On this Friday the 13th I finished putting on all the screens – washing windows and screens first. Ugh.
Hank came for a short visit with his BFF late in the afternoon. Tomorrow we’re cleaning the barn. I’m extra tired just thinking about it.
Talk tomorrow.

I can’t imagine doing windows one day and barn cleaning the next. I hope you have helpers as you have some years in the past. You will surely be tired and deserve an iced tea, or two. Your animals are so lucky to have such generous and loving care.
Sandy – I have the most wonderful people who help me! Yes, I am tired!
I put window washing on my “do not care “ list.
Deb – good for you! It’s one of those that stays near the top of my list! 20 windows that look out on my whole world!
LOL! It truly belongs there 🙂
When we lived in England, the landlord hired a window washer who came every month. At first, I was quite bothered by someone looking in every window, but I quickly appreciated the extra light as it is so dull and grey most of the year. It’s not such a chore there as there are No Window Screens. None. Even the hospital where I gave birth opened the windows daily in the maternity ward!
Now, I cheat a bit. Windex sells a product that I get at Lowes or Home Depot that connects to the hose. I just walk around the house with the hose, spray the windows with the hose and cleaner and call it good enough.
As we “gracefully” age, the chores get harder. We are tired before we begin.
I managed something yesterday that was a first for me. I am having a deck replaced and rebuilt. Small and level with my house. You can get a an on line print out and plan of needed materials. My builder used that and dropped the materials list off to me. I went over the list and had questions of needs of stuff included. They had stair risers etc. listed. I figured out what they are but I still asked. So a few things were dropped off the list and the guy taking the order pulled a couple things too. The list on the computer lasts only 24 hrs on their computer so the guy had to type it all back in. Very efficient. Then proceed to delivery. Almost $200 just for delivery. So I left a big chunk of money there. And I walked in the door and asked where to go and they pointed to the far left corner. Huge store–Menards! Got a good walk in! I am a quilter not a builder! ha ha Stuff like this takes me away from my sewing ,machine! Don’t feel bad for me though, ha, I just came off a 4 day quilt retreT.
Fran – wow, that’s a huge job figuring out how to build a deck. What did you sew at the retreat?
I have been the person in charge of washing windows most of my married life and I’m so glad that our new house has one floor and the windows are easily washed from the inside. Our 2 children each bought a home across the street from us. Our son apparently loves to wash windows as he did his and his sisters last week. I had him put us on the rotation list and he was more than willing! Who knew I raised a child who loves to do windows, it’s quite easy for him he is 6’4 and has really long arms. Lucky me. I wish you a good day cleaning the barn, lots of sunshine and warmer weather. Looking forward to pictures.
One of my least favorite house chores is window washing. Luckily, my husband helps & our windows turn in. With that advantage, it still takes 2 to steady the window and one to wash. Our upstairs is my sewing room so screens are wrestled in. This year it was kinda windy to be doing that🤦🏼♀️ Luckily, we didn’t lose any screens.
Barn cleaning brings back childhood memories. We had large animals as the chickens had their own’ house’ to be cleaned out too. Good luck and speedy recovery. Can’t imagine doing that at our age.
Took a field trip yesterday by myself while my husband traveled to visit a friend. I went to Pohlar Fabrics in Liberty IN. I was familiar w/ them at an annual one stop shop hop in Dayton. It was absolutely a delight to shop there. I will be returning although I did put a dent in my quilting fund🤣🙄
Marcia – with 20 double hung windows on the east and south I no longer put all the screens on. It’s not hard but just another chore on my long list. Would love to shop with you!
I am in Columbus & washed windows this week too & now my wrist feels like it is sprained & hurts like crazy! I’m wish Imdid not inherit my Mother’s need to clean!
Karen – I use a squigie – really helps on my hands.
