Hi Mary,
Reading about your health concerns and treatment by your primary doctor is so frustrating and sad at their lack of care. I hope you know whatever your diagnosis and treatment plan, you will make it through. Since January 12th of this year I have had lung surgery and 4 months of chemotherapy for non-smoking lung cancer. I also lost my adult son 10 days ago to a car accident. God has helped me every step of the way. Please check out Cece Winan’s song “Be Still and Know” on YouTube. It will comfort and encourage you. I will be praying for you.
Linette – I am so so sorry!!! Losing a child has to be worse than death yourself – oh my goodness! And you’ve been having chemotherapy all these months??? What can we all do to offer you encouragement and help of any kind? Your address? We’re all good at sending cards and believe me, they do help! How are you feeling now? I am familiar with Cece Winan and will definitely find her song.
Linette, So much for you to cope with. I am so sorry about the loss of your son. Your strong faith comes through in your comment and God will see you through this. Take care
Dear Linette, Let me also offer my deepest condolences. Words are never enough for this kind of loss, but I’ll be thinking of you.
Kindest regards, San / Murphy, NC
I just love seeing all those quilting spaces, it inspires me with ideas for my space. I do need to get a new chair. I love the large design wall, the floor to ceiling wall cubbies for fabric colors. I like your layout with the triangles, it really shows off the fabric choices. Now I have an idea of what to do with all those triangles I have been saving. Wishing you good news on your appointment at Mayo, we will all be with you in spirit. Hope they have the biopsy results to share. Its quite humid and hot here today, next week in the 70’s and cooler.
You are all amazing women with your quilt space and all the productiion. I am amazed. I have a spare room i could work on. Love the flag quilt. And I think I like your layout best, Mary, of the half triangle squares. People are so creative.
Good luck on your trip to MAYO on Monday. At least you’re finally getting some action. Pray all goes well.
Love Connie’s kitty!!
We’re at 85 today. Perfect porch day with the dog in the shade. It’s his favorite place to be.
LOVE your scrappy brights! Even better than the zigzag quilt!
Hope your Monday goes well! You are in good hands…
Jill, your sewing room is awesome! So big! And who’s pretty kitty is that? Beautiful. Mary, I’m not sure if it’s the layout of the zig zag quilt or the scrunchy quilting that attracts my eye. I do love your layout too. Especially love the flag house quilt! Is that in a book? Very neat pattern. It’s hot here in MA, but not like other parts of the country. It must be horrible to have the heat/smoke combination. So unhealthy for people to be breathing. It’s so hard to stay positive when there are people who actually want to start fires or harm innocent people for no reason. And don’t get me started on men in women’s sports. On a good note, I’m happy that the Mayo is finally communicating with you, Mary! Praying all goes well with your appointments coming up. Jan in MA
Jan – nor do I want to start my rant about men in women’s sports!!
Great pictures Mary. Thank you so much for passing them along. Sending prayers for you appointment and your phone call.
P.S. I love both quilts!
I see what you mean about the appeal of that triangle square quilt, but I am partial to the layout you originally went with. It is something about the fabrics you used. I think they look better as quarter square triangles on point.
That tabletop extended over the bed is a great idea. What a space saver.
One caution for all of you quilt top stitchers (especially if you are sewing and ironing a log cabin while still sitting down). Look around for a small footprint swivel chair. Straight back rigid chairs can be really hard on your back. Nowadays they seem a bit hard to find. I borrowed the swivel chair I have from DH. It must be dated from 1990 or so.
The ironing board around here is always placed so that I have to get up to iron by accumulating a bunch of segments and doing them all at once. It is good to get up and about once in a while. Try not to end up in the kitchen eating between meals.
Li – oh, that would be me! In the kitchen looking for a snack!! Ha!
The triangle square layout you chose has been calling my name every since I saw it on a book by “Material Obsession” around 2010. I better get busy.
Wonderful sewing rooms, like Gail’s little quilting machine. That’s what I need to get my so many quilt tops quilted. I am a piecer not a quilter!!! Glad your medical problems are getting better.
Like both of the triangle quilt. Another hot day here in NW NE. Take care. Carol L
Personally, I like your triangle quilt better than the one you saw later!
I remember the 72 Olympics, such a sad time. It has been so hot in Idaho, 107 and tons of smoke. Can’t wait for fall and some rain. I love your quilt Mary. I like the other lay out too. So many possibilities. I’m going bra shopping today, ugh, I need ice tea! Have a great weekend everyone.
Hi Mary-
I really like your triangle square quilt! It seems more “cheerful” than the one you wished you had done.
Thank you for posting all the sewing room pics. i just love seeing how others do things. Also I don’t feel like I’m the only one with so many goodies taking up space as I used to! Just went to my local quilt show a few days ago and I always feel so good to be around others of like mind regarding fabric etc. There are lots of us out there believe me! Hope you get all your health concerns addressed – you have had a rough time of it with the medical community. It is a difficult journey to navigate anymore. Thinking of you and hoping you can get resolution.
We’ve been to many Barry Manilow concerts through the years and he is such a good entertainer. He must admire Caitlin to do that as he is a good dresser on stage and not like some wear today to perform.
I am so jealous of the sewing room that looks like it is a living room. I guess I could clean mine out and do that …..use the sunroom for visiting with the few guests and most like to sit at my kitchen island. I’d have to get rid of lots of furniture but for a sewing room like that, I’d do it! A new idea cause it’s got lots of windows.
So fun seeing everyone’s treasures in their rooms. We fit so much in our sewing havens to look at. I like your HST layout better. Glad you can relax some this weekend knowing it was just pertinent information the phone call appt was for. That’s pretty standard now so all is in your chart. And Patti you are in good company as I too had a high glucose reading after fasting last week and a bunch of bruises to show for it. My doctor asked me what I was eating wrong lately to raise mine as he knows I’m conscious of healthy habits and we agreed it was the pasta kick I’ve been on lately. Pasta salads, spaghetti, you name it, I’ve been craving it. I’ve tried whole wheat pasta but can’t say I liked it as much.
Yesterday I bought fresh peaches, nectarines, corn, tomatoes and a melon at the farm market and ate that to get back on track in this heat. I know Mary, you are groaning over those food choices! Ha!
I think that’s my sewing room you may be referring to. That is actually a game room. I think that most people would make it the kids playroom. Since our son is grown and launched, it’s MY playroom! I do appreciate the space. After my husband retires, the next move will be one where we downsize. I know I won’t have that big space forever!
Jill – it looks like a really good size game room. I surely thought it looked like a living room with all the windows and wall space. Yes do enjoy it while you have it to spread out. Having two smaller bedrooms as my sewing room keeps me active between the two but having one large wide open room would be my dream.
Hi Mary, I love everyone’s sewing room. They are rooms of creative joy. Thanks for sharing.
The Flag house quilt is that one of your patterns? It’s perfect for this election year.
Have a nice day,
Debby from Wisconsin 🐝
I could just sit and stare and stare at all of the interesting things in these sewing rooms!
It’s good to hear you’ve been able to mow again, Mary, hang in there!
Glad to hear you got thru to a compassionate voice in Rochester. I hope that relieved some anxiety for the continuing wait til appointment.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their sewing area photos. Will try to get one to you, too.
Will continue to pray for you, getting some answers from testing results will direct the next steps.
Mary, I like your quilt setting much better than the zig zag one. I think the colors stand out more in yours.
The sewing rooms are so nice to see. Mine is the dining room table so, it travels a lot. Thanks for everyone sharing.
Oooh I forgot to mention that I LOVE the house flag quilt! I’ve seen many flag quilts but not a house flag one. Very nice!
Well one thing I’ve learned about seeing all the sewing rooms… I don’t have to worry about mine being a little messy. 😅 Our sewing rooms are our happy places to have fun!
Mary, thanks for posting the other zig zag version of your triangle quilt. I snapped a photo of both. I like your version, but the zig zag could be fun too!
I am binding now my Candy Mountain quilt (pattern you mailed me) and will send photo after I wash…our water is so low from no rain that I think I’ll have to actually go to the laundromat. Ack!
Keep getting well Mary.
Mary – Love all the sewing room photos. I’ll try to take a couple of pics of my room. It’s not exactly how I envisioned it, but it’s okay until I rearrange it again. I’ll include the chair a friend of mine gave me today.
So glad you called Mayo and got everything straightened out and you’re still on for your in-person appointment. That’s welcome news!
Today’s temp where I live in Washington state was 104°. Tomorrow’s expected to be 100°. Low overnight will be in the 70’s which would be nice if the air quality was better and the wind wasn’t blowing.
Take care everyone.
Sharon – I don’t think I could stand that heat! Got a notice late last nite online that I’m supposed to be at MAYO Monday afternoon for a chest X-ray. Ugh.
Wow…that’s new. I wonder if you’ll ever get the results from that?!?!
late night for me. i did not go to my angel charity meeting today since mr. ed would be off so much for me. well, he didn’t go to work today either. at 3 pm i told him i had to get bloodwork done so off we went to the hospital. sometimes those people are so good at what they do and sometimes they are idiots. today they were idiots. one guy couldn’t find the vein they used last friday night. brought in someone else who took a couple tries to get the needle in the other arm. both of them hurt me. i have a bad bruise (but does not compete with mary’s). remembered tonight that i had been told by quest (place that does bloodwork) that the people there are better at what they do. think i’m going to go back there, then i can go by myself if i just remember to make an appointment. i have to do this every 2-3 months.
did try to find backing for two quilts from what is available downstairs. nothing was large enough or the right colors. so maybe i’ll try again tomorrow. i can use the wide plaids (as in 58-60″ wide) and then they’ll be gone also. still babying the back after doing too much on thursday. finally mr ed went out and brought back burgers. basically not a productive day. not a good day emotionally but i’m basically fine. just disappointing. thanks for all for the kudos on attitude. i have mostly good days.
hope to sew tomorrow. we’re expecting tropical storm debby to hit sometime sunday afternoon or evening, we are mostly expecting rain and quite a bit of it. that’s okay as long as the electricity stays on. i need it for the oxygen machine.
mary, i’m glad you got everything sorted out about the appointment and phone calls, etc. with the hospital. also glad someone is going with you to be an extra set of ears. the portals can be good but they can be a pain also. just pulled my bloodwork results. i didn’t eat before i had the test but my glucose numbers were high. how? other numbers were higher also. maybe i should just eat ice cream and junk food before i get these tests. they come out good then. oh well. bed for me. take care all, patti in florida
Patti – oh, what you’re going thru! Makes my situation sound like a breeze. So what if the power does go off and you don’t have your oxygen machine? So you have a generator? Or so you get by the best you can? Sounds scary to me. And when you say lots of rain, do you mean several inches? Do you need anything to help make these small quilts you give to charity? Yes, just eat ice cream! Haha!!
Is that a pool table that is used as the cutting table in photo #5? Oh, how I love all the birds in JustGail’s window! Yes, I remember the dreadful 1972 Olympics.
I do like the half square triangle setting that you found. It’s like a rail fence but not. I hope you had a cooler day today when you mowed. We had a pretty warm day today with a breeze and so it was tolerable in the ND shade. I hope everyone has a relaxing but productive weekend.
It is not a pool table, but a nice table that I saw one day on Facebook marketplace. It was only $40! Very solid. The legs were so wide, my husband made the risers for it. I keep a 24×36 cutting mat on it and I have room for rulers and fabric to pile up!
I’m glad this group encouraged you to call Mayo.
I really as’more all the quilting rooms. All different but productive spaces.
Mary I really like your quilt layout but I really like the zigzag one too.
It’s been so hot and miserable here in Md and I’ve been a sloth and a slug. I like to be outside but I start feeling ill out there for any length of time. The heat just drains you. So I’ve been watching a lot of the Olympics. What an excuse.
Oh Barry! What fun. I bet everyone enjoyed that immensely. Did he write a song about Caitlin?
There’s not much to mow here. Just weeds that can survive anything.
There’s a tropical depression/storm coming up the east coast. Her name is Debby. Of course they don’t know the exact tract yet. It may be our only hope for rain if we’re lucky.
The parking! Do people have any clue? A convenient space just because? I’m special.
I’m out. Prayers for you. Happy Sunday.
