Here’s that star pattern, 3-14-26

Yes, this star block is great because those star points can’t be cut off! Here are a few we’ve made thru the years and I’m sure there’s more.

4 and 5 can be replaced with 3-1/2” squares

Sorry about the reflection!
Mortie loves this little toy! We had to protect it from Hank who liked it in his mouth, too.

Do you think Hank missed his mom?

This is a great picture!

I think the storm is staying south of us.

Later – the joke’s on me – we’re under a blizzard warning. Church is cancelled. Guess the storm is coming our way after all. Not only did the chickens stay inside as if they knew something but the geese went into the barn tonite, too! Wow! Take a hint, Mary!

I really like the star pattern and yes no worrying about cutting off points. The first quilt is my favourite but I like them all.

I think the whole country is having crazy weather. We are having a heat advisory Monday – Friday. It’s supposed to be 91 on Friday. This is March! Kinda scares me what the summer will be like.
My daughter-in-law, granddaughter and I went on a quilt shop hop this week. Made it to all 9 shops and we had so much fun! Crazy time to go shop hopping with our high gas prices. I think the highest I paid was $4.89 and I have to fill it up again tomorrow.

    Love all those quilts, beautiful
yes, i guess hank missed his mom
    Mortie, adorable as always

Thank you for sharing the star block, its perfect for a QOV with a panel. We had over 10 inches this morning at 9am and more was falling. We did manage to plow out and will have to do it again this afternoon when it’s done. Sleet was covering everything and many businesses are closed for today and Monday. The DOT issues a weather advisory to stay home, they wouldn’t venture out to help you if you went into the ditch. Glad I can stay home, maybe its time to make some star blocks.

Love your blog and look forward to reading it each day. Good luck with your health problems. I am 84 so I can appreciate what you are experiencing.

I am not receiving the pictures which are always included with your email. This has been true for the last two emails.

  6. Sheila in WI

Oh! Thanks for the star pattern! I love it and appreciate your generosity.
Just sleet and freezing snow right now. The worst is supposed to come tonight.
    Take care and stay warm.

  7. Lorraine

I think Hank has a big, big smile while sitting on his mom’s lap.
Thank you for the star quilt pattern. I make charity quilts and this would be fun to make with scraps which I love.

We have had horrible winds, and we lost power for 4.5 hours on Friday. Yesterday was pretty calm and today, they are back with a vengeance! Stay safe, Mary. Animals are so much smarter than humans. Thank you for the star block pattern. I do believe that star blocks are my favorite type of block. And scrappy quilts are my favorite, too. Your quilt just calls to me as I love those colors and scrappy look. I tend to buy the fall type colors and Civil War prints/colors. As always, I love your blog about nothing. I enjoy ALL of the pictures that you post.

  9. Pamela Dempsey in Northeast Texas 😻

Miss Mortie is just adorable! Great shot of her and her toy. Hank is such a lovebug 😻.
I made it home safely from the quilt retreat in Broken Arrow,OK. The last hour of the drive was the hardest, so tired. I slept better on their couch than the bed. I brought my new/old Singer 301 and she sewed beautifully. More room than my featherweights. I replaced the felt pad, new led light and reinstalled the tension assembly and she was good to go. Now thinking of selling my featherweights 🤭.
Our power went out 3 times last night and our generator kicked right in, first time we have needed it since installed, thank you, Lord. We have gusty winds and storms forecasted today. I hope everyone stays safe ❤️

  10. Jo in cold, snowy and icy Wyoming

Well, we had a high of about 60 Saturday. This morning I got up to 12 degrees. Wind chill is -15 degrees!!
The news corresponds from Washington DC have green grass. The trees don’t have leaves, but the grass looks ready to mow.
The wind is blowing so hard, the power company has cut electricity to some customers due to high fire danger from downed lines. It’s brutal out there.
Yes, I think Hank was excited to see his mom. I also think he had a wonderful time with his buddy Keeper. Loretta is all over me when I come home from the grocery store. My grand dog has learned how to go down the stairs. All they have to say is “let’s go down” she can count how many steps before turning.
Mary, thanks for the pattern, stars are my favorite. Your color combination are so inspiring. I love seeing all the pictures and color combinations.
    Stay safe, warm and still.

I love the Stars on Parade! Many thanks for the pattern and photos! I started a Drunkard’s Path with all blue and whites…such fun!

  12. Sue in OR

Thank you for your wonderful star pattern, Mary. I love your star quilts. I love that triangle quilt too. Wondering who made that one?? Was it made with left over triangles or cut new?
Hoping you are okay this morning. Please be safe.

  13. Fran Dixon

So far here in SW Iowa, rain and wind. They still say snow later but radar shows little threat. I overslept this morning. My energy is low so it’s probably because of the weather.

I think this will be a good day for the sewing room.

  14. Elaine Kopischke-Trejo

Mary!! Thank goodness your pastor canceled! It is awful up here in St Croix Fslls, WI. Lots of wind – only about 3 inches of snow they started last night and still falling this morning but wontons really blowing everything around. Stay safe and warm. Chickens know best!!😂😂😂

  15. Diana in Des Moines

Hahaha. I loved the star pattern so much, I went to write down the directions. When I read further, there the was the photo on the pattern. I have that pattern! Yay! Add it to the list ….
Going to church now, but blizzard warning at 1pm. I will be snug in my sewing room for the duration. I have a roast to cook, and Netflix.
Stay safe everyone in the path.
    Sunday blessings

What a sweet picture of Hank and his mom. He is smiling!

The “Be Still” quilt in the 1st picture reminded me of something I wanted to share. I turn on YouTube on the TV when I am in my sewing room. YouTube has learned the kinds of songs I enjoy. One day a song played I hadn’t heard. It is beautiful and I repeated the song a few times. Have you heard Be Still and Know that I Am God by Josh Groban? He has several Be Still songs. His other Be Still songs are Be Still and Know and Be Still (Psalm 46:10). Be Still and Know that I am God is my favorite.

I love my Be Still quilt I made a few years ago. (The Country Threads pattern with the little houses)

We have blizzard and high wind warnings in southern Iowa. I am dog sitting my son’s 2 small dogs so I hope the weather won’t be as bad as predicted.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sheryl – no I have not heard Josh’s rendition but I’ll look for it.

  17. Joy in NW Iowa

Well, at 12:05 am I went to the bathroom…freezing something on the north windows. Now at 7:30 am I cannot see out if the north or east windows because they are completely iced! I can kind of see out the south in between the snow stuck to the window. Winter is back for a few days. The visibility is not good.
    It is still snowing.
Have a warm day inside! Mary, your animals are really smart! And usually smarter than we are.
Hank sure does look happy! So cute! And Mortie loves her toy. So sweet.
I’m amazed you don’t have church, it must really be bad. We still do, but no catechism classes. But there are a lot town families. We won’t be going anywhere.

  18. Erin

What a great pattern! Wouldn’t that look great with any colors? I’m so much better about not cutting off corners, but it’s so nice to not have to work at it!
I’m praying your shoulders are doing better.
    Stay safe and warm!

  19. Lisa Gebel

Love your cake stand with fabric packs. Great idea !!
It is Sunday morning and we are currently getting some hard rains here south of Charles City,IA

    Take care,
    Lisa Gebel

  20. Kelli in N.E. Ohio

Love thr star pattern! And Hank looks like he’s smiling in the second picture 😁batten down the hatched! We had tremendous wind Friday- spent a few hours yesterday picking up limbs. Another round of high wind today- pur temps are fluctuating 40+ degrees – its absolutely crazy. Happy Sunday everyone 🥰

  21. Elizabeth

Quiet morning here- storm rolls through the next couple of days. Winnie and Edna are asleep on my lap and I’ve got coffee and a new quilt book. Mary, you can watch the church service in your pajamas!

  22. Jeanie S, Central IL

I would say Hank missed his mom; however, he always has fun at your house and won’t turn down an opportunity to come over to play.
Mortie is just so cute and clearly loves her mouse.
Thanks for the Star patterns, Mary, appreciate your kindness.
We are having some kind of wintry weather in the next couple days, but it doesn’t sound as bad as yours. Stay Warm and Safe.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jeanie – and ours isn’t as bad as predicted! We got only 1” of snow not the 18-24” they talked about. They just love to scare us!

  23. Sandy McPherson

Hi Mary, love the star pattern, must write down the measurements for future, hope l remember where l write them!Great sunny days in wellington, making up for wet windy summer! Take care, best wishes from Sandy

  24. Alice in SW Ohio

Yes, I do think Hank missed his momma even though he had a wonderful time visiting with you, Mary. Boots has been very clingy since I returned. I know he had a great time playing with Preston while I was gone, but he’s extra close to me now. Sunday is supposed to be 70* here then the temps take a nosedive Sunday evening. Not sure what to expect in the way of snow! Everyone stay safe. Mary, I think it’s smart for your church to be cancelled. Does your pastor do an online streaming service?

  25. DebMac

Ooh, I like those stars! And, I just happen to have a stack of Civil War fat quarters that would look great done up in that pattern. Not that I need to start another quilt as there is one on the ironing board that needs blocks trimmed before I put them together. Thanks for sharing.
We are under a blizzard warning also. But as we are supposed to have a high of 60 at noon; I don’t think they really have a clue what will happen. I think the strong winds will be the worst of our problems.
Hank looks happy and so does Mom.

  26. Beryl in Owatonna

Still nothing in Owatonna, MN!! Looking radar it will probably be here in a couple of hours! The clouds look pretty thick then! My Montana friends have posted pictures with much snow since this morning. Time will tell. It looks like it is snowing pretty good in the cities, they can have it!! We do need moisture though. Be careful tomorrow if you plow!!
