No Pictures, 9-14-24

Okay, I’m testing this theory that if there are no pictures included in the post, the comment box should appear like it used to. I am clueless – let me know.

Ginger, about 20 years ago, I made 10 apples from a variety of red calicoes and green leaves. I think the pattern was an Apple Annie pattern. I always used to display them in a basket on my hutch. But when I moved to Colo. to live with my daughter, my 5-6 month old great grandson started playing with them and they became his favorite toy, putting them in the basket, taking them out of the basket, and so on. As he got a bit older, they became his own personal softballs. That continued for several more years and he developed a great aim by using them to toss back and forth to us. He just turned five and has finally moved on to the Lego generation. My apples are still in great shape, back in the basket, and once again on the hutch, ready for the next great grandchild to love them. They have been twice loved; first by me as I sewed them and second by little Ben. Jeanne in Colo.

Saw the blog without pictures and I read/reply by “open in browser”. thank you Mary for all you do – keep it up and be blessed today!

  3. Jeanie S, Central IL

I click ‘read blog’ and get a comment box and ads. Thanks for writing the blog, Mary. I think positive thoughts and prayers every day. 🥰

  4. Brenda in N Calif

It took me awhile to figure out I could get the comments if I went to the blog. I had always been able to get them, then I upgraded my phone. I just go to the blog now and get the pics, ads and comments.

  5. Joyce from NY

I always get the comments & comments blue box & the blog by clicking on the url at the top of the blog.

  6. Linda in central Iowa

No Mary, it’s not you. It’s us and whether we use a desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. Then, there’s the different internet servies; and the different brands of tablets or phone). I usually read on the desktop or laptop – everything is more “standardized”; I read it through my email (google) and the comment box is at the bottom. I have one of each of the devices and it is very interesting how different your blog is on each one. But even my husband’s desktop (which is 3 months newer than mine) has different screens than mine.
    Don’t stop sending pictures!
We all seem to know where and how to find you – you can’t escape!! LOL

  7. Judy

I have always clicked on the title in the email which takes me to the blog. In the blog I can enlarge the print to make it easier to read. Pictures, comments, and leave a reply are there except for the times you are having problems and it is soon fixed. I also have checked “notify me of new posts by email.” I used to get the new comments that were posted after I posted but have not recently.
I enjoy reading your blog whether it is about farm life, your church music, flowers or your quilting. I also enjoy all of the pictures that readers send in and the comments.

Comment box is available by clicking on the Country Threads header in the text of your email, easy peasy.

I’ve been missing in action for a while here as my 94 year old mother had rather rapidly gone downhill this year. She finally started falling, EMTs involved twice, and finally, she just could not walk at all. A trip to the hospital, X-rays, MRIs, diagnosis. Her bout with triple negative breast cancer two years ago metastasized to her brain. Multiple aggressive tumors explained everything. Two weeks in excellent hospice care and her journey ended in August.
So, spending 8-12 hours a day in the hospice room, 4 hours a day cleaning out her apartment (death-cleaning, people, pursue it and save your family a big headache!), banks, lawyer, funeral director, funeral brunch arrangements…most of that is behind me and it’s sit and wait time. Out of state family is coming October 12 weekend for internment and brunch, the lawyer does the rest.
That was my year. I went to the AQS show in Lancaster PA this week for some needed R&R! I took a long arm ruler class, so much fun! Spent some $$$ on happy treasures and am looking forward to some serious sewing now. Last week, I sat at my sewing machine for the first time in months and forgot how to thread my Juki!

    1. Pat in AZ

Carol, so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. You must be so exhausted. I’ve started my own death cleaning and it sure isn’t fun and it’s my stuff! I can’t imagine how the kids would ever get through it. Glad you have had a little me time.
      Prayers for you

      1. Kathy in western NY

Carol, I am very sorry to read of your loss. Hoping better days are ahead with some sewing and quilts to show us. I appreciate your post sharing what’s been happening in Buffalo with you as I think of you often when we discuss weather here on the blog and I think back to that blizzard you had couple years back.
See Mary, for those of us who have been here for awhile we all have a bond to your blog and personally I think there are no rants we can say on technology. They’re all legit to me. Most of us are in the same boat on using it and learning it so just keep on doing what you can Mary to keep all your friends here together.

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Carol – you’ve really had some challenges recently and the house cleaning warning is one I should heed. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom! And now you wait in limbo till October 12. All those appointments – ugh.

  9. Vicki in West Des Moines

I get your emails through Yahoo and there is no comment box button available. I go to the top of the page and click on “Read on Blog” to read comments and to post one.

Don’t stress yourself out. We all have figured out what each of us needs to do to get to the comments.

Hope the Fever do better today and WIN!

  10. Brenda in Georgia

I go to the blog and have no problem reading or sending comments. The same today, with no photos. I am old and not in any way technically useful, but I am wondering if it may have something to do with each person’s email providers? I have Yahoo email provider, and they recently made some kind of update and I no longer receive some of the emails that I used to get every day. I have tried to figure out why and have not been able to do that so far. So annoying! The update they did has not affected getting your emails at all.

Getting your emails every day means so much to me. I love hearing and seeing what you are doing and I love reading the comments. I am not a total shut in, but I don’t feel like going out and doing the things I used to enjoy very often. I mean reading your blog is an absolute joy for me. However, I can totally understand that it might sometimes feel like a chore to take care of, especially if you are in a state of irritation or exhaustion or not feeling well enough to barely take care of yourself, much less than anything else (describing myself here at times). My brother, sister, and I send a short, few words, email every day to show we are alive and kicking (well, maybe not kicking). Sometimes you might feel like doing that and we must understand. We just love you and your blog so much, You do so much good in the world. Thank you!

  11. Glenda from SE SD

Mary, I now go to Read on blog also. No big deal. Then read through comments and then can comment
myself at the end. Thank you for sticking in there with us. We all enjoy your blog. Have a good day everyone.

  12. Sue in Oregon

Read on Blog, comment box at the bottom. Sometimes it has been at the top. No problem. I just chase it down. Sometimes my comment lands at the top, sometimes the bottom. I think these blogging operators use different ways to do their own testing without notifying you. I have an Etsy shop, and it is constantly changing with no notice to the sellers at all. Grrr

  13. Debbie in SC

I always read emails on my desktop PC-not on a phone or ipad. I get the email-click on read on blog and then see the comments and leave a reply at the end. Sometimes there are pictures in the email-sometimes not and usually all pictures (at least I think all) in the read on blog. I never get any ads in either emails or blog.

    1. Dot in NC

Debbie, if you don’t see the ads, you probably have an ad-blocker running in your web browser. Most ad-blockers have a way to turn them off for specific websites. I have mine turned off for Mary’s blog, so I get the ads.

  14. Diane in Colorado

It’s so interesting that some folks are getting the “normal” set-up for the blog in their email and others of us are not. I’m in the camp that has to go to the blog and scroll down through the comments to get to the “Leave a Reply” option. I don’t always have access to my laptop to do that, so those days I don’t comment, but I still read and enjoy the blog!!

I just spend the weekend in Estes Park with my best friend and both of our 4-year-old granddaughters. We took the girls to the top of the mountain on the Estes Tram where we walked around searching for elusive chipmunks to feed peanuts to (supplied by the gift shop–otherwise we would not have been encouraging the girls to feed the wildlife!). We must have been up there too early as there weren’t many to be seen. The girls enjoyed the search anyway! Then we went over to Gateway Stables and they did a pony ride on a trail just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park. As some of you know, I had horses when my daughter was growing up. This was my chance to introduce my granddaughter to horses and riding and she was an absolute rockstar! She sat up tall and straight and quiet in her saddle, just like we’d practiced on the saddle in my basement. She had such a good time, and so did I!!

I had to have MOHS on my nose this past week. Not fun. Use your sunscreen. I grew up in the era of baby oil and “laying out” to get a “healthy” tan. There’s no such thing as a “healthy” tan. Use your sunscreen, get your annual skin check, get your mammogram, do your colonoscopy. Stay healthy out there!

    1. Libby C

Oh Diane!! So sorry for your surgery. I’m scheduled for MOHS on my nose in a couple of weeks. Really dreading it! Listen to Diane, girls, use sunscreen!

    2. Carol at Pin Oak Quilting

Hi there, best wishes for a speedy healthy resolution to your MOHS experience. Your advice: mammogram in the spring and breast MRI in the fall, colonoscopy on schedule, dermatologist yearly (this year was surgery on an unnoticed changing mole -lots of stitches etc, big surprise), gynecologist, yearly checkup, ophthalmologist, dentist, endocrinologist, surgeon…. Everybody gets their month for my visit! None are fun, all are essential to my piece of mind. Never omit these in your life if possible… you just never know what’s lurking below the surface!

  15. Teresa fron Port Coquitlam, BC

I can read and leave a comment when I click read on blog. No big deal when I get the email with your post I don’t bother reading it till I click read on blog. I’ve gotten used to it so it doesn’t bother me. As I’ve said before when I was working we always said when software companies do an “upgrade” it truly is a downgrade.

  16. Janette

I enjoy reading the all your posts. I have tried to reply, but the system always thinks I am not a real person!

  17. Sharon Malone

I wasn’t aware that I needed to click the “read on blog or reader” option at the top of your post before I could read the comments. To leave a comment I had to scroll through all comments before that option appeared. I get notification of your posts in my email and just read them there but the comments never appeared there.

  18. Sandy in Indiana

    Hi Mary,

No issues with Me….I click on the blog title in my email…..pictures, comment box & ads to check are always there.

Love the Blog….enjoy your Sunday 🙂

    Sandy in Indiana

    1. Brenda Ks

Sandy I agree with you. I do just like you do and never have any trouble.. Everything is always there and always has been.

  19. Jeanine from SE Iowa

I have always clicked on the title of your entry, and it has always taken me to the blog, and the comments are almost always there. One time it wasn’t there, but you fixed it on your end. Now, if you want to have ads to click on, which I do every time I read the blog, you need to go to the blog. There are no ads ( at least for me) on the email entry. I refresh several times during the day to see if any new comments have been added, and then I can click on more ads! Keep clicking on those ads, girls, as that helps Mary pay for the blog. It’s the least we can do. Sorry for my rant this morning, just explaining what I do.
Have a wonderful day! It is beautiful in SE Iowa, and has been all week.

  20. Deb in Idaho

Good morning, I always have to go to the blog to read or reply. That’s ok with me and I use a iPad. I read every thing regardless of pictures. Pictures are eye candy for me.
We’re getting some fall weather this week, so I can start using my oven. Ha
    Have a great week

  21. Pat in AZ

Not a big deal to click on the title or read on blog button. And I just check back a couple of times a day to see the comments that have come in since I last checked. As I said, no big deal

  22. Ginger S

I also always go to the blog to write and read comments. It’s easy enough and don’t mind it at all. Love your blog. always interesting. I’ve been working on fabric apples. I don’t know why I get on these kicks, but it keeps me busy in the evenings. I should be cleaning my sewing room. Oh, I think I know why I’m making apples….avoidance.

  23. Dee from Missouri

Don’t think its on your end. Easy to read/comment, just click on read on blog and comment is at bottom of page. I read on my phone. Have a great day!

  24. Joy in NW Iowa

I don’t think it has anything to do with Mary, I think it depends on what kind of devise you are using.
There are clouds this morning….haven’t had those for a while.
    Have a good Sunday!

    1. Connie R. In Wis

Joy, I agree that it may depend on what device you’re using. Not something on Mary’s side. Sounds like there are several different ways to access the comments box. Just need to do what works for each person.

  25. Fran Dixon

Have to do blog to get a comment box. I have never received a follow-up post by email. I gave up on that a long time ago,

  26. Diane, Squeak, Buddy in Central Ohio

I have to go to Read on Blog then I go through the comments and at the end of the comments it shows a box with Comment written above it. I don’t get the blue commment rectangle anymore, but this way works😀. I do this with or without photos.

  27. Donna Sproston

I have to click on read on blog to see comments.. I no longer get the follow up email confirming or the comments from everyone else in my email.

  28. Connie R. in Wis.

I click on title and it shows how many replies and I can go to the comment box. It’s always been that way for me. No difference if you post pictures or not. I also don’t think it’s anything to do with your side.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Connie R – I guess I have to accept that it’s not on my side but I always hope it’s something I can fix. And you know why? Because it’s a hassle and one more step for readers to bother with to leave a comment which they no longer do. How would you feel if you talked on and on and nobody responded? (Not you personally, Connie!) Now if I do NOT write a post readers are going to be alarmed and start emailing me. Not even my friends around Garner. They all know what I, doing but are too private to share anything with me- I have no clue as to what they’re doing because I don’t go anywhere to run into them so I’d love to hear from them here. Whine, complain and gripe – I’ll stop my rant but I had to write it somewhere. I’m heading to church – I need to beg for forgiveness about my poor attitude.

      1. Connie R. In Wis

No need to apologize for “a bad attitude “. I know how you feel as , the only place I get to interact with my neighbors is at church. That’s why I love your blog. I enjoy hearing what everyone is doing and what projects they are working on. There is always inspiration in the photos that are shared. I look forward to reading the blog and the comments every day. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. You do a wonderful job of keeping us in touch with each other. I feel like I know many of your readers personally by the comments. Thanks for keeping at it even though technology doesn’t always cooperate.
Speaking of which, I have a Directv technician scheduled to come to my house this week to hook up my extra TV that stopped getting signal. Efforts to getting it fixed over the phone (which is their preferred way of fixing things) did not work. Adding to that being technically challenged, they finally agreed to send someone out. Keeping my fingers crossed as, they are not reliable about keeping their appointments in rural areas. Now, there is my rant!
Thanks, Mary, for all you do.

        1. Mary Etherington Post author

Connie – I understand completely about getting any type of repairman to show up. The Xerox people won’t even help me so I still don’t have a copier because I think maybe they’ll show up. Pretty soon I have to give up and buy one. I do think we’ve all gotten to know each other and I like it because even at church I rarely get to talk to anyone. By the time I finish at the piano, most have left.

  29. Jo in Michigan

Also Mary when I use to get the emails with the comment box at the end and when I commented I would always receive a email right after my comment from WordPress. I don’t remember exactly what the email would say but it I would click on it and it basically was asking permission to post my comment. And I would receive emails with additional comments from other readers if I checked the box before I posted my comment. I still do check the box but I don’t receive any comments or follow up comments by email.
So I’m not sure if this helps. But thought I would try to explain as best as I could.

  30. Pamela Dempsey in Northeast Texas 😻

No comment box where before there was. I just click on the title and can scroll down to find it. Hugs Miss Mary 😻

    1. Cindy Sabinske

Mary, I see a Reply with a down pointing arrow, no more Like option. Comment option is always at the very end of the comments. Also I used to get all comments in my email, not anymore, just your daily start for the day with the blue letters to log in.

  31. Linda in Michigan

I read the blog every day. If I want to comment, I click on the “Replies”, scroll to the bottom, or last reply, and the comment box is there. Has always been this way for me. (I use an old desk-top computer.)

  32. Kathy in NY

I have no comment box in my email but I am can easily go to the blog by clicking the title and finding the comment box. Has been that way for awhile now so I think most of us have adjusted to what we have to do to find the comment box.

  33. Pat Smith

I can only comment by clicking on the word “blog” at the top of the email. Then there is a comment box at the bottom. Easy enough to do.

  34. Linda Carpenter

I get an email , when I click on it it opens and I guess that’s your blog, right? Comment box is there.

  35. Linda in Saginaw Michigan

Nancy gets the comments all the time because she is special! She’s the baby.

I have to go to the blog but I do anyway so that’s fine with me!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Linda – she’s the baby! Becky’s the baby, too, and always got away with lots more than I did.

      1. Cindy Sabinske

Mary and all…yes, even my dear aunts said my mother got by with more than they did..she was the baby of their family..I was the oldest and agree, and my own kids still comment that Katy did get away with more than they did…I agree.

  36. Gloria from CC

No comment box. I still have to read on blog which is no big deal now that I know what I have to do.

  37. Charlotte in No. California

I can also click on the title in my email and it takes me to the blog and there are comments. Either way works.

  38. patti leal

mary, the box does not automatically go to the email. i have never received a comment box in my email. i ALWAYS have to go to the blog to read and see a comment box. i do not believe it has anything to do with pictures or no pictures. i have checked the last several emails that refer to the blog and they all say ‘read on blog or reader’. i don’t think this is your fault.
i’m off to bed. hugs patti in florida
