And a Happy Valentine’s Day to you too! I love the collections, I have a Valentine from my grandparents I got when I was about 10. It’s so special, I’m old and I remember getting it. It’s a 3D one and so beautiful.

Yes, Happy Valentines Day too all.
I must thank each of you for my Valentines, they are precious.
I think Hazel is upset her toy lost its squeak.
    What wonderful collections of Valentine’s.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jo – Hazel’s toy is called Chick Magnet which has a very annoying wheeze – so bad we can only play with it in the shop – says Rick. Hazel wants me to kick it, throw it, or engage in any way! Does Loretta like toys?

Thank you Mary for all the Valentine photos. Beautiful work on all of them. I hooked a Valentine pillow and gave it to a friend. My best Valentine was this evening, our granddaughter came for dinner. We had not seen her since Christmas. She and her husband live a couple of miles from us but are busy with work. She loves shepherd pie so that is what was for dinner along with, homemade rolls, homemade applesauce, raspberry pie and frosted Valentine sugar cookies. I sent enough back with her for another meal along with a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup. She loves to crochet and she had 2 friends that were having babies so she crochet a blanket for each of the babies. I am glad she is into crafts and I taught her at a young age to knit, crochet and beadwork. I was brought up by my Nana and she taught me how to do these things plus hook rugs. Happy Valentines Day. Carolyn – do you have a picture of your hooked pillow? I haven’t thought about hooking for years.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all! Love seeing all those hearts. I can’t wait to see that quilt with the red and white dog print off the longarm. Mary H: your Blackbird quilt is lovely! I am a big fan of their designs.

  11. Gloria from CC

Sometimes I wake up in the morning grumpy and then I read your blog from the night before and see a picture of Hazel that makes me laugh. She’s saying “mom, come play with me and bring treats!”
Love the picture of the two cats – cats make life look so cozy.
The reader quilts are fabulous and the collection photos are wonderful. Happy Valentine’s Day Mary and all your blog readers.❤️

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Gloria – between the hours of 5 and 9 Hazel should be on drugs! Just when I want to sit down and sew she comes alive – very demanding and annoying as well! Haha!

  12. Carmen M.

Such beautiful hearts today! Love the quilt you have on the longarm today! Of course Hazel is wishing you a Happy Valentine’s Day! And so am I, Happy Valentine’s Day Mary, hope you do something fun today!!

  13. Kathy in western NY

Delightful pictures and comments from readers. I’m thinking Hazel is wanting some more play time cause his toy stopped squeaking. Love the hearts and special older Valentines. I still have one my parents gave me as a child cause we had a box decorated and would put cards in it for our family meal that night. Through the years my mom use to say “don’t wait for special holidays to bring me flowers, bring them any day to me” and I think back to that when I see the huge displays of flowers in the stores right now. So hugs and love to you Mary and all your wonderful readers.

  14. Karen

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! The pictures today are so inspiring. I have my scrapbook my mom started for me when I was born with lots of cards & Valentines from aunts & friends that are fun to look at, they are vintage now! Remembering getting a shoebox decorated to receive all those little cards from classmates and your teacher at school. Great memories! Mary thank you for your dedication to the blog!!

  15. Sunflower from Michigan 🌻

Happy Valentine’s Day! Beautiful but cool day here in Michigan. Biscuit and I had a nice long walk already and he’s snoozing on the rug by the deck door. I’m sure he is waiting for a squirrel to pass.
Love the quilts and projects in today’s blog. The collections are impressive! Have a great day everyone! ❤️ ♥️

Enjoyed seeing all the Valentines! I am 81 today and feel very blessed. Family will be over this evening to celebrate and my wonderful daughter will be cooking the birthday dinner. She also made a homemade carrot cake!!
Happy Valentine’s Day to all and remember to honor Ash Wednesday.

Love all the old Valentines. I still have some tucked away in a drawer that were my moms. The homemade craft valentines are beautiful. The quilts are candy eye. Thanks for sharing. Finished a small Valentine quilt this week in Panama City Beach this week. Wish it was a little warmer though and less windy. Will send Mary a picture.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Love all of the hearts in the photos. Kim A’s collection of valentines is incredible! And I love Judith J’s collections of hearts – I’m going to have to make some hearts! I’ve never decorated for Valentine’s Day, but these pictures have inspired me! My daughter collects heart shaped rocks – she lives in Scituate, MA and the beaches aren’t sand, they’re smooth soft stones that have been tumbled by the sea. She has quite a collection! I’m heading to my first outpatient Physical Therapy appointment today. First time driving too! Wish me luck. Jan in MA

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jan – so how was physical therapy for you? Are you sore tonight? But you’re also able to drive again so you’re FREE!

      1. Jan Hebert

Sorry Mary, just reading this question. I’ve had a few therapy sessions now and yes, I’m sore after. But it’s a good kind of sore? I really think my legs are stronger than they were and get a little bit stronger with each session. Plus, I do the exercises at home and I think that helps too. Gradually I am taking less medication. I ran out of Tylenol so now I’m trying Advil. I’m not taking baby aspirin anymore as it’s only for the first month and so Advil is ok to take. I am really looking forward to having an “iced tea” soon! I haven’t had one since the surgery! Jan in MA

Jan – in our family Rick has several famous lines that we call Rickisms – here’s one you’ll love!
There’s not a pill made you can’t take with beer! Haha!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Mary! Love all the Valentine’s & the beautiful quilts! Like others I’ve never decorated for Valentine’s Day. Rita, we just spent 2 wks in Panama City Beach & agree it was pretty cool & very windy! A dear friend kept my dog while we were gone & even though he had a great time playing with her dog he’s keeping very close watch on me now! It’s the longest I’ve ever left him since I got him 5 yrs ago! Even though PCB was cool, my arthritis gave me no problem there! Now I’m back to reality! My doctor tells me to just keep moving & the medications have too many side effects. I occasionally will take Advil if the pain gets too bad. Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!

    1. Patricia E Campbell in AZ

The Midwest is sooooo hard on those of us with arthritis, isn’t it? We moved to Arizona 16 years ago for work during the 2007/08 recession [I went kicking & screaming so to speak…]. My joints do feel better here and so do my husband’s miserable sinuses. Not perfect, but better! I miss MI and my family so much though! Especially in the summer! HAHA

Happy valentines 💌 day Mary and to everyone! The blackbird design is beautiful 😻. Hazel is adorable.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY, everyone. I love that photo of Susannah and am so glad you put it on the cover of her book:)
The Valentines collections are wonderful. I love looking at everything everyone has sent in. When my husband is better and can DRIVE, I will send in some pics of some of my antique quilts made by my Nana and others. Right now I’m getting ready for the quilt retreat this weekend:)

Hazel is saying, “Play chicken toy with me, mom.” or else she is singing to you!
The quilt on the longarm is really neat and the sashing with the dogs is so cute.

  22. Patricia E Campbell in AZ

Happy Valentine’s Day, Mary! And also to everyone else!!! LOVE that gorgeous cutwork pillow and your quilt on the longarm too!!!

  23. Marian in Rochester

Hazel, with her pink mouth 👄, is wishing you Happy Valentine’s Day.
Love all the reader’s cupboards dressed in red. Beautiful and so enjoyable.

  24. Sherry

I always said I wanted a goat like that and then you told me once she was not a friendly goat. I was disappointed but she is still cute to me.
    Winter!! Haha

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sherry – she loved me but would butt anybody else – so not exactly mean but acting just like a goat!

  25. Kris in WI

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! The collections today were “heart-warming!” I had to look through everything 2 or 3 times to be sure I didn’t miss anything. Such pretty old-fashioned valentines. Loved the embellished hearts and the quilt with hearts and envelopes.
Hazel says, “Throw the chicken again, Mom! Farther than last time!” LOL. I can hear her barking directions!
45* here. Colder with a chance of rain/snow tonight into tomorrow, but it won’t be as bad as the 15.5″ of snow my brother got in CT! In all things give thanks. Kris

  26. Joy in NW Iowa

At 7:30 pm on the 14th, the ground is white!
    Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
Love all the pictures! Hazel is funny. My mom had a Maltese and it would always do zoomies in the evening!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Joy – I doubt we’ll get any snow – or rain for that matter – we’re afraid a drought is upon us and will only get worse.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Mareen – that’s exactly what she was saying – and in a very loud way, too!

Happy February the 15th! The days are whizzing by! I am cleaning and sorting scraps and fabric stash. I found two more block of the month squares. One has all 12 completed, the second one has only 11. I don’t know where the pattern and fabric is for #12, maybe I will find it in the inventory. Seems like today is a two steps forward and three steps back kind of day. It is a bright and sunny day here today. I think we got about 6” of snow yesterday afternoon and evening. I think it will warm up and the snow will go away. Hopefully most of this moisture will sink into the ground. I am also taking apart and re-sewing a quilt block for another block of the month from several years ago. Has to be from when we lived on the farm yet. If the class ended and there was no additional class to show completion, well, it didn’t happen for me…too busy. Hopefully I get thru these tasks today so I can work on the sashing for quilt #2 of now 4 potential quilts. This was my goal this winter to do UFO’s so I can enjoy sewing again. (I had to correct sashing four times).

Reading the ‘blog about nothing’ is wonderful (all thumbs up)! It brightens my day!
Mary, love the quilt on the longarm – is it a Villa Rosa pattern? Looks quick, love you fabric choices.
