Missing Post, 9-14-24

I think I must have been too upset about The Fever’s loss to LVA last night because I didn’t write a post. They could and should have won that game.

Molly’s (the dog who visits us occasionally) mom hd knee replacement surgery last week and I’m going to take her soup, apple salad, and a couple cookies today. I hope the anesthesia is gone so it will stay down.

Margaret got her first card yesterday and called me – she was tickled as could be! Thanks to you all who are sending a card to my good friend.

See? Nothing. Nothing happening around here.

The game was disappointing. Fever should have won. I guess everyone has a bad night now and then. Hopefully, they’ll have a better game tonight.

I am assuming the hurricane was the cause of our high humidity today, and our high temp was 86. After running a few errands, I was quite content to stay inside in the AC. We are having friends over tomorrow, so I made black bean salsa and a 3-bean salad. Hubby is grilling the rest—sausages and green peppers w/onions.
And that is about as exciting as it gets around here.
Thanks for all you do for us, Mary 🥰

We watched the Fever game as well. I have never seen the Fever girls miss so many free throws. If they would have made half of what they missed they would have won by quite a margin. Rarely does Caitlin miss a free throw, but she missed her first two! I was shocked. She had a hard time hitting last night. We felt so badly for her, and then another technical on her. It wasn’t a good night. Hopefully, the next two will be better.

Mary – I also watched the Fever game last night. Fever outplayed LV and should have won. I guess I need to find the WNBA rules – there seemed to be a lot of bogus calls against Fever. And why didn’t that one 3pt shot by Caitlin count? Did she run out of time? If she did, why don’t they announce that? The coach needs to dispute more of the calls too. Caitlin can’t do all the disputing by herself or she might get kicked out of the game. I guess I don’t have the disposition to watch a basketball game – I get so mad I just scream. Maybe you do too.

Gloria – I watched on the big tv for awhile and I was so upset I decided I just had to sew while “watching” – I don’t think I understand the rules either but I learn a lot on The Fever Facebook page – people really discuss the game and most of them were saying the refs are simply biased against The Fever. I don’t know if that’s true. Some think the coach has her head up her ass and maybe she does but I’m not smart enough to figure that out. I remember you don’t so Facebook but that’s where I read the discussion.

Hi Mary, l went to my friends place yesterday for our quilting get together to find her on the floor, shee loses the power to stand suddenly and frequently has the ambulance service come and pick her up, then check everything is ok.All ok ,so we had a very chatty day with some stitching. When l got home l had a cup of tea, fell asleep, woke up,had toasted sandwich for supper, fell asleep, then couldn’t sleep when l went to bed! Looks like clouds and showers today again, take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

Sandy – good thing you went to her house! That’s my problem – I’m sleepy during the day but can’t sleep at night. I blame my mattress and the pattern continues.

We have a pretty laid back day going on here too. The landscape guys were here earlier fixing an irrigation line that was leaking and trimming a tree that had a limb break in our last wind storm. So glad for them because I don’t think either one of us could get down or up to do it ourselves. Getting old sucks!
I finally have the top finished on the quilt I’ve been working on since April. I have the binding all ready, just need to iron the back and load it on the frame. I’ll be so glad to see the tail end of this one! Next quilt is going to be something quick and easy. Thank goodness for all the ideas and inspiration from the readers of this blog!
Have fun everyone! As soon as lunch is over I’m taking a nap

Yay! Glad Margaret got her first card and I also got the comment box in my email …just like old times 😊
It’s a beautiful day in Michigan! I’m not complaining about today but I’m looking forward to fall like temperatures. 🍁🍂🍁 Enjoy whatever you are doing today as for me it’s keeping one eye on the wolverine’s and the other on scrubbing rugs.
    GO BLUE 💙💛💙💛💙

I am sad. My neighbors who have 15 or 16 year old, Tucker, a Yorkie, are moving. They live part time here and part in FL. They are buying a condo about 3 miles from me so I won’t see them twice a day🥲. Tucker loves the treats I give him. He can’t see or hear very well, but when I walk down the hill, he knows I coming and he runs toward me with his little tail wagging. I will miss his parents too!! HOT here again and NO rain for weeks! Our yard crunches! Sorry to whine. I will miss them🥲

    1. Kathy in western NY

Diane, you have a right to whine over losing good neighbors in my opinion. They are hard to find today with people staying to themselves or wishing not to socialize so when you have a good neighbor, it’s gold! And missing the doggie makes it harder for your days. Sounds like they want to downsize to a condo rather than house maintenance?
I’ve been outside working and it’s warm here and very dry with no rain in forecast next week either. I think I’ll sit now and read. I wanted to decorate my front porch but gave up with the heat. Pulling weeds was enough.
My family is at beautiful Watkins Glen in the finger lakes for the nascar race so I’m eating what I want. HA! I got a Jersey Mike small sub for Lunch so I’m glad to have many places I haven’t eaten at before all within 15 minutes drive.

Diane – oh how Tucker will miss you, too!! Maybe they’ll come back now and then to visit you?

      1. Diane, Squeak, Buddy

Kathy and Mary, They will mostly be in Florida, but back here to visit their first grandchild. They will come back sometimes with Tucker so he can walk in this neighborhood. I will miss them🥲.

It is a beautiful day here in way NE North Dakota!Larry and I are visiting his sister and brother in law for a couple of days, Autumn is approaching, and the fall harvest ahead, we did see Canola and edible beans being harvested, soon flax and more canola around here with a soybeans and corn to follow. We went to a football game last night in New Rockford which is south of Devils Lake. Everything is far apart so always have to drive a distance for everything. Just the way of life up here. I brought along my quilt to work on the binding, making progress! Tomorrow we will drive back to SW Minnesota and get caught up on stuff at home. I will be working out in my gardens cutting down peonies and day lilies. I am still getting cherry tomatoes to harvest so this is nice. It will be interesting to see how much the soybeans are shutting down for harvest.

Beautiful fall day here in western NE. Rodeo (Pendelton) and NE football. Will get some binding sewn down and some cross stitching done. A slower day here in this house!!! cl

    1. Tina W in Oregon

Hi Carol! Are you from Pendleton too? We have company who are attending the rodeo but we’ve just been watching it on the Cowboy Channel. Will probably walk downtown tonite and tomorrow the streets will all be clean and you won’t even know anything was happening this week. Better go watch the Navy Seal paratroopers jump from a helicopter and land in the arena. We can see the rodeo grounds from our house.

    Sorry about the Fever loss.
Perfect day on the porch with my dog. He could do this all day.
Must get to housework, but I’m taking a coffee break right now!

I finally have a “Comment” box on my email! I get them sporadically, but it just occurred to me that maybe I get them when you have not attached pictures??
Just trying to help you problem solve this issue.
You are my connection to Iowa & I would really miss your blog about nothing, if you stopped! Thank you!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Linda/Texas – I’m going to test your theory but I so hope it’s not the answer. This will be boring without pictures but worse without comments

      1. Kathy in NY

Mary, I’ve always had the comment box if I go to the internet from my email post you send. Todays email does not show the comment box for me like the last several weeks now, and the comment box is there at the bottom of your blog post as usual once when I go to the web.

      2. Linda/Texas

Well, that didn’t work! Today’s w/o pictures didn’t have a comment box in email or internet. Thanks for trying it.
