Fabulous Fall, 10-16-24

Patti’s travels

Can you believe this?

I have just finished reading all of Margaret ‘s birthday cards. Thank you, thank you for wishing her a happy birthday with a card. She was tickled and loved reading your notes – I loved it, too – in fact I learned details about your lives that I didn’t know. I had no idea lots of you watched our church service from time to time. You were very complimentary to Margaret and me – thank you. See you in church!

Sadly the Lynx lost tonight in a bizarre last second shot by Sabrina Ionesco, NY Liberty. I would describe it as a Caitlin logo three. Shocking.

I’ll be posting a Hank report tomorrow night as I’m going to visit him.

The copier is back at Staples. Hmmmm….now what?

Lovely pictures today! Teresa your quilt is beautiful! When I lived the pumpkin centerpiece.
I read up on the Cadillac graveyard. Couldn’t believe how many times those cars have been repainted only to be covered up in graffiti. It was installed in 1974. Different years with the evolving fins on display. Even was moved at one time.
Lovely moon last night.Golden coming up as the sun set. Simple things make me happy.
Plan on visiting a quilt shop and a craft store on Saturday.

Enjoyed seeing all the fall decorations. Liked the picture of the poodle on the bed that has a dog bed on top but she’s laying on the pillow of course. Finally brought my plants in last night because a frost was predicted. Then next week is supposed to be in the 70’s.

Mary – I can relate to your copier/printer issue. I had an old epsom that lasted 12 years. It made it through a lot of good times and bad times. And then about a month ago, it got a paper jam. I tried for days to un-jam it and finally gave up. The screws to undo the back of it were too small and too far inside to turn. I borrowed a small screwdriver but I just couldn’t do it. I’m not even sure if I could have undone the jam if I’d been able to get it loose. I had to have a couple of “ice teas” one night because I was so frazzled! My late husband had a newer Wi-Fi Epson printer/copier so I got it going. The ink containers are opaque so it’s impossible to see the ink levels even with a flashlight. Every now and then I get a message to check the ink levels. So I put in ink. Every time it gets ready to print I get an error message that says it cannot print the document and then it prints. When printing I have to make sure the set up is exactly right or the printed copy is messy with lines through it or smudged or faded words. Printing or copying in color is a waste of time. It will only print in Magenta. Pink. I’ve done maintenance and cleaning numerous times, but it’s still the same outcome. It’s crazy! 🤪 I’m going to get a different copier. When I figure out which one, I’ll let you know.

Just love the photos today. Thank you for sharing. Later today I’m going to a thrift store with a friend and then we’re going out for an early dinner, also known as linner. Between lunch and dinner.

Can’t wait for Hank update. 🐶

    Happy autumn to all.
    Take care everyone.

I love all the fall decor; this is my favorite season. I don’t mind wrapping up in a quilt in the evening; but yesterday morning, it was 60 in the house. It is hard to get much done being cold, so Herb (also cold) made the big decision. Hooray for heat!!
I want to sew , but I still need to turn apples into applesauce. The fabric will be there next week.
Patti-Florida, I am keeping you close to my heart, as you await having a biopsy.
    As Always, Thanks Mary 🥰

I love seeing everyone’s Halloween decorations! Amazon allows you to choose printers by maximum paper size. I searched for printer scanner copier all in one, then on the left side clicked 11 x 17. Good luck!

I love seeing the fall decorations. I am visiting with my daughter in MN right now and seeing all the fall harvest and pumpkin roadside sales is so much fun. Much different than what you see in Southern California where my home is.

What a wonderful array of photos. Curious about the grossly painted junk or? Ugly Is it considered art?

Fall is here and it’s wonderful. Very windy today. I have someone coming to repair the garage door. The release to open it manually broke off. And the wind rattles the door so needs to be tightened I think

Still cleaning in my sewing room. But taking a break today from it although I will be there! I need to sew. I am getting grumpy over not sewing with a machine.

Here’s a quote I have for you Fran which is how I feel on days like yours…..
“I am a witch when I cannot stitch”. I know just how unbalanced I feel when my hands are doing something other than stitching for couple days.

A windy windy day today again. Today is supposed to be the worst. Jay is going to blow off the combine today, for lack of something to do I think 😂😂. He will get rid of a layer of dirt anyway, he has abut 35 acres left.
I have an appointment to get the results of my Dexa scan. Now what, is my thought!
I had a tooth pulled yesterday that could have been fixed if I wanted to remove the cap, fill the cavity, have a root canal possibly, and put on a new cap. I chose to have it pulled and put in an implant! I have other implants that I love! I spent a lot of money on some root canals that went bad and that is why I made the decision.
Thanks for all The pictures! Have a good day! Looking forward to pictures of Hank!

Enjoyed all of the fall decorations in today’s photos. In regards to your printer, I was going to suggest that perhaps you can have copies made at Staples or your local library. I know it’s an extra step and I don’t know if those would be options for you as I know you live in a rural area, just a thought. Technology seems to make everything so much more difficult .Crazy. Our overnight temps in our part of NH were in the 30’s and willl be in the high 50’s today. We are going to have temps in the 70’s over the weekend and into next week. Looking forward to that!

    1. patti

ginger, i’m curious as to where you live in new hampshire? my daughter lives in weare, nh. appears to be in the middle of nowhere. thanks. patti in florida

People are so creative with their fall and Halloween displays. I love the variety of Halloween quilts. The display of turquoise jewelry is amazing. And Teresa, your quilt is such a lovely set of color and design. Outdoor work today is in my plans as it is to be about 70 degrees and sunny. We got our garden largely cleaned off yesterday. May finish that work today. I have some watering to do as we haven’t really had rain since late August. That has been an every 3-4 day task for me, but with the garden mostly gone it won’t be so much. I do want to keep my mums going.

Mary, Regarding your copier, a while ago, I went on Hewlett Packard website and bought a ‘printer’ instead of ‘copier’. I got on their ‘chat’ help line and asked if the machine I wanted could be used only for printing and not attached to my computer. They were real helpful so I bought it and am happy enough with what I bought. When I looked up their website, I couldn’t find any reference to paper size on any of their machines so maybe it won’t work for you but it might be worth a try. It’s so frustrating to want something that seems so simple but our ‘new’ technology won’t let it happen. It’s fortunate that our library is close and for a few cents I can copy anything a little out of the ordinary and be happy. It would be awful if you can’t make copies in larger sizes. Good luck.

    1. Mary Ellen

We only have Hewlett-Packard. They seem to have the best support system. If you have Best Buy near you, they’re great… we joined the Geek Squad for the yearly fee. They help repair/ support things even if not purchased there. I’ve had the 11×17 size for printing Little Quilts patterns.

      1. Kathy in NY

Mary Ellen, the pumpkins you and Alice decorated for an upcoming event were amazing. I loved seeing them. Thanks again for Little Quilts and all we enjoy with them. You and Country Threads are our oldies but goodies!

Great blog tonight everyone. Some wonderful fall decorating. The fall is my favorite time of year but for some reason I have never collected a lot of Halloween decorations but that’s okay because I don’t want to put them out and take them down again. Theresa in Indiana, your quilt is great. It looks like quite a challenge to put it together. Patti, I am so sorry to hear about your doctor visit and now a biopsy coming up. Keep us posted. You sure are a fighter. Patti’s travels sure are eye opening to new adventures so thank you for sharing. For me, I couldn’t sleep ‘again’ so I’m at the computer when I should be cleaning something. Oh well, later. Have a good day.

the photos of the fall decorations, pumpkin centerpieces, quilts – they are all so festive. i love them all. thanks so much to all of you for sharing with us.
cool, patti went to new mexico to see all the turquoise, i think the hot air balloons are in new mexico (but maybe arizona). and the cadillac graveyard – pretty sure it is in west texas. you go, girl. visiting everywhere. your poodle looks so regal.
today was a bummer day for me. quilted the first part of the border and liked it so well, i decided to make it a ribbon. no dice. blew the tension. spent the trip to doctor and while waiting ripping out all the stitches. at least now it lies flat again and i can do something different.
seems i have to have a biopsy and i don’t know how i feel about that – a bit scared – mostly unsure. guess we’ll find out, they are supposed to call and let me know when. while this was going on, i turned around in my ‘transport chair’ (glorified name for a small wheelchair that i only use for going to doctor) and ripped the skin off my arm. they took almost 25 minutes to find a bandaid only to discover it wasn’t large enough. and i’m supposed to be reassured. the nurse was wonderful. and i like the people here just a rough day.
hope everyone has a good night’s sleep. temps dropped to 65 at 11 pm. could be in the 50s in the morning. i told mr. ed it feels nice and crisp out there. naturally he was cold. oh well, he cannot turn on the heat. i have spoken! ha, we’ll see who wins. but it is supposed to be 80 by friday. patti in florida

Patti – oh my dear, another struggle for you. You have a cold husband, too, huh? I’m so tired of having the furnace running!!! Already!

    2. Susan in AL

Miss Patti — are you usually too warm too? I remember telling my husband that until he could experience hot flashes in August in Alabama he was not to touch the thermostat. I must have been fear-inspiring, because I have been Queen of the Thermostat for the past however long. Temperatures in the 50s sound deliciously refreshing!

{{ hugs }} to you while you sort out the medical things and prayers for the very best outcome.

      1. patti leal

yeah, why is it that husbands are always cold and we are always hot. mr. ed has a small blower type heater in the bedroom facing his side of the bed. i asked him how cold he was and he said the ride to work was really warm. to each his own, right. patti in florida

Princess Samantha does look so regal ensconced on her bed! All she needs in a romance novel and a box of bon-bons to complete the look. Thanks to everyone who has been sending Mary pix of fall/Halloween decorations and quilts, of course. It’s been like going to a craft/quilt show every day. Much appreciated. DH will be having cataract surgery soon. I don’t expect any complications, but is there any advice on coping with new stress? I don’t drink ‘iced tea’, but maybe some really good chocolate will do the trick!
Mary, I laughed when you said you didn’t start any new geraniums from the trimmings! I haven’t tried that for ages, but I have been known to gather the last blossoms, pop them in a mason jar and keep them on my windowsill for a week. Just too pretty to toss out. Have a good week, everyone, and enjoy the supermoon/Hunter’s Moon tonight (Thursday). It should be visible in the east starting just after sunset. Kris

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Kris – haha!!! I have two mason jars with cuttings!! Just couldn’t throw them away just yet.

      1. Kris in WI

Mary, I applaud you for giving in to saving the cuttings. I noticed one of your succulents had little leaf shapes along the edges of the larger leaf/stem. I’ll bet each of those would root and grow, too! It’s a lovely day in SCWI. 60*, sunny, with a nice breeze. No sign of rain for the next week and our maple trees are glowing with gold and orange. So pretty! One of these days I’ll get a “fancy” phone and be able to share pix. Prayers continue. Kris

What a beautiful display of fall and Halloween decorations! That white poodle is beautiful. He/she looks regal and refined. Thanks so much for a great post!
