Everybody Loves Raymond, 11-24-25

This reunion show was the best 90 minutes of television I’ve seen in a long time. We laughed so hard! Now all we seem to get are reality shows.

Two reader photos

The most beautiful geranium I’ve ever seen!

Goodnight!

Beautiful colors in Vicki’s table quilt. Shoulder replacement will have been 3 weeks ago on Monday. This week I have been playing the piano and knitting. I plan to play for the worship service tomorrow. That is if it takes place. Snow started this morning and the ground is already covered. Prediction is for 7 inches by morning. We were headed to a basketball game this morning, but it has been postponed. I have not done any sewing since surgery, but I have been sorting the scraps that never get sorted. So the sewing area is a mess. Thanksgiving was good here. One daughter came early and we made peanut brittle for Christmas gifts. Or rather I supervised and she and my husband made the peanut brittle. Other daughter and family were at the in-laws in Minnesota, they headed home earlier than planned with the wintery forecast for today. Everyone stay safe whatever weather you are dealing with.

I, too, watched the reunion show. I laughed so hard I cried and I cried for those no longer with us. Don’t think I appreciated the humor at the time but I sure do now. I never watch the reality shows, because really, they are not reality, not even good acting. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Judi – wasn’t the humor on Raymond just the best? So dry, so understandable – Deborah was wonderful as were Frank and Marie and Robert. We didn’t miss many episodes over the years.

Well, a different subject! The weather! And this is not the weatherman blah, blahing! It is blowing Ike crazy here at 4:30 p.m. I saw Sioux City had many power outages! Ugh! Many people are traveling this week! A strong system is in the works!
The quilts were really pretty and I LOVE Mortie!

Joy – I can hear it beginning to howl in our grove – doesn’t sound too good.

Great post today. Lots of great pictures and lots of great comments. Vicki I love your pilgrims. They are so cute. The book History Matters is on my to read list. I hope I get to it soon. I can’t imagine taking a Laura Heine class . I made the cow quilt. It took me months. One of the ears I worked on for two weeks. It is still one of the favorites that I have done.
We are awaiting the birth of a new grandchild. The pregnancy has become high risk. My daughter in law wants to try make it for three more weeks. There is lots of prayer happening at our house.

    1. Vicki in Seattle

Thanks Marie! The pilgrims have been around a long time!😊
I will pray for your daughter-in-law.
Would love to see your cow quilt…I bet it is gorgeous!!

Although I didn’t watch “Everybody Loves Raymond” regularly in it’s first run, last night reunion show was on my “to watch” list. What a great 90 minutes! Like many of you, reading a good book is high on my list. I just finished HISTORY MATTERS by David McCullough published this year. Very good, k
    Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Jan – that just shows you’re a lot smarter than me! I am not interested in a serious book like that but I am deeply impressed that you are and so glad you shared this because I’m quite sure many of my readers will love it. I am way too shallow. I expect to be judged for that statement.

I can really relate to the quote “I can do in one day what others can do in one hour.” I took a class last weekend on making one of Laura Heine’s collage quilts … I’m making her small jellyfish collage. Oh, my … have I always been so dense? I have done plenty of appliqué using fusibles, but do you think I could wrap my brain around that concept on Sunday … noooo, I could not! I’m much better off ‘plodding’ through a project in my own space and time. Oh, well … it’s a small start.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Candy – at the Kansas City show a few years ago, Connie and I took a class from one of her accomplished students. We took home two big soggy pieces of cardboard that I just a few months ago put in the trash! This was not for me either. It was the tomato pincushion piece which I loved but I hated the process.

I missed the “Raymond” reunion show – I had chorus rehearsal; I’m sure I would have enjoyed it! I can’t deal with the “reality” shows – not sure what reality some of those shows are in!
Gorgeous geranium – I need to put mine in the garage and see if I can keep it over winter.
I also enjoyed the memes today – yes, I fall into the category of taking all day to do an hour’s worth of work. I certainly do not move as well as I used to and some days I just indulge in being lazy. And I miss Erma Bombeck – always loved her columns and have a couple of her books.
I took my sort-of-adopted cat to the vet this morning (he needed a couple of “parts” removed), all in the spirit of “you can’t fix stupid, but you can fix a cat… He has an ear infection too, so he’ll get some antibiotics. He’s a much bigger version of your sweet Mortie and is very friendly – I think he’ll hang around as long as I provide some food… LOL!

Yay for Everybody loves Raymond! We were so looking forward to this special and after Robert’s girlfriend/wife came on the weatherman broke in with a tornado 🌪️ warning! I understand the need for it but he stayed on for the rest of the show just blabbering away. The storms were south of us and dissipating so he didn’t need to stay on. Oh, the frustration! When he finally got off we saw the last 5minutes. 🥲 We are going to sign up for peacock today for a free week trial, it’s supposed to be on there. It’s one of favorite shows and we collected all the dvds. My favorite was the one where Raymond kept saying the wrong things when Deborah was in pms and then Marie complained too. Such great writing, I loved it.
My daughter,Sarah, was hit by a deer 🦌 on the way home from here Saturday night. She’s fine but her car wasn’t. Luckily she was able to get into a nice used suv yesterday.
And praise God, Darrell finally found his glasses yesterday. After 3 weeks of looking! I told him open both doors of his truck and really clean it out. They must have slipped off of the console and were down beside the passenger seat hiding. He had been getting by using readers.
I’m looking forward to thanksgiving because I don’t have to make a turkey 🦃 meal! Sarah and hubby are going to be with my ex in Houston so it’s only Darrell and I. We’re going to have chicken strips, mashed potatoes, cream gravy, peas and homemade rolls. I hate the smell of turkey cooking.
Miss Mary you are truly blessed with your precious animals and especially with your Keeper, Miss Hazel and adorable Miss Mortie!😻❤️❤️❤️❤️ Hugs from Penny and Lucy!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Pamela – forgot to say this has happened to us before – the weatherman just blabbered on for no reason keeping us from a show we were so looking forward to! One time I wrote a complaint letter to the tv station and they also blabbered on about their commitment to public safety – blah, blah, blah! Made me so mad

    2. Brenda in Georgia

I totally agree about the turkey and I really don’t like the taste at all. I will substitute almost anything else, but especially barbecued pulled pork!

    3. Susan from Michigan

We watched the reunion also. I noticed after the fact that it was on YouTube, so you might check there.

  9. Barbara Moore

We were treated to nearly 1-1/2” of rain over the weekend. Any time it rains in the desert, it’s a good thing – where the annual rainfall isn’t much more than 10-12’. Otherwise, the sun’s been shining and we’re slowly putting up the outside lights and yard decor. My zinnia garden, that has been a food source to many, is at last laying itself down for the season. The little birds have stripped many flower heads of their seeds, yet there always seems to be enough that fall so the re-seeding can start next year. The Giant Swallowtails have begun to lay eggs on the new growth in the orange tree – citrus acts as a host for their caterpillars. These little worms look like bird droppings are usually ignored by predators. We’re always happy to see them. Happy Thanksgiving to all. It is one American holiday that is dedicated to thanking God for our blessings. Barb in Tucson

Morti is just adorable! In all the years that I’ve had pets it’s been mostly dogs. My husband was highly allergic to cats so after one cat that had to be rehomed we never had another one. Asthma attacks are no fun!! We absolutely loved Everybody loves Raymond show! We laughed so hard! I agree that there certainly isn’t much to watch on TV anymore & don’t like these silly reality shows! Give me a good book any day! The geraniums belong to my friend Ron. This was the 2nd year for this pot. Now they’re in his garage. Our weather in SW Ohio is cold & rainy & a perfect day to sew or read a book. Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We’re going to my DIL’s brother’s home & all I have to bring is dessert. I’d planned to take a pumpkin roll, but someone is allergic to cinnamon! Really?? So it will be marble brownies & cookies for the kids. There’s usually 25-30 people in attendance!

  11. Beryl BC

Great blog post! It’s rainy in SW Ohio today. Cold is coming in a few days. It’s been a lovely fall.

  12. Fran Dixon

Short and brief this morning. Nothing wrong with that. That’s how some days are.

So foggy here last night. Eerie. Change is coming in with wind and temp drop later they say–whoever “they” are. ALDI was a very bus yesterday not to mention what SAMs was as I drove by. Parking a nightmare

It’s sew day here today. I hope no one too busy with cooking–ha–most of them get the whole meal from a grocery store. Thanksgiving is a fav of mine but I am retired from cooking that went on for 3 days and a meal was gone in 15 min. Things have slipped in the culture along with TV and movies. I am not a TV fan at all. Rather read a book or listen to a podcast. My TV is hardly ever turned on. I just use Firestick and it has everything an expensive cable network does.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Fran – I admire you when you say you don’t turn your tv on. I’m the other side of the coin – if I’m sewing, 90% of the time the tv is one – usually a ballgame which is easy to follow – tv is my only entertainment.

  13. Des

What wonderful pictures today-quilts, pumpkins, beautiful geraniums, a great Erma Bombeck quote & that cute little Mortie! I’m taking a little breather here before tackling house cleaning for Thanksgiving guests. And I agree with the sad state of TV today. We watch mostly sports, PBS & those great old comedy shows. We need something to laugh about between doctor & dentists visits!

  14. Ginger S in New Hampshire

I just love your blog Mary and I enjoy reading all of the comments. I’m sorry I missed the Raymond reunion show. Monday Night Football. We mostly watch sports (husband) and PBS. I just can’t get into the reality shows either. It seems that the channels are trying to attract younger viewers as they are all into streaming. Those of us who aren’t into streaming are left with “blah” shows. And if I’m truthful, I mostly am just listening to TV because I am always sewing or doing something else while TV is on in the evenings. I hope you and all of your readers have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Ginger – yes, I just told Fran I usually have a game on in the background and can look up occasionally to watch while listening as I sew.

  15. Maggey

Have a wonderful thanksgiving,, love, love all your post and look forward to each one. Just love Mortie. What a sweetie.

  16. Kathy in western NY

We also watched the show last night and laughed so much. The fruit of the month club that they showed was the best with the mom. “ MORE pears!!!” . So funny. I said I didn’t think I could stay awake to watch the whole show but I did.
I’m glad you ended with a picture of that little stinker Mortie.
We have so much to be grateful for and your blog post is one of them! You’re a friend to many here.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Kathy – thank you for that HUGE compliment – a friend to many. We hadn’t heard from Sunflower for a long time and when I realized it I contacted her – some problems in her life, several deaths and just general malaise with the world. She’s reading but not commenting and I began to worry.

  17. Deb C

I watched Raymond too……..so funny! Can’t beat good sarcasm and they all delivered their lines so well. Fabulous writers! Happy Thanksgiving to all. 🦃

  18. Lynette in Orlando

Mary, I watched it also and I was laughing as much as well. I have pretty much given up and now have 2 apps that I can watch various British TV shows, The comedies are hilarious and thoroughly enjoyable vs what’s being offered to us here. I just cannot comprehend how a good comedy or show can’t be created these days.

Morty is SO cute!!! Reminds me a bit of one of my favorite cats. He was also orange, his name was Gus. He was a total sweetheart- I was so sad when he passed.

Mary I hope you and everyone reading has a very Happy Thanksgiving,

  19. Janet S

It seems no one is able to write a good script anymore – I still watch and enjoy Golden Girls and Mayberry RFD. It’s so sad the deterioration of tv.
It seems like Minnesota will get some rain/snow/cold – yah – I can sew for a couple days. We will be going to my stepsons for thanksgiving and all I have to do is make the stuffing.
Stay safe and warm for the holidays everyone.

  20. Jean

Several years back I got so disgusted with tv that I got rid of the thing and haven’t missed it for one nano second. Trash! What a shame that garbage rules and people settle for it. Sad. Reading is wonderful and books open an entire world of amazing things. I read mostly non fiction.
That geranium is gorgeous! A treat for the eyes.

  21. Phyllis Rosenwinkel

Your Morty reminds me of my Lorenzo who had a large orange circle on each side. He was a delightful cat whose teenage body grew faster than his brain learned to control his limbs.

  22. Sandy

Hi Mary, l watch a lot of shows on YouTube, ambulance shows are favourite at the moment, l was a nurse ,also buying houses etc is interesting while l quilt. Can’t cope with all these silly reality shows,so many empty headed people! Am l getting old and grumpy? Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sandy – since we’re all about the same age I think we’re all getting old and grumpy – good description of me, for sure.

  23. Martha W in WY

Reality and cop/detective TV shows are the norm now. Can’t anyone come up with a good comedy series? Safe travels to anyone traveling this upcoming holiday. I hope everyone can find something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I am thankful for my husband (who tolerates my fabric addiction), my children and grandchildren, good health, and the many freedoms that we have. Thanksgiving blessings to all!
