Hank’s Visit, 1-4-25

Hank and Keeper ran full speed for hours today.

I finally made them come in awhile to rest.

These pictures were taken tonight – both dogs are pooped!

I kept track of two wild dogs today and then made a few more red stars. That’s it.

Reader photos

I love her embroidery!!
These came to a reader in a Christmas card and here’s the result:
Self explanatory

Time to walk the dogs and check the barn.

Thank you! The charity quilts were just what I was hoping they would be. I’m beyond proud that you’ve accepted me into the “family” of Queen Mary.

Even though it only got to about 10 degrees yesterday, the sun finally was out so, it felt so much warmer. We have 14 degrees now with wind and cloudy skies which feels so cold. No snow predicted for our area. Everything went well south of us this time. A lot of inspiration in today’s quilt show to get me thinking about my next project. It’s going to be red as I was gifted fat quarters that I need to use.

I love that Hank and Keeper are such good buddies. i couldn’t help but wonder what little Miss Hazel did all day while the boys “rassled” for hours. Thank you for this blog Mary. It makes me smile everyday!

Ginger – Hazel is appalled at their antics! Watches but looks down her diva nose at them – ha!

    Mary,
Good Sunday morning to you! It’s cold here in SE Michigan. Went to let chickens out and Biscuit was barking at me through the bedroom window at my son’s house! With the holidays, they’ve been sleeping in so Biscuit hasn’t been barking at me but today they were up early. Ended up going for a walk with him but it was short because of the cold, only 7*. Brr.
I’m working on a fat quarter quilt from bundles of fat quarters I received for Christmas. Also, more cat kennel blankets with flannel and fleece bought in the remnant bin at JoAnns. Always look for cat fabric there!
Keeper and Hank are beautiful dogs. Looks like they had a great time.
All quilts beautiful today. My cousin is a Jimmy Buffet groupie and loved your quilts!! Wow, what you can do with those little triangles! Nice projects.
Have a great day everyone and Go Lions!! 🏈 🌻

Sunflower – I have another good friend in MI so I always cheer for the Lions. Cold here, too – didn’t let my chickens go outside – wind chill is way below zero

Love the parrot quilts. I am a bird fan! Loved the pic of the dogs playing outside.

Just a big threat! We got nothing overnight from the snow storm that everyone has been talking about.

Hated being in the city yesterday, Cracker Barrell was packed! We could not wait for a table and then wait forever for food that busy. Interstate 80 traffic takes the exit for Cracker Barrell. I did spend some $$ there however.

  6. Tanya T. in Houston

I totally agree! Definitely do NOT throw away those half triangles! I love them all and usually find a way to use them in scrap quilting for an unexpected surprise little interest.

And, Connie, I love your paper piecing! I lucked across a treasure of several rolls and packages for paper piecing at a local junk store. I have tucked them away for later as I am finishing up some Christmas cross stitch right now! I also found a great Christmas tree stamp needlepoint…the stamp was back when postage was 8 cents!

Jimmy Buffett must be smiling down…

Two very adorable dogs had a wonderful day together. What is better than that? As Jimmy Buffet said, “I’d rather die while I’m living, than live while I’m dead!” Another Parrot Head here. Pattern please for that wonderful quilt. I love all of his sayings on it ,too. COLD here, too, and expecting 4 or more inches of snow. Many people in Ohio are not great snow drivers so we will stay in tomorrow!! You’ve convinced me to make something with my little triangles, Mary

The parrot quilt is called Mango Garden. It’s a free quilt from Tilda’s World. tildasworld.com Go to Free Patterns, then to the Collections link. You have to click the “load more” button several times because there are so many amazing free patterns.

When downloading the blue background pattern, be sure to download the white background pattern too because the white background has the complete pattern. The blue background just has fabric selections.

Both of my sons are big Buffett fans and have been to many concerts. I made one son and a daughter-in-law shirts w/ jungles and parrots for them to wear to concerts. They named their daughter Delaney after one of Jimmy’s songs. My son got a mariner’s compass tattoo when he was in college. My other son has personalized license plates referring to what would Jimmy Buffett do.

When I found this pattern, I asked my sons which colorway was their favorite and I asked for favorite quotes and lyrics, then I picked a few favorites of my own to add. It took a long time to make this quilt because of the embroidery but it was so worth it on Christmas day.

Wow, Sheryl! Thanks so much for the very careful instructions. I will go there next. My husband would love one. We went to many, many concerts over the years. Our daughter’s “Father/Daughter dance” at her wedding was Little Miss Magic. It is about Jimmy’s daughter, Savanna. It made everyone cry because it is beautiful. I will take a photo of my husband’s Buffet Tee Shirt quilt. Lots of concert shirts!
        Thank you soooo much:)
        Diane
PS Mary, our “diva” is Squeak. She looks down her nose at all of us–lol.

        1. sheryl harrison

one more thing…i added a 2 or 2 1/2″ border b/c there are a lot of seams at the edges.

      2. Susan from AL

Thanks for the tip about downloading both patterns! I didn’t notice how much bigger the white one was, and I would have been surprised when I got to the making 🙂

        1. Sheryl Harrison

The quilts are the same size. The blue quilt doesn’t have the complete pattern, just the fabric list, so you need to white quilt pattern if you decide to make the blue colorway. I hope I’m explaining it to make sense.

          1. Diane, Squeak, Buddy in Central Ohio

            You are, Sheryl,
I am going to print out the directions tomorrow. I like your choice of colors better than Tilda’s so I plan to use color choices I have here. I do tend to have lots of fabric–ha!
It is snowing here now and some schools have already closed. We’ll see what we get
            Thanks, again.

Goodness gracious it’s so cold here this morning but I don’t think we are alone in our big country. My grandson is in Atlanta for the weekend and said it was 40/50 and was hoping it was warmer.
But the lovely pictures and wonderful comments on your blog just show all the warmth this group shares together. To be so energized like Hank and Keeper is enough to make you want to make the most of the day cause those 2 sure do when together.
I took the ornaments off the tree last night while watching a cute new hallmark movie about Ireland and three generations of women. So today after church, it’s clean up around here and home sewing during this wintery week ahead.
Onto making 25 quilts in 2025. Couple for me, couple for family and others to give away.

  9. Vicki in Iowa City

I enjoyed all the pictures today.
I have 8 quilts to choose from to start my quilting year. I lost my sewing mojo this fall, only doing 2 small projects. But even though I didn’t feel like sewing, I did cut out fabric for 8 quilts and put each in its own bag. Now I can pull quilts to work on that are already prepped. Yay! Late in 2024, a reader shared a picture of a three color quilt (bright pink, black, and gray) made of three pieces of fabric per block. I had some bright pink fabric that made me wonder “what was I thinking when I bought that?”. But when I saw that reader’s quilt I knew it was perfect. That is one of the quilts I pre-cut, so I think I may start with that this year. I look at the tiny pieces of the blue and cream quilt shared today and think, “Oh, my!”. It is gorgeous, but I did some one inch pieces last year and decided never again. Happy quilting everyone.

I love both of the Buffett quilts. So creative in both colorways. All the quilts are wonderful! Hank and Keeper are the best of buds! It’s 12 degrees here today. We are expecting snow tonight. It’s a good day to take down Christmas decorations or more likely sew. 😀 Stay warm everybody.

Hi Mary, we need to welcome Jamie to the dark side and dis cover a new language! Charity quilts are made to give to people in need after disasters,or homeless etc.Flying geese is a quilt block, maybe look at different quilt blocks on Google Jamie, or you tube videos of how they are made. Loved the blue runner on the window remote and coffee, the command center l would call it!(missing a pile of threads, scissors and hexagons! )Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

    1. Cindy from Minnesota

Sandy, I want to tell you what a beautiful quilt you made and shared with us, it was breath-taking, the different groups of quilt blocks, so beautifully done and perfectly lined up! It’s a Wow! Quilt for me! Thanks for sharing! Very skillfully done!

      1. Diane, Squeak, Buddy

Sandy, I agree. I didn’t get to add that to my comment yesterday, but I looked and looked at it. It is just stunning.

Love, love, love the Parrothead quilts! Always said I wanted to be Jimmy Buffett when I grew up. When he passed, I changed it to one of Mary’s dogs.

Always love seeing the fur babies!

    1. Jamie in AZ

I’m always amazed by what you ladies can create from tiny scraps of fabric. Amazing! Not being a quilter but someone who totally enjoys all the creative people here, I have 2 questions:

      1. What is a charity quilt?
      2. What are flying geese?

Thank you in advance for educating me.

      Hugs
      Jamie
