Best Christmas Pageant Ever, 11-25-25

I went to this movie tonight which was sponsored by my church. I had never seen it before and really enjoyed it – I was so tempted to stay home but I always talk myself out of these things at the last minute. Wind gusts right now are 50-60 mph – whoaaaaa!!!!!

Lots of great photos tonight – I have really enjoyed receiving them.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Marie and Jeanine have been very busy quilting. I love all of the panels and the charity quilts. I have many of the same patterns, Jeanine, but mine are not yet made!! Very windy here today and went from 51* this AM to about 36* now. Cold. Our kids and some of the grandkids will be here tomorrow. Bob Evans started pitching in 3 years ago and we love it. We make the extras that everyone loves, but Bob does the turkey, ham, potatoes, stuffing, apple and pumpkin pies, etc etc. Everything we need. Our daughter makes better rolls than Bob and our son brings a chocolate pie. It is always fun to have the four “giant children” grandchildren here. They are now 24,23,22, 21 and hilarious.
We just finished helping our good, good friend clean out her daughter’s house; she is the one who passed at 54. It was really hard and a lot of work, but it is done. Our friend is a widow and it has been really hard. All of her kids and grandkids and great grandkids will be together tomorrow so that will help.
I hope everyone has a safe and tasty Thanksgiving. PS Rocket Man is fitting in nicely in his new home with our grand daughter. He loves it there:)

    Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Thank you all who sent me get well cards this past summer.
We finally have cooler weather now but storms really upset my 13 year old Ginny. Jack Russell. She’s a sweetheart, but lost her hearing and going blind. Sad.
Love all the animals and all the quikts.
Thank you Mart for the blog.
    Hugs to all,
Sherry Ware in Texas where’s it’s finally cooler. ❤️

Sherry – it might be cooler there but here “it’s winter!” Haha! Evidently you’re feeling better and we’re all glad!

The quilts are all wonderful and I always love kitty pictures. My daughter was in “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” when she was 11 or 12 and our civic theater put it on. Great story! We drove from east central Indiana today and just got to our destination in Madison, WI. Our daughter and her husband are driving down from Duluth tomorrow, and my sisters should arrive soon from Ann Arbor, MI. Our son is a medical resident and only gets Thanksgiving day off, so we all came here so the family can all be together. Evan and his girlfriend Jessica live in a 1-bedroom apartment too small for 8 people, so we’ll be eating at a brewpub that always does Thanksgiving dinner. First time in 40 years I don’t have to cook/host! Hurray! I’m a little nervous about driving home Saturday as there’s snow and wind in the forecast, but we packed the car with emergency supplies just in case. Everybody enjoy your Thanksgiving, whatever you may be doing!

Sue – how wonderful of all of you to make the sacrifice to drive to the son who has only the day off! Nice family connections there. Yes, you will need to watch the weather closely – it feels bitter cold here because of the wind chill. I’m already sick of worrying about winter driving!

Such wonderful pictures and nice ways to use up scraps and panels. I love everyone here for sharing their ideas and pictures for us to see. And I also love seeing how these kitties and doggies we’ve seen through the years grow up and still bring smiles to our faces when we see a new picture.
Had my fall quilts on the line to air out before I start Christmas decorations and I could see a dark cloud looming off to the west. Sure enough within a few minutes of me taking my quilts off the line, it starts to pour and the wind gusts started. Nice to be inside making some food. Will finish cooking more tomorrow as we always have the Macys Thanksgiving parade on to watch.
    Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Wonderful quilt show today!! Such talent on this blog. Thanks for all the ideas.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  6. Sharon F

Wonderful quilt show today! I especially like Lucky Stars and the house quilt. Both look like a pretty way to use up scraps.

I think I will finish quilting a table runner today, and hope to get as far as attaching the binding by machine.

Happy Thanksgiving eve to Mary and all of her readers. Mary, we’re thankful for you and the effort you put into your blog.

  7. Gail in Ohio

Great photos – thanks for sharing!!
Making pumpkin roll today and hope to get a little time at my sewing machine.
I’m looking forward to some good food tomorrow and leftovers for a few days… hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving!

  8. Hank's Mom

LOVED those 2 baby quilts. What a great way to take panels and add such interesting borders to really make the quilt pop. Thank you for the inspiration. We have a new great grandchild coming in April so I’m looking for good ideas. This will have to be a farm or cow theme since that fits our grandson’s occupation. They live 1/4 mile down the road and it will be their first baby so we are all pretty excited. They are not going to find out the gender. That’s the ‘new’/old way I guess. 🙂

    P.S. Hank loves babies!

    1. Sally in NV

Congratulations! The new old/ way! 😂 I didn’t like the new way until I became an ultrasound tech, then it was fun seeing the parents excitement when they could see the baby! Now we are spoiled and don’t want to go back to the Old Way! Happy Thanksgiving and give Hank a squeeze 🤎

Penny & Lucy are beautiful! Both of the Atkinson patterns are super easy. I’ve made both a number of times. Lucky Stars can also qualify as a QOV. Both quilts are very easy for beginners. I’ve taught classes for both in the past. Terry does a great job with her instructions! We have 50-60 mph winds here today in SW Ohio, that should take care of all the leaves!! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!

  10. Fran Dixon

Great quilts this morning. Lucky Stars is one of my favorite pattern. I think I might just make another one using primitive fabric that I have been saving. My first Lucky Stars was made using batiks.

Just what I need–another project! But I can’t help myself.

Mary, you sound exhausted. Your day was full like many of your days are.

  11. Sheryl Harrison

I missed the Best Christmas Pageant Ever when it was at our theater. I think I was out of town. I looked for it a few times on my TV (I have an Amazon Firestick) and the only options are to buy or rent. BUT I want to thank you for telling us about Everybody Love Raymond. I found it on Paramount + last night and loved it!

    Penny and Lucy are beautiful.

  12. Bernadette in NE Iowa

All the quilts are great today, they put a smile on my face. I will have to try the star quilt with the colorful sashing. I have done a star quilt before but not like that. Mary, Rick, and all the blog readers, I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.

  13. Diana in Des Moines

    Great quilt show today!
Penny and Lucy could be my Pepper’s sisters!
So windy last night, snow on the way. Glad I don’t have to go anywhere this weekend. Elliott, Leah and our son Jimmy will be here for dinner, then I have the whole weekend to sew, or read, or watch Netflix. Choices, choices!
    Thanksgiving blessings to all! 🦃

  14. Rita In Iowa

Great quilt show. The talent that everyone has is inspiring. Very windy all night and temps are falling, Glad that things are done outside. But probably will have brush to pick up in the yard at some point. The cat pictures are wonderful. Glad they are pals.

  15. Sally

Penny and Lucy Dempsey amaze me. I have had many cats which tolerated one another, but never a bonded pair. They are so pretty too.
The quilts are all beautiful. Jeanine, your charity quilts are always lovely.

    1. Jeanine from SE Iowa

Sally – Thank you for the compliment. I have so much fabric and my family doesn’t need anymore quilts so I really enjoy making them for charity. I choose simple patterns as I want to enjoy the process and not get frustrated over making them.

      1. Sally in NV

Jeanine, I’m with you! A simple, pretty, cozy quilt. Enjoy the process and enjoy the giving 🥰 Happy Thanksgiving

  16. Jeanie S, Central IL

Wonderful quilts! I am putting several on my “to do” list, especially the house quilt. Winnie the Pooh always makes me smile.
It is also windy here, Mary. Our gusts are 39 mph.
    Happy Thanksgiving! 🍗🥧😋

  17. Jo in Wyoming

Enjoyed the pictures tonight too. I always enjoy the post and pictures.

I got an alarm for one of my tire sensors. I made an appointment and spend an hour getting that fixed. They “relearned” the dash so the alarm would stop. Great service. I went out and started the car…now I have a “low battery in key fob, replace soon” alarm!! Brother what next?

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jo / when my key fob battery was low I went to the dealer first who said they don’t do that. Had to go to a Batteries Plus store

  18. Sandy

Hi Mary, Penny and Lucy look like my sons 2 cats he bought over from Taiwan after finding them by a rubbish bin aged 3 weeks old. Expensive street cats l call them! Kinky the male, is very muscular and rules the neighborhood, Welly the girl is always on the bed,so soft ,but not cuddly. Great photos today, take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

    1. Pamela Dempsey in Northeast Texas 😻

Hi! Yes, Penny and Lucy are sisters! We adopted them at 9 weeks old from a Tortoise black and orange mama at the SPCA. Mama has feline FIV disease so it was passed on to her 5 kittens. They are healthy and are inside kitties only. They have been such a great comfort after losing my Emily 🐈‍⬛, at 15. Penny has the large ginger patch on her nose, is a little bigger and enjoys taking my shoe or slipper in her mouth and off to another room. Lucy is smarter, talks more and is well behaved. We would be lost without them!
