Just a quick hello! 11-13-22

Just finished watching Yellowstone and I’m watching it for the second time. Baby, it’s cold outside!

Warm greeting from the barn!

I am envious because I can never find Yellowstone on our TV. We did see Where The Crawdads Sing on Netflix tonight, though. The book was better but I did really enjoy the movie.
I did see on the weather maps you are cold in Iowa tonight, but your animals look cozy in their barn and you in your farmhouse. Sleep tight….

AGREE!!!! One of the best shows ever! Although I have to say the first 2 episodes this season didn’t really leave me on the edge of my seat, but that’s OK. There will be plenty of that coming I’m sure.

        1. Sherrill

I’m with you…this 2 hr. season opener didn’t do much for me. I’m starting to really dislike Beth and John. I’m wondering if this will be the last season and they’re setting up the Duttons for a fall & losing the Yellowstone. Wonder what the new female (working against the Duttons) will be up to?

Love the goat pic, Mary! Which one is this?
Have i mentioned that my mechanic (car) met Sir Spur recently and had this to say: “Goat! He looks like a goat!” — tho with much more closely set eyes . . . and no horns.
    xoxo ;-))

Pam – he does NOT look like a goat! These goats don’t have names – guess when I got the four of them I was just too busy to think about names – Trouble is the only one with a name!

It is 23 here going to 20. It was sunny around noon when we took a short ride and did a couple errands. Then I worked on a throw-size tv quilt for my husband, one last strip to finish the body. Herb took several rugs off the loom and tied the fringe. He is preparing for a craft show on 11/26.
We made white bean/chicken chili using smoked chicken-yum it! I think I will buy a smoked turkey and divide it into small portions for the freezer. Smoked turkey salad would be tasty!
    Stay warm, Mary. 🥰

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jeanie – I almost “save” my woven rag rugs because I don’t know anyone around here that has a loom and makes them. Mine will be worn out in a few years. You’re lucky.

Hi Mary, tired legs today after a busy couple of hours helping with charity quilts yesterday, so did some sewing, first border around all the triangles l found, going to applique vine and flowers, then l think star blocks,l like mixing it up a bit. The lawn mower guy came today, so not much of a jungle now. TAke care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sandy – I am green with envy that you’re in grass mowing season! We are in for about three straight days of snow! Can’t wait to see the quilt you’re working on.

  5. Gloria from CC

Mary – your goat looks so cozy and warm. I binge watched season 4 of Yellowstone all day yesterday and then watched the premiere last night. It’s going to be another good season.
I guess we’re supposed to get snow this morning and then again tomorrow and Wednesday. As long as we don’t get ice it can snow every day. Happy Monday everyone!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Gloria – How’s Boo? Are he and Emmett still sharing the warm bed. Angel definitely needs her warm coat these days!

      1. Gloria from CC

Boo is still doing great. He’s still laying in Emmett’s kennel when Emmett is laying by the door but I’m sure as it gets colder and colder, Boo will be snuggled in with Emmett. We’re trying to get Boo to trust us enough to pick him up and then eventually put in a carrier. We need to get him to the vet to be checked over and neutered. It’s going to take time because we don’t want him to run away scared.
Angel has several fur coats for this cold weather and she looks so cute in them. Thanks for asking about our family of pets.

Love the picture of your goat!! It certainly became winter all of a sudden! Well, we will just have to get used to it I guess! Looking forward to the sew along! Penny isn’t crazy about the cold but will love the snow, sounds like we are supposed to get some today!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Kathy Hanson – I think winter arrived too soon as well! Rick’s appointment is tomorrow morning and I’m hoping the roads are ok!

  7. Darla

That goat photo! The soft lighting, the clean straw bedding, the very content looking goat…such a peaceful looking scene. The goat looks like it was brushed and groomed for the photo, lol.
    Very nice photo!

  8. Teresa from Port Coquitlam,BC

Your goat looks very content and I agree with Darla the goat looks like it was brushed for the photo. I’ve been looking after a niece and nephew about 4hrs NE of home, so their parents could have a weeks holiday. Tomorrow I’m off to Coeur d’Alene to visit my son and daughter-in-law. They’ve just moved from Nevada for my sons new job. Will be taking their two dogs home till they find a permanent place to live that takes animals. Who said retirement life is boring. We are excited with their move as our first grandchild will be born in the new year and we will be much closer to visit than before.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Teresa – looks like it’s all working in your favor to watch that new grandchild grow up – you are blessed for sure.

Good morning – remember I am the softie that likes Christmas movies so my butt was parked in front of the new hallmark movie last night. But my husband watched the Bills football game earlier in the day and said to me during the hallmark movie, “ do we get paramount plus and a show called Yellowstone? “. I told him I doubt we get it cause ours in pretty basic cable but we will look some time.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Kathy – Yellowstone is worth the price of Paramount! You won’t be sorry.

  10. Anita Fetzer

This beautiful animal looks very happy warm and ready for a good nights sleep. It is COLD for sure. Snow on Sat. Some still with us. But what a glorious long Fall it was. Warm wishes.

Love the goat picture. It looks so serene.
We are here in Iowa a few extra days. We were following our son’s family home from a restaurant and they hit a deer on I80. It was a huge buck that hit the windshield and side doors. Our daughter in law was able to ease over to the side of the road. She hit a pickup with a trailer but didn’t cause any damage to it.
We put the babies (ages 2 1/2 and 1) into my car and waited for the sheriff.
Thank goodness everyone was ok but now to deal with insurance and getting a vehicle and two car seats. We are so thankful it wasn’t worse.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Susan – oh, SUSAN, that’s too bad! On I-80 no less – all those trucks. This morning on I-80 in that same stretch there are multiple crashes involving semis bringing all traffic to a stop. It’s a bad stretch and I hate driving on it – those trucks scare me! And two infants in the car! Good Heavens – I’m glad everybody is ok.

      1. Susan K in Texas

We were near Bettendorf and the casino. Trucks were flying by. You’re so right on I80 being busy with trucks. The drive across Iowa to get to our sons house is the worst part of our drive up here.
We were so lucky to have a warm car to put the babies in and were able to get off the side of the road thank goodness. It could have been so much worse.
Safe travels and good luck to Rick at the doctors. Hoping for good news.

  12. MaureenHP

Cold weather has definitely hit the Midwest! We are blessed to have warm homes (and barns).

  13. Billie in Henderson, NV

Going to watch Yellowstone tonight! It’s been to long. The goat is one happy camper!!!

  14. Pamela Dempsey

Beautiful goat picture! So pretty 😍 we had a freeze 🥶 yesterday morning and today expecting rain. I love the cooler weather, usually not this cool before thanksgiving.

  15. Jan P from TN

I can’t imagine how cold it is in Garner, as it is really cold here in Cosby, TN. Have lots of cleaning to do in preparation for son and grandkids arriving Sat. Good day for getting the house ready and drinking hot tea and/or coffee! Hope to treat myself with some sewing later!!! Love the goat pic! Stay warm and have a great day!

  16. Bonnie McKee

Good morning from western Oregon where it’s 29° at my house. I love the wonderful picture of the warm and cozy goat. 🥰
Painters are coming today to do their part on our bathroom remodel. I hope to find time to sew on my great grandson’s quilt.
    Happy Monday to all!
    Bonnie

  17. Jo in Wyoming

    Good morning from Wyoming.
It’s cold here too, we had a dusting of snow last night.
I80 is a nightmare, I take the back roads when I can. I25 is under construction around Ft. Collins, Windsor and Loveland area. That stretch is really scary.
    I chuckled at Trouble’s name!!
Today I have lunch with the old operators, dancing lessons, hit the store on the way home. Never a dull moment in my world.

  18. Quilting Sister in NC

Hi Mary! I also watched Yellowstone last nite, but need to watch it again this weekend & figure out the storyline on the fella who woke up outdoors, then ran inside hollering & got in the shower. I switched channels for a few minutes … maybe he was the guy Beth met in the bar? But I missed what happened to him. Oh well, glad it’s back, yay!

  19. Colleen in Oregon

The goat looks like he belongs in a manger scene. It was 17 degrees here this morning when I got up and we had `frog` (frozen fog.)
Susan, what a frightening experience to go through and with infants! So glad everyone is ok. I had a similar experience back in June in Illinois close to the Iowa border after visiting with my daughter. I only had my little dog with me though, but we also got hit by a big buck. Had to buy a new car to get home. I am blessed with a batch of wonderful cousins who took me in and got me through it! God bless buckeyes!

  20. Lynn H

Love Yellowstone! Haven’t watched the season opener yet though – too many obligations yesterday. Here in the northwest suburbs of Mpls we have sow coming own, but I got to my monthly Kim Diehl Whatnots club and only six out of 20 some quilters were able to make it to our meeting. Always lots of fun driving in the cities on the first snowfall of the season…Not!
Taking a breather after the Vikings game also – didn’t get to watch the second half but listening to the highlights from Paul Allen and seeing the amazing catches almost gave me a heart attack, much less watching it live! I’ve watched too many heart-breakers over the decades but this year’s team seems to be different – so far!

  21. Kim from TN

It’s cold here in TN, and frosty this morning. Anything left in the garden or flower beds is toast. Pansies always do well in the cooler climates, and we have them all winter long here. I need to fill two of my planters for the winter months. I have Yellowstone new season to watch, but its recording so I will enjoy it when I have a full evening to do so.

  22. Jill Klop

Hi Mary! My husband is hunting in northern Indiana…so he is closer to your weather than what we usually have in south Texas! Although…we got down to 31degrees the other night. I had to turn our furnace on!

  23. Betty Klosterman

That goat is beautiful. Do they groom themselves?
Yep, watched Yellowstone. Very interesting. We’ll find out what is happening. I like it when they re-run the episode so we can watch closely to see what we missed. Some have my favorite parts so I don’t want to miss them.
And I-80 is a horrible road. We came back fromOregon – maybe 12 years ago. It was dark and for as far as we could see the tail lights and headlights . All lanes were filled and traffic was going at least 80 mph. I couldn’t tell, but Frank said some of the trucks were racing. Not a comfortable trip. Maybe Jo will remember the details from huge accident involving a lot of cars, trucks, etc. Several people killed and some never found.
In the meantime, Thanksgiving is almost here and Christmas can’t be far behind. How does the time go by so fast? Take care, everybody. Winter is here.
