After a very cold morning doing chores I went to Mason City to get my hair cut – this time I think she got it just right – pretty short but exactly the shape I want.
After a quick stop at home to get Hazel I drove the opposite direction to Algona for a pedicure – back at Innovations where I used to get my pedicures until I thought it would be easier to do it in Mason City because I do everything else there. And then you know what happened – infected feet from another salon that landed me at Mayo.
Tonight my feet feel heavenly!!! Ahhhhhh!

Shoulders still aching so after PT tomorrow morning I’m going on to the chiropractor. It’s supposed to be soooo cold tomorrow and thru the weekend!!! Ugh. When I get home from the chiropractor tomorrow I’m not going anywhere until church ….except the barn. While housebound I’m going to work on our next group project – I’m not getting too far.
It goes without saying – be safe in this deadly weather!

Mary,
Love the DD finishes. I sent my picture today. I use flax seeds in my “warmie” bags. Smells good, too.
Mortie is so dang cute!
Take care everyone. 🌻
Oh man! I have a story about a rice bag, my mom was in the nursing home and one of the CNAs made one for her. Mom would go in the activity room and warm up her own rice bag. Well, one day it heated too long and smelled like burned rice! All through the nursing home! 😝. Consequently that was the last time she could warm up her own rice bag!
Hello everyone. Nice finish on all the quilts. I have made the CT sled also, so cute. Mortie is so cute. Just waiting for her picture to be taken. Yesterday was a visit for yearly eye checkup. No changes there. And the on to the dentist. Finished up with some odd errands.
Grandson in Texas finally went back to school today. Kim said the roads were finally getting better.
Working on pineapple blocks and sewed on the binding on a small quilt that I’m handing quilting. Will hopefully finish the hand quilting and binding in Florida. Hope it warms up down there also.
That hidden cat!!
Getting your hair cut exactly as you want is rare, but hooray for you. And to get your feet done is icing on the cake, and without issues too.
Because there are so many wheat farmers here, our microwave heat pads are filled with wheat berries. They smell good too. I made a “pillow case” for it so I can wash that cover.
Jo – wheat berries! Never heard of such a thing!
Long grain rice works best for rice bags. Make a double walled bag for extra strength. You can sew channels into the bag to help keep the rice distributed. Pour rice into the channels, being careful not to overfill. Then sew the bag shut.
It’s fun to see the variety of DD projects. It’s also wonderful to have that project cleared from your mind. Diane, Squeak and Buddy, I hope to have a picture of the projects inspired by your cardinal/bird quilt, posted a few weeks back, to Mary by the end of the weekend.
I have one of those flannel rice bags. Mine, given to me, is about the size of a bag of rice, but, I didn’t know about putting a few drops of water on it before placing it in the microwave. It seemed to work okay for me up to this point with just the heat from the microwave.
Mary, I met with friends last week and took a poll on pedicure experiences. None have had issues, but mentioned tools being sterilized between customers and plastic liners placed in the foot tub, thrown out after each customer. I’m glad you’re back to heavenly feet.
Take care all.
Haircut day is the only day I feel ‘pretty’! Wish it would last. Mortie is such a cutie, hiding in the drawer and holding down your coat. One of our cats can hide so well we can’t find him, then eventually he appears — we still haven’t figured out for sure where he goes, but think he might be hiding behind and ‘inside’ the upright piano. As for your Tim cat, do you wonder if he was in your basement all those times you thought he was off at some neighbor’s house? P.S. Loved the story about the German house with 88 steps and how they delivered the furniture and refrigerator–wow.
Sara – yes, I do wonder if Tim was in the basement when I thought he was at his other home!
Love the pic oof the kitty in the drawer!
I am home from retreat and want to stay home but have to go to Council Bluffs. Temp is 4 degrees. Ugh I plan to be home all weekend.
Yes rice bags! I use one but I sometimes alternate with ice pack. Stay away from the drugs if you csn.
Oh I love rice bags. I had my hair cut yesterday too. Boy it’s expensive but when you have short hair it needs maintenance. I don’t think I could grow it out.
Love the quilts, I’ve been working on one but it’s slow. Losing steam. Everyone stay safe
Glad you have happy feet and hair! And Mortie is happy too! Stinker in the drawer…what haappens if you shut her in there?
The weather is a lot like the news! Don’t read it…to depressing!
We went to SF yesterday. Jay walked in the empire Mall. That place is becoming a ghost town, at the main entrance there was a Caribo coffee that I always got a cup of coffee while Jay walked. Closed. !! Most of the people in the mall are walkers, not shoppers. Sad
Mary, Morty is just like Minnie, I can’t open a closet door, drawer or cupboard that Minnie doesn’t try to get into it. She is always getting shut in the bedroom closet and pantry. I am always on guard when doing laundry because she has jumped in the dryer!
For the first time ever, I hate having to go outside. It’s -4 and is expected to only get near 6 today and even over bundling, that hurts. Albert and Norman have been shut in the barn for a full week now and they huddle under their heat lamps for a little comfort. I have old blankets and cutter quilts, I should make them blankets but those two will play with anything they get their teeth on so blankets would be twisted on them immediately.
Glad you have heavenly feet! Blessings all!!
I third those rice bags. My niece made us a couple for Christmas gift one year and she used flannel which feels even softer.
Diane we are taking one of our grandsons out tomorrow for lunch so we’ll be venturing out in this 0 degree temperatures with wind chill -15. But we handle it as I feel bad for people in the south who’ve never had to cope with what’s expected for them. It’ll be hard for many.
So happy to see the #12 projects pictures. I might be down to the wire on a Christmas theme quilt to finish sewing rows and adding a narrow border. I’ve been playing around with heart blocks and I’m anxious to get that up on design wall. It will be fun to see what you come up with Mary for a design we can all do.
Ahhh—pedicures are good for the soul and the sole😀. I agree with Shirley, those rice bags do help. We are actually going out today to take the two college kids to lunch. They are so much fun! As soon as I finish breakfast, I am going to sew on the binding to my DD # 12. Hugs to Mirtie; he is such a sweet baby. Stay safe and warm everyone.
Mary,
If you haven’t tried tbe rice bag trick for your shoulders, please do.
Make 2 bags out of quilt fabric or flannel. Pour a cup of rice in each, seal off, sprinkle with water, put in microwave till nice is hot – 40 sec to 2 min depending on your microwave. Take out and wrap in thin dish towels, lay up on your shoulders for 20 min while you enjoy a cup of “ice tea” 😄 I do ghis for my aching neck and it works. No drugs needed.
Shirley from Central Oregon
Shirley – ok, I’ll buy some rice
