I was so involved in watching the ballgame last night that I forgot to write a blog post. Not much to write however – just a quiet day at home.
Jeanne in CO – if you’d enjoy a card shower, please leave your mailing address – I don’t have it but I’d love to send you a card to let you know I’m thinking of you. And I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Fourth of July weekend is next week!

Teresa found this sweet nest with eggs in a shrub

The same day I found this empty nest on the ground when I mowed.

Then I showed Teresa some of my other nests I found thru the years.

Trying to sort out all the cords and guess who jumped in the drawer!
Grocery store this morning and ballgames this afternoon. Weatherman says extreme heat the next 3 days – I’ll believe it when I see it. I’m still wearing a sweatshirt in the morning and Rick won’t let me open the windows!!! If we get 6 weeks of summer this year, I’ll be surprised.
The assault on Caitlin has been all over the news – I hope she’s ok. IMO she is targeted because of three reasons: she’s white, straight and good! You might not agree but after the assault the other night I just hope she’s ok – she’s out for tonight’s game so I don’t care too much if I watch. Sophie’s pointing finger is the best comeback – it threw Bonner off for sure and you know that Bonner and Thomas are a couple and planning on getting married!
Just ignore that last paragraph if you’re offended.

Ladies, It sure is good that you have all noticed and are aware of the brutal treatment Caitlin gets. After reading your comments I think you should all get after the WNBA and the owners of teams who tolerate that from their players. If someone is injured to the point they can no longer play, you would think the lawsuit would go against the owners also. No matter what, that should not be tolerated by anyone involved. If the team owners become aware how many older supporters are watching just maybe they would sideline the offenders without pay for an extended time. Just saying.
I agree ! And laughed over the tail , so cute
Heat wave coming! Here Sunday through Tuesday. I will be at a retreat north of here but doubt it is much cooler there in Denison, IA.
You are spot on Mary with you assessment! I also agree the punishment of those targeting CC is ridiculous and the refs need to be fired for ignoring all the aggression toward her since she started in the league. Her coach also needs to support her. I love that Sophia is protecting her now, love to watch those two. I never watched WNBA until you started posting about this phenomenal young woman thank you and let’s hope she gets more support and protection going forward.
Diana – I’m betting a huge number of people never watched women’s basketball until Caitlyn arrived on the scene. The incident the other night should have suspended Thomas from the league forever. And her coach is sticking up for her. Incredible.
Mary,
I’m just disgusted with the WNBA and the original handling of the attack on Caitlin. The team (Phoenix) should suspend their own player at the very least. The league can put sanctions on the other team regarding fines, suspensions and future draft picks. And they should. I hope this doesn’t convince Caitlin to go to Europe to play.
We are having a warm day here. Lots of boats on the lake. I had 3 sand hill cranes IN my garden today. Took a bit of yelling and waving my arms to get them to leave. I didn’t see them eating anything, just walking thru.
Stay cool in the expected heat wave this next week, everyone. Keep sending in photos, they are all beautiful. Thanks, Mary!! 🌻
thank you for highlighting the plight of Caitlin. The ugly repercussions of that particular offense are numerous spinal , thyroid, carotid. A much more severe penalty should have been applied. The offender is lucky the ugly possibilities did not occur and put her in a criminal situation. WAKE UP…
I totally agree about Caitlin and it’s terrible.
Love the bird nest’s
The way Caitlin gets treated is ridiculous and the refs are generally horrible. I know a lot of people who watch WNBA now, and I’ve not heard of anyone who watched before Caitlin. You would think all of the players would appreciate what she’s done for them.
Julie – my thoughts exactly
Mortie is so funny. Maybe that golden Orange color goes with ornery cat! Friends of ours have a big orange tom and he loves to ride in the side by side with feet on the dash like a dog!
Love all the red white and blue stuff! Never get tired of it! They are all beautiful and festive!
We are having a steak tonight, need to get my hemoglobin up. It dropped into the 9s. Red meat is good for you. Sounds good doesn’t it? I had a great night! Slept four hours before waking to for BR and ice and then another four 4️⃣ hours! Took a shower and then a nap in the recliner. My nurse is top notch, and I won’t rent him out 😂
Have a good weekend Mary and friends.
Glad to hear you’re doing well!!! Give that nurse a gold star and enjoy that steak!!!
I totally agree with you about Caitlin there is no excuse for what Thomas did. One game suspension is not enough for Thomas as far as I’m concerned especially when Caitlin can’t play in her next game due to a back injury. I still can’t believe the refs did nothing during the game even after watching the replay.
You forgot one reason for the assault on Caitlin – she’s a woman!
France’s – well, but they’re all women!
My cat Ruffie used to sleep under the rhubarb leaves! Mortie’s tail made me laugh – kitties are so cute! We tell them, but do you thnk they know it? The grocery store finally got their order of fresh rhubarb! I cut it up and froze for the future muffins. Too hot to turn on the oven these days!
I’m not offended and I think you might be right. I understand that Caitlin is a Christian so I’ll pray that she reflects the attitude of Jesus as she faces this persecution.
I have an orange tabby kitten like Mortie and he is so playful just like him.
Cats love a good hiding place.
I’m just sick about the treatment of Caitlin. The WNBA needed new blood, they got it, but the players won’t accept her. Her parents are on vacation right now with some church friends of ours. They were neighbors up until a few years ago, and their kids grew up together. So fun to hear our friend Mike tell stories about Caitlin growing up. My husband also worked side by side with her grandpa. So many people in Iowa have that connection with “just a normal Iowa girl”.
Bought the grands a new pool in anticipation of the heat. I hate hot weather. Grateful for a/c! Staying and sewing this weekend. July 4th family get together here next weekend. Hope it cools off as 30 people in my house is a lot!
Diana – I read she doesn’t like her parents at the games because the way she’s treated is so hard for them to watch. Good thing they were gone Weds night, huh?
I really think the punishment for what was done to Caitlin wasn’t enough. Slap on the wrist IMO.
Love the pics today. The nests are adorable. I’ve collected a few in the past, but they didn’t make the move. The “nest” of cords fit right in. You gotta love the tail!
Teresa – the punishment was not enough – she should have been suspended for the rest of the season. Owners are playing a game they cannot win if they don’t protect her!
Not offended, you said it right on!
Good to hear from you this morning! I often wake up at 3am and I open my email and look for the blog and read and then try to go back to sleep. Looked for it this morning and it wasn’t there!!! Happy to read it now.
Sadly I think it is hot EVERYWHERE! Seems no escaping it this year. I will agree with you on Caitlin. I’m not a basketball watcher, but from what I’ve seen this is ridiculous. The fact that it has been allowed to go on and on is unacceptable. These players aren’t smart enough to realize that the WNBA was floundering and this talented young woman has brought fans to the games and saved their jobs. Boy, that green eyed monster has blinded them. Sad. I heard one announcer say Caitlin should just pack in it and go play in Europe. Couldn’t blame her if she did but I don’t agree with that.
Love that tail poking out of the drawer! Cats are so funny…… I had one that used to lay behind my machine as I sewed. At times made it quite the challenge but I loved it.
I had a black cat who sat behind my machine. One day he took a swat at the needle and got his paw sewn. It only went between his toes and I grabbed him before he could move and got the needle up. He was ok but could have been bad. After that I kept empty spools to throw to get cats off my sewing table.
What a little rascal Mortie is, I didn’t see the fever game but did go on line to read about the assault on Caitlin. Such poor sportsmanship. I feel the penalties should be harsher for that. I don’t understand it but have to figure jealousy is a huge factor. Not very good modeling for young people.
