Porch TV, 4-20-26

Well, it’s connected and working – my summer will be spent here in this porch. I can’t wait.

Remember this quilt picture from last night’s post? It’s a quilt I saw online and as I looked at it carefully, it could literally be a Country Threads pattern. Here it is: The Free Quilt! Free because I used scraps and in the original I used denim – all free materials. I can send a formal pattern for $5.00 or just tell you that the denim was cut 6-1/2” x 6-1/2” and the squares 2-1/2” x 2-1/2”.

Winds gusted to 40 mph today so I still couldn’t take any quilt pictures. Maybe tomorrow. Mollie is still here until Bob’s sons leave so he can enjoy his time with them. I think Mollie has decided she needs to protect us now so when the tv guys came today I put her in the car just to be safe. Sigh.

I feel like my whole day has been in turmoil and I haven’t gotten one thing accomplished!

I love the Free Quilt. I made two of these quilts a few years ago for both my boys. I had saved their old jeans and cotton shirts over the years and easily made them each a quilt. I love that pattern.

Thought everyone might like to know I got my c-collar off last Wednesday and had my first PT appointment yesterday. My neck is stiff but with PT, it will get better. I have permission to DRIVE AGAIN. So thankful. Thanks again to all who sent me a card or other gifts. It was so heart-warming to hear from complete strangers who wrote such sweet notes in their cards.

Next week, I see the ENT specialist to determine the next steps for nasal surgery. We’re making progress and for that, I am thankful.

Brenda – hallelujah!!!! i can’t imagine how much better you must feel and soon the surgery, too. I am so happy for you. Plus you can drive? Life is good!

I agree with other comments, Sherry, about your creativity with misc. scraps. As Li said, the pinwheels needed to go. Lots of time on your part. Bonnie, the spring quilts are lovely.
TV in the sunroom – why not?! Your “Free Quilt” pattern is so basic and striking at the same time. Thanks for the measurements.
Nellie is showing great care with the chick. Sweet!

Love the brightly colored spring quilts, especially the butterflies. I’m partial! Love all the quilts and pictures of the animals. I love my porch also but no tv there. Mine quit and now I enjoy reading mostly and listening to the bird songs. We have baby bluebirds in the house out back and watching them on a camera tv in our bedroo. Love being upclose and personal with nature. Have a great day everyone!

Thanks, Mary for the info on the Free Quilt.

And Sherry, you made a delicious batch of “lemonade”!

I’m sitting in our sun porch listening to the birds! No wind! Wow! Hubby is discing for the boys. His comment was, now I can do what I want to. 😉. The decisions were getting stressful. The cleaning lady is cleaning! Awesome!
That is so cool that the beautiful bright colored quilt was your pattern. Love it in denim too.
Tomorrow I am taking Agnes to therapy as her boys are busy. We will pick up a pizza and go to her house to have lunch together. She has gotten several more cards she said. So thoughtful of all of you. It is supposed to be to be windy, but maybe we could sit outside to eat away from the wind? She loves birds and has several bird houses for the wrens.

Joy – we’re having the perfect spring day! Warm and no wind!!! Tell Agnes hi from all of us – pizza for lunch outside – life is good!

Sherry, what beautiful quilts you made with your “lemons”! And Mary, love that you will be able to enjoy your games, etc on your porch! I recently changed Internet providers & I’m amazed that I have so many more stations to watch & it’s costing me a whole lot less per month! I only have 2 TV’s, living room/kitchen & sewing room (sunroom). I finally found time to spend in my sewing room which is my happy place, yesterday! I have a baby quilt that needs to be quilted for a new baby at church. We had another cold night with frost so I covered my geraniums once again. I’m getting a bit tired of our “fake Spring” weather, but it’s going to warm this week! Last week I bought a couple of very large pots at Costco for tomato plants on my patio. Looking forward to having fresh tomatoes this summer!!

Sherry – you are a genius making do with your grocery bags of blocks and scraps. Wonderful! I love the variety scrap quilts offer to the eye.
Nice post to read with my coffee cup on this brisk cold morning.

Yay! For tv in place and porch time! I have a small sun porch that (once cleaned for the speing/summer!) I spend a lot of time in – so relaxing! Enjoy every minute! Such beautiful quilts

Mary, I can’t help wondering, with 8 TVs, which room in your house does not have a TV—lol. Glad you won’t miss any sports, dramas, or news!

Sara – it’s a big house but just the bathrooms don’t have tvs – haha!!!!! Our “vacation” fund at work at home!

And Mary – I loaded a denim ‘Free Quilt’ on my long arm today!! It has been in the queue for way too long. Sherry W.

Sheer – YAY! Another finish for you. I should take a couple days and catch up like you’re doing.

      1. Sherry Whalen

Well – it was WAAAY too nice to spend at the machine today! I’ve decided that ‘my process’ is to have a quilt loaded and then I can get right into quilting when I ‘find the time’ (I’, m retired so finding time can be a problem lol). So I will quilt a quilt, take it off the frame and then load another right away, clean the machine load up the bobbins and change the thread write my measurements on a piece of paper. Then I don’t have to putz with the loading….I know, silly, but I’ve just found it easier to get right to quilting than to think about the loading first. But anyway – no sewing today – hopped on the bikes and road 16 miles instead. And tomorrow? I think it will be another biking day! There will be lots of too hot or too windy or rainy days coming up. I made some lemonade from a few lemons that came to me in discards from others. These 3 baby/lap quilts were passed on to me. Each of these have a story – and each of these quilts came to me partially started. The denim and shirts came to me in a grocery bag as abandoned pieced pinwheels…different sized seams, no points, etc. Well, I couldn’t just toss them so I took them apart to the HSTs and cut the HSTs into uniform sizes and decided that pinwheels weren’t the best idea – so tada!

The Farmall blocks came to me as 12 blocks by themselves – and sat until I could think of a way to put them together for a baby quilt for Bundles of Love. Then – the already sewn together black and grey sashings came to me in a different bag that someone was going to discard. Perfect! I added red cornerstones. I think it turned out pretty cute.

The flannel baby quilt came to me in a grocery bag with cut out strip of all different sizes 2.25″, 2.5″, 3″. (not sure what was up with that) plus 4 – 8 inch blocks of the bear print and 4.5″ strips of the bear print, and a bear print backing – AND NO PATTERN. Well, I can’t throw that away… So I had to add blue 2.5″ squares because I couldn’t make anything else work with the cuts. The 2.25″ became the binding and the 3″ went into the border and needed to go on the backing to make it a little longer. Sherry W.

Sometimes it is fun to puzzle out something from ‘nothing’!

Found the denim quilt to be much more appealing than pinwheels also. I like the way you think.. Bravo.

Sherry – tHank you so much for putting your explanations here for everyone!!
