More Fall Photos, 10-18-24

If I fits, I sits!

Hank is handsome as ever and lots of energy pent up after being quiet for 4 weeks while he heals. I feel so bad for him – he was too wild when he saw me – jumped around and laid upside down for belly rubs. He just wants to go outside and run and run and run – which he can do in 2 weeks. He and Keeper can rassle and play again and we are all waiting anxiously for that day. We want Hank to come and stay with us again!

So here’s a smile to send you on your way today:

    Mary,
Wow, loved all the photos today. Halloween is a favorite of many of us. I’ll be leaving for home tonight when my daughter and husband get back from the wedding they attended out East. The dogs and cats have been great. I did plenty of yard work and mowed their lawn. I’m putting dinner in the crockpot for them.
I will add my best wishes for all readers who are having health concerns. Take care

Really enjoyed the post. Hard to keep a dog down and quiet. Our Sam has a torn CCL and we have had6 months of being his crutch but he is coming back 120%. Atmospheric river here in British Columbia means some good times sewing inside. Have had 2 bouts with cancer, all well- they can do so much nowadays, hang in there and one day at a time. Love to everyone Elaine

Somebody loves Halloween!! Thanks for sharing all the photos.

My wonderful neighbors came over and blew out the sprinklers. They found valves I didn’t know I had. They got cinnamon rolls for breakfast.

Loved all the pictures today, makes me feel super lazy because I don’t do anything to decorate except indulge in a couple of pumpkins for outside the doors. It looks and feels like fall here, leaves are falling, colors are fantastic, cool mornings and sun warming the days to the 60s.

Hank is beautiful, it has to be so hard for him to be still. He is really brown which is unusual to me for a golden, but I always thought our Maggie was odd, she was an English white golden and now Mr. Nelson is a black golden doodle.

I don’t think that is 3 in the box, he has too much orange for 3, but it’s cute anyway. Bette is a box cat, every box open, there she is, she seems to have a sense for when I get something in a box and when I sew or trace applique. She thinks she helps with sewing and tracing but the most I can count on is her carrying off a piece of fabric, a spool of thread or even a pencil. I think one of my machine feet went down the furnace vent because I moved every inch of furniture and it never turned up.

Enjoy fall everyone. My sister will be here soon for our fall retreat so I need to scurry! Blessings.

So many happy quilts, displays, and pets. Can’t beat that. Yard work again today, but beautiful weather to do it in. I hope to choose fabric for another small quilt project.

  6. Kimmy girl, from southeastern Ohio

Love the pic of the toe truck, so cute! To Mary, Patti in Florida and other readers dealing with health issues and concerns, we’re all praying for you and hoping for good outcomes.
Sorry I’ve been silent for a bit, life stuff going on, was sick with the flu or something for a few days, all better now, thank goodness. Didn’t do much blog reading or anything for a few days. When I did read the blog, didn’t feel like responding. So much eye candy to get caught up on. Love all the fall pics, so glad Hank is doing better and Three is watching out for you, Mary.
Mary, I saw where you had posted your cell phone number in response to someone having trouble sending pictures to you. Could I send (text) pictures to you to post on the blog? That I know how to do, can’t figure this other stuff out, computer illiterate

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Kimmy – of course you can text pictures to me! My phone number has always been listed in the right hand column. I sometimes have trouble moving them from text to photo page but let’s try it. I’ll watch for your text – don’t just send as a phone number that I won’t recognize – include your name, please.

Could Three look any cuter all snug and cozy? I love him.
All the Halloween decor is amazing.
Today, we had lunch with our granddaughter who is 20 and a college junior. She lives in a campus house with three roommates, one cat, and one dog. We felt honored to receive a tour, which meant they had to spiff up a bit—love her. She is two hours west of us, so we had a great sunny ride through the beautiful fall countryside. I think our peak is still at least a week away.
I hope everyone has a nice weekend. Thanks, Mary 🥰

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jeanie – I don’t think it’s very pretty around us probably because of the drought. Would be fun to be around a college junior –

      1. Jeanie S, Central IL

She is lots of fun! After we left, she was going to bake for her sorority’s bake sale. Their kitchen is good sized and seems to see a lot of action. I would love to be a little mouse.
Since she is only two hours away, we are always available, if her busy parents need us to pinch hit.

  8. Sharon F

So many pictures of cute fall and Halloween quilts and decor! Thanks to all for sharing them.
Hugs to Patti, Mary, and Pamela while they’re dealing with health issues.
I went to a regional quilt show in Spokane today; it was great! Lots of beautiful quilts. It’s so much fun to see that much creativity all at once, if a little overwhelming.

  9. patti

awesome photos today. thanks to everyone for decorating for me to enjoy. i will be looking at these for days. i have always loved those ‘op ed’ type cats but never bought the pattern. does anyone know if it is still available or the name? i loved the black cat with the weird eyes sitting in a bucket with a cat in a vest on the front. of course, there can’t be witch parking without toads. it’s a given. my daughter never really cared for halloween – probably cause i love it so much. she did enjoy handing out the candy, tho. i don’t enjoy that any more (more health tho).
mr. ed ran around all afternoon and got disks with my scans and doc notes since 2017. we will deliver them on monday. i read through them all and i didn’t see any glaring items but i’m not a doc.
i did get the binding on the quilt i finished yesterday. i did not piece it, only quilt, bound and labeled. i will send a pic to mary as i’ve forgotten to do that. want to play with her pumpkin pattern but didn’t have the energy after i got the binding done.
my prayers are with all of mary’s readers with health issues and with mary, of course. we will all do as He wishes and carry on with our lives. i stitch and quilt for others as my family has more than enough of my quilts. even the nurse commented that i was so enthusiastic about what i do (quilting/piecing) and could see how frustrating it is that the body doesn’t want to cooperate. who else will honor my fabric stash the way i do?
hugs to all, patti in florida

Patti – I love it! “Who will honor my fabric stash the way I do” – well said.

  10. Connie R. In Wis

Thanks to everyone who shared their quilt and fall decorations. I so enjoy looking at all the pictures.
We had a couple frosty mornings but, 70’s predicted for the next few days. We sure could use some rain. Our colored leaves are past peak and, windy days are taking care of many of the remaining ones. It’s been a beautiful fall.

  11. Carolyn in NE Illinois

Beautiful fall/Halloween decorations today. Always loved 3! I think he’s so photogenic and always finds a place near you! Beautiful fall day today in Chicagoland. Take care!

  12. Kathy in western NY

Such happy photos of fall arrangements. I didn’t put out much this year like I normally would so it’s enjoyable seeing everyone’s displays and quilts.
I went to a quilt show about 40 minutes drive and it was so nice. Lovely quilt guild members with a variety of quilt styles. I enjoy the collage images as much as the wool applique quilts. I didn’t need another kit or any fabric from the vendors but I did buy handmade items from the guilds boutique which I will use for gifts. I bought myself a beautiful apron with handmade fabric binding for only $10. The fabric alone is worth more. It was a nice sunny warm day to appreciate what I love to see and support.

  13. Tina W in Oregon

Loved all the Fall/Halloween decorations in today’s post. There used to be a “toe” truck in Seattle. Not sure it’s there now. I made your acorn squash recipe last nite Mary and my hubby proclaimed it a keeper! So thanks. It was 32° this morning and has turned out to be a beautiful fall afternoon. My favorite time of year.

  14. Pat in AZ

Hi honey, I’m home! Just back from another wedding in Oregon and getting caught up on posts I’ve missed. What great fall decorations, plants and quilts. And of course all the pets. Thanks for sharing everyone!
Hopefully I will be home for the rest of the year and can actually get something done in my quilt shop. I’ve missed it so much.
    Take care everyone!
Pat in AZ, where it’s only in the 70s today. Woot woot!

  15. Jan in AZ

Wow – a plethora of orange and black Halloween displays and fun humor! Oh, the things I could/should make with my Halloween material scraps. It all makes me smile. Loved seeing Hank.

  16. Jeanne in Co.

Wow! What a fun blog of everyone’s Halloween displays. The toe truck is so cute. But I loved “The witch parking only, everyone one else will be toad”. I almost didn’t see the line of printing under the witch. Did any of you miss seeing the punch line? Hank is such a beautiful dog and it is so great that he knows and greets you so affectionately, even after not seeing you for a while. I’m jealous, I miss cuddling my little Shih Tzu, Abby so much, even though it’s been nearly a year since she died.
Patti in Fla., please keep us up to date on your health. We all love you and are praying for you. The same with you too, Mary – and all the rest who have health problems. It has turned a bit cooler here in Co., fall is definitely here. It’s flannel shirt weather, for sure. Have a blessed week everyone.

  17. Pamela Dempsey in Northeast Texas 😻

Love all the Halloween 🎃! Has always been my favorite holiday! Hank is so handsome and is that three in the box? 😻 I go to the cardiologist today and hope he can help with my high blood pressure 😕

      1. Pamela Dempsey in Northeast Texas 😻

I enjoyed meeting the cardiologist, he was very nice, explained what he thought and didn’t rush to the next patient. He added spironolactone and an aspirin to my other 3 meds for high blood pressure. I go back in 3 weeks. He said I have a heart murmur and will do another test next time.My heart is being stressed. I go back to the nurse I’ve been seeing Wednesday morning and get a mammogram later that afternoon. I need to schedule a colonoscopy 😕. I will be glad to get the appointments over with. I wish I had a Hank ❤️!

  18. Jan Hebert in MA

Aw, Three in his box, and handsome Hank! Two weeks seems like an eternity, but it will be over before you know it! Love all of the Halloween decor – especially the Ouija board and the small quilt under it! I have to find the quilt I made last year, forgot about that! Been really nice here in MA, I’m heading to NH tomorrow for a few days with a good girl friend I’ve known for forty something years. Weather looks good! Jan in MA

  19. Brenda in Georgia

I forgot to mention how much I love the ‘Witch Parking All Others Will Be Toad”. I need to put these on some cars that park annoingly. I also love the beautifunl feline asleep in the box.

  20. Brenda in Georgia

Wow, all those decorations and quilts are just amazing to me. I have never decorated too much for Halloween, and I just love all these things people must have collected over the years. Hank is so adorable. I must have been asleep and missed what has put him on “bed rest” ?

    1. Hank's Mom

      Brenda,
Hank had torn cartilage in his left shoulder. Called OCD. Common in large breed dogs that grow quickly, of which he fit the description perfectly. No idea when it happened but one day when he was about 6 months old he was gimpy on his left front and it got progressively worse. We could tell after playing hard that it would hurt worse. The good news is there are orthopedic canine surgeons as well. Just like humans, we had to wait 60 days to get him in, but of the 8 weeks of restrictions, we are down to 13 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He’s acting fine now.

      1. Brenda in Georgia

Oh, thank you so much for telling me about what happened to Hank. He is so adorable. I hate to think of his being hurt. I would love to be able to give him a hug, so please give him one from me.

        1. Hank's Mom

Brenda, I’ll give Hank a hug from Brenda!!! I hope you like your ears licked because that’s his favorite place to show his affection. 🙂

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Brenda – he had a torn cartilage in his shoulder which is common in large breed dogs who grow so fast. Surgery was successful and he can’t wait to run!!

      1. Brenda in Georgia

Thanks, Mary, for telling me about Hank. I can hardly wait to see when he can play again. I wish I could have a Hank!

        1. Mary Etherington Post author

Brenda – he is just a lovely dog but I can’t have a dog with long hair because of all the burrs in my grove. His coat would always be a mess.

  21. Colleen in Central Oregon

Handsome Hank! We woke up to a dusting of snow in our yard yesterday morning. The puppies were sure excited about it. Me, not so much. I’m not ready yet. I’m putting laminate flooring in my studio now. Hope to have it done by the end of the month. I can only do so much each day since it requires crawling about on my knees. Thank goodness for knee pads!

  22. Sue in Oregon

Fantastic photos today. The Halloween decorations, the quilts, just everything. It really puts me in the mood. Great job, everyone who contributed.
Hank is beautiful and the Toe-truck so funny.

  23. Shirley Andersen Smith

That Hank is a handsome boy.
Snow in the mountains here in Central Oregon. We are happy.
    Shirley
