs’ adventures! I have read that Grisham book and liked it. Shots in an eye sounds like torture! Hope it helps because otherwise I’d say no. Haha!

I did see the bright full moon last night! Our sunset was orange but the moon wasn’t. We have some slight wildfires smoke coming from Canada so our sunsets are beautiful. I went outside to see if I could catch the space station going over head which the meteorologist said would be 10:15 pm and appear like a fast moving star for about 7 minutes. It was too cloudy in our northern sky for me to see it. He said it has been manned continuously for 25 years. Can you imagine if it was your turn to be on it???? Not me.
Loved seeing all the wonderful photos and what a treat to see Hank sharing a moment with his cat friends. You can see the love.
Blessings to Mickey as she endures hospice and hope our cards continue to brighten her days.

  12. Linda in Saginaw Michigan

Love hearing about Mickey’s response and all the cards she received, makes me feel good to help cheer someone who is sick.

Hank and Barney are cute together. I really like my dogs and cats relationship except when Nelson – who has been “fixed” since 6 months, humps Greta! He never humps anything else but every once and a while he is over Greta, and Greta just sits there! Goofy babies!

It’s hot and sticky here today but I have to leave my air conditioning and run a couple of errands – get a cell phone scam straightened out and drop off donations of clothes at Goodwill. RE: cell phone fraud, if you have ATT and get a call identified as ATT, hang up immediately. I used to have Verizon and received periodic calls about promotions, etc. but just found out ATT never calls anyone. And they don’t reduce you bills or give you phones unless you initiate everything. I’ve spent over two days trying to get this mess straightened out!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Linda – I detest cell phone problems!!! I’m not having any at the moment but that could change instantly. I have Verizon – I never know how to “fix” a problem – settings are worded in such a way that I don’t understand the language. Remember old JB? Hazel used to hump him! I have no idea why!!

  13. Angie from Baltimore

I am so glad so many responded to Mickey. It takes maybe 5 minutes but your five minutes means the world to someone who is going through something maybe feels alone to know they aren’t alone there are people who care enough to share five minutes. I know it makes me happy and especially in these times where caring about someone else is on the back burner.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Angie – yes, what you’re saying is so true! I card can mean a lot to someone like Mickey who feels alone in the world with nothing to look forward to. I have someone in August but I wonder if we could find one for July.
