Casey came today and started on cleaning flowerbeds – he’s got great equipment and lots of ambition. Things are looking better around here. But now I feel so good I should be doing it myself.
The Fever won today but I really wanted to watch more of Caitlin – I understand it’s preseason however.
Here’s what I bought yesterday – not too much yet.

People have asked me for years if my cats don’t bother my plants and I’ve always said no but now I have Snoopy Mortie. Soon the plants will move outside for the summer. This sunroom will feel huge!
I did take some quilt pictures today but the lighting just wasn’t quite right so I’ll try again tomorrow.
I’m on my own at church tomorrow – Margaret is gone. I’m thinking it might be quilt dedication Sunday.
As I closed up the barn tonight about 7:30 I was walking back to the house and I glanced to the west and there in the pond area was Hayrack just strolling lazily towards the barn. So back I go to open the barn again for her to get in for the night. She is something else! I wonder if I could tame her to come to me. Rick says not after I locked her up with those crazy kids!!!
Two quilts from the Akron Quilt Expo:

This went on in the porch today – too funny!

I ordered flea and tick tags for the dogs’ collars this year because I hate putting those strong chemicals on their skin and in their system. How can it be good for them? But the tags are not here yet and since we go in the grove and the field every day several times, the ticks are bad. I’ve never removed so many ticks from Hazel in her life. I’m regretting my decision. Part of the problem is her long hair – she has a grooming appt but not for another 10 days.
Anybody recognize this butt?

And then there’s Scarlett – Becky and I are in love with her!

Here’s a tease for tomorrow if I can get a good picture which this one isn’t.

Whew! And I always wonder what I have to say!
Signed,
Windy

Cats and plants. My house mate had a cat. One day I came home to find my pot of little airplane plants had been “mowed.” After that I kept my bedroom door closed. Thanks for sharing all of the pictures of quilts, farm life and such.
Scarlett is a beauty. Saw a new Palomino foal on the way to town Sat. sound asleep. Will have to take that way again to see if it is awake.
Ha-ha! That cactus should be renamed “Great-Grandpa.”
Wow, beware of Mortie. She can be quite fierce. Her facial expressions could scare the bejabbers out of anyone. 🙂
Happy Day, all!
Wow, you’re right about the girl outside the chicken pen quilt! Impossible! I thought I was looking at a photo at first. Scarlett looks like an Arabian with that cute dishy face. What a beauty.
Holly – you’re correct – 1/2 Arabian and 1/2 Quarter Horse – you must have horses? Or have had?
The girl and chickens quilt is AMAZING! Just think of all the thinking, planning, and work that went into executing it. I think haystack hen is out for revenge for penning her up with the wild kids. lol
Martha – haha! That’s what Rick says, too!
Isn’t it great that we can enjoy quilt shows or photos from them? I don’t know that I would have the patience or where-with-all to make anything like that gorgeous quilt with the little girl at the chicken pen… wow!
I enjoyed all the other photos too – that’s quite a chore to move all those plants, but so worth it!
OH my–THANK YOU FOR THE BLOG, Mary. Some weeks are harder than others so it is great to be able to enjoy all of your farm work, adorable Hazel’s butt, inquisitive, cute Mortie, and that beautiful Scarlett. I grew up in a small town in NY with a Block Barn that was known for Arabian horses. The caretaker was a friend of my dad’s so he let us hang around.
I have loved all of the photos of different quilt shows. My friend went to Paducah, but did not send any photos. The one with the little girl looking at the chickens is amazing. WOW.
My husband is having surgery on Friday on the tendons which connect outside the hip. It is a short surgery, but a long recovery so I am hoping to get lots of quilts finished or started:)
Thanks again for a great break in the day:)
Oh, what a great post. Thanks so much. That Mortie is something else, and Hazel, of course, always is being Hazel, whom we love so much. The flea and tick meds always bothered me when I was able to have dogs and cats. I remember one time when I got an infestation in the house of fleas. The vet told me how to use that white powder to get rid of them. I can’t think at the moment what the powder was. It will come to me at some point. Anyway, I was just using the flea collars then and started using the meds on the skin. Both my dogs ended up having cancer and I always wonder if that was why. We love them so much and want to do our best for them.
Brenda, is the white powder you are thinking of called diatomaceous earth? I, too, hate putting the flea drops and/or collars on my dogs. 🙁
Wow, the quilt with the little girl looking at the chickens is amazing. Your chicks are growing so fast, soon they will be in with all the others. Mortie is very brave sniffing cactuses. Hopefully she doesn’t get any spikes in her nose.
Scarlett is growing every day. She is one week old and loves running in the grass field. She’s cheeky because sometimes she runs right towards mom then turns and bucks at mom. Scarlett never makes contact but she’s so funny. She’s exploring more in the field and yesterday decided not to follow mom so quickly into the field as she usually does. Typically Scarlett would follow mom so close they were almost touching. This time she stopped and started walking a different way. My son is going to start putting her halter on and using a lead rope. It is such a joy to watch her every day and see the changes and her personality come out.
I look forward to reading about your life each day and I marvel at your energy. I love seeing pictures of the animals you love and care for.
The quilt with the girl in a pink dress watching the chickens is amazing. I can’t imagine the talent necessary to bring that idea into a painting with fabric. And of course a pic of Hazel’s butt-love it! Mortie is certainly entertaining & she is lucky that she has a good playmate. When I looked out of my kitchen window yesterday I saw the horses in the pasture across the road running along the fence line with great joy. No colts but fun to see their exuberance
Nice pics and conversation this morning. Thank you. It entertains me with my coffee. Scarlett is beautiful! But all your animals are too. Just love it. I prefer this kind of thing to fakey things that people are into. I have to hold my tongue sometimes with the stuff people get hooked on and gloat for hrs over.
I came home Friday and leave again tomorrow for another retreat. Laundry is done. Stuff has remained in my car so just need my suitcase and personal stuff in the morning. No cooking for this one. I even got some sewing room time yesterday and hopefully again today for an hr or two.
The quilt of the little girl and her chickens…I’m speechless! Truly a masterpiece! LOVE!
Mary, Your quilt is stunning. What’s it’s name. Love everything about it.
Mortie really scares me getting so close to that cactus. Have seen plenty of pictures of dogs with cactus quills all 0ver their face. That first quilt is incredible and I love the colors in the others. Was that one of the new chicks? I’ve been watching eagle nests in Iowa and Big Bear, the eaglets are barely 1 month old and they are huge already. Got to watch a close up of a hummingbird nest but those smarty pants leave the nest in 3 weeks! At least I can watch the eaglets for 3-4 months before they leave home.
Belated happy birthday to Keeper!
