Last week when Angela brought me the nice chair and ottoman, I moved Keeper’s big chair out to the quilt shop to make room. I couldn’t stand him looking longingly at the spot where HIS chair was supposed to be so I hauled out the tan leather recliner that hurts my neck and brought the big red chair back from the quilt shop – by myself – because I wanted to do it right then, not tomorrow or next week!

I got it loaded on the cart, across the gravel driveway and up the ramp to the door.

Help arrived. Haha!!!

This chair was Connie’s – it has been around the block. It’s next stop is the barn – I think Barney needs it this winter and I will keep my eyes open at the thrift store for another chair I think Keeper will like.
The tan recliner is in the back of Rick’s truck going to the thrift store. It puts a crink in my neck every time I fall asleep in it.

A reader asked about this vignette from yesterday. This barn quilt is made of Dibond which we developed years ago with our printer. We sold small barn quilts like this one as well as 4’x4’ barn quilts. We even shipped them but all those years ago the shipping cost was more than the barn quilt. I can’t imagine what it would be today.
Are any of you having trouble finding my daily post? Is it in its normal place or in the junk file which is where Becky finds hers? HA! Another reader can’t leave a comment which she always did. What is happening….again? I will need to contact Richard but I first want to hear what’s happening out there in readerland.

I am trying this reply post. Although I get e-mail from the first two bloggers that I read, you and most of the bloggers I read have an individual dedicated icon on the home screen of my tablet. So, I just use it to directly access the blog. I see ads in most of the blogs. This is my first try to reply to you. Fingers crossed.
Marie L – thank you for leaving a comment – the discussion is what keeps me engaged with my readers. Otherwise it’s just me yakking away!
I’ve had trouble with all my blog sites after update to Windows 11.
Nancy – Gosh, I wonder if that’s what happened here – such a nuisance!!!
I have had issues with receiving your emails. I wonder if the fact is that I have a Yahoo account..
I was subscribed to your blog in the past but your post suddenly stopped however, was able to get it off of the internet. Have since tried to subscribe but no go. My email address is: mikkimachoward@gmail.com. Would you please see if you can get me on your list? Thank you.
no problem here.
you are really funny , Love all the stories, such a great mom to move that chair back for Keeper, I don’t blame him it does look comfy.
the only way I can comment, I have to click on the title of the post, If I click on the blog name I get all the blogs and cannot comment.
this joke, I’m with you
Working from a laptop — all is well. I hope the computer issues self-heal. When I complain of ‘puter issues, my hub and my brother always ask, “Did you re-boot?” If only all the problems were that simply solved.
Such interesting and beautiful photos today. Hazel’s “stink eye” cracks me up.
Love your flat stomach/talk back humor!
How are the chickens doing these days? Our farm chicks are in a pile of trouble. Seems the hawks have discovered they are free roaming. We lost a beautiful bird last week, the best layer. Not sure how hub will handle this.
It seems like the fall colors here exploded over night. So beautiful against the blue sky this morning.
A blessed week to you!
I get your email in my regular inbox, no problems. The pictures of the animals are all fun, and I can imagine your pain getting that chair loaded up and into the house! We can’t wait on these men forever, can we?
Everything with your blog is working well here. The blog comes to our email; I click on the title, so I can reply and click on the ads.
I love hearing about your fur babies. How is it going between Hazel and Morti?
Take Care, 🥰
No blog problems. Hope I’m not jinxing myself!
I get it in email then go to the blog.
When I comments, it goes through with no issues
Hope this helps
Enjoy your blog a lot…thank you
Your chair moving helpers cracked me up!
My “instruction manual” passed away so I’m figuring out many things by myself. Not fun, but I do feel accomplished when things work. I’m loving the battery powered tools except when they attack me. The little chain saw gave me some new scars last week. I try to coordinate the band-aids with my outfit of the day.
Mary, sometimes I have trouble with the ads. I click em and I’m taken to the product web site. Over and over. However, the next day…all is well. They close like well behaved doors.
Plus, I reply in the comments section and have no idea where it goes. Not to your comments section.
Again, the next day they show up. I miss my “instruction manual “.
My favorite product find at the show this summer is the zipper tool. I don’t make bags, but if someone does, it worked so slick. Another product I found a few years ago is “Grippy” it’s a spray for your rulers, appliqué templates, anything you don’t want to move while cutting or marking. It puts the film in the rulers. It’s not sticking, just grippy. The jail ladies love it too.
🙂 🙂 🙂 Coordinating your bandaids 🙂 🙂 🙂
Many times a week, my mind is willing, but my body has a different idea …
one of my boys told me that I was going to get Dad arrested because I looked like I had been battered LOL I did get battered, but it was the pantry shelf that collapsed instead of anything alive!
Jo!
Please tell me about the zipper tool! I need to replace a couple zippers in my polar fleece jackets!
Check with Lyons Quilting in Lyons Colorado. It’s the zipper tool that they demo hanging on the wall in the classroom.
Your post comes to me thru email and I click over to the blog. No issues that I can see. On another note I have looked and looked for the pic of my first quilt made for my first great nephew. That poor thing got passed down to 3 or 4 more kids and ended up in tatters.
Rita – as quilts should be! Loved and used till they’re in tatters
Everything is fine for me to read the blog! I always go directly from my browser.
Mary, I hadn’t noticed any difference in the emails and the blog. Half of the time, I access the blog via email, and the other half I just go directly to the blog. The only time I can’t post a comment is if no one else has posted the first comment. Once there is at least one comment, the comment box then appears. This has been an on-going issue for me and it is not new. Janice, Traverse City area.
No problem with your blog. I get it in my inbox. Your fur babies are definitely not helping you with moving of the chair. I am with you on “if you want something done-do it yourself” good for you.
I think Hazel has a little jealousy with Mortie sitting on your lap for sure.
Love the Good Women sign!
All the same here on reading your post. Emails are coming into my my inbox. Check on read the blog and I can see the ads and the Reply box. Same on my kindle as in my iPhone. Some ads are truly and can’t be closed. Too annoying to open them.
Poor Keeper lost his chair! I’d hate to have a recliner i couldn’t sit in, too!
Yesterday I worked on hand mending my first quilt. Decided to make blue circles to represent balloons for Pooh. Ha. I did this while watching the football games and I believe it really relaxed me. My great-grandson was born in Friday. A little over 8 lbs. Thank God for a healthy baby and a healthy delivery! His mother is one of the sweetest women I’ve ever met. I am so happy for her.
No problems here with the blog. 🙂 Enjoyed the pictures and comments today, as usual – especially the last entry about a good woman.
Jan
I can read, I can respond, I can do the “X”… today’s ad was the same ad about 20 times. Wabi-sabi furniture… who wants “flawed” furnishings unless it’s a dog chair or goat sofa!
I’m seeing the blog and replies with no issues. SO happy this morning! We got 1.5 inches of rain overnight in Champaign, IL First in several long, hot weeks. My plants are smiling and I was able to use my burn barrel for my paper trash for the first time in over a month.
28 here this morning. Thankfully I’d cleared out my garden. I’ve still got basil and will make pesto to freeze before the day is out and then I’ll be done for the year.
No changes on the blog on my end. I can’t leave a comment if I’m reading on my phone–have to open up the blog on my computer and then I have the option. That’s new as of a year or so ago, but not recent.
Hazel sure has a personality. I enjoy seeing what she’s up to!
You and I are a bit alike, Mary. I once decided a whole bedroom set needed to be moved to another room and I somehow did it by myself. Honestly, the queen sized mattress was the toughest wrestling match. At one point I had it jammed in the doorway and I was trapped for quite awhile in that bedroom until I eventually got it free and moving again. Not fun, but I felt pretty accomplished when I got the job done! Hope you are not sore today from your moving yesterday!
Cool down! 40 this morning.
What’s going on here? Friday was a long arm day and today I plan to finish that up. Yesterday after a walk it was grooming shrubs and hedges. Whew–hard work holding that puppy up to trim the red bush especially. I have to clean up today. Repotted plants that need to come in. Drained the hose and put it up on the deck for the winter after cleaning back/northside windows. Worked on binding last night. Slept in this morning.
Mary, keep up doing what you can. If you don’t use it, you lose it–in reference to the body. I live alone and surprise myself with what I can still do.
Loved the photos today. They make me smile and start off my day knowing things are all well and still thriving.
Everything good here. Usually on my desktop so I’m a day behind.
Yup! So true! And sometimes some have no filter!!🤣🤣
Everything is fine with email and ads and comments!
Keeper is just like old people who do not like change! Making you bring his chair back to the house! He rules that’s for sure! Funny! Mortie has your lap, and Hazel is jealous!
Have a good day!
no changes here!! Everything is working fine. Lots of rain over night and today. I am hoping to get my garden clean up underway this week before it gets bitter cold. I am seeing my cardiologist on Thursday for six -month checkup. Everyone have a good week.
All good here for your posts…. thankfully!
The humor: I recently commented to a long-time friend that I believe I have lost my “filter.” The response was “Didn’t know you ever had one!”. LoL nothing like a good friend!
Bonny,
No worries, I’ve been told the same thing many times in my life. I like to believe we just help/represent all of those people who are too scared to speak up.
The quote cracked me up!
So glad you were able to move the chair by yourself. It’s amazing how much we can do when we have the motivation!
Mary, I love your blog. It comes in email but lately I click on an option to read it as a blog so I can click on ads. I have yet to see an ad. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Chris in SC
Chris, your web browser probably has an ad blocker. There is a way to choose to turn the blocker off for specific websites, and leave it enabled for all other websites. But you’ll need to learn how your specific browser and blocker work. I have mine turned off for Mary’s blog, Jo Kramer’s blog and several others.
Thanks I’ll look into that. However I do get the ads in Jo’s blog
I’ve had no problems or changes in reading or replying to your blog. With computers, I always feel like it will clear up problems on its own.
Like Mary, I’m interested in knowing the latest trends in quilts from those lucky enough to attend recent quilt shows. I love traditional quilts but, always interested in what’s new.
Light rain here today with temperatures labove average for this area. Still some beautiful colored leaves but, definitely past peak for our fall show.
No changes with your blog coming through my email. Click on “read on blog ” and able to read and comment.
We got almost an inch of much needed rain overnight. It sounded so pleasant. I visited a dear friend yesterday that had 3 stents put in last week. She looked good! Have a good week all!
I didn’t get the blog for 6 weeks or so, even after signing up again. Then it randomly started arriving again. I get it on email. I can only open ads right now, there is no x to delete them.
Mary, the ads I get don’t have an X in the corner anymore. There is a triangle on the left, with 3 dots (stacked vertically) beside it. If you click on that, you can delete the ad … most of the time! At least that’s how it works in my iPad, and I get lots of ads! Hope this works for you.
Now today your blog came in my inbox email like it usually does. Only yesterday it was in my junk mail. I’ve always done as you instructed us how to read it by clicking on the title to go to internet and that’s how I read the comments but trying to post a comment directs me to a site saying it’s checking to see if I’m a human. So it’s probably just me as others seem ok. Don’t worry about it Mary cause tomorrow as computers go, everything will be just fine or nothing will work.
And it worked today letting me post a comment so it was a computer gremlin not wanting me to open my mouth ! Ha! Perfect cartoon for the day.
Your blog comes in my inbox, but to reply I have to touch on read on the blog. Occasionally I notice a difference in replying & can’t until someone else replies, but that usually clears up in a day or so. I figure there’s just been an update. I also can click on the ads each time I check for comments. I’m leaving for my annual quilting retreat today in Holmes County. We’ve been doing this close to 25 yrs. I think there’s 3 of us that are from the original group. Ron is taking me to meet the others at the coordinator’s home. I think there’s 5 or 6 cars travelling. Good thing we loaded the car last night! It’s windy & pouring rain today. Boots will be spending the week with Ron & wasn’t happy when he saw Ron take his kennel out the door with food & treats! Since the hotel only serves breakfast we can bring food & treats to share. This hotel has been so good to us every year. So looking forward to being able to sit & sew for a week & visit a few quilt shops! Mortie had certainly made herself quite at home! She’s adorable, makes me wonder who had her before. She’s certainly found her forever home with Momma Mary!💕
We have a group that goes to Holmes County next week. A friend and I have been going for 3 years. We’re just down the road from Zink’s if we run out of fabric, and walking distance to Helping Hands. Enjoy your retreat.
I get the blog thru email, click on the link at the top that says “read on blog” then I can read and comment. All seems the same for me
Absolutely LOVE the good woman joke – I’m with you 🤣
Mortie and Hank are so cute together and love the barn quilt
No changes to blog here. Following your directions to click on read on the blog lets you comment..
Mary, I usually open your blog in the browser as it takes awhile for my email to load. I do see your email in my inbox. I can’t see replies or leave a reply unless I go up under the title to the post and hit that ‘button’ which today said leave a reply but sometimes says 29 replies or something like that.
Love your ‘git er done’ spirit.
I get your blog through email. I click on the title and then I can read the post, click on the ads and reply. I’ve seen no changes and haven’t had a problem. I LOVE the leaf quilt on the wall, the different sizes of leaves make it stunning. You get such good pictures of your animals, love seeing them. Totally agree with the saying, my stomach is definitely not flat and my mouth speaks. I saw and saying and had my friend stitch it on a bag. It says “I have a good heart, but this mouth.” Interesting about the quilt block made with Dibond. It’s supposed to rain all day here, but I’m glad because I just put major plants in the ground from a friend.
Diane – your 70 new plants will be so happy with the rain and will get a good start.
I do the same as Diane O in Michigan and have had no problems.
So many great pictures today. I just love Mortie; orange cats were always my favorite and still are.
Have a great day everyone.
The only difference I have noticed is that the ads along the side won’t delete – they open to a site. All ads in the middle delete just like always.
Minnesota has finally got some rain – much needed. Most of the soy beans have been harvested so that’s good. Most of the corn is also harvested but that can wait a bit until it dries out.
Hi Mary. I receive your blog in my email, but I have to click on Read on the blog in order to comment. The ads seem to be there and go to their websites when I do so. I think Connie must put your blog in her favorites so that her computer, laptop knows that your blog is not trash. The archives show up and recent comments. So Word Press is doing good for me, but then I receive several blogs from them. Love Mortie and Hank. I can so sympathize not wanting to wait for next tomorrow, next week, next month. I hear that a good bit, and then I have torem8nd him multiple times just to get that done… sigh.
All is well in receiving your blog. Click on the title and it goes to the browser to read, close ads and reply. Cleaned up pepper plants, pulled the zinnias, marigolds yesterday. Cutting some spinach that I planted in September. Not a lot but enough to have a meal. Will have more walnuts to rake this week. No sewing but there will be time for that.
Enjoy the fall weather as it too is going to change.
Everything is fine here. I get your blog via email, then I click on the title to see and post comments.
Nothing has changed on this end. Still receiving in my email and go to the top to click Read on Blog.
Gaylen had his left knee replacement surgery on Thursday. Friday we were back in Waterloo for physical therapy. After the hour session the therapist told him he could do more the day after surgery than most people 2-3 weeks after surgery. He used the walker Thursday and Friday but Saturday it was in the corner and he’s using a cane. We’re staying in the lodge because it’s all one level but he walks back and forth between the lodge and house every day. PT three times a week for six weeks. I’m so glad his recovery isn’t a problem.
Gloria – that is wonderful news about Gaylen!! He’ll be doing steps before you know it, won’t he? So great you have that option of staying at the lodge where there are no steps. Wishing him the very best!!
Thank you Mary!!!
I’m with you!
I went back to email to check what comes through, so I was able to click on all the ads twice😊 The annoying thing is that they are between the photos and their captions. In the email I click on “Read on blog” at the top, and it goes through to everything on the full screen.
This weekend I’ve been to a small quilt exhibition, and spent small amounts of time in the garden, planting, weeding, watering. Our Spring has been rather erratic, windy, and not enough rain. I’ve enjoyed seeing the photos of autumn leaves and trees from the other side of the world.
Pauline in South Australia
I’m with you Mary, and lovely to see Fluffy Bun again, cheers
You always show up in my inbox.
I don’t reply very often, usually because everyone has already said what
I wanted to say.
As always I love your blog about nothing.
Dorothy in W WA
The blog shows up in my inbox just fine. I don’t get to reading it until late at night since I signed up for the Women’s Bible book study at church and need to do that first thing in the morning now. I love your helpers moving the chair! They are so curious. Good to see Fluffy Bun. I keep trying to name all your cats, but I think I am missing a few! HAHA Tim, Barney, FluffyBun, Mortie, Gracie, Greta, Three. Love all your fall colors showing up, not so much here in the desert. I received American Harvest this week. Thank you! The things that quilters are up to here are cross stitching in the evenings, big fancy embroidery machine sew-ins and a lot of drop in sewing days for quilters. My stepsister is in town for her class reunion and we are meeting for lunch tomorrow. It’ll be another gorgeous day at 81*.
Mary – Leaving a reply tonight. I hope it posts. They usually do. I receive the blog through my email. But I can search for it too and if I do it that way, it’s on my laptop. I typically open it and read it through my email on my I-phone.
I went to an antique sale today. I bought a dahlia quilt, 8 embroidered placemats, and a Jim Shore lion and lamb figurine. None of the items were “antique” but had a blast and love spending time just looking. My sister bought a beautiful antique church pew. It was delivered to her house before we returned from the sale. That’s customers service! 😂
It’s been raining where I live in Eastern Washington. Kind of nice after a dry hot summer.
Take care everyone!
I find your blog in my inbox to0. I use google for my browser so I have the blog bookmarked. i go there to read and write replies and to click on ads. i’ve had no problems.
I love Hazel giving you the “eye”! All is well from here. I learned that reading on my phone and by clicking on Read on the Blog is how I can click on the ads! I’m in New Bedford visiting a friend. Its been a wonderful weekend. So much history here and the weather has been great! Jan in MA
Oh, hell ya, we talk back! Those two gingers (Hankster and Miss Mortie) are soul mates … sorry Hazel! You did a great job on Keeper’s chair cushion. The fabric matches perfectly. Maybe you can find another chair for Barney for the winter. I can’t really help with the blog. I google your website every day to read the blog. I don’t subscribe to any blogs, but I read them daily (yours, for sure, and a few others). If this comment shows up, I guess I can reply too.
Yesterday’s post was in junk mail but today’s was normal.
Just came home from Spokane, WA today after attending Washington State Quilters 47th annual quilt show yesterday. It’s big – with over 500 quilts displayed and lots of vendors. My friend and I had a great time and indulged in a bit of retail therapy! There were some very nice quilts. The weather was chilly but lots of sunshine. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow.
Tina – please tell me what was popular at the quilt show? What are the popular colors? What was your favorite quilt? New notions? I’d love to hear details.
There were several quilts made with Tim Holtz fabric which I liked. Color-wise it was all over the board. Lots of Jen Kingwell and Lori Holt types of colors, lots of hand appliquéd quilts and one really beautiful hand quilted whole cloth quilt. Robin (Ruth) Long was the featured quilter. She does amazing Mariner’s Compass quilts easily with her special rulers. There were exhibits of quilts made in a workshop – all the same pattern but different fabrics. One fun new notion is called the Sew Stack. They are stackable boxes with a lid that hold thread, spools, presser feet, etc. They’re made in the USA. Look them up on line. They come in lots of different colors. I’m kicking myself now because I didn’t buy any! Oh well. We spent about five hours(!) at the show and were really on overload by the time we left.
Hi Mary, l press on read on blog to read and reply, can’t reply unless l do this,it was information you gave us, no changes recently. Just home from cousin’s birthday, just 6 of us and cake!
I find the blog in my inbox like always and I’m leaving this comment so that’s working fine. Just lo e your animal adventures. Today I attended our quilt guild Quilt show here in Dubuque, so much talent and they had vendors with such variety of goodies. Fun time with friends.
Francine – what’s popular in that area?
There is such a huge variety. I don’t do applique and the Best of show was a gorgeous hand applique one. I like old reproduction patterns and fabrics and there was a couple of those. We had 11 vendors selling their wares. Also 100 quilts that were judged and 14 non-judged. It was a beautiful place to spend time.
Francine – oh what fun!!! I love looking at quilts – especially the pieced ones. I do admire hand appliqué but can’t do it!!
Everything seems ok on the Oct 18 post. Using a laptop and the Firefox brower always visit by going directly to https://chickenscratchcountrythreads.com/.
Clicking on the the title of the daily post brings up this “Leave a Reply” box.
Have not noticed anything different over the last couple of weeks but don’t reply all that often.
