And another birthday girl –
Mary,
My mother will be 103 on October 9th. She was born on a farm in Zanesville, Ohio in 1922 she was the youngest of 7 children. She is a strong Christian and attends church every Sunday at her nursing home. She loves her family and is the oldest of 5 generations, with 5 great great grandchildren. She walks using a walker and comes to my house for holidays.
I will send picture in a separate email of my mother brother and I.

Thank you very much for considering her.

These 2 energetic ladies deserve recognition – I hope you agree and send them a birthday card – cards don’t have to be fancy or expensive. Remember it’s the thought that counts. KINDNESS MATTERS.
………………………..
I’ve been working on that pastel quilt that I’ve named Serendipity. Here is my dilemma. I’m having issues with my printer which I’d like to use to make the master copy to be copied for sale. This would be a new $5 pattern.
Do I really want to buy a new printer? Do I really want to spend my time filling orders? Do I really want that small income that will need to be reported on my taxes? No, no and no! So…..in the next week I’m going to prepare this pattern and print it here in a separate blog post. It will be just the pattern, it will be posted only once and you’ll have to print it out yourself if you want it.
I’ve been lax in blog posts because I’m not feeling that well which I will explain – but will not “BITCH” about. I’m not going through that again.
When you don’t read the blog every day you’ll miss things. This is the VERY LAST TIME I will post American Harvest which has already been posted 4 times and sent by email to other readers who also have not read faithfully. This is a free blog to you at my expense because I enjoy it but I don’t have time to babysit my readers. Sorry to be so cross about this but I reached my overload.

I have a doctor appointment this morning so will sign off with more exciting news tonight.

Hello, Mary. Just dropping in to say I hope you are feeling well very soon. It may be your blog, but I treasure it. The community aspect is priceless. My day is not complete without it. And, like everyone else, I worry when you are silent for a day or two. I’m sad to find out that you are still in misery after 3 weeks. Not good. Give that dr the what-for. Maybe he has forgotten that you are paying him for his time??? I recognize that docs are under stress these days, but that is part of being a modern day doc. So, holler loud and get some real help so you can feel good again. All of this is being said by a mousy gal who can hardly remember her name when she gets in for her dr appointments. 🙂 But, I’ve got your back and I’ll be praying for you, OK? Give the kitties and dogs a hug for me and sit back and rest.
Blessings and blue skies.
I’m really sorry you’re feeling bad – I’m praying you get relief soon.
I have successfully resisted American Harvest up until now because I have fewer years than I have quilt projects. But…. It’s so cute! I am caving. 😁
Please consider adding a “donate” button to your blog. I’ll bet I’m not the only one who would be delighted to help with expenses.
Christine, I second the motion regarding the donate button. Good idea.
I will never add a donate button.
OK. I understand and respect your thought on that.
I will need to figure out another way.
Lindah – another way to do what exactly?
I am sorry to hear about doctors not listening. I was fortunate to have the same primary care doctor for 25 years. We worked well as a team. Yes, she was the doctor, but she always started each visit with “what questions do you have?”. And she listened to me. She retired earlier this year and I asked her to find me a new primary care doctor who is like her. So far, I have been pleased. It makes such a difference. Hang in there. As a retired nurse, I have high expectations of my doctors. Not all meet those expectations. But my primary care doctor is particularly important to me.
I’m so sorry you are having continued health problems. It’s no fun to feel crappy. I’m a month and a week out from my mother passing and just feel a bit lost and bewildered. We planned and did the funeral as a family (Mother & I talked before we even realized how imminent her demise was) and with the help of our kids and my husband did the celebration of life ourselves with the assistance of LifeStory funeral home staff. Then we emptied the house (keep for myself; distribute to grandchildren; donate to charity – Goodwill and Humane Society thrift stores; pitch). The house is under contract and closing to be Oct. 17. I haven’t sewn since July. Still finding places to put Mother’s things that I kept, which necessitates emptying, sorting, arranging and donating of our stuff! Gah! I am so tired. And miss my mother so much.
Marsha – oh, you have your hands full and then some. It’s overwhelming, isn’t it? And on top of it all, you can’t call your mom to help. We are all so sorry for your loss.
Hi Mary, sorry to hear you are still having problems with your hernia, l hope it gets sorted soon! I am techno phobic, panic if l see a computerized sewing machine! Give me a good old Bernina 830 and I am happy! Happy birthday to the 2 ladies! Post to USA 🇺🇸 is no go from new Zealand at the moment, l wonder why?! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sandy – I wouldn’t expect you to pay postage from New Zealand – and neither would our birthday girls. Bernina 830, 1130, and 1230 are all gems! I have 3 – 1230’s and wouldn’t part with any of them.
Mary. I hope you feel better soon. Such a drag to be down!! Yes, Drs are not listening. It’s gotten to be in and out especially for us over 65. We’re lucky if we find one who really listens to us.
I love your blog and as others say…it’s yours to do and give as you please…not make more work for you. You have enough to do.
Praying for you always❤️. Hugs, Sherry in Texas. Mornings are getting cooler but not Winter yet..haha!!
Mary, sure hope you feel better soon. As active as you are you don’t have time to be sick.
Will get my cards sent this week.I can’t imagine reaching that age. I just turned 77.
I love the blog about nothing, and you can “complain about us” all you want, it’s your blog. I enjoy the friendships we share across the miles and the stories of our daily lives. I do hope the doctor visit is beneficial and you get back to par. I had my annual physical which is leading to 2 more appointments. A girlfriend came to stay for a few days, and we went to Warren, Wisc to the Cranberry Fest this past weekend. It was wonderful way to kick off fall. Over 800 vendors and lots of food trucks, music and a flea market. We also took a tour of a cranberry bog and learned a lot about harvesting & growing cranberries. I hope to go again next year. I did pick up one quilt from the long armer so now I need to put the binding on. The weather has been sunny and cooler, so nice to be outside and no asian beetles to speak of.
Mary, may you always feel free to complain about your issues! And I know exactly what you mean by the Dr. not really listening to the patient. The patient is the one who inhabits that body and you like me have for many, many years. Who better to know that body and what it tells us? Those Dr.s would do well to actually quit thinking they know better and start listening more. If only…..
We’re all here to hold your hand as you bitch, give you a hug, wish you purry cats and cuddly dogs. Hope the doctor can help you feel better.
I’m just home from a cross-country trip to sort through things I had to leave in a family vacation home when I moved here. I found an unfinished quilt of my mother’s from around the 1970s: little 9-patch blocks made from 1930s scraps she’d saved. I need to finish it!
Here on the coast of North Carolina, I’m happy to see that Imelda will make a right turn and head out to sea. But sad that it’s now aimed at Bermuda.
What about adding a “Patterns” page where you list the patterns available and the information on ordering? I know if I decided I wanted a pattern a few weeks after you posted it, I’d probably not remember the name to do a search. Then start every post with a “pattern ordering information is in the “Patterns” tab for a while. It *might* save aggravation of reposting the information?
Does your new printer/scanner have a way to print to a memory stick or SD card? That option is probably hiding somewhere down in the menus. I had to do that when my old Cannon no longer could use the USB to my computer and I couldn’t get the wireless transfer to the computer working either.
I totally understand if either of those is more than you want to deal with!!! After all, the blog is supposed to be fun for you now, not yet another job. As for not bitching about not feeling well – I’d bet most of us would probably rather read about health woes than wonder why you aren’t posting.
Heck, Mary, you listened to me bitch about my shoulder when I tore my rotator cuff. You can bitch all you want about whatever you want. Who’s blog is this anyway?!? You make us laugh, inspire us, and encourage us. You give us a precious friendship. You are loved and appreciated far beyond what you realize!
So sorry Mary, that you aren’t felling well. It seems like the older we get, the more time we spend at the doctor’s. And, they don’t even have magazines in the waiting rooms anymore! (Please take that as humor).we are lucky to have our animals to bring us joy.
I’m so sorry you’re under the weather, hopefully your doctor visit will get to the bottom of things. No sewing here, just trying to get the garden put to rest. Still have some tomatoes and chard. The weather is turning and I love fall. We’ll get some much needed rain . I’ll get a couple of cards out today. Have a great day
Hope all goes well at dr appt and you feel better soon
You are very much appreciated
Love your blog
Hope I’m still quilting (and breathing) as long as Irene
I don’t think you’re bitching about your health, you’re reporting, and we want to know about it. Thank you for telling us! I hope you get to the root of what’s making you feel lousy and it has an easy fix. I loved the story about how your look evolved. It makes perfect sense, but I never would have dreamed it came from shop economics. And your morning glories are absolutely stunning! I love them, but now that I’m so far north and right by chilly Lake Superior, it’s just not warm enough to grow them. But I’m not bitching (I also love cooler summers), I’m reporting.
I believe I can find a bird birthday card for Jean and will get another in the mail for Irene. I didn’t know the post could go on strike in any country. These times they are a-changin’, for sure! I’m sorry to hear you aren’t feeling yourself. Praying the medical community can help you out. I was also thinking you had not too long ago bought a new printer. They sure don’t make things like they used to. Look at how long Irene & Jean are lasting!!! Lol!
Sue – yes I do have a new copier but I chose not to have it hooked up to email – I have a small printer in the house that is hooked up to email but not working. Several years old. Copier in shop is professional grade but need an original to copy from
So sorry you’ve been dealing with so much. Always appreciate you taking the time to post on the blog and appreciate you updating all of us on your health. Never consider it complaining, just sharing information. After all, as everyone has said it’s your blog and others don’t need to read it if they don’t like the topic! Continuing to keep you in our prayers and hope the new cream is the solution. Please don’t hesitate to keep us updated. You’re a gem! =:)
Mary, Mary, Mary . . . I love your posts and they make me laugh out loud! If my mom were alive and posting, she would write just like you. Essentially, this is free and if you don’t like it . . . “blog off!” Not that my mom and I ever got along all that well. It has been only since I became my older, wiser self that I realized it was because we were too, too much alike! So, in this order: hope you get to feeling better and complain all you want . . . your blog!; offering your patterns for sale (or free) is a SERVICE so you get to decide if you do or don’t; and, please, keep on blogging for as long as it pleases YOU to DO so because I love a laugh first thing in the morning along w/my coffee and all the beautiful photos of your farm and home . . . it is that little bit of Iowa that I miss and will always be the best part of me.
Mary, I’m sorry you’re not feeling well. Hope you get some help at the doctor’s, and are back to normal soon!
Hey Mary I sympathize with you. My femur broke (on its own) in February due to osteoporosis and it still hasn’t healed. So that along with other chronic issues can really destroy my joy these days.
Also my seemed-healthy neighbor Mark died while mowing grass on Friday. Only 69 and leaves wife Sue and 3 adult kids, 7 grands. He is with his Lord but we are sure going to miss him.
Mary, I do hope your doctors appt results in something fixable, and fast. Nothing better than feeling good.
Nothing worse than feeling crappy.
Lots of readers unload their medical issues in the comments, so, you have every right to lean on us too. I, like others, enjoy your news and the community reading your post. Slowly down is expected and ok…stopping is another story. I have no idea how a blog works…I can’t even find a phone using the “find the handset” button!
I thought you got a new copy machine not too long ago. Maybe last year? Doing all that for a little bit of income is not worth it.
I wish I were closer and could help you, but we’ll be friends across the miles.
Jo! Thank goodness for the ‘find-a-phone’ feature! One time a few years ago..back in the 90’s…I was asked to find the phone as it was lost somewhere in the home Inwas going to clean that day. I found it! Scrunched alongside the wall when I made one of the kids’ bds. I call myself often to find my cellphone cuz some days, who knows where I had it last, just hoping the sound is up on the ringer…
Sorry Mary you aren’t feeling 100%. I would love to mail cards but Canada post is on strike. If I happen to get to the USA in the next week or two I could mail the cards from there but I’m not sure. Wow, two women over 100, I aspire to living that long. Id really like to send cards. Here’s hoping the postal workers can get back to work soon. I will keep the email to reference the addresses just in case.
This is your blog and you can post anything you want! If we don’t like it, we can scroll on by! However, I feel the same way and like to know I’m not the only one complaining about life today. It’s not easy getting old, and my mother-in-law used to say growing old isn’t for sissies and I sure agree with that. It does feel good to vent!
Don’t go to the trouble of buying a printer which takes ink cartridges, etc. Too much money and trouble on your part.
Mary, You are not at all cross with the rest of us. You are very generous but some want to be pampered which is not necessary.
Here’s hoping you feel better soon. You don’t want to miss this crazy weather. Our weatherman said it could get up to 90* this coming Friday (southern Minnesota).
Have a good week everyone.
Fully understand that you want to slow down and size down. Hope it’s nothing serious. But don’t quit moving!
I finally was in $Tree the other day and picked up some cards. i admire both of these women. I have the will and desire to live that long. Will get those cards out next week. I am in full blown retreat prep right now and tidying up the house as I have a guest staying with me for these 4 days of just day time sewing at a community center,
Good Morning Mary,
It’s your blog, you can tell us about your aches and pains. Saturday I washed my windows on the south along with washing the porch. Oh my, those asian beetles are dirty, and they stain the white siding and trim! Yesterday the grandkids helped pick pumpkins, so now I have those decorating my porch. take care.
Mary, hoping and praying you’re feeling better soon.
