Pictures Tell the Story, 9-27-25

See that spec in the middle of the picture? It’s Greta who follows us to the field every time we go!
There’s that butt that we all know and love!
Look closely at these elderberry seeds – covered with Asian beetles! Soybeans are being harvested across North Iowa – thus the horde of Asian beetles.
And the coveted cat tree – someone’s in the top
Greta!

Here are the baby panels Alice bought – thought you’d like to see them before they became quilts.

Boots!!!!
A reader already finished American Harvest! Wow!! She’ll probably get it hung before fall is in full swing! Well done!
Donation quilt called Vicious Fishes by Teresa
Well said.

A reader called this a corn garland! That’s perfect!

Trying hard to get just the right picture for my files – I keep trying different times of the day with different light. This one in the dark doesn’t make the cut.

Looking forward to church tomorrow! You?

P.S. I’m looking for a 90+ year old who might have a birthday in October. Anyone????

Mary your corn garland is so pretty. That’s too funny Greta likes to go on walks too. There was a dog and cat owner in our old neighbourhood whose cat went along for the walks. A dog on a leash, a cat just following. Those pictures of Hazels butt are always so cute, it makes me wonder what she smells.
Those panels are going to be cute when they are done.
    Have a wonderful day everyone.

Mary, I have to say I absolutely love the corn garland & your geraniums still looks so pretty, too. After the trip to Holmes Co, OH it’s back to the job of finishing the reorganization of the sunroom/sewing room. We had a wonderful time in Amish country & ate at a couple of good restaurants. We always stay at the same hotel & it’s the same one where we have our quilt retreat in Oct. They go above & beyond to accommodate us. We only went to one quilt shop in the area & I was looking for baby panels especially for baby boys. I make baby quilts for the new babies at church. This quilt shop is one of the best in the area. I loved that she has all the panels in one area along with all the coordinating fabrics. This short trip was Ron’s 92nd birthday gift. We both love the area & the drive is just beautiful! We also toured Roscoe Village which is a history lesson on the canals built in Ohio. I’m sure you’ve all heard of the Erie Canal. Very interesting & highly recommend a visit. Boots got to spend 5 days with his friend Preston & they played until they collapsed. My friend & I watch each other’s dogs anytime one of us goes out of town & the dogs love having a playmate! Mary, I’m sure your church is very happy to have you back playing for them. We had a record crowd at church yesterday & a great sermon. Great way to start my week! Hope you all have a lovely week!

Great pictures. Love all the quilt panels. I’m reading this a bit late. I look forward to attending church each week. It is a time of peace and reflection for me. I try to leave church with at least one important idea or something to think about for the coming week. Have a great week everyone.

Hello Mary and readers of the blog! I loved all the photos today, great idea to make a garland out of the corn stalks and adding hydrangea flowers lovely as well! I am interested in which silicon mat you ordered for your new stove, I saw one that had a regular thickness and also a thick one, so interested in what you chose. I can always use extra space as I do not have much counter area. I loved the American Harvest and will try to get one made. The farmers are busy working in the fields on the soybean harvest and a few are chopping corn for high moisture corn for cattle feed as well. The weather has been so good for all of us. My hummingbird migration has just about ended, and every once in a while a small group of robins are in my back yard chattering and using the birdbath. Hard to believe October 1st is this Wednesday.

Cynthia – it’s coming tomorrow and I ordered the thick one – I have no idea if I’ll like it or not. I’ll let you know.

    Great pictures!
Did I miss something??? Is that American Harvest a Country Threads pattern? Is that available????
    Hope you are doing well.

Greta is so sweet to take a walk in the field with all of you. I miss having a kitty so much but with two older dogs it’s enough for me to take to camp.
It’s another warm summer like day here. What a gorgeous fall it’s been.
    Very dry though for us.
I chuckled so much over that cartoon. It’s a good one.
Alice in Ohio did get some cute baby quilt panels. I know the store she mentioned about being good for fabrics as I’ve been there and it is good.

Mary, with all you do I don’t know if you will be at all interested, but reading about Asian beetles, I came across Lost Ladybug Project.org. They are trying to protect the native ladybugs and might be interested in photos and location of your Asian ones. Anyway, I am a former biologist, and I love reading about such things. Your blog is way more than a blog about nothing. As mentioned many times, reading it is such a wonderful part of my day. Thanks so much.

Brenda – oh, that’s interesting! And tell me about your work as a biologist! I’d love to know more. I’ll look up LostLadybug

I will love to see a photo of Gracie! A great post for today. The panels made me want to dig out mine and make one for a one for a 1 year old across the street. I can’t do much big quilting anymore but maybe I could do a baby quilt. I love all the rich colors in the American Harvest quilt. Those Asian beetles look interesting. Can you do a close up? I don’t think I have seen those here.

  9. Fran Dixon

We don’t have much color in the trees yet so enjoying the green. Harvest here on corn. Soon the fields will be bare.

Love the photos today, even Hazel’s butt.

Tuesday thru Friday are day time retreats next town over. I have a guest with me two nights as she is too far from home to go home every night. I am cutting on a new quilt today for this retreat so I am not stuck on other old projects–ha ha. Received bamboo batting yesterday so need to get the quilt quilted I specifically bought it for, quilted. But the long arm can’t go with me to retreat!

Great photos! That American Harvest is so sweet, and though I’d love to get the pattern, I know, realistically, that I would never get it done.

Yes, “corn garland” is the perfect name for your rail decor. Wonderful!

  11. Sandy

Hi Mary, haha! Great joke! Will send photo of quilt l have just finished for a friend’s daughter who has lost her fiance from liver disease, very sad. Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

  12. Sally

Mary, your corn garlands look amazing. Greta is a very sociable cat. How is Gracie doing? I love the American Harvest quilt! I am not much for halloween but I love this for fall. We are looking forward to church too!

Sally – Gracie is Greta’s opposite self – very shy, quiet and laid back. She is beautiful! I’ll take a picture tomorrow

  13. Jeanie S, Central IL

So Greta likes to hang out with Keeper and Hazel; I love it! Maybe she wants to learn how to dig and explore like Hazel. We had a cat who followed us on family walks.
Teresa, the Vicious Fishes is a great quilt!
Mary, your house looks beautiful, and I love the corn garland.
    Thanks, 🥰
