Becky and I went to Thursday Night On Main tonight but the wind came up and then it began to rain. We didn’t like the band anyway so we had an ice cream cone and went home. The very best thing about this event is the dogs! People bring their dogs into this crowd of people – I never think it’s a good idea but….. I stop and talk to every single one of them. Becky and I wonder how Hazel would handle it. Maybe we’ll get brave and try it.

After last night’s volume this is short.

Hi All! It was a rainy day off & on here. I worked on donation quilts most of the day. Then my nephew dropped in with 7 pair of jeans that needed shortened! Not exactly how I like spending my sewing time. Oh well, it’s always good to see him. Have a great night everybody.

Thanks for the post, Mary! No matter how small it is worth every word! We got only a few rushing drops during the rain that came thru! Bummer! Hope we get some soon!
Sorry you didn’t enjoy the music, but you still got to see all the doggies! They are the best! AND most important.
I’m still not feeling well enough to do much! This sinus cold crap really has kicked my butt! Ugh! Jays Cpap quit so we made a trip to Sioux Falls, went to Costco, picked up meds and had pizza. Ok a nap when Ed got home 😉

Managed make a pan of brownies and get some food ready for grilling with Father’s Day upon us. We will celebrate on Saturday with our kids since Sunday is the church picnic. I did manage to sew a few blocks for my Kathleen Tracy miniature that I’m working on. Happy National Sewing Machine Day. I wish the rain would stop and it would warm up; I’m just done with the cold crappy weather and grey skies.

I think that no matter how well a dog may behave in public places it is still a disaster waiting to happen. An unexpected loud noise, a boisterous child pulling the dog’s ears or stepping on a paw, an accidental bumping into the dog or his human and the dog could go ballistic. I just feel that pets should be left at home. Can you imagine the horror of a dog tearing into a small child simply because of any of these instances???

Sharon – as much as I love dogs, they are unpredictable . Many years ago I rescued a golden doodle that became argumentative with our other dog, Telly. Customers brought their kids here all the time and many times toddlers arrived in strollers – right at dog mouth level. At that time we didn’t have a fenced yard. I was so terrified at what could happen we euthanized the dog who we simply couldn’t trust anymore. She attacked Telly badly as well and we felt we had no choice. We think that’s why her former owners offered her for free. I look at all those fantastic dogs on crowded Main Street and shudder. The little dachshund is walking on the street where anybody could step on him and kill him!!! It could keep me from attending – a dog fight is something you just can’t unsee!

Mary, A couple of days ago you asked me what good book I had read lately – The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick. I’m of the age to remember with the book Feminine Mystic was published. Loved yesterday’s show. Kathy, I feel so sorry for that poor little puppy – that almost crosses the line for abuse. My cat hates fireworks – for the whole week before the 4th, he cowers in a dark corner under a table in my office in the basement. On my computer, I turn on calming music to help drown out the sounds outside. Although my husband is his preferred human, Leon is happy to hang out with me that week.

Linda , I too dread the fireworks upsetting my dogs so I turn on the PBS musical concert to help drown out anyone shooting them off. I tried talking to the young man that the dog probably would prefer to be home away from the constant barrage of loud noises but he wouldn’t converse with me and just shrugged his shoulders.

Kathy – think how many dogs are abused in this world – even something like this that upset the dog. The young man did not care. And the dog suffered the kid’s ignorance. Thanks for trying, Kathy.

Last week we were at a parade filled with loud noises of fire truck sirens, marching drum lines and a float featuring a small hot air balloon shooting flames from the top which was a little too close for comfort with fire for us. A young man had a 6 mo old black lab puppy in front of us that was going balastic with every piercing siren sound and drum. I felt so sorry for it and when he crawled towards us as the man had him on a leash I would cover his ears. I told my husband on the way home there is no way that dog will calm down that night after over an hour of that noise. It was wrong for him to stay there on the street so close to it all. There’s other ways for socializing. It honestly ruined the parade for me thinking of how some people don’t think of how their pets are reacting and pay attention to act appropriately. I can’t blame the firemen for the high piercing sirens blaring during the parade as the kids love them but us not so much. A firehouse is near us so when they come down our road answering calls it is very loud but is needed due to so many distracted drivers now on cell phones and driving with ear buds for work calls.
